Key Features 1. Earpiece lets you hear the caller and automated pr ompts. 2. Signal Strength Indicator represents the signal str ength b y displaying bars.

Viewing the Display Screen This list identifies the symbols you’ ll see on your displa y screen. shows your current signal strength. The more lines you have, the strong er your signal. means your phone cannot find a signal. indicates the call is on hold.
indicates the handset is connected to a Bluetooth device (green icon). indicates the handset is discover a ble by another Bluetooth device. indicates the handset is communicating with a Bluetooth device. indicates your access to a secure site. shows the level of y our batter y c har ge.
T urning Y our Phone ON and OFF T urning Y our Phone ON Press . Once your phone is on, it displa ys “Looking for ser vice... ” which indicates that your phone is searc hing for a signal. When your phone finds a signal, it automatically enters standby mode.
Using the Battery Installing the Battery 1. Insert the batter y into the opening on the back of the phone and gentl y press it down. 2. Place the batter y cover , and then slide it upward until you hear it snap into place. 3. Slide the batter y cover release lev er as indicated in the diagram shown below .
Charging the Battery Y our phone comes with a recharg eable batter y . Y ou should charg e the batter y as soon as possib le so you can begin using your phone.
Using the Holster Attaching the phone to the holster 1. With the fr ont of the phone facing the holster , insert the bottom of the phone into the holster .
Removing the phone from the holster 1. With y our forefing er , push against the holster’ s top plate while gripping the phone at the sides. 2. The phone can now be easily r emoved from the holster .
Navigating Through Phone Menus The navigation key on your phone allows you to scr oll through menus quickl y and easily . The scroll bar at the right of the menu keeps track of y our position in the menu at all times. T o navigate through a menu, simply press the navigation key up or down.
Displaying Y our Phone Number Select > Settings > Phone Info > My Phone# . (Y our phone number and other information about your phone and account will be display ed.) T ip: Y ou can also display your phone number through the Contacts menu.
T o place a call with the phone closed: 1. Make sure your phone is on and the Side K ey Guard featur e is disabled. (See “Setting Side Key Guard” on page 49.) 2. Press and hold Side Call key ( ) on the right side of the phone. 3. Follow the system prompts and sa y the name of your registered v oice dial ta g (see the note below).
Dialing Options Dialing options are display ed when you press (right softkey) after enter ing numbers in standb y mode. Abbrev . Dial to use the Ab breviated Dialing feature. (See “Setting Abbr e viated Dialing” on pa ge 47 and “Using Abbr e viated Dialing” on pa ge 24.
Answering Calls T o answer an incoming call with the phone open: 1. Make sure your phone is on. (If your phone is off, incoming calls go to v oicemail.) 2. Press or to answ er an incoming call. (Depending on your phone’ s settings, you ma y also answer incoming calls by pressing any number key .
Select Audio to switc h the call to your desired device (if available). Answer on Hold to put the call on hold. (See “Setting Answ er on Hold” shown below .) Screen Call to answ er the call by using pre-recorded announcement. (See “Setting Up Screen Call” on page 87.
Missed Call Notification When an incoming call is not answ ered, the missed call log is display ed on your screen. T o call the missed call entry from the notification scr een: Press (left softkey). T ip: If you have two or more notifications, the Missed Alerts list will appear .
In-Call Options During a call, your phone displays menu options by pressing (right softke y). Flash to answ er an incoming call while putting the cur rent call in Call W aiting or connect a third party f or a Three-W ay Call. Mute or Unmute to mute or reactivate y our phone’ s microphone.
End-of-Call Options T o display the following options, pr ess (right softke y) within 10 seconds after disconnecting a call. Call Again to dial the phone number . Call:Speaker On to dial the phone number in speakerphone mode. Send Message to send a text messag e.
Saving a Phone Number Y our phone can store up to seven phone numbers in each of 500 Contact entries with up to 700 total number s. Each entry’ s name can contain 32 characters. Y our phone automatically sorts the Contacts alphabetically . (For more inf ormation, see “Using Contacts” on pa ge 61.
Dialing and Saving Phone Numbers With Pauses Y ou can dial or save phone numbers with pauses for use with automated systems, such as v oicemail or credit card billing numbers. There are tw o types of pauses available on your phone: Hard Pause to send the next set of n umbers when you press .
Dialing From the Contacts List 1. Select > Contacts > Find/Add Entry . 2. Select the entr y you want to call and press . 3. Highlight the number you wish to call and pr ess . Note: The icon next to each entry represents the labels (for example, Mobile, Home, W ork, etc.
