Assembling 11 T o install the SIM or USIM card and battery , If the device is on, press and hold [ 1 ] and select Po we r off → OK t o turn it off . Remove the back co ver . 2 Be careful not to damage y our finger nails when you remov e the back cover .
Assembling 12 Replace the back cov er . 5 Charge the ba tter y Before using the devic e for the first time, you must char ge the battery . Y ou can charge the device with a tr avel adapt er or by connecting the device to a PC with a USB cable. Use only Samsung-appro ved chargers and cables .
Assembling 13 Charge with a tr avel adapt er › Open the cov er of the multifunc tion jack . 1 Plug the small end of the trav el adapter into the 2 multifunction jack . Connecting the trav el adapter improperly ma y cause serious damage to the device .
Assembling 14 When the battery is fully charged, first unplug the tra vel 4 adapter from the devic e and then from the power outlet. Do not remov e the batter y before r emoving the travel adapter . D oing this may cause damage to the devic e. T o save ener gy , unplug the trav el adapter when not in use.
Assembling 15 Inser t a memor y card (optional) T o store additional multimedia files , you must inser t a memor y card. Y our device accepts microSD ™ or microSDHC ™ memor y cards with maximum capacities of 32 GB (depending on memor y card manufacturer and type).
Assembling 16 Remove the back co ver . 1 Inser t a memor y card with the gold-coloured contacts 2 facing down. Push the memory card in the memor y card slot until it 3 locks in place. Replace the back cov er . 4 Remov e the memor y card › Before r emoving a memor y card, first unmount it f or safe remov al.
Assembling 17 F ormat the memor y card › F ormatting your memor y card on a PC may cause incompatibilities with y our device. F ormat the memory card only on the device. In Idle mode, select → Settings → SD card and phone storage → Unmoun t SD card → OK → F ormat SD card → F ormat SD card → Erase ev er ything .
Getting star ted 18 Getting star ted T urn your devic e on and off T o turn on your device , press and hold [ ]. If you turn on y our device for the first time , follow the on-scr een instructions to set up your device . T o turn off your device , press and hold [ ] and then select P ower off → OK .

Getting star ted 23 Use the t ouch screen Y our device ’ s touch screen lets you easily select items or per form functions. Learn basic actions to use the touch screen. T o avoid scra tching the touch screen, do not use ● sharp tools. Do not allow the touch screen t o come into contact ● with other electrical devices.
Getting star ted 24 Double -tap: T ap t wice quickly with your finger to zoom in ● or out while viewing photos or web pages . Pinch: P lace two fingers far apart, and then pinch them ● together . Y our device turns off the touch screen when y ou do ● not use the device for a specified period .
Getting star ted 25 › Add it ems to the idle screen Y ou can customise the idle screen b y adding shor tcuts to applications or items in applications , widgets, or folders. T o add items to the idle scr een, Pr ess [ 1 ] → A dd or tap and hold the empt y area on the idle screen.
Getting star ted 26 Use the notifica tions panel › In Idle mode or while using an application, tap the indicator icons ar ea and drag your finger down to open the notifications panel. Y ou can ac tivate or deactivate wir eless connection featur es and access a list of notifications , such as messages, calls , events or processing status .
Getting star ted 27 T o add a new panel, select ● . T o change the order of the panels, tap and hold the ● thumbnail of a panel and drag it to the location y ou want. When you ar e finished, press [ 3 ]. Ac cess applications T o access your devic e’ s applications, In Idle mode, select 1 to access the applica tion list.
Getting star ted 28 Organise applications › Y ou can reorganise the applica tions in the application list by changing their order or g rouping them into categories to suit your pr efer ences and needs. In the application list, press [ 1 ] → Edit .
Getting star ted 29 C ustomise your devic e Get more from y our device by customising it to match y our pref erences. Set the current time and dat e › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → Da te and time . Set the time and date and change other options.
Getting star ted 30 Change y our ringtone › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → Sound → Phone ringt one . Select a r ingtone from the list and select 2 OK .
Getting star ted 31 › Set a screen lock Y ou can lock the touch screen b y ac tivating the screen lock featur e. Y our device will require the unlock code each time you turn on the device or unlock the touch scr een. If you for get your unlock code , bring your device to a ● Samsung Ser vice Centr e to reset it .
