Introduction 4 Section 1: Introduction The Mondi™ (WiMAX Wireless In ternet T ablet) now lets you enhance your on-the-go experi ence. Y ou can no w take your computer with yo u and enjoy all of its funct ionality on a tablet powered by Microsoft’ s Wi ndows Mobile™ 6.
5 Initial De vice Setup If your device has never been powered on before and is initializing f or the first time, you will need to follow these procedures. These same steps are ne cessary if the device is e ver Hard Reset (to factor y default paramet ers).
Introduction 6 4. Use the drop down lists to adj ust the fields w ithin the date and time page. Options include T ime zone, Date, and T ime. • The Date field laun ches an onscreen cal endar .
7 Installing the Batter y Warning!: Do not handle a damaged or leaking Li-Ion battery as this action can result in being burned. 1. In a single motion, press down o n the cover , slide it away from the lens (1), and then carefully l ift the batter y cover (2) away from the device.
Introduction 8 3. Replace the cover by lining up the tab s and then firmly sliding the co ver away from th e lens until it snaps into place. Replaci ng the Bat ter y If there is a need to replace the pre-inst alled ba tter y , follo w these instructions.
9 Using the Kickstand The Mondi comes with a kickst and that is built into the rear battery cover and can be pulled ou t to support the device when rested upon a flat surface. 1. T urn the unit over to reve al the back battery cove r . 2. Insert your finger into the gr oove at the end of the stand and carefully pull outwards.
Introduction 10 Note: The device has been tested to support cards of up to 32GB. This microSD card is an optional accessory, a card greater than 2GB is recommended. Warn ing!: DO NOT remove a microSD card while files are being accessed or transferred, as this can result in loss or damage of data.
11 R emo val of the mic r oSD Card 1. Locate the mi croSD card slot on the underside of the device and flip open the microS D card slot cover . 2. Firmly press the card into the slot and release it. The ca rd should pop partially out of the slot. Note: Y ou may need to use the tip of the included Stylus to push the card into the slot.
Introduction 12 Installing the Mondi into the Na vigation Car Kit Mondi comes with a Car Kit that allows you to mount the device onto a car’ s windshield. This is useful when using the Mon di’ s Route66™ applicati on to receive (call out/displ ay) driving directions.
13 Note: It is recommended that you clean the windshield area prior to affixing the suction cup. This clean surface helps to better adhere the Car Kit and establish a secure bond. 4. Firmly c lasp both pieces (now join ed) and secure the suction cup to the windshield ( 4 ).
Basics 14 Section 2: Basics Y our Mondi™ Internet T ablet is packed with features that simplify your life and expand your ab ility to keep you both connected to your office and stay in touch with the people that are important to you. This se ction will guide you through the basic functions featur es of your device.
15 Y our Device 1. Display shows the information needed to operat e your device, such as the signal st rength, battery level, time, active application, etc. 2. Webcam lens is used to shoot a st reaming video of t he user during a video conference. 3. Light sensor uses the ambient light level to adjust bo th screen bright ness/contrast.
Basics 16 5. Left Action key ( ) is used to launch either the MobileWidget scre en or the T askSwitcher application. • Single press (quick) toggle s between the MobileW idget screen where you ca n use available Widgets (pag e 35) and the T oday screen.
17 15. Pag e U p / Dn allows you to navigate up and down through the currently active page, and also to navigate through the different m enu options. 16. Right Softkey ( ) is used to navigate through menus and applications by selecting the choice i ndicated on the lower right area of the disp lay screen.
Basics 18 24. Headset jack allows you to plug in a stereo he adset (sold separately). 25. Stylus storage loca tion of include d stylus touch pen. It is recommended that you use th is pen when making your onscreen selections. Using your fingers can be less accurate, possibly scratch the screen, and leave unnecessary residue.
19 30. Camera/Mirror provides a 3.0 MP camera, with inclu ded mirror , that lets you take pictures and shoot videos. Naviga ting the T oday Screen Mondi™ is powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 ® Classic, providing the power and familiarity of Mi crosoft Windows.
Basics 20 T od ay Scre en Functi ons 1. Tit le Bar located at the top of the screen, displays the currently active program, wi reless status, and allows you to close currently active scre ens. Click on the status icons to access ab breviated Connectivity , Volume, and Battery settings menus.
21 4. Home Shortcut ( ) displays the T oday screen that contains quick links to IM, Outlook email, D ate/Time information, Internet Phone, and a ny Upcoming Appointments. 5. Web P ages Shortcut ( ) displays either a Thumbnail or Perspectiv e view of currently stored Favorite W eb Bookmarks or Browsing History.
Basics 22 • Instant Messenger displays any unread chat messages. • Outlook Email displays the number of unrea d email messages. •C l o c k displays the current date and time information . • Internet Phone displa ys any missed In ternet Phone calls.
23 Locking Y our De vice The device can be lock ed either manuall y or automatically via the Settings menu. Manuall y Lockin g the D evice This manual process temporarily locks the device without the need to util ize a password. 1. Single press the Power b utton ( ) to turn off the screen but keep the device on in the background.
Basics 24 Setting Up an A utomatic Lock State When you setup an automa tic lock on your device, it requires a password be entered prior to re turning to normal operation. When a password is set up, the device can be locked immediately upon co mmand, configured to lo ck after a specified period of inac tivity , or after the LCD blan ks out.
25 Note: This hint may be visible to others, so do not enter your password into this field. The hint you set will only appear after five consecutive incorrect passwords have been entered. 4. T ouch to save your new password hint. Unlocking t he Device aft er a Time out 1.
Basics 26 T o close your applications: 1. T o uch the application’ s softkey option Menu > Exit . – or – Press and hold (left a ction key) to launch the T askSwitcher application. • This applicat ion visually displays any applications curren tly running in the background .
27 Note: Scrolling requires that you press firmly on the screen then drag. When scrolling through a list (see adjacent image) make sure not to touc h or press individual entries on the list as this will open the list entry.

