Getting Started With PCS Service Determine if Y our Phone is Already Activated If you receiv ed your phone in the mail or purchased it at a Sprint Store, it probably has already been activated. All you need to do is unlock your phone. If your phone is not activated, please ref er to the Start Here Guide included with your phone.
Setting Up Y our V oicemail All unansw ered voice calls to your PCS Phone are automatically transf erred to voicemail, e ven if your phone is in use or turned of f. Theref ore, you will want to set up your voicemail and per sonal greeting as soon as your PCS Phone is activated.

Front View of Phone Key Functions 1. Antenna: Raise the antenna fully for optimal call quality and signal strength. 2. Side V olume Keys: Let you adjust the receiver volume dur ing a call or ringer volume in standby mode. 3. Speaker: Allows you hands-free conv ersation while in speakerphone mode.

T urning Y our Phone On and Off T urning Y our Phone On Press for approximately two seconds to tur n your phone on. Note: When you turn on your phone for the first time, you will be asked to activate PCS Ready Link service. Press or OK (left softkey) to use PCS Ready Link service.
Using Y our Phone’ s Battery Battery Capacity Y our PCS Phone is equipped with a Lithium Ion (LiIon) batter y . It allows you to recharge your batter y before it is fully drained. The batter y provides approximately 4.5 hour s of continuous digital talk time (2.
Charging the Battery Y our PCS Phone comes with a recharg eable batter y . Y ou should charg e the batter y as soon as possible so you can begin using your phone.
Displaying Y our Phone Number Just in case you forget your phone number , your PCS Phone can remind you. T o display your phone number (it is the same as PCS Ready Link number): 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Phone Book or Phone Info , and press .
Answering V oice Calls 1. Make sure your phone is on. (If your phone is of f, incoming calls go to voicemail.) 2. Press or to answ er an incoming call.
Answering a Roam Call With Call Guard Enabled T o answer a call when you are roaming and Call Guard is enabled: 1. Press or . 2. The following messa g e will appear .
Changing Ringer V olume T o change the r inger volume, adjust the Side V olume keys or / on the Navigation key when the phone is in standb y mode. Note: T o change the ringer volume from the main menu, see “Adjusting the Phone’ s Volume Settings” on page 40.
Missed Ready Link Call Notification When an incoming PCS Ready Link Call is not answ ered, the Missed PCS Ready Link Call log is display ed on your screen. T o call the last Missed PCS Ready Link Call: Press and hold to place the call and get the f loor .
Dialing Options Dialing options are display ed when you press after enter ing numbers in the phone’s standby mode. T o select an option, highlight it and press . Call to dial the phone number . Call:Speaker On to dial the phone number in speakerphone mode.
In-Call Options During a call, your phone displays menu options when you press . T o select an option, highlight it and press . Flash to answ er an incoming Call W aiting call or connect a third party dur ing Three-W ay Calling. Mute or Unmute Select Mute to mute your phone’s microphone.
End-of-Call Options T o display the following options, press within 10 seconds after disconnecting a call. T o select an option, highlight it and press . Call Again to dial the phone number . Call:Speaker On to dial the phone number in speakerphone mode.
Finding a Phone Number Y ou can search internal Phone Book entries for phone number s that contain a specific str ing of numbers. T o find a phone number: 1. Enter four or more digits and press . The more numbers you enter , the more specific the search becomes.
Abbreviated Dialing When you enter four dig its of a phone number , the screen displays “ Abbrev . Dial. ” Y our phone dials the phone number in your internal Phone Book that ends with the four digits you entered. T o make a call using Abbreviated Dialing: 1.
Using PCS Ready Link PCS Ready Link is a walkie-talkie-style communication feature. It allows you to quickly connect with your friends, family , and co-wor kers with just the push of a button. Y ou can make 1-to-1 or 1-to-many calls (up to 5 others on the same call) to any other PCS Ready Link user , anywhere on the Sprint Nationwide PCS Network.
Accessing the PCS Ready Link List T o access the PCS Ready Link List: Press (side of the phone) or R-Link (left softke y). – or – 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Ready Link and press . Note: When you activate PCS Ready Link for the first time, the PCS Ready Link help message appears.
Making a PCS Ready Link Call (1-to-1 Call) Y ou can place 1-to-1 PCS Ready Link calls by selecting a recipient, called a contact. Each contact has a name and a PCS Ready Link number , which are display ed during PCS Ready Link call. T o place a PCS Ready Link Call by selecting a contact: 1.
Making a PCS Ready Link Call (Group Call) Y ou can make a PCS Ready Link call to all members in a Group entr y in your PCS Ready Link calling list. Y ou can communicate with up to five other Ready Link users at the same time in walkie-talkie-style. 1.
Receiving a PCS Ready Link Call (1-to-1 Call) 1. When you receiv e a PCS Ready Link call from a contact, “ Call, ” the contact’s name and the PCS Ready Link number appear on the display . 2. Press and hold to get the f loor . Y ou can get the f loor before hearing a voice if nobody has the f loor .
PCS Ready Link Options T o access PCS Ready Link options, access the PCS Ready Link List and press Options (right softkey). T o select an option, highlight it and press . Edit to edit a PCS Ready Link number and/or a name. See page 34 for details (Personal List only).
Copying an Entry to Y our Personal List Y ou can copy an entr y to your P ersonal List. If the selected entr y is already stored in the Personal List, the “cop y” option does not appear . T o copy an entr y from Redial or Company List: 1. From the PCS Ready Link List, highlight Redial or your desired entr y in the Company List and press .
Saving a PCS Ready Link Number Y ou can sav e a PCS Ready Link number by entering the number or from the ending display . If the number is already stored in the P ersonal List, the “save” softke y does not appear . T o save by entering the number: 1.
Adding a New Group Y ou can add new groups to the Personal List. Each group can include up to 5 members. Enter a group member directly , or select the member from the Company List or the Personal List. T o add a new group entr y: 1. From the PCS Ready Link List, press Go to (left softkey), highlight Personal List , and press .
Editing a Contact in Y our Personal List T o edit a Personal List contact: 1. From the PCS Ready Link List, press Go to (left softkey), highlight Personal List and press . 2. Highlight your desired contact and press Options (r ight softkey). 3. Highlight Edit and press .
Options Edit to edit a member’ s name and/or a number . (See step 4 below .) Erase to erase a member’ s entr y . Add New to add a new member . (See pa ge 33.) Add (Company) to add a new member from the Company List. (See page 33.) Add (Personal) to add a new member from the Personal List.

