Key Features 1. Earpiece lets you hear the caller and automated pr ompts. 2. Main LCD (display) displa ys the phone’ s main menu, features, modes, etc. 3. Softkey (left) lets y ou select the menu corresponding to the bottom left line on the Main LCD .
17. Speaker lets you hear differ ent ringers and sounds. Y ou can mute the ringer when receiving incoming calls by pressing , , or any of the side keys. 18. LED Indicator shows y our phone’ s connection status at a glance. 19. Sub LCD lets y ou monitor the phone’ s status and see who’ s calling without opening the phone.
Viewing the Display Screen This list identifies the symbols you’ ll see on your display scr een. shows your current signal strength. The more lines you have, the strong er your signal. means your phone cannot find a signal. indicates the call is on hold.
shows the level of y our batter y charge. The more black y ou see, the more pow er you hav e left. indicates your battery is charging. indicates you hav e menus to scroll (in f our directions). indicates the vibrate f eature is set to ON .
T urning Y our Phone ON and OFF T urning Y our Phone ON T o tur n your phone on, press . Once your phone is ON , it displays “Looking for service... ” which indicates that y our phone is searching f or a signal. When your phone finds a signal, it automaticall y enters standb y mode.
Using the Battery Installing the Battery T o install the LiIon batt ery: T o install, inser t the batter y into the opening on the back of the phone and gentl y press down until the latc h snaps into place. Removing the Battery T o remo ve y our batt ery: 1.
Charging the Battery Y our phone comes with a rec hargeable battery . Y ou should charg e the batter y as soon as possible so you can begin using your phone.
Displaying Y our Phone Number 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Contacts and press . 3. Highlight My Phone# and press . Note: T o access the phone’ s main menu, press from standby mode.
Making and Answering Calls Making Calls T o place a call using your k eypad: 1. Make sure your phone is on. 2. Enter a phone number from standby mode. (If you make a mistake while dialing, press to erase one digit at a time. Press and hold to erase the entir e number .
T o place a call with the flip closed: 1. Make sure your phone is on. 2. Press and hold on the right side of the phone. 3. Follow the system prompts. (The call will be made in speakerphone mode, unless you hav e a headset attached to the phone.) Redial to redial the last number y ou called.
Dialing Options Dialing options are display ed when you pr ess (right softkey) after enter ing numbers in standby mode. T o select an option, highlight it and press . Call to dial the phone number . Call:Speaker On to dial the phone number in speakerphone mode.
Answering Calls T o answer an incoming call with the flip open: 1. Make sure your phone is on. If your phone is off, incoming calls go to v oicemail. 2. Press or to answ er an incoming call. (Depending on your phone’ s settings, you may also ans wer incoming calls by opening the phone or by pressing any number key .
The following options ar e also display ed by pressing (right softke y). T o select an option, highlight it and press . Answer to answ er the call. Answer:Speaker to answ er the call in speakerphone mode. Answer on Hold to put the call on hold.
Setting Answer on Hold This featur e allows you to hold an incoming call when y ou cannot answ er immediately . T o set Answer on Hold: 1. When you receiv e an incoming call, press (right softkey). 2. Highlight Answer on Hold and press . (The caller hear s a message while waiting f or you to ans wer .
Using the Speakerphone The speakerphone featur e lets you hear audio through the speaker and talk without holding the phone. When the speakerphone is activated, use the Side Up/Down key or press the navigation key up or down to adjust the volume. T o tur n the speak er phone on dur ing a call: Press .
Adjusting V olume During a Conversation Whether you need to hear more or less of a con versation, adjust the Side Up/Down key or press the navigation key up or down during a call. Muting a Call T o mute a call: Press (right softkey), highlight Mute , and press .
Calling Emergency Numbers Y ou can place calls to 911 (dial and press ), even if your phone is loc ked or your account is restricted. Once the dial is made, you will enter Emerg ency mode. T o select an option, press (right softke y), highlight it, and press .
In-Call Options During a call, your phone displays menu options by pressing (right softke y). T o select an option, highlight it and press . Flash to answ er an incoming call while putting the current call in Call W aiting or connect a third par ty for a Thr ee-W ay Call.
End-of-Call Options T o display the following options, pr ess (right softke y) within 10 seconds after disconnecting a call. T o select an option, highlight it and press . Call Again to dial the phone number . Call:Speaker On to dial the phone number in speakerphone mode.
