About this User’ s Guide Notice we call this booklet a “User’s Guide” and not an “Owner’s Manual.” This is because our intention is you use this guide just as you will be using your Nighthawk CO and Gas alarm.
Quick Set-Up Guide Step 1 Determine the best location for your CO and Gas alar m(s). Refer to page 1-3 for complete information. Step 2 Y our CO and Gas alarm is equipped to be mounted as a cord- ed unit (recommended for natural gas detection), a direct plug unit (recommended for propane gas detection) or a table top unit.
Part One – Y our Nighthawk CO and Gas Alarm About Y our CO and Gas Alarm The number one feature that sets Nighthawk apart from other alarms is its unique digital display that gives you a continuos read- out of CO levels from 30-999 parts per million and an easy method for determining if Gas is being detected.
Part One – Y our Nighthawk CO and Gas Alarm Nighthawk’ s Unique Features Digital Display The continuous digital display shows you the level of carbon monoxide (if any) the unit is sensing as well as if Gas is present. The unit updates this reading every 15 seconds so you can watch levels rise or fall.
Part One – Y our Nighthawk CO and Gas Alarm Where to Install Y our CO and Gas Alarm WHEN CHOOSING YOUR INST ALLA TION LOCA TIONS, MAKE SURE YOU CAN HEAR THE ALARM FROM ALL SLEEP- ING AREAS.
Do not install in excessively dusty, dirty or greasy areas such as kitchens, garages and furnace rooms. Dust grease or household chemicals can contaminate or coat the alarm’s sensors, causing the alarm not to operate properly. Do not obstruct the vents located at the top and bottom of the alarm.

How to T est Y our Alarm (continued) NOTE: Pressing the T est/Reset button tests the functions of the alarm’s internal components, circuitry and micro-computer.
