Assembling 11 Inser t the SIM or USIM card. 3 Place the SIM or USIM card into the devic e with • the gold-coloured contacts facing down. If you do not insert a SIM or USIM card, you can • only use your device ’ s non-network services and some menus.
Assembling 12 Charge the batt er y Before using the device f or the rst time, you must charge the battery. Y ou can charge the device with the pro vided travel adapter or by connecting the device to a PC with a PC data cable. Use only Samsung-approved char gers and cables.
Assembling 13 Y ou can use the device while it is charging , but it • may take longer to fully charge the battery . While the device is charging , the touch screen may • not funct ion d ue t o a n uns table pow er su pply . If this happens, unplug the trav el adapter from the device.
Assembling 14 Inser t a memor y card (optional) T o store additional multimedia les, you must insert a memory card. Y our device accepts microSD ™ or microSDHC ™ me mory c ar ds wit h max imum capac ities of 32 GB (depending on memory card manufacturer and type).
Assembling 15 Remove the memory card › Before remo ving a memory card, rst unmount it for safe removal. In Idle mode, select 1 Applications → Settings → SD card and phone storage → Unmount SD card . Remove the back cov er . 2 Push the memory card gently until it disengages from 3 the device.

Getting started 22 Lock or unlock the touch scr een and key s Y ou can lock the touch screen and keys to pr event any unwanted device oper ations. T o lock, press [ ]. T o unlock, turn on the screen by pressing [ ] or the Home key , and then ick the grey window with your nger .

Getting started 24 › Add or remo ve panels to the idle scr een Y ou can add or remove panels of the idle scr een to organise widgets according t o your prefer ences and needs. In Idle mode, press [ 1 ] → Edit . Y ou can also place your two ngers on the screen and pinch to switch to Edit mode .
Getting started 25 Press [ 4 ] to return to the previous scr een; Press the Home key to return to the idle screen. Y our d evic e h as a built -in m otion sens or th at d ete cts its orientation. If you rotate the device while using some features , the interface will automatically switch to landscape view .
Getting started 26 Use the task manager › Y our device is a multitasking device. It can run more than one application at the same time. How ever , multitasking may cause hang-ups, freezing , memor y problems, or additional power consumption. T o avoid these problems, end unnecessary programs using the task manager .
Getting started 27 Change your ringtone › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → Sound → V oice call ringtone or Video call ringtone .
Getting started 28 Set a screen lock › Y ou can lock the touch screen with an unlock pattern or password to pr event unauthorised people from using the device without your permission. Once you set a screen lock, your device will r equire • an unloc k co de eac h tim e yo u t urn i t on or un lock the touch screen.
Getting started 29 Set an unlock password In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → Location and security → Se t s cree n l ock → Passw ord . Enter a new password (alphanumeric) and select 2 Continue . Enter the password again and select 3 OK .
Getting started 30 Select 3 OK to continue. Enter your email address and passw ord for your 4 Samsung account and select Sign in . T o create a Samsung account, select Sign up . Read the terms and conditions and select 5 Accept . Enter a phone number including a country code 6 (with + ).
Getting started 31 Continue until you ha ve nished the word . 2 Release the nger on the last character . 3 When the word display s correctly , select 4 to insert a space. If the correct word does not displa y , select an alternative wor d from the list that appears.
Getting started 32 Enter text using the Samsung keypad › Select 1 → P ortrait keypad types and select a text input method. Y ou can select one of key input methods (QWERT Y or traditional keypad) or handwriting input methods. Enter text by selecting alphanumeric keys or writing 2 on the screen.
Getting started 33 Number F unction 2 Switch between Number/Symbol mode and ABC mode. 3 Enter text by voice; This icon is available only when you activate the voice input f eature for the Samsung keypad. 4 Clear your input. 5 Start a new line. 6 Access the keypad settings; Change the text input method (tap and hold).
Getting started 34 Install an application › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Market . Select 2 Accept when the terms and conditions appears. Select an item category 3 → an item. Select 4 Install (for free items) or Buy . If you select Install , select OK to download the item immediately .

Getting started 36 Synchronise da ta manually › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → Ac counts and sync . Select an account. 2 Press [ 3 ] → Sync now . Y our device will start synchronising the data you set f or synchronisation.
Communication 37 C ommunication Calling Learn to use calling functions, such as making and answering calls, using options available during a call or customising and using call-related f eatures. Make and answer a call › Y ou can use the buttons or the touch screen when you make, accept, end or r eject calls.
Communication 38 Use the headset › By plugging the supplied headset into the device, y ou can answer and control calls hands-fr ee: T o answer a call, press the headset button.
Communication 39 T o switch between the two calls, select • Swap . T o make a multipart y call (conferenc e call), make or • answer a second call and select Merge when connected to the second party. Communication 41 T o set call forwarding for voice calls , In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → Call settings → V oice call → Call forwarding . Select a condition. 2 Enter a number to which calls will be forwarded and 3 select Enable .
Communication 42 Vie w call logs › Y ou can view logs of your calls ltered b y their types. In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Phone → Logs .
Communication 43 Select 4 T ype to compose and enter your message text. T o insert emoticons, press [ ] → Insert smiley . Select 5 Send to send the message. Send a multimedia message › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Messaging → New message .
Communication 44 Listen to voic e mail messages › If you have set missed calls to be div erted to the voice mail server , callers may leave v oice messages when you do not answer incoming calls.
Communication 45 Enter a subject and message. 4 T o attach an image le, press [ 5 ] → A ttach → a le. Select 6 Send to send the message. Vie w email messages › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Google Mail . Select an email message.

Entertainment 50 Entertainment Camera Learn how to capture and view phot os and videos. Y ou can take phot os a t r esol uti ons u p to 25 60 x 192 0 pix els (5 megapixels) and videos at resolutions up t o 720 x 480 pixels. Capture a photo › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Camera .

Entertainment 61 Avoid locking the device ’ s screen while playing a • DivX Video-On-Demand. Each time you lock the screen while playing a DivX Video- On-Demand, one of your available ren tal counts will be decremented. Some le formats are not supported depending • on the software of the device.