Finding a Phone Number Y ou can searc h Contacts list entries for phone numbers that contain a specific string of numbers. 1. Enter the last four or mor e digits of the number and press (right softke y). The more numbers you enter , the more specific the searc h becomes.
Dialing From the Contacts Directory 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Contacts and press . 3. Highlight Find/Add Entry and press . Shortcut: Press the navigation key right to list entries. 4. Use your navigation key to scroll through the Contacts list and highlight one of the appropriate entries and press .
Using One-T ouch Speed Dialing With this f eature, you can dial Speed Dial entries using one ke y press f or locations 2-9. (See page 69 for storing a Speed Dial number .) T o use speed dial for voice calls: From standby mode, press and hold the appropriate key for approximately tw o seconds.
Selecting a Character Input Mode Y our phone provides conv enient ways to enter w ords, letters, punctuation, and numbers whenever you are prompted to enter te xt (for e xample, when adding a Contacts entr y or when sending Email, te xt, picture or video messages).
Entering Characters Using T9 T ext Input T9 T ext Input lets you enter te xt in your phone by pressing keys just once per letter . (T o select the T9 W ord mode when enter ing te xt, see “Selecting a Character Input Mode” on the previous page.
T o edit or erase the wor ds you hav e added: 1. Follow steps 1-4 on pag e 26. 2. Highlight My Words and press . 3. Highlight your desired w ord and press (right softke y). 4. T o select an option, highlight it and press . Edit to edit a word in My W or ds.
Entering Characters Using the Keypad T o enter characters using the ke ypad, select the Alphabet mode (see “Selecting a Character Input Mode” on pa ge 25). Press the corresponding key until the desired character appears. By default, the first letter of a word is capitalized and f ollowing letters are lowercase.

40 Location Settings Y our phone is equipped with a Location featur e which will allow the networ k to detect your position, making some applications easier to use.
TTY Use A TTY (also known as a TDD or T ext T elephone) is a telecommunications device that allows people who are deaf or hard of hearing, or who have speec h or language disabilities, to communicate via a telephone. Y our phone is compatible with select TTY devices.
Airplane Mode When your phone is in Airplane mode, it cannot send or receiv e any calls (e xcept for 911 dialing) or access online information. Y ou may still use the phone ’ s other features, suc h as V oice Memo, Calculator , Calendar , etc., while you are in Airplane mode.
Phone Setup Options My Shortcut Y our phone offers you the option of assigning a shortcut ke y to a fav orite or often-used function. Pressing the navigation key left in standby mode will launch your user-defined shortcut. T o assign your shortcut k ey: 1.
44 Auto Answer Mode This featur e sets the phone to automatically pick up incoming calls in speakerphone mode or car kit/headset mode (when connected). 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Settings and press . 3. Highlight Others and press .
Headset Mode This featur e allows you hands-free phone use. Set the headset mode to V oice Call or 10-4 and press the T urbo Button (the operation button) on the headset to activate useful functions. T o connect the headset: Simply plug the headset into y our phone ’ s headset jack.
T o set the sound mode: 1. Follow the steps 1 to 4 on pag e 45. 2. Highlight Earpiece and press . 3. Select Stereo or Mono and press . T o set the ring er audio: 1. Follow the steps 1 to 4 on pag e 45. 2. Highlight Ringer Audio and press . 3. Select Normal or Discreet and press .
Setting Message Notification Y ou can set your phone to displa y an icon and message notification or just display an icon notification when y ou receiv e a te xt message or voicemail. 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Settings and press .
48 Editing Canned Messages Y our phone can store canned messages f or use with text messaging. Y ou can edit your phone ’ s default canned messag es through the Settings menu. T o edit a canned message: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Settings and press .

Setting Up Key Press Echo With this f eature, your phone echoes the number when y ou press the keypad. This feature is av ailable when you are in standby mode. 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Settings and press . 3. Highlight Sounds and press .
3. Security Accessing the Security Menu Y ou must enter your loc k code to view the Security menu. 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Settings and press . 3. Highlight Security and press . 4. Enter your lock code. T ip: If you can’t recall your lock code, try using the last four digits of your phone number or 0000.