Getting star ted 32 Set an unlock password In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → L o cation and security → Set screen lock → Passw ord . Enter a new passw ord (alphanumeric) and select 2 Con tinue . Enter the passw ord again and select 3 OK .
Getting star ted 33 › Activat e the F ind my mobile fea ture When someone inserts a new SIM or USIM card in your device, the F ind my mobile f eature will automatically send the contact number to specified recipients t o help you locate and reco ver your device .
Getting star ted 34 Change the keypad type › Y ou can change the keypad type. T ap and hold the text input field and select Input method → a keypad type (Samsung keypad or Swype). Enter t ext using the Samsung keypad › Select 1 → P or trait k eypad types and selec t a text input method.
Getting star ted 35 Number F unction 4 Clear your input. 5 Star t a new line. 6 Acc ess the keypad settings; Change the keypad type (tap and hold). 7 Inser t a space.
Getting star ted 36 Y ou can also tap the keys to ent er tex t. ● Y ou can tap and hold a key to enter char ac ters on the ● upper half of the key . When you tap and hold a key until the character list appears, y ou can enter special characters and symbols.
Getting star ted 37 C opy and paste t ex t › While you ar e entering text, you can use the copy and paste featur e to use text in other applications. Place the cursor on the te xt you want to cop y . 1 Select 2 . Select 3 or . Drag 4 or to select the text you want.
Getting star ted 38 Uninstall an application › F rom the Android Market home screen, select 1 My apps . Select the item you want to delete . 2 Select 3 Uninstall → OK . Download files fr om the web F iles you download from the w eb can include viruses that will damage your devic e.
Getting star ted 39 Set up a ser ver acc ount › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → A ccounts and sync . Select 2 Add ac count → an account type.
Communication 40 C ommunication Calling Learn to use calling functions, such as making and answering calls, using options av ailable dur ing a call or customising and using call-relat ed featur es. › Make or answ er a call Y ou can use the buttons or the touch scr een when you make, accept, end or r ejec t calls.
Communication 41 Answ er a c all When a call comes in, drag 1 right until it reaches the dot. When the device is ringing , press the V olume key to mute the ringtone . T o end the call, select 2 End call . Reject a c all When a call comes in, drag left until it reaches the dot.
Communication 42 T o dial a second call, select ● Add call and then dial a new number . T o answer a second call , drag ● right when a call waiting tone sounds. The device asks whether to end or hold the first call. Y ou must subscr ibe to the call waiting service to use this featur e.
Communication 43 Use additional f eatures › Y ou can use various other call-relat ed featur es, such as F ixed Dialling Number (FDN) mode or call diverting. Use F ixed Dialling Number (FDN) mode In FDN mode, your device will r estric t outgoing calls, ex cept for the numbers stor ed in the FDN list.
Communication 44 Set call waiting Call waiting is a network f eature t o aler t you of an incoming call while you ar e on a previous call . In Idle mode, open the application list and select Settings → Call settings → Additional settings → Call waiting .
Communication 45 Messaging Learn to cr eate and send text (SMS) or multimedia (MMS) messages, and view or manage messages y ou have sen t or receiv ed. Y ou may incur additional charges f or sending or receiving messages while outside y our home ser vice area.
Communication 46 Add r ecipients of your message. 3 Enter phone numbers or email addr esses manually , ● separating them with a semicolon or a c omma. Select phone numbers or email addresses from the lists ● by selecting Contacts . When you ent er an email address, the device will conv er t the message as a multimedia message.
Communication 47 Listen to v oice mail messages › If you have set missed calls t o be diver ted to the voic e mail ser ver , callers may leave v oice messages when you do not answer incoming calls .
Communication 48 Enter a name or addr ess in the recipient field . 3 Enter a subject and message. 4 T o attach an image file, pr ess [ 5 ] → A ttach → a file. Select 6 to send the message. V iew email messages › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Google Mail .
Communication 49 Add a label to a message F rom the Inbox screen, tap and hold a message . 1 Select 2 Change labels . Select a label to add and selec t 3 OK . F ilter messages F rom the Inbox screen, press [ 1 ] → Go to labels . Select the label of the messages you want to view .
