93 2 INTRODUCTION Ŷ Read this manual caref ully before using the Product and follow the instru ctions for safety operation. Ŷ Sanyo disavows any responsibility for safety if the Product is used for other than the intended use or used with any procedure s other than those given in this manual.
94 3 PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE OPERATION It is imperative that the user complies with this manual as it contains important safety advice. Items and procedures are described so that you can use this unit correctly and safely. If the precautions advised are followed, this will prevent possible injury to the user and any other person.
95 4 Do not use the unit outdoors. Current leakage or elect ric shock may result if the unit is exposed to rain water. Only qualified engineers or serv ice personnel should install the unit. The installation by unqualified personnel may cause electric shock or fire.
96 5 Ensure you do not inhale or consume medication or aero sols from around the unit at the time of maintenance. These may be harmful to your health. Never splash water directly onto the unit as this may cause el ectric shock or short circuit.
97 6 Use a dedicated po wer source (a dedicated circui t with a breaker) as indica ted on the rating label attached to the unit. A branched circuit may cause fire re sulting from abnormal heating. Connect the po w er supply plug to the po wer source firmly after removing the dust on the plug.
98 7 LABELS ON THE INCUBATOR Warning and caution label s are attached to the Incubator. The following table descri bes the labels. This label is attached to covers that access high-vol tage electrical component s to prevent electric shock. Only a qualified engineer or servi ce personnel should be allowed to open these covers.

100 9 1. Outer door: The outer door is held to the frame with a magnetic seal. A door heater is installed in the door panel. The door o pening is reversible. Co ntact a Sanyo representative or agent to change the door hinge from left to right or vice versa.
101 10 Control panel and keypad 1. LCD panel 2. Upper limit regulator : This regulator is used to set the upper temperature limit. 3. OVERHEAT indicator : This indicator lights when the chambe r temperature reaches the upper limit. 4. MENU Key : Press this key to access the menu.
102 11 Remote alarm terminals The remote alarm terminals are located at the rear right side. The remote alarm terminals are a co ntact output. Normal: Open Alarm: Closed Contact capacity: 30 VDC, 2 A Note: • When the power switch is OFF or power is interrupt ed, the contact output will be closed.
103 12 INSTALLATION SITE For correct operation of the Incubator , install it in a lo cation with the following conditions. WA R N I N G When usin g CO 2 gas for control, make sure that there is adequate v entilation . Using CO 2 gas in a small room without adequate ventilation may cause gas poi soning or oxygen deprivation.
104 13 Leveling feet INSTALLATION 1. Remove the p acking tape and clean up. Remove all the tap e that is securing the doors and i nner attachm ents. Open the doo rs for ventilation. If the outer panels a re dirty , dampen a cloth with a diluted neutral detergent and wipe the m.
105 14 Connecting a CO 2 gas cylinder WA R N I N G When connecting a gas cylinder to the Incubator , confirm the gas ty pe . Confirm that th e connections are secure and that no gas will escape .
106 15 PREVENTING CONTAMINATION T o prevent contamination of the chamber , select a suitable installati on site. z Avoid locations w ith high temperatures or humidity . Avoid locatio ns with high temperatures or humidity , because of a greater presence of microorga nisms in the air .
107 16 PRECAUTIONS FOR CULTURES z Leave sp ace between culture cont ainers. Always leave sp ace for ventilation between culture cont ainers (Petri dishes, flasks, etc.). Inadequate spacing may result in uneven temperatu re distribution and CO 2 gas concentration.
108 17 Using the Unlock Key z Unlocking when power is interrupted If power is interrupted to the MCO-19AIC(UV)/19AIC with an MCO-HL installe d, the outer door is electrically locked. T o unlock the outer door while the power is interrupted, use the unlock key that is provided.
109 18 LCD PANEL 㩷 㩷 The following display (called the Top Display) will appear wh en the power switch is turned ON. The default temperature is 37.0 o C and the default CO 2 density is 0%. The date and time are pre set at the factory. Refer to page 30 to change the date and time.