Selecting Ringer T ypes for Voicemail T o select a r inger type for voicemail: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Settings and press . 3. Highlight Sounds and press . 4. Highlight Ringer T ype and press . 5. Highlight V oicemail and press .
Selecting a T one Length Longer tone lengths may be better for tone recognition when dialing voicemail or other automated systems. T o select a tone length: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Settings and press . 3. Highlight Sounds and press .
Adjusting the Phone’ s V olume Settings T o adjust the Ringer or K e y volume: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Settings and press . 3. Highlight Sounds and press . 4. Highlight Ringer/Key Vol. and press . 5. Select the item you wish to chang e and press .
Alert Notification Y our phone comes with several dif fer ent options to keep you aware of what’ s going on by sounding the aler t or ringer . Service sets aler t On or Off for network ser vices parameter chang es. V oicemail sets an alert to notify you of voice messages.
Silence All There may be times when you need to silence your phone entirely . The phone’ s Silence All option allows you to mute all sounds without turning your phone off. T o activate Silence All: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Settings and press .
Display Settings Changing the T ext Greeting The te xt greeting can be up to 15 characters and is displayed on your phone’ s screen in standby mode. Y ou may choose to display a custom greeting or you may display your PCS User name on the phone’ s screen (the default setting).
Always Off alwa ys tur ns the backlight off. Always On keeps the backlight on. Note: Always On setting returns to previous value, the next time you turn on the phone. T o change the Keypad backlight setting: 1. From step 5 above, select the menu under Key and press .
Changing the Display for Incoming Calls Y ou can set the color or downloaded image (screen saver) to be shown on the incoming calls display . T o change the incoming calls display: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Settings and press . 3.
World Clock displays the time of the selected countr y along with the local time. Y ou can scroll the W orld Clock list by pressing / on the Navigation key , select Summer (left softkey) or Standard (right softke y) for changing betw een daylight savings and standard time if applicable.
Changing the Contrast T o adjust the display’ s contrast: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Settings and press . 3. Highlight Display and press . 4. Highlight Contrast and press . 5. Select your desired setting and press . Changing the Phone’ s Main Menu Style T o select the display’ s main menu style: 1.
Changing the Font Size There are four font size settings for the message notification and browser . T o change the font size, follow these steps: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Settings and press . 3. Highlight Display and press . 4. Highlight Font Size and press .
Airplane Mode When your phone is in Airplane Mode, it cannot send or receive any calls or access online information. Y ou may still use the phone’ s other featur es, such as Games, V oice Memos, Calendar , etc., while you are in Airplane Mode. T o set your phone to Airplane Mode: 1.
T o turn TTY Mode on or of f: 1. From standb y mode, press . 2. Press . 3. Highlight Save Phone# and press . 4. Highlight Accessibility and press . 5. Highlight TTY On or TTY Off and press . Highlight Learn More and press dur ing step 5 above for instruction.
Phone Setup Options Shortcut Y our phone offers you the option of assigning a shor tcut key to a fav or ite or often-used function. Pressing on the Navigation key in standby mode will launch your user-defined shortcut. T o assign your shortcut ke y: 1.
Setting Any Key Answer This feature allows you to answ er incoming calls by pressing any ke y (e xcept ,,,, the Side V olume ke ys, or the Navigation key). T o activate this feature: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Settings and press . 3.
Setting Abbreviated Dialing Abbr eviated Dialing is another form of speed dialing. If the last four digits you enter using abbr eviated dialing do not match any stored phone book entr y , the digits are automatically prepended with the digits specified using the following steps.
With the headset: V oice Call: Press the T urbo Button to activate V oice dial. Press twice to redial the last call. Press and hold the button to record a V oice Memo. Ready Link: Press and hold the T urbo Button to redial the last PCS Ready Link call.
Setting Message Notification Y ou can see message notification when you receive a te xt message or V oicemail while you are in PCS V ision applications or browser mode. T o set your phone’ s message notification: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2.
Section 2C Setting Y our Phone’ s Security In This Section Accessing the Security Menu Locking Y our Phone Unlocking Y our Phone Using Special Numbers Security Features for PCS Vision SM B y using the security settings on your PCS Phone, you receive peace of mind without sacr ificing f lexibility .
Accessing the Security Menu Y ou must enter your lock code to view the Secur ity menu. T o access the Secur ity menu: 1. Press to access the main menu.
Unlocking Y our Phone T o unlock your phone: 1. Press Unlock (left softkey). 2. Enter your lock code. Changing the Lock Code T o change your lock code: 1. From the Security Menu display (see “ Accessing the Secur ity Menu” on pa ge 57), highlight SecuritySetting and press .
Options: Allow All: Calls are not restr icted; you can make or receive all calls. Phone Book Only: Onl y Phone Book entries, V oicemail, or special numbers (see on this pa ge) are available to make or receive calls. Special #s Only: Onl y three special number s are availab le to make or receive calls.
Erasing the Internal Phone Book T o erase all the names and phone number s in your inter nal Phone Book: 1. From the Security Menu display (see “ Accessing the Secur ity Menu” on pa ge 57), highlight Erase PhoneBook and press . 2. If you’ re sure you want to erase your Phone Book, highlight Ye s and press .
Resetting and Locking Y our Phone through SMS When your phone is lost or stolen, you can erase your impor tant personal information (such as phone book entr ies, call histor y , and messages) and lock your phone by sending a special formatted SMS message to your phone.
Security Features for PCS Vision SM Signing In and Out of PCS Vision Services Y ou can sign out of PCS Vision ser vices without turning of f your phone; however you will not have access to all PCS Vision ser vices, including W eb and messaging. Signing out will avoid any charges associated with PCS Vision ser vices.