Communication 50 Send an email message › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Email → an email account. Pr ess [ 2 ] → Compose . Select 3 Con tac ts . Y ou can enter an email addr ess manually or select one from the logs or con tact groups by selecting another option.
Communication 51 Pr ess [ 2 ] → Refresh to updat e the message list. Select an email message. 3 F rom the message view , use the following options: T o reply to the message , press [ ● ] → Reply . T o forward the message to other people, pr ess [ ● ] → F or ward .
Communication 52 Pr ess [ 2 ] → A dd friend . Enter an email addr ess of the friend and select 3 Send invita tion . When your friend acc epts the invitation, the friend is added to your friend list. Star t a chat › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 T alk .
Entertainment 53 Ent er tainment Camer a Learn how t o capture and view photos and videos. Y ou can take photos at r esolutions up to 1600 x 1200 pix els (2 megapixels) and videos at r esolutions up to 320 x 240 pixels . T o use this featur e, you must first inser t a memor y card .
Entertainment 54 Number F unction 1 Check the camera status and settings . ● : Resolution ● : Exposure metr e type ● : Number of photos you can take (accor ding to available memor y) ● : Storage location 2 Change the shooting mode. 3 Change the scene mode.
Entertainment 55 After taking photos, select to view the taken photos . T o view more photos , scroll left or r ight. ● T o zoom in or out, tap the screen and select ● or . To zoom in, place two fingers on the scr een and spread them apar t. T o zoom out, mov e your fingers closer together .
Entertainment 56 Captur e a photo in Smile shot mode › Y our camera can rec ognise people’ s faces and help you take photos of their smiling faces . In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Camer a to turn on the camera. Rotate the device anti-clockwise to landscape view .
Entertainment 57 C ustomise camera settings › Before taking a photo , selec t → to access the f ollowing options: Option F unction Timer Select the length of the delay befor e the camera takes a photo . Resolution Change the resolution option. White balance A djust the colour balance accor ding to lighting conditions .
Entertainment 58 Record a video › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Camera to turn on the camera. Rotate the device anti-clockwise to landscape view . 2 Select 3 to switch to the camc order . Aim the lens at the subject and make any necessary 4 adjustments.
Entertainment 59 Pr ess the V olume key to zoom in or out. 5 The zoom function may be unav ailable when recor ding in the highest resolution. Select 6 to start recording . Select 7 to stop r ecording. The video is sav ed automatically . The camcor der may not be able to properly recor d videos to a memory card with a slow transfer speed .
Entertainment 60 Before r ecording a video , selec t → to access the follo wing settings: Setting F unc tion Guidelines Display the guidelines on the preview screen. Review Set the camera to display the rec orded video . Reset Reset menus and recor ding options.
Entertainment 61 V iew a photo › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Galler y . Select a folder . 2 T o change the view mode, select 3 or at the top right of the screen. Select a photo (with no icon) to view . 4 While viewing a photo , use the following options: T o view more photos , scroll left or r ight.
Entertainment 62 Music Learn to list en to your favourite music while on the go with the music player . The music play er suppor ts the follo wing file formats: mp3, m4a, 3gp , mp4, ogg (C odec: mp3, vorbis(ogg), aac, aac+, eaac+, amr-nb/wb , wav , midi) T o use this featur e, you must first inser t a memor y card .
Entertainment 63 Contr ol playback with the following keys: 3 5 6 7 4 3 2 1 8 Number F unction 1 Activate the 5.1 channel surround sound system when a headset is connected . 2 Move to a poin t of the file by dragging the bar . 3 Restar t playback or skip back ward; Scan backward in a file (tap and hold).
Entertainment 64 Y ou can contr ol the music player with a headset . I n ● Idle mode, pr ess and hold the headset button to launch the music player .

Entertainment 67 Select 3 to turn on the F M radio . Scroll to the radio station y ou want. 4 Select 5 to add to the fa vourites list. Y ou can add a name for a radio sta tion or remove a radio station; T ap and hold a radio station on the favourit es list and select Remove or Rename .
