Assembling 11 T o install the SIM or USIM card and batt er y , If the device is on, press and hold [ 1 ] and select Po we r off → OK t o turn it off . Remove the back co ver . 2 Be careful not to damage y our fingernails when you remov e the back cov er .
Assembling 12 Inser t the batter y . 4 Replace the back cov er . 5 Charge the ba tter y Before using the devic e for the first time , you must charge the battery . Y ou can charge the device with a trav el adapter or by connecting the device to a PC with a USB cable.
Assembling 13 When your batt er y is low , the device will emit a ● warning tone and display a lo w battery message. The battery icon will also be empty . I f the battery level becomes too low , the device will automatically pow er off . Recharge your battery to continue using your device.
Assembling 14 Plug the large end of the tra vel adapt er into a pow er 3 outlet. Y ou can use the device while it is charging, but it ma y ● take longer to fully charge the batt er y . While the device is charg ing, the t ouch screen ma y ● not function due to an unstable power supply .
Assembling 15 Charge with a USB cable › Before char ging , ensure tha t your PC is turned on. Open the cov er of the multifunction jack . 1 Plug one end (micro-USB) of the USB cable into the 2 multifunction jack . Plug the other end of the USB cable into a USB port on a 3 PC.
Assembling 16 Y our device suppor ts only the F A T file struc ture for ● memor y cards. If you insert a card formatt ed with a differ ent file structure, y our device will ask y ou to ref ormat the memor y card . F requent writing and er asing of data will shor ten the ● lifespan of memory cards.
Assembling 17 Remov e the memor y card › Before r emoving a memor y card, first unmount it f or safe remov al. In Idle mode, select 1 Applications → Settings → S torage → Unmoun t SD card → OK . Remove the back co ver . 2 Remove the memory card.
Getting star ted 18 Getting star ted T urn y our device on and off T o turn on your device , Pr ess and hold [ 1 ]. If you turn on your device f or the first time, f ollow the on- 2 screen instructions to set up your device . T o turn off your device , press and hold [ ] and then select P ow er off → OK .

Getting star ted 23 Use the t ouch screen Y our device’ s touch screen lets you easily select items or per form functions. Learn basic actions to use the touch screen. T o av oid scratching the t ouch screen, do not use ● sharp tools. Do not allow the touch screen t o come int o contact ● with other electrical devices.
Getting star ted 24 Y our device turns off the touch screen when you do ● not use the device for a specified period . T o turn on the screen, pr ess [ ] or the Home key . Y ou can also adjust the back light time. In Idle mode, ● open the application list and select Settings → Display → Screen time- out .
Getting star ted 25 › Add it ems to the idle scr een Y ou can customise the idle screen by adding shortcuts to applications or items in applications , widgets, or f olders. T o add items to the idle scr een, Pr ess [ 1 ] → A dd or tap and hold the empt y area on the idle screen.
Getting star ted 26 Use the shortcuts panel › In Idle mode or while using an application, tap the indicator icons area and dr ag your finger down t o open the shor tcuts panel. Y ou can activate or deactivate wireless connection featur es and access a list of notifica tions, such as messages , calls, ev ents or proc essing status.
Getting star ted 27 Ac cess applications T o access y our device ’ s applications, In Idle mode, select 1 Applications t o access the application list. Scroll left or right to another application screen. 2 Y ou can also selec t a dot at the bottom of the screen to move t o the corresponding main menu scr een directly .
Getting star ted 28 Drag the application icon t o the location you wan t. 3 Y ou can move an application icon to another main menu screen. Y ou can also move most -used applications next to Home . Pr ess [ 4 ] → Save . T o add a folder or panel t o the menu screen, In the application list, press [ 1 ] → Edit .
Getting star ted 29 Use the task manager › Y our device is a multitask ing device. It can run more than one application at the same time . Howev er , multitask ing may cause hang-ups, fr eezing, memor y problems, or additional power c onsumption. T o avoid these pr oblems, end unnecessary programs using the task manager .
Getting star ted 30 Adjust the v olume of the ringtones › Pr ess the V olume key up or down to adjust the ringt one volume . Swit ch to Silent mode › T o mute or unmute y our device , do one of the follo wing: In Idle mode, open the application list and select ● Phone → Ke ypad and tap and hold .
Getting star ted 31 Selec t a wallpaper for the idle scr een › In Idle mode, press [ 1 ] → W allpaper → an option. Select an image. 2 Select 3 S ave or S et w allpaper . Samsung is not responsible f or any use of default images or wallpapers pro vided on your device .
Getting star ted 32 Set an unlock pattern In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → L ocation and security → Set screen lock → P attern . See the on-screen instructions and example patterns and 2 select N ex t . Draw a patt ern by dragging y our finger to connect at least 3 4 dots.
Getting star ted 33 Lock y our SIM or USIM card › Y ou can lock your device by activating the PIN supplied with your SIM or USIM car d. In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → L ocation and security → Set up SIM card lock → Lock SIM card .
Getting star ted 34 Enter y our email address and passwor d for your Samsung 3 account and select Sign in . T o creat e a Samsung account, select Sign up . Select 4 Alert message recipients . Enter the passw ord f or your Samsung acc ount again and 5 select OK .
Getting star ted 35 Continue until y ou have finished the wor d. 2 Release the finger on the last character . 3 When the wor d displays c orrectly , selec t 4 to insert a space. If the corr ect word does not display , selec t an alternative w ord fr om the list that appears.