Understanding Roaming Recognizing Icons on the Display Screen Y our phone’ s display screen always lets you know when you’ re off the Sprint Nationwide PCS Network and whether your phone is operating in analog or dig ital mode. The following chart indicates what you’ ll see depending on where you’ re using your phone.
Roaming on Analog Networks When you roam on analog networ ks, you will experience a similar quality provided by other analog carr iers today . Although some featur es, such as PCS Vision and PCS V oice Command, may be unavailable, you can still make and receive calls and access voicemail.
Setting Y our Phone’ s Roam Mode Y our PCS Phone allows you to control your ability to roam. By using the Roaming menu option, you can determine which signals your phone accepts. Set Mode Choose from three different settings on your dual- band phone to control your roaming experience.
Controlling Roaming Charges Using Call Guard In addition to the roaming icon, Call Guard alerts you when roaming charg es apply . This feature makes it easy to mana ge your roaming charg es by reminding you when you make or receive roaming calls. It also requires you to take an additional step before placing or answering a roaming call.
Section 2E Navigating Through Menus In This Section Menu Navigation Menu Structure Viewing the Menus T his section is a road map to using your PCS Phone. Every function and feature can be accessed through an onscreen menu. T ake a few moments to learn your way around and you’ ll find your phone easier to use.
Menu Navigation The Navigation key on your PCS Phone allows you to scroll through menus quickl y and easily . The scroll bar at the r ight of the menu keeps track of your position in the menu at all times. T o navigate through a menu, simply press / on the Navigation key .

