Assembling 11 T o install the SIM or USIM card and batt er y , If the device is on, press and hold the P ower key and select 1 P ow er off → OK t o turn it off . Remove the back co ver . 2 Be careful not to damage y our fingernails when you remov e the back cover .
Assembling 12 Inser t the battery . 4 Replace the back cov er . 5 Charge the ba tter y Before using the devic e for the first time , you must charge the battery . Y ou can charge the device with a trav el adapter or by connecting the device to a PC with a USB cable.
Assembling 13 When your batt er y is low , the device will emit a ● warning tone and display a lo w batter y message . The battery icon will also be empty . I f the battery level becomes too low , the device will automatically pow er off . Recharge your battery to continue using your device.
Assembling 14 Plug the large end of the tra vel adapter in to an electrical 2 socket. Y ou can use the device while it is charging, but it ma y ● take longer to fully charge the batt er y . If the device receiv es an unstable power supply while ● charging , the touch screen may not function.
Assembling 15 Plug the other end of the USB cable into a USB port on a 2 PC. Depending on the type of USB cable you are using , it may take some time bef ore charging beg ins. W he n the ba tt ery is ful ly ch ar ge d , fir st unp lu g t he USB 3 cable from the device and then unplug it fr om the PC.
Assembling 16 Remove the back co ver and batt er y . 1 Inser t a memor y card with the gold-coloured contacts 2 facing down wards. Push the memory card into the memory card slot until it 3 locks in place. Replace the battery and back cover . 4 Remov e the memor y card › Before r emoving a memor y card, first unmount it f or safe remov al.
Assembling 17 F ormat the memor y card › F ormatting your memor y card on a PC may cause incompatibilities with y our device. F ormat the memor y card only on the device. In Idle mode, select Applications → Settings → Stor age → Unmount SD card → OK → F ormat SD card → F ormat SD card → Erase ev er ything .
18 Getting star ted Getting star ted T urn your de vice on and off T o turn on your device , press and hold the P ower key . If you are turning on your devic e for the first time , follow the on- screen instructions to set up your device . T o turn off your device , press and hold the P ower key , and then select Po wer off → OK .

25 Getting star ted Lock or unlock the t ouch screen and k eys Y ou can lock the touch screen and keys to pr event an y unwan ted device operations . T o lock, press the P ower key . T o unlock, turn on the screen by pressing the P ower key or the Home key , tap anywhere on the screen, and then drag outside of the large circle .
26 Getting star ted Mov e items on the idle screen › T ap and hold an item. 1 Drag the item to a new loca tion. 2 Remov e items from the idle scr een › T ap and hold an item. 1 The rubbish bin appears at the bottom of the idle scr een. Drag the item to the rubbish bin.
27 Getting star ted › Add or r emove panels to the idle scr een Y ou can add or remove idle scr een panels to organise widgets. In Idle mode, press [ 1 ] → Edit . Y ou can also place two fingers on the screen and pinch them together to switch t o Edit mode.
28 Getting star ted Select an application. 3 When you use applications pr ovided by Google, you ● must have a Google acc ount. Y ou can add an application shor tcut by tapping and ● holding the appropriate ic on from the application list. Y ou can move shor tcut icons t o any location on the idle screen.
29 Getting star ted T o add a folder or panel t o the idle screen, In the application list, press [ 1 ] → Edit . T ap and hold an application icon. 2 Drag the application icon t o 3 Add F older or Add P age at the bottom of the screen. Drag 4 Add F older or Add P age to the idle screen.
30 Getting star ted Use the task manager › Y our device is a multitask ing device , so can run more than one application at the same time . Howev er , heavy multitasking may cause hang-ups, freezing , memor y problems , or additional power consumption.
31 Getting star ted Swit ch to Silent mode › T o mute or unmute y our device, do one of the f ollowing: In Idle mode, open the application list and select ● Phone → Ke ypad , and then tap and hold . Pr ess and hold the P ower key and select ● Silent mode .
32 Getting star ted Adjust the brigh tness of the display › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → Displa y → Brigh tness . Clear the tick box next to 2 Aut omatic brightness . Drag the slider 3 t o adjust the brightness.
33 Getting star ted Set an unlock PIN In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → L ocation and security → Set up screen lock → PIN .
34 Getting star ted › Activat e the F ind my mobile f eature When someone inserts a new SIM or USIM card into your device, the F ind my mobile f eature will automa tically send the contact number to specified recipients t o help you locate and reco ver your devic e.
35 Getting star ted Enter t ext Y ou can enter text by selecting charac ters on the virtual keypad or by inputting handwriting on the screen. Y ou cannot enter text in some languages. T o enter text, you must change the writing language to one of the suppor ted languages .
36 Getting star ted When the device r ecognises the correct wor d, select 4 to insert a space. If the the device does not recognise the wor d, select an alternative wor d from the list that appears. Repeat steps 1-4 to complet e your text. 5 Y ou can also tap the keys to enter text.
37 Getting star ted Number F unc tion 7 Enter text by v oice. This f eature may be una vailable depending on the selected input language. 8 Inser t a space. Enter t ext with the Samsung keypad › Select 1 → P or trait k eypad typ es and select a text input method (QWERT Y or a traditional keypad).

39 Getting star ted Download applica tions from Andr oid Market Y our device’ s functionalit y can be extended by installing additional applications for the A ndroid platf orm. Android Market pro vides a quick and easy way to shop f or games and mobile applications.
40 Getting star ted Download files fr om the web F iles you download fr om the web can include viruses that will damage your devic e. T o reduce y our r isk, only download files from sour ces you trust. Some media files include Digital Rights Management to prot ect copyrights.
41 Getting star ted Set up a ser ver ac count › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → A ccounts and sync . Select 2 Add ac count → an account type.
Using special features 42 U sing special fea tures Y our device can be used as a power ful notepad , thanks to multiple featur es that help you input text, capture drawings , and use motion contr ols or voice commands . Learn basic S P en ac tions Y our device is supplied with a specialised S Pen.