T a p either an individual onscreen Reset button for either the Main Stora ge or My Storage lo cations. – or – Ta p Clear Memory to delete both loca tions. • If select ing the Clear Memory opt ion, you wi ll need to t ype in ‘Yes’ within the onscree n field and the n tap Ye s to continue.
31 2. In a single motion, use your t humbs to slide the top section of the device up to open, as sho wn in the following illustration. The built-in QWERTY keyboard supports quick and easy text input, just as you would when using a computer’ s keyboard.
Basics 32 The keyboard provides dual-use keys labeled wi th alphabetic characters on the lower half and numbers and symbols on the upper half. Press the key comb ination corresponding to the character you want to enter . Entering Characters Characters can be ente red using either Uppercase or Lowercase.
33 2. Press the desired key . – or – T o only enter all top row characters , press twice. • For example, to enter “11:30”, you would use the key board sequence shown below . • If you mak e a mistake and en ter the wrong char acter , press to erase a si ngle charact er .
Basics 34 Entering T ext using the Onscreen Keyboard In those onscreen pages where te xt can be entere d into eith er fields, strings, or messages, the de vice also provides access to an onscreen virtua l QWERTY keyboar d. 1. From a pl ace where you can enter text, touch the onscreen text field.
35 Widgets The MobileWidget page (via the Widge t Ba r) provides quick access to mini-programs (widgets). This bar gives you information a t a glance and provides easy acce ss to frequently used tools.
Basics 36 • Widget Desktop - is the availa ble workspa ce where you ca n place any desir ed widget a pps. Once plac ed on the Wid get Desktop, th ey are immedi ately a vailabl e and active. Th eir positi on on the desktop can easily be changed by , in a single motion, tou ching and dragging to a ne w location.
37 Note: Widgets are not activated by default on the device but must first be activated via the Widgets menu. Placing Widg ets on Separate Pages The three buttons at the top of the Widget Desktop correspond to available pages that c an cont ain Widgets.
Basics 38 Widget Icons The following table contains a de scription of eac h availabl e Widget, it’ s function, and how to navigate to that particular applicatio n. If the appl ication is alread y described in another section of this user manual, on ly a cross reference is then provided.
39 Photo : allows you to view the list of dev ice images , received in messages, or taken by the camera. Y ou can then set/assign the ima ge as the current wallpaper for the Widget Desktop. • For more infor mation, refer to “Widgets” on page 35.

AccuWeather : uses your curren t data connection to access an d display an onscreen popup containing real-time weathe r information for a specifi ed location.
41 Section 3: Communica tion and Connection Communication Setup Y our device is ca pable of obtain ing broadband Internet Access via either of th ese two available meth ods: • Wi-Fi access • Mobil.
Communication and Connection 42 Access ing t he W ire less Ma nager W idget 1. From t he To d a y screen, touch Start () > Programs > Widget . 2. In a single motion, touch an d drag the Wireless Manager widget ( ) from its current lo cation on the Widget Bar and move it to the Widget Desktop.
43 Activating Wi-Fi Communication Wi-Fi communication requires access to an existing and accessible Wireless Acce ss Point (WAP). These W APs can either be Open (unsecured) as within most Hot Spots, or Secured (requiring knowledge of the Router name and password).