Unlocking Y our Phone 1. Press (left softkey). 2. Enter your lock code. Locking the Pictures and Videos Menu With this f eature, you must enter your loc k code when you access the Pictures and V ideos menu. 1. From the Security Menu, highlight Lock Pic&Video and press .
Calling in Lock Mode Y ou can place calls to 911, Customer Service, and to your special numbers when in lock mode. T o place an outgoing call in lock mode: T o call an emergency number , special number , or Customer Service, enter the phone number and press .
Using Special Numbers Y ou can save thr ee special numbers in addition to your Contacts entries (the same number may be in both directories). Y ou can make and receive calls fr om special numbers even when your phone is locked. T o add or replace a special number: 1.
Resetting Y our Pictures Account This option resets your authentication ID f or your picture account. 1. From the Security Menu, highlight Reset Pictures and press . 2. Press (left softkey) to continue. 3. If you are certain that you w ould like to reset y our pictures account, highlight Ye s and press .
4. Roaming Understanding Roaming Recognizing Icons on the Display Screen Y our phone ’ s display screen always lets y ou know when you ’ re off the home network and whether y our phone is operating in analog or digital mode. The following chart indicates what you ’ ll see depending on where you ’ re using your phone.
Note: When using your phone in analog mode, the handset may feel warm. This behavior is normal for analog operation. Setting Y our Phone ’ s Roam Mode Y our phone allows you to contr ol your ability to roam. By using the Roaming menu option, you can determine which signals your phone accepts.

6. Managing Call History Viewing History Yo u ’ ll find the Call Histor y featur e very helpful. It is a list of the last 20 phone numbers (or Contacts entr ies) and the last 10 10-4 calls for eac h call or 10-4 call that you placed, accepted, or missed.

Prepending a Phone Number From Call History If you need to make a call from Call History and you happen to be outside your local area code, y ou can add the appropriate prepending by following these steps: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Call History and press .
7. Contacts Directory Displaying the Contacts List Press the navigation key right. – or – 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Contacts and press . 3. Highlight Find/Add Entry and press . Adding a New Contacts Entry Y our phone can store up to 300 Contacts entries.
Finding Contacts List Entries There are sev eral ways to displa y your Contacts entries: by name, by speed dial number , b y 10-4 list, and by voice dial numbers. Follow the steps outlined in the sections below to display entries from the Contacts list menu.

Assigning Speed Dial Numbers With this f eature you can dial Contacts Directory entr ies with one key press for locations 2-9. Save your memory locations 2-9 for speed dialing your most commonl y used phone numbers. Speed Dial numbers must be stored in your Contacts to use this f eature.
Editing a Contacts Entry 1. Press the navigation key right. 2. Highlight the entr y you wish to edit and press . 3. Highlight a phone number , press (right softke y), highlight Edit , and press . – or – Highlight an email address or W eb address and press (right softke y).
Selecting a Ringer/Image T ype for an Entry Y ou can assign a r inger/imag e type to a Contacts entr y so you can identify the caller by the ringer or image type. T o select a ring er type for an entry: 1. Press the navigation key right. 2. Select the entr y you want to set and pr ess .
72 Secret Contacts Entries Y ou can hide an entr y ’ s phone number(s) b y making them secret, which r equires your loc k code to edit the entr y . The entr y name is still display ed, but the entr y ’ s phone numbers are replaced by “ <Secret> ” .
73 8. Personal Organizer Managing Schedules Calendar Use the Calendar to remind you of ev ents or important calls you need to make. Y ou can schedule up to 100 events, 15 Call Alarms and 20 T o Do Items. Displaying Y our Calendar 1. Press to access the main menu.
Adding an Event to the Scheduler 1. From the Calendar displa y , highlight the day you w ant to add an event by using the navigation key and press . 2. Press (r ight softkey) to display the options. 3. Highlight Add Event and press . 4. Highlight Schedule and press .
Event Alerts There are sev eral ways y our phone alerts you of scheduled events. By playing the alert tone (depending on the Alert and Ringer V olume setting). By blinking the LED . By displaying the event ’ s descr iption on the Main LCD when the f lip is open.
Adding a Call Alarm to the Scheduler 1. From the Calendar displa y , highlight the day you w ant to add an event by using the navigation key and press . 2. From the event list displa y , press (r ight softkey) to display the options. 3. Highlight Add Event and press .