Using special features 45 Double -tap While using V oice talk , begin v oice recog nition by tapping the device twice quickly . T ilt While holding the device with two hands , tap and hold two points on the screen, and then tilt the devic e back and forth to zoom in or out.
Using special features 46 P alm sweep Sweep y our palm across the screen to capture a scr eenshot. The image will be sav ed in My files → ScreenC apture . Y ou cannot capture a screenshot while using a camera or playing a video . P alm touch T ouch the screen with y our palm to pause media playback or mute the radio .
Using special features 47 T ap and t wist Place y our finger on the screen and then twist it to rotat e an image. Pa n T ap and hold an item on the screen, and then pan the device to the left or right to move the it em to another page on the idle screen or application list.
Using special features 48 T urn over Place the device fac e down to mute ringtones . Use Handwriting mode F rom the Samsung keypad, y ou can switch to Handwriting mode to enter t ext more easily .
Using special features 49 Write y our tex t on the handwriting panel. When the device recog nises the correct word , select to enter it in the t ext input field. Other wise, select a wor d from the alternativ e word list. Y ou can use a variet y of gestures in Handwriting mode to edit text.

Using special features 56 Use the quick memo pad F rom an y screen, you can cr eate a quick memo of text and sketches. While pressing the S P en button, double -tap the screen to 1 open the quick memo pad. Enter text or draw a sket ch. 2 Erase your te xt or sketch; Change the eraser thickness or clear your input (double -tap).
Using special features 57 Use S Planner Y our device provides you with a po wer ful planner to help y ou organise your schedules and tasks mor e conveniently and effectively . Y ou can create and view even ts, add items , and change view modes. T o launch S Planner , in Idle mode, open the application list, and then select S Planner .
Using special features 58 › Crea te an ev ent or task The tasks and notes y ou create cannot be synchr onised with Google Calendar ™ . T o creat e an event, In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 S Planner → . If aler t messages about the calendar sync appear , select 2 OK .
Using special features 59 Select 2 Quick add , and then enter details. When you ar e finished, select 3 S ave . The device will automa tically classify the details in the text and enter them int o the corresponding fields. Add a memo › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 S Planner .

Communication 61 C ommunication Calling Learn to use calling functions, such as making and answering calls, using options av ailable during a call or customising and using call-relat ed featur es. Communication 62 Answ er a call 1 When a call comes in, drag outside of the large circle . T o mute the ringtone , press the V olume key while the device is ringing . T o end the call, select 2 End call . Reject a c all When a call comes in, drag outside of the large circle .
Communication 63 Use options during a v oice call › Y ou can use the following options during a voice call: T o adjust the voice v olume, press the V olume key up or ● down. T o place a call on hold , select ● . T o retrieve a held call , selec t .
Communication 64 Use options during a video call › Y ou can use the following options while a video call is in progr ess: T o switch between the fron t and rear camera lens , select ● Swit ch Camera . T o turn off the mouthpiece so that the other part y cannot ● hear you, select Mute .
Communication 65 Use additional f eatures › Y ou can use other call-related fea tures, such as aut o rejection, F ixed Dialling Number (FDN) mode , or call diver ting or barring. Set auto rejection Use auto r ejection to reject calls from cer tain numbers automatically .
Communication 66 Enter the PIN2 supplied with y our SIM or USIM card and 2 select OK . Select 3 FDN list and add contacts to be used in FDN mode. Set call for war ding Call diverting is a network feature t o send incoming calls to another number that you specify .
Communication 67 Set call waiting Call waiting is a network f eature to alert you of an incoming call while you ar e on a previous call. This featur e is available only for v oice calls. In Idle mode, open the application list and select Settings → Call → Additional settings → Call waiting .
Communication 68 Send a text message › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Messaging . Select 2 . Add r ecipients: 3 Enter phone numbers manually and separat e them with ● a semicolon or a comma. Select phone numbers from your call and contact lists ● by selecting .
Communication 69 Select 5 T ap to enter message and ent er your message text. T o inser t emoticons , press [ ] → Insert smiley . Select 6 and add an item. Y ou can selec t a file, sketch memo , or event fr om the file list or creat e a new photo , video , sound, or sketch memo .
Communication 70 Google Mail Y ou can retrieve new email messages from the Google Mail ™ webmail service to your Inbox. When you ac cess this application, the Inbox screen appears . The total number of unread messages appears in the title bar and unr ead messages appear in bold type.

Y ou can take photos at r esolutions up to 3264 x 2448 pixels (8 megapixels) and videos at r esolutions up to 1920 x 1080 pixels . The camera automa tically turns off when you do not ● use it for a specified period.

Entertainment 94 T rim a segment of a video › Launch the video editor and add media files. 1 Select 2 . Drag an image or video to the r ed line. 3 Move the start bracket to the point where y ou want the 4 file to begin. Move the end bracket t o the point where y ou want the file 5 to end.

102 Personal inf or mation P ersonal inf ormation C ontacts Learn to cr eate and manage a list of y our personal or business contacts. Y ou can save names , mobile phone numbers, home phone numbers, email addr esses, birthdays and more for your con tacts.

Scroll up or down on the con tact list. 2 Y ou can also drag your finger along the index on the right side to quickly scroll through the list.

105 Personal inf or mation Crea te a gr oup of contacts › By creating gr oups of contacts, you can manage multiple contacts and send a message or email to an entire g roup . Star t by cr eating a gr oup. In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Con tacts .