Viewing History Y ou’ ll find the Call Histor y feature ver y helpful. It is a list of the last 20 phone number s (or inter nal Phone Book entries) for calls you placed, accepted, or missed.
Making a Call From Call History T o place a call from Call Histor y: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Call History and press . 3. Highlight Outgoing Calls , Incoming Calls , or Missed Calls . 4. Press . 5. Highlight the entr y you want to call by scrolling through the list.
Prepending a Phone Number From Call History If you need to make a call from Call Histor y and you happen to be outside your local area code, you can add the appropriate prefix by following these steps: 1. Highlight a call histor y entr y and press . 2.

Internal Phone Book Entry Options T o access an inter nal Phone Book entr y’ s options, display an entr y and press , then select the box under your desired label and press Options (right softkey). (See “F inding Internal Phone Book Entries” on pa ge 83.
Entering T ext Selecting a Character Input Mode Y our PCS Phone provides convenient ways to enter wor ds, letter s, punctuation, and number s whenever you are prompted to enter text (for e xample, when adding an internal Phone Book entr y). T o change the character input mode: 1.
Adding a W ord to the T9 Database If a word you want to enter does not display as an option when you are using T9 T ext Input, you can add it to the database. T o add a word to the T9 T ext Input data base: 1. Select the Alphabet input mode. (See “Selecting a Character Input Mode” on page 78.
Entering Characters by T apping the Keypad T o enter characters by tapping the ke ypad, select the Alphabet mode (see “Selecting a Character Input Mode” on pa ge 78). Press the corresponding ke y until the desired character appears. By default, the first letter of a word is capitalized and following letters are lower case.
Entering Numbers, Symbols, and Smileys Entering NUMBERS T o enter number s: 1. In a text entry field, press the r ight softkey . 2. Highlight NUMBER and press . 3. Press the corresponding numeric ke y to enter the number . Shortcut: Press and hold the corresponding numeric key to enter a number directly in alphabet mode or T9 mode.
Adding a New Internal Phone Book Entry Y our PCS Phone can store up to 300 internal Phone Book entr ies. Phone book entries can store up to a total of 500 phone numbers and an entr y’ s name can contain sixteen characters. T o add a new entr y: 1. Press to access the main menu.
Finding Internal Phone Book Entries There are se ver al ways to display your inter nal Phone Book entries. Follow the steps outlined in the sections below to display entries from the internal Phone Book menu.
Find Long Phone Numbers T o find phone number s you have stored in Long Phone Number s: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Phone Book and press .
Selecting a Ringer/Image T ype for an Entry Y ou can assign a ringer/image type to an internal Phone Book entr y so you can identify the caller by the ringer or image type. (See “Ringer Types” on page 37.) T o select a r inger/imag e type for an entr y: 1.
Secret Internal Phone Book Entries Y ou can hide an entr y’ s phone number(s) and require your lock code to edit the entr y by making it secret. The entr y name is still displayed, but the entr y’ s phone number s are replaced b y “(SECRET .)” T o make an entr y secret: 1.

Managing the Scheduler Calendar Use the Calendar to remind you of events or important calls you need to make. Y ou can schedule up to 100 events, 15 Call Alarms and 20 T o-Do Items. Setting the T ime/Date In a no-ser vice area or in an analog ser vice area, it’ s necessar y to set the actual time and date to use the Calendar function.
Adding an Event to the Scheduler Y our Scheduler helps organize your time and reminds you of important events (up to 100 events). T o add an event: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Calendar and press . 3. Highlight the day you want to add an event to by using the Navigation key and press .
