Assembling 14 Keys Key F unc tion P ower/ Reset 1 / Lock T urn on the device (press and hold); Acc ess the device options (press and hold); Reset the device (press and hold for 8-10 seconds); T urn off and lock the touch screen or turn it on.
Assembling 15 Inser t the SIM or USIM card and the battery When you subscribe to a c ellular ser vice, y ou will receive a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card, with subscription details, such as y our personal identification number (PIN) and optional ser vices .
Assembling 16 Inser t the SIM or USIM card with the gold-coloured 2 contacts facing downw ards. Do not inser t a memor y card int o the SIM card slot. If the memor y card becomes lodged in the SIM car d slot, you must take y our device to a Samsung Ser vice Cen tre to hav e the memor y card r emoved .
Assembling 17 Charge the ba tter y Before using the devic e for the first time or when the batt er y has been unused for an extended period, y ou must charge the battery . Y ou can charge the batter y with a trav el adapter or by connecting the device to a comput er with a USB cable.
Assembling 18 Charge with a tr av el adapter › Plug the small end of the trav el adapter into the 1 multifunction jack . Connecting the trav el adapter improperly may cause serious damage to the device . Any damage caused by misuse is not cov ered by the warran ty .
Assembling 19 When the battery is fully charged, first unplug the tra vel 3 adapter from the devic e, and then from the electrical socket. Do not remov e the battery while the device is connected to the trav el adapter . Doing so may damage the device.
Assembling 20 Charge with a USB cable › Before char ging, ensure that y our computer is turned on. Plug the small end (micro-USB) of the USB cable into the 1 multifunction jack . Plug the large end of the USB cable int o a USB por t on a 2 computer .
Assembling 21 Inser t a memor y card (optional) Y our device accepts memor y cards with maximum capacities of 64 GB. Depending on the memory card manufacturer and type, some memor y cards ma y not be compatible with your device.
Assembling 22 Push the memory card into the memory card slot until it 3 locks in place. Replace the back cov er . 4 Remov e a memor y card › Ensure that the devic e is not currently accessing the memory ca rd. In the application list, select 1 Settings → S torage → Unmount SD card → OK .
23 Getting star ted Getting star ted T urn on or off y our device Pr ess and hold the P ower key . 1 Enter the PIN supplied with y our SIM or USIM card and 2 select OK (if necessar y). If you are turning on your devic e for the first time , follow the on-screen instructions to set up your device .
24 Getting star ted Use the t ouch screen Y our device’ s touch screen lets y ou easily select items or per form functions. Learn basic actions for using the t ouch screen. Do not press the touch scr een with your fingertips, ● or use sharp tools on the touch screen.
25 Getting star ted Contr ol your touch scr een with the following actions: Ta p T ouch once to select or launch a menu, option, or application. T ap and hold T ap an item and hold it for mor e than 2 seconds. Dra g T ap an item and mov e it to a new location.
26 Getting star ted Flick Brisk ly scroll up , down, left, or right to move thr ough lists or screens. Pinch Place two of y our fingers far apar t, and then pinch them together . Y our device turns off the touch screen when you do ● not use it for a specified period.
27 Getting star ted Use motions Built-in motion rec ognition allows y ou to per form actions by moving your devic e or mak ing gestures with y our hands. T o use these functions, you must first activate the motion recog nition featur e. In the application list, select Settings → Motion .
28 Getting star ted T ilt While holding the device with two hands, tap and hold two points on the screen, and then tilt the device back and forth to zoom in or out when viewing images or brow sing webpages.
29 Getting star ted Shake Shake your device t o search for ● Bluetooth devices . Shake your device t o update ● the list of email messages or information fr om Y ahoo News, Y ahoo F inance, or AccuW eather . Updates will not w ork for widgets on the Home screen.
30 Getting star ted Hand sweep Sweep y our hand to the lef t or right across the scr een to capture a screenshot. Y ou cannot capture a screenshot while using some applications. Palm t ouch T ou ch th e s cr ee n wit h y ou r pa lm to pause media playback or mut e the FM r adio .
31 Getting star ted Lock or unlock the t ouch screen and the ke ys When you do not use the devic e for a specified period, y our device turns off the touch screen and locks the t ouch screen and the keys automatically t o preven t unintended operations .
32 Getting star ted Get to know the Home screen F rom the Home scr een, you can view your devic e’ s status and access applications . The Home screen has multiple panels . S croll left or right to view the panels on the Home screen. Y ou can also select one of the dots at the bottom of the scr een to move dir ec tly to the corresponding panel .

37 Getting star ted Ac cess applications Launch applications and take full advantage of f eatures on your device . Y ou can reorganise the application list to ma tch your pr eferenc es, or download applications fr om the I nternet to enhance y our device ’ s func tionality .
38 Getting star ted Organise applications › Y ou can change the order of applications in the application list or group them in to categories. In the application list, press the Option key and select 1 Edit . T ap and hold an application icon. 2 Organise applications: 3 T o mov e the application, drag it to a new location.
39 Getting star ted Ac cess recen tly-used applications › Pr ess and hold the Home key to view the applications y ou 1 have ac cessed rec ently . Select an application. 2 Launch multiple applications Y our device allows you to multitask b y running multiple applications at the same time .

