The Setup sect ion descr ibes how to choose a suitable locati on for the ma- chine and install various parts in preparation for turnin g on the power. In add ition, it lists the bas ic settings that are necessary to get the machine up and runn ing.

Getting Started 16 1 D Grasp the two handles at either end and p ush the cartridge in to the machine. E Close the main side cover making sure it clicks firmly into place. Note ❒ The mai n side cover wil l not close properly if the toner car- tridge is set into the mach ine in- correctly.

Just press the { On Hook Dial } key and dial the num- ber. If you hear a voice, you c an pick up the extern al telephone and s peak with the other party.
Sending a Fax Message 60 2 When only connecting to an ISDN line, the On Hook Dial featur e be- comes available for ISDN. The following example describes how to use this feature to connect to a fax information service. Limita tion ❒ You cannot use th e option al hand- set or an external telephone with this function.
Manual Dial 61 2 Manual Dial The optiona l handset or an externa l telephone i s required to u se this functio n. Pick up the handset or the external telephone and dial. When the line is connected and you hear a high- pitche d tone, press th e { Star t } key to send your fax message.
Sending a Fax Message 62 2 Scan Settings You may wish to send many different types of fax m essage. Some of these may be difficult to reproduce at the other end. However, your machine has three settin gs that you can adjust to help y ou tra nsmit yo ur document with the best possible image qu ality.
Scan Settings 63 2 Image Densit y ❖ Normal This is the standard image density. ❖ Dark Use if documents contain faint characters or han dwriting. ❖ Light Use if the image is dark and woul d otherwise be reprodu ced as black at the other end.

Selecting the Line 65 2 Selecting the Line This fe ature re quires the optio nal G3 Unit or the option al G4 Unit. Installing all of these options expands the machine's line c apacity to a maxi- mum o f 2 l ine s. The optional G3 Un it connects to the PSTN, the optional G4 U nit to the IS- DN.
Sending a Fax Message 66 2 ❖ G3 Line S election G4 communication always uses IS- DN, but G3 communication can use either PSTN or ISDN. There- fore, when connected to both PSTN and ISDN and selecting G3, you can c hoose which line to us e. Note ❒ When using G3 with ISDN, you can use the sub-address an d UUI.
Dialing 67 2 Dialing There are three main ways to dial a number: ❖ Numb er ke ys: Enter numbers dire ctly using the keypad on the right side of the op- eration panel. ❖ Quick Dials: When you have stored a destina- tion 's n umbe r i n a Quic k D ial k ey, you can dial the number by just pressing that key.
