Getting Started 1 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your phone by first configuring your hardware, ac tivating your service, and then setting up your voice mail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use it is necessary to install both the battery and SIM into their corresponding internal compartments.
2 • Make sure that the card’s gold conta cts face into the phone and that the upper-left angled corner of the card is positioned as shown. Note: If the car d is not inserted co rrectly , the phon e does not detect the SIM card. Re-orient the card back into the sl ot if the SIM is not dete cted.
Getting Started 3 Inst alli ng the Batter y 1. Insert the battery into the opening on the back of the phone, making sure the battery contacts align (1). 2. Gently press down to secure the battery (2). 3. Replace the battery cover ont o the back of the phone in the direction shown by the arrow (1).
4 Charging a Batter y Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery . Use the Travel Adapter included with your phone to charge the battery . Use only Samsung-approved batteries and chargers. Note: Searching for servi ce, vibrate mode, browse r use, and other vari ables may reduce the batte ry’s talk and standby ti mes.

Low Ba tter y Indicator When the battery is weak and only a few minutes of talk time remain, the “Battery critically low” warning appears and the device sounds a warning tone at regular intervals.

If you select custom , follow the on-screen instructions. 5. Scroll through the list of time zones and tap the time zone of your choice to highlight it and tap next .

12 Section 2: Understanding Y our Phone This section outlines some key features of your phone and describes the screen and the icons that appear when the phone is in use. It also shows how to navigate through the phone. F eatures of Y our Phone Y our phone is lightweight, easy-to-use, and offers many useful features.

Proximity and Light sensors : the Proximity sensor detects how close an object is to t he surface of the screen (for example, when your face is against the phone during a call or the phone is in your pocket), locks the keys to prevent accidental key presses, and turns off the screen.
14 1. Power/Accessory Interface connector : allows you to connect a travel charger or other optional accessories such as a USB/data cable. 2. V olume keys : allow you to adjust the ringer volume while in standby mode or adjust the voice volume during a call.

Understanding Y our Phone 17 Maps : lets you use Bing Maps, a free introductory location- based service that provi des static, non-moving, non- voice guided, turn-by-turn driving directions. It also has additional user features such as Local Search (l imited) business listings and points of interest (POI).

Call Functions 25 Making a Call from People Y ou can store phone numbers that you use regularly in the phone’s memory . These entries are collecti vely called Pe ople . For further details about using the People feature, see “Dialing or Messaging from People” on page 37.
26 Saving a Recent Call to People 1. From the Home screen, tap . A list of recent calls is displayed. 2. T ouch the call you want to save to People. 3. The call detail page is di splayed. T ap save . 4. T ap new contact to add as a new contact or tap an existing contact to edit manually .

30 Section 4: Entering T ext This section describes how to select the desired text input method when entering characters into y our phone. It also describes the predictive text entry system th at reduces the number of k ey strokes associated with entering text.
Entering T ext 31 Ke ys Y ou can enter characters into your phone using the on-screen portrait or landscape keyboard. In both formats, the keys are associated with alphabetic letters, special characters, or numbers, as shown in the following layouts.
32 Using the k eyboar d This phone offers the convenience of an on-screen keyboard. Use the keyboard to type letters, numbers, punctuation, and other special characters into text ent ry fields or other applications. The following keys perform special functions when en tering text.

36 Section 5: P eople This section allows you to manage your contacts by storing their name, number , email, and other in formation in your phone using the People feature. Impor ting SIM Contacts to Y our Phone Y ou can import all contacts from your SIM card to your phone.

People 39 corporate email account login because they are mai ntained separately and for different groups of peopl e. This device can synchronize with multiple accounts such as Windows Live, Outlook, Google, and Facebook. Wh en you synchronize your phone with t hese accounts, each account creates a separate contact ent ry in the Contacts list.
40 The contact is now “unlinked” and n o longer displays in the merged record screen. Synchronizing Accounts From the Accounts menu you decide if you want applications to synchronize, send, and receive data at any given time, or if you want the applications to syn chronize automatically .

42 Section 6: Multimedia This section explains how to use the multimedia features of your phone, including Music, Music Player, V ideo P layer , Gallery, Camera, and Camcorder . Music and Videos This section explains how to access music, videos, podcasts, and radio on your phone.

On Xbox LIVE, Zune Pass all ows for music streaming only and requires an Xbox LIVE Go ld subscription (10 monthly song credits are still available for download on your PC, Windows Phone, or Zune media player). On your Windows Phone, the streaming feature requires wireless network access.

Multimedia 51 Automatically Sharing Pictures Online If you are signed in to your Windows Live account, when you view your first photo or video (sweep screen to the right) you are asked if you want to Automatically share pi ctures online? War ni ng! : This will use your dat a plan and may incur charges.

Messaging Conv ersations Any messages you have sent or received can be viewed in the Messaging Conversations list. Sent and received text and multimedia messages are grouped into message threads.

When you connect devices, they share a passkey , allowing for fast, secure connections while bypassing the discovery and authentication process.