Using Abbreviated Dialing Abbr e viated Dialing is similar to speed dialing. Y ou can use either of the following ab breviated dialing features. Ph. Book Match to retrieve any desired n umber saved in y our Contacts by entering only the last three to six digits of the number .
Entering T ext Selecting a Character Input Mode Y our phone provides conv enient ways to enter w ords, letter s, punctuation, and numbers whenever you are prompted to enter te xt (for example, when adding a Contacts entry or when sending te xt messa ges).
Select T ext to select stored te xt for copying or cutting. Add Word to store words that y ou use frequently . T ip: Before entering text, press the key to change letter capitalization : Abc > ABC > abc (Alphabet Mode) : T9w > T9W > t9w (T9 T ext Input Mode).
Customizing the T9 Settings 1. Press (right softkey) > T ext Options > T9 Settings . – or – From standby mode, select > Settings > Others > T ext Entry > T9 Settings . 2. Select an option and press . Next WordPrediction to automaticall y display the wor d that may f ollow the cur rent te xt input.
Charact ers scroll in the follo wing order: In Fr ench mode, c haract ers scroll in the follo wing order: See pages 25, 45 f or changing French entry mode. After a character is enter ed, the cur sor automatically advances to the ne xt space after two seconds or when you enter a char acter not on the same key .
2. Y our Phone ’ s Settings Sound Settings Ringer T ypes Selecting Ringer T ypes for Incoming Calls Select a ringer type for incoming calls so that y ou can recognize when a certain type of call is coming in: T o select a r inger type for incoming calls: 1.
Adjusting the Phone ’ s V olume Settings Adjusting the ringer volume 1. Select > Settings > Sounds > Volume > Ringer . 2. Select a volume level and pr ess (left softkey). T ip: Y ou can adjust the ringer volume in standby mode (or the earpiece volume during a call) by using .
Selecting Vibrate Pattern With this f eature, you can select vibrate pattern f or incoming calls, messages, and schedule alarms. 1. Select > Settings > Sounds > Vibrate Pattern . 2. Select Incoming Calls , 10-4 , Voicemail , Messaging ,o r Calendar/Alarm .
Setting Up Key Press Echo With this f eature, you can hear a v oice say the numbers when you press the keypad. This feature is av aila ble when you ar e in standby mode. 1. Select > Settings > Sounds > Others > Key Press Echo . 2. Select On or Off .
3. Select a setting and press . T ip: Y ou can select Once or Repeat Alert if you select 10-4 Calls, 10-4 Missed, V oicemail or Messaging. Repeat Alert sounds an alert every two minutes for twenty minutes. (For 10-4 calls, an alert sounds for 20 seconds continuously .
Display Settings Changing the Phone ’ s Menu Style Y our phone allows you to c hoose how the main menu appear s on your displa y screen. 1. Select > (right softke y) > Change View . 2. Select Grid View or List View . Grid View to view eac h main menu item as an animated single-screen icon.
Power Save Mode This featur e helps conser ve your batter y power by setting the Main LCD and Sub LCD backlights to “ Dim Only , ” the Main LCD sleep mode to “ after 30 sec. ” , and the Sub LCD sleep mode to “ after 5 sec. ” 1. Select > Settings > Display > Power Save Mode .
Changing the Display for Incoming Calls 1. Select > Settings > Display > Incoming Calls . 2. Select an option ( Preset , My Content , -Get New , or Off ) and press .
Changing the Font Size 1. Select > Settings > Display > Others > Font Size . 2. Select View or Input . View to select Main LCD (and then, Messaging or Browser ) or Sub LCD (and then Names/Phone#s ). Input to select Phone#s , Messaging or Others .
Sleep Mode This featur e helps conser ve your batter y power by restricting the display . 1. Select > Settings > Display > Others > Sleep Mode . 2. Select Main LCD or Sub LCD . 3. Select an option and press . T o deactivate this feature, select Off .
Location Settings The settings allow you to turn the Assisted GPS chipset in the cell phone to “ Allow ” or “ Deny . ” Setting location to On lets the networ k detect the cell phone ’ s g eographic location using Assisted GPS, making some featur es easier to use.
Messaging Settings Setting Message Notification Y ou can set your phone to displa y an icon and message notification or just display an icon notification when y ou receive a te xt messa ge, picture messag e, voicemail, or W eb Aler t. 1. Select > Settings > Messaging > Notification .