Personal inf ormation 68 P ersonal inf ormation C ontac ts Learn to cr eate and manage a list of your personal or business contacts. Y ou can save names , mobile phone numbers, home phone numbers, email addr esses, birthdays and more f or your con tacts.
Personal inf ormation 69 F ind a contact › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select . Scroll up or down on the con tact list. 2 Y ou can also drag your finger along the index on the right side to quickly scroll through the list. Select a contac t’ s name .

Y ou can send your namecar d by attaching it to a message or email or transferring it via the Bluetooth wireless f eature. Crea te a group of con tac ts › By creating gr oups of contacts, you can manage multiple contacts and send messages or email to an entire g roup.

Web 83 Aim the lens at the subject and make any adjustments . 4 Select 5 to start recording . Select 6 to stop r ecording. Select 7 S ave to upload the video that you hav e recor ded. Enter y our user name and passwor d and select 8 Sign in . Enter details of the upload and select 9 Upload .
Web 84 This f eature ma y be unavailable depending on your region or service provider . In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Market . Connectivity 85 C onnec tivit y Bluetooth Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communications technology capable of ex changing information over a distance of about 10 m without requiring a ph ysical connection. Y ou do not need to line up the devices to beam inf ormation with Bluetooth.
Connectivity 86 F ind and pair with other Bluetooth- enabled › devices In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → W ireless and networ ks → Bluet ooth settings → Scan devices . Select a device. 2 Enter a PIN f or the Bluetooth wireless featur e or the 3 other device ’ s Bluetooth PIN, if it has one, and select OK .
Connectivity 87 › Receiv e data using the Bluetooth wireless fea ture In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → W ireless and networ ks → Bluet ooth settings → Discov erable . Y our device is visible to other Bluetooth devic es for 120 seconds.
Connectivity 88 › Activat e the WLAN featur e In Idle mode, open the application list and select Settings → W ireless and networks → W i-F i settings → W i-Fi . An active WLAN running in the background will consume battery power . T o preser ve battery power , activate the WLAN only when needed.
Connectivity 89 Mobile network sharing Learn to set y our device as a wireless modem or wireless access point f or PCs or other devices, and share y our device’ s mobile network connection.
Connectivity 90 Select 3 USB tethering to activate the USB tethering featur e. Y our device shares the mobile network c onnection on your PC. T o stop sharing the network connection, clear the check box next to USB tethering . The sharing method for the network connection may differ depending on the PC’ s operating system.

T ools 97 Google Search Y ou can search f or applications and data in your device and specific data on the web . In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Google Search . If you are launching this application f or the first time, set 2 whether or not to view the search hist or y of your Google account.
T ools 98 Some file formats are not supported depending on ● the soft ware of the devic e. If the file size exc eeds the available memory , an error ● can occur when you open files . Playback quality may vary by content type . ● Some files may not play pr operly depending on how ● they are encoded .
T ools 99 Select a Q uickoffice prog ram. 3 Select 4 SD Card → a document file. Update Quickoffic e › Y ou can download prog ram updates, new Quickoffice products, or special off ers. In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Quickoffic e .
T ools 100 Use the follo wing options: 2 Active applications ● : View the list of all the applications currently running on y our device. Package ● : View the total amoun t of memor y used for applications installed on your devic e. RAM ● : Check and manage the RAM for y our device.

Select a setting categor y and selec t an option. 2 W ireless and networks Change the settings for wir eless net work connections. F light mode › Disable all wireless functions on your device .
Settings 102 T ethering and por table hotspot › USB tethering ● : Activate the USB tethering f eature to share your device ’ s mobile network connection with PCs via USB. When connected to a PC, y our device is used as a wireless modem for a PC.
Settings 103 F ixed Dialing Numbers › Enable FDN ● : Activate or deactivate FDN mode t o restrict calls to numbers in the FDN list. Y ou must enter the PIN2 supplied with your SIM or USIM car d. Change PIN2 ● : Change the PIN2, which is used to prot ec t the primar y PIN.
Settings 104 Sound Change the settings for various sounds on y our device. Silent mode ● : Activate Silent mode t o mute all sounds exc ept media sounds and alar m ringtones.