111 20 BASIC PARAMETERS 㩷 㩷 Setting the chamber temperature and CO 2 density 㩷 㩷 The setting procedure for t he chamber temperatu re and CO 2 density are given below. (Defa ult settings: 㩷 Chamber temperature: 37 o C, CO 2 densit y: 0%) 㩷 The Incubator automatically starts opera tion using these settings after the power is turned ON.
112 21 㩷 㩷 㩷㩷 Setting the key lock 㩷 㩷 1. To set the key lock, change the value of the key lock parameter from 0 to 1 on the Stand-by Setting Display and press the ENTER Key. The buzzer will sound briefly and the keys will be locked. 㩷 㩷 㩷 㩷 㩷 㩷 㩷 㩷 㩷 㩷 㩷 2.
113 22 㩷 㩷 Note: The buzzer will sound for a long time if the wrong passwo rd is entered. Enter the correct password. The password for releasing the key lock must be shared and administered among all users of the Incubator. The password i s set to 0000 when the Incubator is shipped fro m the factory.

118 27 㩷 㩷㩷 Precautions when using the UV lamp 㩷 WA R N I N G Do not look directly at UV light. UV light is harmful to the eyes. z Alwa ys use the humidifyi ng pan and humidifying p an cover . The humidifying pan and cover prevent UV light from escaping.

125 34 㩷 Transferring data 㩷 Use the following procedure to transfer the log data to a PC. 㩷㩷 㩷 1. To transfer the log data for one d ay, press the MENU Key to display the menu, select PC 1D, and press the ENTER Key. To transfer all of the log data, select PC All and press the ENTER Key.
126 35 WATER LEVEL SENSOR This Incubator is equipp ed with a water level sensor for th e humidifying pan. The sensor is set automatically when the hu midifying pan is installed. Take care n ot to damage the sensor wh en removing or installing the humidifying pan.
127 36 ROUTINE MAINTENANCE Cleaning the chamber and Inner attachments When using the Incu bator for the first time or when performing H 2 O 2 deco ntamination, refer to Removing Chamber Att achment s on the following page and rem ove and clean the inner att achment s.
128 37 5. Pull out the humidifying pan. (See Fig. 4.) 6. Loosen the two screws securing the fan cove r and take off the fan cover. (See Fig. 5.) 7. Lift the duct and remove it from the pins on the rear side. (See Fig. 6.) 8. Remove the chamber ci rculation fan by pulling out the central spring and then by pulling out the fan.
129 38 12. Clean all the attachments with a diluted neutral detergent, and then rinse the m thoroughly with distilled water. 13. Wipe the trays, the inner attachm ents such as the chamber circul ation fan, and the chamber side s with sterilizing alcohol.
130 39 Filling the humidifying pan Use the following procedure to fill the humidifying pan or to repl ace the water . 1. Lift the humidifying p an cover . (See Fig. 1.) 2. Pull the humidifying pan forward. (See Fig. 2.) 3. Dispose o f the remaining water in the pa n and clean the pa n with a neutral di shwashing deterg ent.
131 40 H 2 O 2 DECONTAMINATION 㩷 When the chamber ha s been cont aminated, or when cl eaning the chamber prior to starti ng a culture, H 2 O 2 decont amination can be perform ed using the H 2 O 2 Generator . z The following product s must be purchased sep arately in order to perform H 2 O 2 decontamination.
132 41 CAUTION Perform H 2 O 2 decont amination with the chamber att achments ar ranged as specified by Sanyo . Arranging them in a dif ferent way may result in insuf ficient decont amination. CAUTION Wear rubber gloves when handling the H 2 O 2 reagen t .
133 42 H 2 O 2 decontamination Use the following procedure to perform H 2 O 2 decontamination using the H 2 O 2 Generator (MCO-HP). 1. Take out all trays, tray supports, side supports, the humidifying pan cover, the humidifying pan, the fan cover, and the duct from the chamber.
134 43 6. Press the H 2 O 2 Key for 5 seconds. The system check will start. 7. If the system is normal, the following display will appea r. (If the system is not normal, refer to Table 2 on page 47.) Select OK and press the E NTER Key to start H 2 O 2 decontamination.
135 44 9. After completion of H 2 O 2 mist generation, “UV Resolve” will flash at the top of the screen, and H 2 O 2 gas resolution by UV light will start. 10. After H 2 O 2 gas resolution, H 2 O 2 decontaminat ion has been completed. The following display will appear.
136 45 12. Dilute the remaining H 2 O 2 reagent in the H 2 O 2 Generator with a large volume of water and dispose of it. Rinse and wash the H 2 O 2 Generator with distilled water. Then keep the H 2 O 2 Generator in a clean environment outside of the chamber.

143 52 DISPOSING OF THE CO 2 INCUBATOR WA R N I N G If the Incubator is to be stored unused for a perio d of time, ensure that children do not have access to the Incubator and that the Incubato r doors cannot be completely closed. If the doors can be closed, it may be possible for children to becom e locked inside.