T o chang e the language of the canned messages: 1. Select > Settings > Messaging > Canned Msgs . 2. Press (right softkey) > Select Language . 3. Select English or French . Note: For information on editing text, see “Entering T ext” on page 25.
Setting Drafts Alert Drafts Alert sends you a reminder when y ou have unsent messages waiting in the drafts f older . 1. Select > Settings > Messaging > T ext > Drafts Alert . 2. Select On . Airplane Mode When your phone is in Airplane mode, it cannot send or receiv e any calls (e xcept for 911 dialing) or access online inf or mation.
TTY Use A TTY (also known as a TDD or T ext T elephone) is a telecommunications device that allows people who are deaf or hard of hearing, or who have speec h or langua ge disabilities, to communicate via a telephone. Y our phone is compatible with select TTY devices.
Phone Setup Options My Favourites Y our phone offers you the option of assigning a shortcut to a fav our ite or often-used function. Pressing the navigation key left (by default) will launch y our user-defined shor tcut. T o assign your shor tcut: 1. Press the navigation key left.
Setting the T ext Entry Options 1. Select > Settings > Others > T ext Entry . 2. Select an option and press . Auto-Capital to set the auto-capital on or off. My Words to add a word to or edit a wor d in the T9 database (see page 26). Input Language to select the language (English or Frenc h).
Setting the Open/Close Flip Option This featur e ena bles you to ans wer an incoming call by opening the phone or to end a call by closing the phone. T o activ ate the Open Flip f eature: 1. Select > Settings > Others > Open/Close Flip . 2. Select Open .
Setting Abbreviated Dialing T o activ ate Ph. Book Matc h feat ure: 1. Select > Settings > Others > Abbrev . Dial . 2. Select Ph. Book Match > Enable . T o deactivate this feature, select Disable . T o set your pr epend number: 1. Follow steps 1 abov e.
Headset Mode This featur e allows you hands-free phone use. Press the T urbo Button (the operation button) on the headset to activate useful functions. T o connect the headset: Simply plug the headset into y our phone ’ s headset jac k. T o set headset mode: 1.
Setting Side Key Guard This featur e ena bles you to loc k the side ke ys while your phone is closed. 1. Select > Settings > Others > Side Key Guard . 2. Select On or Off . Note: This feature does not apply when the phone is open. T ip: Y ou can deactivate this feature temporarily by pressing and holding while the phone is closed.
3. Security Accessing the Security Menu Y ou must enter your loc k code to view the Security menu. 1. Select > Settings > Security . 2. Enter your lock code. T ip: If you can’t recall your lock code, try using the last four digits of your phone number or 0000.
Unlocking Y our Phone 1. Press (left softkey). 2. Enter your lock code. Changing the Lock Code 1. From the Security Menu display (See “ Accessing the Security Menu ” on page 50), select Others > Change Lock . 2. Enter and re-enter a new loc k code.
Restricting Calls Y ou can restrict phone numbers your phone dials or receives. ( Limit Use setting does not apply to 911 or Customer Service.) 1. From the Security Menu display (See “ Accessing the Security Menu ” on page 50), select Others > Limit Use .
Erasing Phone Content 1. From the Security Menu display (See “ Accessing the Security Menu ” on page 50), select Erase/Reset . 2. Select an option and press . Erase Ph. Book to erase all of your Contacts entries. Erase My Content to erase all items you hav e downloaded to your phone.
Resetting Favourites 1. From the Security Menu display (See “ Accessing the Security Menu ” on page 50), select Erase/Reset > Reset Favourites .
4. Roaming Understanding Roaming Recognizing Icons on the Display Screen Y our phone ’ s display screen alwa ys lets you know when you ’ re off the home network.

6. Managing Call History Viewing History Yo u ’ ll find the Call Histor y feature v er y helpful. It is a list of the phone numbers (or Contacts entr ies) for calls y ou placed, accepted, or missed. Call Histor y makes redialing a n umber fast and easy .
Prepend to add numbers to the beginning of the phone number . (See “ Prepending a Phone Number F rom Call Histor y ” on page 60.) Copy to Personal to copy the phone number to the 10-4 Personal List (appears only when 10-4 mode is set to Enable and the number does not match an y stored entr y in your Personal List).
Saving a Phone Number From Call History 1. Select > Call History . 2. Select Outgoing , Incoming , Missed , or Recent Calls . 3. Highlight the call histor y entr y you want to save and pr ess (right softke y) > Save Phone# . 4. Select New Name or From Ph.