Select from t he following secu rity connection presets from the Connects to drop down: – Select The Internet if the network con nects to the Internet (does not use proxy settings). – Select Wor k if the network does not co nnect to the Internet (uses proxy settings).

T ouch the Device ID tab and double tap the Device name field to highlight current name. Note: Y ou can also view the Device Name via the My Info tab within the Bluetooth Settings page.
Communication and Connection 50 Making Bluetooth S ecure When the Bluetooth V isibility on your Mondi is turned on, your device is wirelessly tr ansmitting its device name and status to every device within its range. This transmission can pose a security risk and inci te unauthorized connection to yo ur device.
51 Section 4: Customiza tions Mondi comes equi pped with several programs, such as the Office Mobile Suite, built-in ca mera/camcorder , Outlook emai l compatibility, Windows Media Player , et c. It’ s best to begin our overview of t hese tools by first lea rning how to customize the device to best suit your quick access needs and personality .
Customizations 52 Beaming a T heme vi a Bluet ooth 1. From t he To d a y screen, touch Start () > Settings . 2. T ouch the Per s o n a l tab, then tap To d a y () .
53 4. Select those item s which will a ppear on the T oday screen by toggling ea ch entry either on or off. Changing the state is done by tapping each item and placing/removing a check mark adjacent to ea ch entry . • Remove these items by remov ing the check mark fro m each item.
Customizations 54 Note: This listing of applications are different than those Programs provided by the Windows Mobile 6.1 ® operating system ( Start > Pro grams ).
55 2. T ouch the System tab, then tap Backlight . • By default, the device i s set up to autom atically adju st the bac klight brightness level. 3. Ta p t h e Manual Adjustment radio box, then touch and dra g the slider to adj ust the brightness level.

T ouch a box to acti vate a fea ture and then alte r its corresponding field. • T urn on backlight turns the backlight back on af ter a shutof f, when a button is pressed or the screen is tapp ed. • T urn off backlight provides a po wer save featur e for your devi ce by turning of f only the screen.
57 4. T a p an option from the CPU Performance drop-d o wn list. This is similar to settings used when overc locking a desktop computer . • CPU Perform ance adjusts the processor’ s performance. Modificati ons to the perf ormance setting can either deplete the batter y faster (High) or extend ba tter y life (Lo w).
Synchronization 58 Section 5: Synchronization Y our device fea tures a built-in Act iveSync ® utility tha t allo ws you to synchronize data between yo ur computer and your device.
59 Y our devi ce will remain connecte d to the computer afte r synchronization is c omplete. If any selected conte nt is changed on your computer (new email, photos, playlist updates, etc.) Microsoft Activ eSync automat icall y re-syncs the information on the device.
Synchronization 60 T o set up an Exchange Ser ver connection, comple te the following steps. • Check the b ox in the Synchronize directly with a server running Microsoft Exchange field (2) and click Next . Note: The information in these fields is case-sensitive.
61 Note: Media synchronization can require that you launch Windows Media Player to finish the process of setting up the partnership. Setting Up Windows Media Play er Sync Options If you choose to sync.
Synchronization 62 6. Enter a new name for the device (as it will appear within the Windows Media Player’ s left pane) and click Finish . For more detailed information on creating a unique device name, see “Creating a Device Name” on page 49. Synchronizing Music with W indows Media Play er 1.
63 Connecting to the De vice via ActiveSync ActiveSync allo ws you to sync hronize da ta between your computer and your device. Sync hronization compares the data on your device with your desk top computer and updates both your device and computer with the latest data.
Synchronization 64 Loading Files to Y our microSD Car d Verify your microSD card i s securely installed into the de vice. For more information, refer to “Installation of the microSD Card” on page 10.
65 For m att in g t he mic ro SD Car d Both the internal device storage loca tion (Main Storage) and microSD card (Stora ge Card) can be cleared of content via a Hard Reset and refo rmat process. The Main Storage (My Device) location has only ~90 MB of storage capacity to contain your installed applicat ions and files.

