23 English INST ALLING THE CARD Be sure to f ormat a newly purchased ca rd or one that was used in ano ther device bef ore using it in your camera (pa ge 154). If an unf ormatted card is used, the card itself ma y become unusab le. 1 Open the car d slot cover, and insert the card in the card slot.

25 English PREP ARING THE DOCKING ST A TION The supplied dockin g station is used to connect y our camera to a computer , printer or TV , as well as to charge the battery pack installed in the camer a. 1 Connect the docking station to a power outlet. h Use the supplied A C adaptor and pow er cord.
English 26 PREP ARING TH E REMO TE CONTROL UNIT The remote contr ol unit can be used to tak e pictures and pla y them bac k with the camera. Insert the battery Install the supplied battery (CR2025) in the remote control unit. 1 Pul l out the battery case.
27 English PREP ARING THE REMO TE CONTROL UNIT How to use the remote co ntrol unit The remote control unit can be used at an angle that is displaced 15 degrees horizontall y from the remote contr ol sensor on the fr ont of the camera, at a di stance of up to 7 meter s.
English 28 Changing the remote contr ol code The remote c ontrol unit will also work w ith other Sa ny o cameras t hat can be operated by infrared remote control. When more than one camera is present, it is recommended to chang e the remot e control code to ensure that only the intended camera operates when the remote control unit is used.

31 English PREP ARING THE PO WER CA UTION Using the camera when it is set in the docki ng station... i Y ou can photograp h and view images while the camera is set in the docking stat ion. The battery pack can be charged when the ca mera is in the pla yback mode , but not in the shooting mode.
English 32 When using a power outle t P ow er to the camera can be supplied from a pow er outlet if the doc king station or the cab le adaptor is used. 35 English TURNING THE CAMERA ON AN D OFF T urni ng on th e camera wh en the power save (sleep) mode is ac tive In order to preserve battery pac k power , the power save (sleep) function will automaticall y turn off the camera after 1 minute of no use during shooting, or 5 minutes of no use d uring playback (fact ory-preset setting).
English 36 HINT T o immediately act ivate the power save mode i Press the ON/OFF button briefly to activ e the power sav e function. About the standby mode i T o tur n off the camera onl y briefly , you can close the monitor unit to put the camera in the stan dby mode.
37 English OPERA TION BUTT ONS The procedures to change the ca mera settings , choose images , etc., are perf ormed by using the SET butto n to control the monitor displa y . This operation is used v ery frequently , so it is best to become f amiliar with it right away .

43 English BEFORE T AKING PICTURES Using the autof ocus The autofocus will w ork in almost all situat ions; however , there are certain conditions that may cause the autof ocus function to not work properl y . If the autofocus function is not working properly , set the focus range to capture images (page 86).
English 44 The fo llowing e xamples are some of the situations where the aut ofocus function ma y work, b ut not as desired. i When both near and far objects are present Use the focus-loc k function to lock the focus on an object at the sa me distance as the desired subject, then reposition the camera to compose the picture.

59 English RECORDING IN THE HD MODE In addition to the standard video clip recor ding mode (normal mode, aspect ratio 4:3), y our camera ca n also record video clips in the widescreen mode (HD mode) with an aspect ratio of 16:9. Switching bet ween the normal mode and HD mode 1 Pr ess the ON/OFF button f or at least 1 second to turn the camera on.

65 English USING THE ZOOM Y our camera has t wo zo om functions: opt ical zoom and digital z oom. Y ou can specify whether or not the digit al zoom is enab led (page 140). 1 Point the camera lens at the subject. 2 Press [T] or [W] on the zoom switch to compose the desired image.
English 66 SHOO TING WITH THE FLASH The flash is used n ot only f or taking pi ctures where there is insuff icient light, but also when the subject is in shade or in backlight conditions. Y our camera’ s flash has f our modes of operation (au tom atic flash mode , for ced flash mode, flash off mode, and red-ey e reduction mode ).
67 English SHOO TING WITH THE FLASH 3 Pr ess the flash button to set the flash mode. h Each time the flash button is pressed, th e flash mode changes. h Display the icon for the desired flash mode. 4 Press the still image shooting button. h The picture is snapped and the fl ash op erates according to the selected mode.
English 68 EXPOSURE CORRECTION When capturing images , you can mak e the image lighter or dark er . 1 Se t the main swit ch to REC. h If the Shoo ting Setting Screen is displa yed, press the MENU butt on to e xit it. 2 While the Shooting Screen is displayed, toggle the SET button to the right.
69 English EXPOSURE CORRECTION HINT The exposure correction setti ng is canceled in the foll owing cases: i When the pointer is set to the center position. i When the Option Screen is accessed. i When the main s witch is set to PLA Y . i After the pow er is turned off.
English 70 SHOO TING IN THE HIGH SENSITIVITY MODE Y ou can press the HIGH SENSITIVITY b utton to capture an e ven brighter image. Y ou can also get a brighter image by setting the IS O sensitivity (page 90) to a higher sett ing. 1 Pr ess the HIGH SENSITIVITY button.