42 Getting star ted Adjust the brigh tness manually In the application list, select 1 Settings → Displa y → Brightness . Clear the tick box next to 2 Aut omatic brightness . Drag the slider to the left or right. 3 Select 4 OK . › Lock y our device Y ou can lock your device by activating the screen lock f eature .
43 Getting star ted Adjust the device t o fit your face inside the figur e. 3 When your fac e is captured correctly , select 4 Con tinue . Select 5 . Say a wor d or phrase to use as an unlock command 6 4 times. Select 7 Done . Complete the setup of the sec ondar y unlock PIN or 8 pattern.
44 Getting star ted Set an unlock password In the application list, select 1 Settings → Security and lock screen → Screen lock → P assword . Enter a new passw ord (alphanumeric) and select 2 Con tinue . Enter the passw ord again and select 3 OK .
45 Getting star ted Activat e the F ind my mobile f eature › When someone inserts a new SIM or USIM card into your lost or stolen device , the F ind my mobile f eature will send the contact number to your specified r ecipients automatically , so that you can locat e and reco ver your devic e.
46 Getting star ted Enter t ext Y ou can enter text by speak ing wor ds into the microphone, by selecting characters on the vir tual keypad, or by writing on the screen. T ext entr y is not suppor ted in some languages . T o enter text, you must change the input language to one of the suppor ted languages .
47 Getting star ted Y ou can also use the following keys: Number F unc tion 1 Change the case. 2 Switch t ext input modes. 3 Acc ess the keypad settings. T ap and hold to switch to Handwriting mode , enter text by voice , or access the clipboard. 4 Clear your input.
48 Getting star ted When entering te xt with the 3x4 keypad, you can use the follo wing modes: Mode F unc tion ABC 1. Select to switch to ABC mode . 2. Select a corresponding vir tual key until the appropriate char acter appears. Number 1. Select to switch to Number mode .
Communication 49 C ommunication Calling Learn to use calling functions, such as making and answering calls, using options av ailable during a call, or customising and using call-relat ed featur es. T o prev ent accidental inputs , turn on the proximity ● sensor to lock the touch scr een when you hold the device near your fac e.
Communication 50 Answ er a call › During an incoming call, select 1 and then drag your finger outside of the large circle . T o mute the ringtone , press the V olume key . Select 2 End call to end the call. Rejec t a call › During an incoming call, select and then drag your finger outside of the large circle .
Communication 51 Use a headset › Connect a headset to your devic e to answer and con trol calls conv eniently . T o answer a call , press the headset button. ● T o reject a call, pr ess and hold the headset button. ● T o place a call on hold or r etrieve a held call, pr ess and hold ● the headset button.
Communication 52 T o turn off the microphone so that the other party cannot ● hear you, select Mute . T o con verse with the other part y via a Bluetooth headset, ● select Headset . ● T o make a multipar ty call (confer ence call), make or answer a second call, and then select Merge when connected to the second part y .
Communication 53 T o select an image to be shown to the other part y , press the ● Option key and select Outgoing image . T o open the keypad, pr ess the Option key and select ● Ke ypad . T o con verse with the other part y via a Bluetooth headset, ● press the Option key and select Switch t o headset .
Communication 54 Set auto rejection › Use auto r ejection to reject calls from specified numbers automatically . In the application list, select 1 Phone . Pr ess the Option key and select 2 Call settings → C all rejection . Drag the 3 Aut o reject mode switch to the right.
Communication 55 Enter the PIN2 supplied with y our SIM or USIM card and 4 select OK . Select 5 FDN list and add contacts. Set call diver ting › Call diverting is a network feature tha t sends incoming calls to a specified number . Y ou can set this featur e separately for several c onditions.
Communication 56 Set call waiting › Call waiting is a network f eature that alerts you to an incoming call while you ar e on another call. This feature is available only f or voice calls . In the application list, select 1 Phone . Pr ess the Option key and select 2 Call settings → Additional settings → C all waiting .
Communication 57 Change the follo wing options: 3 Option F unc tion Call rejection Set to reject calls from specified phone numbers automatically . Y ou can add phone numbers to the auto reject list. Set reject messages Add or edit the message that will be sent when you r eject a call.
Communication 58 Option F unc tion Acc essor y settings for call → A ut oma tic answering timer Select the length of time that the device waits bef ore answering calls. Acc essor y settings for call → Outgoing call conditions Set to allow outgoing calls with a Bluetooth headset, even when your device is locked .
Communication 59 Option F unc tion Additional settings → Call waiting Set the device to alert you to incoming calls during a call. Additional settings → Auto r edial Set to automatically r edial a call that was not connected or that was cut off .

Use Internet calling Set whether to use IP call ser vices for all calls or only f or IP calls. Select phone numbers or email addresses from your ● call, message , or contact lists by selecting .
Communication 62 Listen to a v oicemail message › If you have set y our device to diver t missed calls to the voicemail server , callers may leave v oicemail messages when you miss calls . In the application list, select 1 Phone → K eypad , and then tap and hold .
Communication 63 Pr ess the Option key and select 5 A ttach file , and then attach a file. T o send the message, select 6 . If you are offline or outside y our ser vice area, the message will be held in the message thread until y ou are online and inside y our ser vice area.
Communication 64 T o change the email settings, pr ess the Option key and ● select S ettings . T o view an attachment, select ● VIEW . T o save it to y our device, select SA VE . Email Learn to send or view email messages via y our personal or company email ac count.
Communication 65 Select the subjec t field and enter a subject. 3 Select the tex t field and enter y our email text. 4 Select 5 and attach a file. T o send the message, select 6 . If you are offline or outside y our ser vice area, the message will be held in the message thread until y ou are online and inside y our ser vice area.
Communication 66 T o creat e a new message, pr ess the Option key and select ● Compose . T o sav e the email addresses of the recipien ts to the ● phonebook as a group of c ontacts, press the Option key and select S av e as group . Communication 67 Add a c ontac t to y our friend list › In the application list, select 1 T alk → . Enter a friend’ s email address , and then select 2 DONE . Communication 68 Messenger Learn to send and r eceive instan t messages from friends and family with the Google+ messenger instant messaging ser vice . This f eature may be una vailable depending on your region or service provider . In the application list, select 1 Messenger .