7. Using Contacts Displaying the Contacts List Select > Contacts > Find/Add Entry . Adding a New Contacts Entry Y our phone can store up to 500 Contacts entries. Contacts can store up to a total of 700 phone numbers and each entry ’ s name can contain 32 characters.
T o assign a Contacts entry to a gr oup: 1. From the Contacts list displa y , select y our desired Contacts entr y and press . 2. Scroll down to the box ne xt to the icon and press twice. 3. Select a group from the Group list and pr ess or (left softkey).
2. Say the v oice dial ta g of the Contacts entr y you would like to find. If the phone par tly recognizes the name, a list of up to three most likely matc h names is displayed. Y ou will hear the voice prompt “ Did y ou say …” follow ed b y the matched name.
Set V oice T ag to set a voice dial tag for the entry (see pa ge 81). Prepend to alter a phone number by adding numbers to the beginning of the entr y .
Editing a Contacts Entry ’ s Phone Number 1. From the Contacts list displa y , select the Contacts entry you wish to edit the phone number to and press . 2. Select the number you wish to edit and pr ess (right softkey) > Edit . 3. Press again to edit the number .
Assigning Speed Dial Numbers With this f eature you can dial Contacts Directory entries with one key press for locations 2-9. (For details on how to make calls using speed dial numbers, see “ Using Speed Dialing ” on page 23.) T o assign a speed dial number: 1.
Assigning an Image to a Contacts Entry Y ou can assign an image to a Contacts entr y . The image is display ed when the entr y calls y ou. T o assign an image f or an entry: 1. From the Contacts list displa y , select the entry for which y ou want to assign the image and press .
Secret Contacts Entries Y ou can hide an entr y ’ s phone number(s) by making them secret, which r equires your lock code to edit the entry . The entr y name is still displayed, but the entry ’ s phone number s are replaced by “ <Secret> ” .
8. Personal Organizer Using Y our Phone ’ s Calendar Use the Calendar to remind you of ev ents or impor tant calls you need to make. Y ou can sc hedule up to 200 e vents, 15 Call Alarms and 40 T o Do Items. Displaying Y our Calendar Select > Calendar .
Adding a Schedule to the Calendar 1. From the Calendar displa y , highlight the da y to which you want to add a schedule. 2. Press (right softkey) > Add Schedule . 3. Enter the description and press . T ip: While entering the description you can also press (right softkey) to select a description from “From T o Do List” or “Fr .
Adding a Call Alarm to the Calendar 1. From the Calendar displa y , highlight the da y to which you want to add a call alarm and press (right softkey). 2. Press the navigation key left or right to select Add Call Alarm . 3. Enter the phone number directl y or press (right softkey) for the follo wing options: From Ph.
Adding T o Do Items Y our phone can store and manage 40 T o Do items. 1. From the Calendar displa y , pr ess (right softkey). 2. Press the navigation key left or right to select Add T o Do .
Event Alerts There are sev eral ways your phone alerts you of sc heduled events. Note: Events include Schedule (see page 70), Call Alarm (see page 71) and T o Do items (see page 72). By playing the assigned ringer type. By blinking the LED . By lighting the LCD backlight (depending on the backlight setting).
Editing an Event on the Calendar T o edit a scheduled event on the calendar , select the W eekly vie w . T o mov e an event: 1. Highlight the event you w ould like to move and press (right softke y) > Move . 2. Use the navigation key to move the event to the date and time you w ould like to and press .
Event List Options While you are displa ying the day ’ s events list, press (right softke y) to access the following options: Add Schedule to add a schedule to the calendar . Add Call Alarm to add a call alarm to the calendar . Add T o Do to add a T o Do item to the calendar .
4. Select Ye s to erase the event(s). T ip: T o erase completed events, from the monthly view , press (right softkey), and then select T o Do List and follow steps 2 - 4 above. Note: The Erase function will not delete events that you have designated as “secret.
Using Y our Phone ’ s T ools Using the Alarm Clock T o set the alar m clock: 1. Select > T ools > Alarm Clock . Note: T o set the alarm clock in a no-service area, press (left softkey) in the “Set Current T ime/Date” screen. 2. Select a number and press .
Using the Stop Watch T o start the st op watch: Select > T ools > Stop W atch . Press (left softke y) to start the stop watch. Press (left softkey) to stop the stop watc h.
4. Press (left softkey) to save the countdown settings. 5. Press (right softke y) to set the Ringer Length , Snooze Interval , or Snooze Times . 6. Press (left softkey) to save. T ip: Press the left softkey ( On or Off ) to toggle the countdown alarm on and off.