Getting star ted 37 Enter t ext using the Samsung keypad › Select 1 → P or trait ke ypad types and select a tex t input method. Y ou can selec t one of key input methods (QWERT Y or traditional keypad) or handwriting input methods. Enter text by selecting alphanumeric keys or writing on 2 the screen.
Getting star ted 38 Number F unc tion 6 Star t a new line. 7 Inser t a space; Inser t a full stop (double -tap); Change the input language (tap and hold, and then scroll left or right). F unc tions of this key may vary depending on your service provider .
Getting star ted 39 Download applica tions from Andr oid Market Based on the Android platf or m, your device ’ s functionalit y can be extended by installing additional applications. Android Market pro vides you an easy and quick wa y to shop for games and mobile applications .
Getting star ted 40 Download files fr om the w eb F iles you do wnload from the w eb can include viruses that will damage your devic e. T o lessen your risk , only download files from sour ces y ou trust. Some media files include Digital Rights Management to prot ect copyrights.
Getting star ted 41 Set up a ser ver acc ount › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → A ccounts and sync . Select 2 Add ac coun t → an account type.
Communication 42 C ommunication Calling Learn to use calling functions, such as making and answering calls, using options av ailable during a call or customising and using call-relat ed featur es. Make and answ er a call › Y ou can use the buttons or the touch screen when you make , accept, end or r eject calls.
Communication 43 Answ er a call 1 When a call comes in, drag right. When the device is ringing , press the V olume key to mute the ringtone . T o end the call, select 2 End call . Reject a c all When a call comes in, drag left. T o send a message when you r eject incoming calls, select Reject c all with message .
Communication 44 Use options during a v oice call › Y ou can use the following options while a voice call is in progr ess: T o adjust the voic e volume , press the V olume key up or ● down. T o place a call on hold , select ● . T o retrieve a held call , select .
Communication 45 Use options during a video call › Y ou can use the following options while a video call is in progr ess: T o switch between the fr ont and rear camera lens , selec t ● Swit ch Camer a . T o turn off the microphone so that the other part y cannot ● hear you, select Mute .
Communication 46 Set auto rejection Use auto r ejection to reject calls from certain numbers automatically . T o activate auto r ejection and create auto reject lists, In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → C all → Call rejection .
Communication 47 Set call for warding Call diverting is a network feature t o send incoming calls to another number that you specify . Y ou can set this featur e separately f or several conditions when you ar e not able to answer calls , such as when you ar e already on the phone or when you ar e outside of the ser vice area.
Communication 48 Set call waiting Call waiting is a network f eature t o aler t you of an incoming call while you ar e on a previous call. This featur e is available only for v oice calls. In Idle mode, open the application list and select Settings → Call → Additional settings → Call waiting .
Communication 49 Send a text message › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Messaging . Select 2 . Add r ecipients of your message . 3 Enter phone numbers manually , separating them with a ● semicolon or a comma. Select phone numbers from the lists by selecting ● .
Communication 50 Select 5 T ap to enter message and ent er your message text. T o inser t emoticons , press [ ] → Insert smiley . Select 6 and add an item. Y ou can selec t a file from the file list or creat e a new photo , video , or sound. Select 7 Send to send the message.
Communication 51 Google Mail Y ou can retrieve new email messages from Google Mail ™ to your Inbo x. When you access this application, the Inbo x screen appears . The total number of unread messages displays in the title bar and unr ead messages display in bold .
Communication 52 F rom the message view , use the following options: T o reply t o the message, select ● . T o reply t o the message including all recipients , select ● → Reply all . T o forward the message to other people , select ● → F orward .
Communication 53 Email Learn to send or view email messages via y our personal or company email ac count. Set up an email accoun t › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Email .

Entertainment 57 Ent er tainment Camer a Learn how t o capture and view photos and videos . Y ou can take photos at r esolutions up to 2560 x 1920 pix els (5 megapixels) and videos at r esolutions up to 1280 x 720 pixels . The camera automa tically turns off when you do not ● use it for a specified period.
Entertainment 58 Number F unc tion 1 Change the camera settings. 2 Open the image viewer to view phot os you captured . 3 Use camera shortcuts. ● : Change the flash setting. ● : Switch between the fr ont and rear camera lenses. Y ou can add or remove shortcuts to frequently used options .
Entertainment 59 After taking photos, select the image viewer icon to view the taken photos. T o view more phot os, scr oll left or right. ● T o zoom in or out, plac e two fingers on the screen and ● spread them apart (move your fingers closer together t o zoom out) or double -tap the screen.
Entertainment 60 Captur e a photo in Self shot mode › Y ou can take photos of yourself conv eniently using the fr ont camera lens. In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Camer a to turn on the camera. Select 2 → Self portrait . Make any necessary adjustments.
Entertainment 61 Captur e a panoramic phot o › Y ou can take wide panoramic photos using P anorama shooting mode. This mode is conv enient for phot ographing landscapes. In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Camer a to turn on the camera.
Entertainment 62 Captur e a photo in C ar toon mode › Y ou can take photos with car toon effects. In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Camer a to turn on the camera. Select 2 → Shooting mode → Cartoon . Make any necessary adjustments.
Entertainment 63 Option F unc tion Effects Apply a special effect, such as sepia or black and white tones . Resolution Change the resolution option. White balance Adjust the colour balanc e accor ding to lighting conditions . ISO Adjust the sensitivity of the camera imaging sensor .

Connectivity 99 C onnec tivity Bluetooth Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communications technology capable of ex changing inf ormation over a distance of about 10 m without requiring a ph ysical connection. Y ou do not need to line up the devices to beam information with Bluetooth.