Plug the other end of the USB cable into your Power/USB Data jack lo cated on the side of t he device. – or – From t he To d a y screen, touch Application () > Basic Settings > USB . 5. This will be the name used in the From field when your emails go out to recipients. • If desired, use the keyb oard to also update the Account display name you wish to use for this emai l account.
Email Setup 72 • Use the same name and password for sending e-mail to use the same user nam e and password for outgo ing mail as for incoming mail (can only be sel ected if the Outgoing server requir es authen tication box is checked).
73 10. Either confirm the outgoing (SMTP) mail se r ver information and field selections are corre ct, or make changes, and touch Next (right softkey). 11. From this Outgoing (SMTP) sc reen, confirm the correct SMTP information and then touch the blue Advanced Server Settings link.

Email Setup 76 9. Place a check adjacent to those boxes for the types of information you wish to sync hronize with the Exchange Server , and then touch Finish (left softkey). When the setup is complete, synchr onize to retrieve you r email messages. Y ou can also set up a sync schedule to automatically retrieve messages.
77 3. T ouch an email account to th en display a list of unre ad email messa ges. 4. T ouch an onscre en email messa ge to then read its contents. Use your Styl us to move the slider (on the right of the message) up or down to scroll through longer messages.

Calendar and Contacts 80 Editing a Calendar E vent 1. From t he To d a y screen, touch Start () > Calendar . 2. Locate the ev ent and tap the entry . 3. T ouch Menu (right softkey) > Edit to open the Calendar Event page where you can modify any necessary fields.
81 Contacts Y our device’ s Contacts list helps you stay in touch with colleagues , friends and family by keeping track of all their contact informa tion. Note: If your device was synchronized to your Outlook account via ActiveSync, your current Contacts list would contain populated entries.
Calendar and Contacts 82 Adding a New Conta ct 1. From t he To d a y screen, touch (Favorite Co ntacts shortcut). 2. Slide or touch an empty Contact entry to th e center position and tap the card (indic ated by a Plus sign where a picture would be). This op ens the Phonebook page.
83 10. Select a Category type for th e current contact by touching the Categories field and touching th e selection field and placing a ch eckmark alongside thos e categories you wish to assign. • If new categor ies exist, touch Menu (right softkey) > New Categor y to begin creating yo ur own.

Applications 86 Microsoft Mobile Applications - Office Mobile Mondi is loaded with m obile versions of the following 2007 Office applications: Excel Mobile, Word Mobile, PowerPoint Mobile, and OneNote Mobile . Exce l Mobile Ov er view Excel Mobile works with Microsof t Excel on your compute r to give you easy access to copies of your workbooks.

Applications 90 Media Play er Controls With the Media Player window op en, you can change or use any of the followin g application functions: • Magnification - allows you to toggle between a F ullscreen and Fit to Page view . T o exit from the Fullscreen mode, tap the screen.
91 Loadin g a Media File into t he Player 1. From the To d a y screen, touch Start () > Programs > MultiMedia Player . The application then searches both the built-in storage areas and an y folder locat ions within the internal microSD card. 2. T ouch the bottom tab to then s elect a MultiMedia Player appl icatio n.
Applications 92 If you try to play DivX VOD content not authorized fo r your device, the message "Authorization Error" will be displayed and your content will not play .
93 3. T ouch the Alarm field and enter a uni que name for this alarm event. For more information, refer to “Entering T ext Using the QWERTY Keyboard” on page 30. 4. Select a repeating status for the alarm by touching either On or Off . 5. Select the week day assigned to the alarm by touching the onscreen day (Sunday - Saturday).

Creati ng a New A nniversar y Event Y our device comes with a built -in Anniversary feature that provides the ability to c reate reminde rs for specific anniversar y events based on a calendar date (versus a time event).

97 Using the Stop Watch Y our devi ce comes with a built-in stopwatch feature. 1. From the To d a y screen, touch Start () > Programs > Clocks . – or – From the To d a y screen, touch the Da te/Time shortcut. 2. Ta p t h e StopWatch tab. 3. T ouch Start (right softkey) to turn on the timer .
Applications 98 3. T ap the World Clock Map on the scre en. 4. Find a city on the world map by touching one of the blue ocean areas and in a single motion touch and drag the map across the screen. 5. Double tap a city to view th e current time. The selected time zone will turn blue.
99 3. T ouch the drop-do wn arrow ad jacent to the T ime Zone field to then sele ct a differen t city from your current time zone. – or – T ouch to open a list of world cities from which you can choose a new location.