Personal Information Management Displaying Phone Information Select > Settings > Phone Info > My Phone# . Finding Icon Definition 1. Select > Settings > Phone Info > Icon Glossary . 2. Select the item for whic h you want to see the e xplanation and press .
9. V oice Services Using V oice-Activated Dialing Y ou can use a voice dial tag to automatically dial a phone number in your Contacts. Y our phone can store up to 30 voice dial tags. Note: Please set the V oice Prompt feature (see page 31) to On before using the V oice-Activated Dialing so that you can hear the voice instruction from the phone.
V oice Dial T ag Options 1. From the Contacts list displa y , select a Contacts entry for which y ou would like to review the voice dial tag and press . 2. Press (right softkey) > Set VoiceT ag . 3. Select an option and press . Play to play the selected v oice dial ta g.
Managing V oice/Call Memos Y ou can use your phone ’ s voice services to record meetings or lectures, or brief memos to remind you of important events, phone numbers, or grocer y list items. Recording V oice Memos T o r ecord a v oice memo: 1. Press (ri gh t sof tke y ) > Record .
Reviewing V oice/Call Memos 1. Press (right softkey) > List . 2. Select a memo from the list and press . Press (right softkey) > Play > All to play all v oice memos continuously . Press (right softkey) > Play > Multiple , and select your desired memos, and pr ess > (left softkey).
V oice Memo Options There are sev eral user options available f or managing voice/call memos. T o display the v oice memo options: 1. Press (right softkey) > List . 2. Highlight a voice memo and press (r ight softkey). 3. Select an option and press .
Setting the Recording Guard With this f eature, you can recor d voice memos without interr uption from incoming calls. 1. Press (right softkey) > (right softke y) > Recording Guard . 2. Select On or Off . While recording v oice memos, your phone will display “ Phone Off.
Setting Up Screen Call This featur e ena bles you to scr een incoming calls b y using a recorded announcement, either one that is pr e-recorded or one that you hav e recorded.
Recording a Customized Announcement 1. Press (right softkey) > Screen Call > Announcement . 2. Highlight Custom and press (right softke y) > Record . If your announcement has alread y been recorded, select Ye s or No for ov erwr iting. 3.
10. 10-4 10-4 allows you to enjoy quick, tw o-way , “ walkie-talkie-style ” communication with your friends, famil y , and co-workers. Y ou can make 1-to-1 or 1-to-many calls (up to 5 others on the same call) to any other 10-4 user , anywhere on the Netw ork.
Making and Receiving a 10-4 Call Displaying the 10-4 List From standby mode, press (left softkey) or to access the 10-4 List. T ip: The first time you access the list, the 10-4 Help message will appear . Press (left softkey) and (left softkey) to read a brief introduction of 10-4.
Making a 10-4 Call (1-to-1 Call) Y ou can place a 1-to-1 10-4 call by selecting a Contacts entr y from the 10-4 List. 1. Press (left softkey) or to access the 10-4 List. 2. Press (left softke y), and select the list from which you want to place a call ( Company List , Personal List , 10-4 Outgoing , 10-4 Incoming , or 10-4 Missed ) and press .
Making a 10-4 Call (Group Call) Y ou can make a 10-4 call to all members in a Group entr y , whic h you hav e in your 10-4 List. Y ou can communicate with up to five members at a time. 1. Press (left softkey) or to access the 10-4 List. 2. Press (left softke y), and select the list from which you want to make a Group call ( Company Grps.
3. Enter the 10-4 number you want to dial. 4. Follow steps 2-4 abov e. Making a 10-4 Call Using the Call List Key T o place a 1 0-4 call using the Call List k ey: 1. Press with the phone closed. Recent Calls list appears on the sub LCD . 2. Use to select a 10-4 histor y entr y .
Receiving a 10-4 Call 1. Make sure your phone ’ s 10-4 mode is enabled (see “ Setting 10-4 Mode ” on page 89). 2. When you receiv e a 10-4 call from a Contacts entr y , “ 10-4 Call, ” the entr y ’ s name, and the 10-4 number appear on the display .
10-4 Options When you use 10-4, sever al user options are available by pressing (right softkey). Edit to edit a 10-4 number and/or name. (See pa ge 99.) Send Message to send a text messag e. (See pa ge 105 f or details.) Copy to Personal to copy a 10-4 Contacts entr y in the Personal Grps.