Call Alarm Menu When your phone is turned on and you hav e scheduled a call alarm, your phone alerts you and displays the icon and the name or phone number . T o respond t o a call alar m: Press or to dial the phone number . Other options av ailable include: Press to make a 10-4 call (if applicable).
Viewing a Future/Past Day ’ s Scheduled Events 1. From the Ev ent list display , press (right softke y). 2. Highlight Go T o Date and press . 3. Enter the date by using numeric ke ys and the navigation key and press or (left softke y). 4. Press again to view the day ’ s Event List.
Deleting Items from the T o Do List 1. From the T o Do List display , highlight the item y ou want to erase and press (right softke y). 2. Highlight your desired option and pr ess . Erase Item erases an item from the T o Do List. Erase Selection erases the selected T o Do items all at one time.
Displaying Phone Information 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Settings and press . 3. Highlight Phone Info and press . 4. Highlight My Phone# and press . Finding Icon Definition 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Settings and press .

Using the Stop Watch T o start the stop w atch: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight T ools/Extras and press . 3. Highlight Stop Watch and press . Press (left softke y) to start the stop watch. Press (left softkey) to stop the stop watch.
84 9. V oice Services Using V oice-Activated Dialing Y ou can use a V oice Dial ta g to automatically dial a phone number in your Contacts list. Y our phone can store up to 30 V oice Dial tags. (T o create a V oice Dial tag, see “ Programming V oice Dial T ag to Y our Phone ” below .
9. Select the phone number you want to pr ogram and press . (The display shows “ V oice Dial Recorded ” .) Note: Record V oice Dial tags in a quiet environment and without the aid of an accessory . Reviewing V oice Dialing T ags 1. Press to access the main menu.
Managing V oice Memos Y ou can use your phone ’ s V oice Ser vices to record brief memos during a call. Recording V oice Memos T o recor d a voice memo: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight T ools/Extras and press . 3. Highlight Voice Services and press .
When the recording capacity is full, highlight an old memo, press (left softkey), highlight Ye s , and press to make room for additional memos. Note: Y our phone can store up to 12 memos and the total available recording time is 72 seconds (maximum of 18 seconds per memo).
Erasing V oice Memos T o erase all voice memos: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight T ools/Extras and press . 3. Highlight Voice Services and press . 4. Highlight Voice Memo and press . 5. Highlight Erase All and press . 6. Highlight Ye s and press .
Setting Up Screen Call This featur e enables you to ans wer incoming calls by using pre- recorded announcements, either one that is pr e-recorded or one that you recor d. Y ou can also record the caller ’ s messa ge into the V oice Memo list. T o listen to the message, see “ Reviewing V oice Memos ” on page 87.
Selecting an Announcement for Screen Call 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight T ools/Extras and press . 3. Highlight Voice Services and press . 4. Highlight Screen Call and press . 5. Highlight Announcement and press . 6. Depending on your pref erence, highlight Pre-Recorded or Custom , and press .
Recording a Customized Announcement 1. Follow steps 1-5 on the pr evious page. 2. Highlight Custom and press (right softkey). 3. Highlight Record and press . If your announcement has alread y been recorded, select Ye s or No for ov erwriting. 4. Press to star t the 1st recording.
10. 10-4 10-4 allows you to enjoy quick, tw o-way , “ walkie-talkie-style ” communication with your friends, famil y , and co-wor kers. Y ou can make 1-to-1 or 1-to-many calls (up to 5 others on the same call) to any other 10-4 user , anywhere on the Netw ork.
Displaying the 10-4 List From standby mode, press (left softkey) or the 10-4 button on the side of your phone ( ) to access the 10-4 List. T ip: The first time you access the list, the 10-4 Help message will appear . Press (left softkey) and (left softkey) to read a brief introduction of 10-4.
Making a 10-4 Call (1-to-1 Call) Y ou can place a 1-to-1 10-4 call by entering a 10-4 number or b y selecting a contact from the 10-4 List. 1. Press (left softkey) or press to access the 10-4 List.
Making a 10-4 Call (Group Call) Y ou can make a 10-4 call to all members in a Group entr y , which you hav e in your 10-4 List. Y ou can communicate with up to five members at a time. 1.
