• Try a wa rm boot. Press CTRL , ALT and DELETE sim ulta neou sly to reboot the comp uter withou t turning off the power. If a warm boot causes a previous l y unr ecognized dr i ve t o be c ome rec - ognized, there ma y be a timing problem in which the drive fails to be come r eady before the host co m p letes its power- on se l f-t est .
• Check f o r memor y conflicts. • Check f o r viruses . During the FDISK program, you get an error message warn- ing of an attem pt to write to track 0 or to the boot sect or; the message may also suggest that a vi r us is present.
• Check the power supply. • Reboot the com put er and make sure the drive spins up. • Ver ify the BI OS dr ive t ype . • Check f or I/O a ddress conflicts . During high-level format t i ng, the drive keeps f i nding hard errors and reporting the fol l owing message: “Attem pting to recover al locati on uni t s.
• Check f o r viruses . During operation, the system error message, “Drive not Ready ,” appears. • Check a l l cables . • Check the power supply.
