Assembling 11 T o install the SIM or USIM card and batt er y , If the device is on, press and hold the P ower key and select 1 P ower off → OK t o turn it off . Remove the back co ver . 2 Be careful not to damage y our fingernails when you remov e the back cov er .
Assembling 12 Inser t the batter y . 4 Replace the back cov er . 5 Charge the ba tter y Before using the devic e for the first time , you must charge the battery . Y ou can charge the device with a trav el adapter or by connecting the device to a PC with a USB cable.
Assembling 13 When your batt er y is low , the device will emit a ● warning tone and display a lo w batter y message. The battery icon will also be empty . If the batter y level becomes too low , the device will automatically pow er off . Recharge your ba tter y to continue using y our device.
Assembling 14 Plug the large end of the tra vel adapter int o a power 2 outlet. Y ou can use the device while it is charging, but it ma y ● take longer to fully charge the batt er y . While the device is charg ing, the touch scr een may ● not function due to an unstable power supply .
Assembling 15 Charge with a USB cable › Before char ging, ensur e that your PC is turned on. Plug one end (micro-USB) of the USB cable into the 1 multifunction jack . Plug the other end of the USB cable into a USB port on a 2 PC. Depending on the type of USB cable you are using , it may take some time bef ore charging beg ins.
Assembling 16 Open the cov er of the memor y card slot on the side of the 1 device. Inser t a memor y card with the gold-coloured contacts 2 facing up . Push the memory card in the memor y card slot until it 3 locks in place. Close the cov er of the memor y card slot.
Assembling 17 F ormat the memory card › F ormatting your memory card on a PC may cause incompatibilities with y our device. F ormat the memory card only on the device. In Idle mode, select → Settings → S torage → Unmoun t SD card → OK → F ormat SD car d → F ormat SD car d → Erase ev erything .
Getting star ted 18 Getting star ted T urn y our device on and off T o turn on your device , press and hold the P ow er key . If you turn on your device f or the first time, f ollow the on-screen instructions to set up your device . T o turn off your device , press and hold the P ow er key and then select Po wer off → OK .
Getting star ted 19 Get to know your devic e › Device la yout 1. Do not touch or cover the ant enna area with your hands or other objects while using the GPS func tions.

Getting star ted 25 Get to know the idle screen When the device is in Idle mode , you will see the idle screen. F rom the idle screen, y ou can view indicator icons , widgets, shor tcuts to applications , and other items. The idle screen has multiple panels .
Getting star ted 26 Remov e items from the idle scr een › T ap and hold an item to r emove. 1 The trash bin appears at the bott om of the idle screen.
Getting star ted 27 › Add or r emov e panels to the idle screen Y ou can add or remove panels of the idle scr een to organise widgets accor ding to your pref erences and needs . In Idle mode, press [ 1 ] → Edit . Y ou can also place your two fingers on the screen and pinch to switch to E dit mode.
Getting star ted 28 Select an application. 3 When you use applications pr ovided by Google , you ● must have a Google acc ount. If you do not hav e a Google account, sig n up for a Google account. Y ou can add a shor tcut to an application by tapping ● and holding the application icon fr om the application list.
Getting star ted 29 Ac cess r ecent applications › Pr ess and hold the Home key to view the applications you 1 have ac cessed recen tly . Select an application to access. 2 Use the task manager › Y our device is a multitask ing device. It can run more than one application at the same time .
Getting star ted 30 Adjust the v olume of the ringtones › Pr ess the V olume key up or down to adjust the ringt one volume . Swit ch to Silent mode › T o mute or unmute y our device, do one of the f ollowing: In Idle mode, open the application list and select ● → Ke ypad and tap and hold .
Getting star ted 31 Selec t a wallpaper for the idle scr een › In Idle mode, press [ 1 ] → W allpaper → an option. Select an image. 2 Select 3 S ave or S et wallpaper . Samsung is not responsible f or any use of default images or wallpapers pro vided on your device.
Getting star ted 32 Set an unlock pattern In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → L ocation and security → Set up screen lock → Pa ttern . See the on-screen instructions and example patterns and 2 select N ex t . Draw a patt ern by dragging your finger t o connect at least 3 4 dots and select Continue .
Getting star ted 33 Lock y our SIM or USIM card › Y ou can lock your device by activating the PIN supplied with your SIM or USIM car d. In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → L ocation and security → Set up SIM card lock → Lock SIM card .
Getting star ted 34 Enter y our email address and passwor d for your Samsung 3 account and select Sign in . T o creat e a Samsung account, select Sign up . Select 4 Alert message recipients . Enter the passw ord for y our Samsung account again and 5 select OK .
Getting star ted 35 Y ou can also use the following keys: 1 3 6 7 2 5 4 8 Number F unction 1 Change case. 2 Switch between S ymbol/Number mode and ABC mode. 3 Acc ess the keypad settings; Change the keypad type (tap and hold). 4 Enter text by v oice; This ic on is available only when you activate the v oice input featur e for the Samsung keypad.
Getting star ted 36 Enter t ext using the Sw ype keypad › Select the first charac ter of a wor d and drag your finger 1 to the second character without r eleasing the finger from the screen. Continue until y ou have finished the w ord. 2 Release the finger on the last character .
Getting star ted 37 Y ou can also use the following keys: 1 6 7 2 5 8 3 4 Number F unction 1 Change case. 2 Enter the r ecommended word or add a new wor d to the dictionar y ; Access the keypad settings (tap and hold). 3 Switch between S ymbol/Number mode and ABC/Number mode.

Getting star ted 39 Download applica tions from Andr oid Market Based on the Android platf orm, your device ’ s func tionality can be extended by installing additional applications. Android Market pro vides you an easy and quick way to shop for games and mobile applications .
Getting star ted 40 Download files fr om the web F iles you download fr om the web can include viruses that will damage your devic e. T o lessen your risk, only download files from sour ces you trust. Some media files include Digital Rights Management to prot ec t copyrights .
Getting star ted 41 Set up a ser ver acc ount › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → A cc ounts and sync . Select 2 Add ac count → an account type.
Communication 42 C ommunication Calling Learn to use calling functions, such as making and answering calls, using options av ailable during a call or customising and using call-relat ed features . › Make or answ er a call Y ou can use the buttons or the touch screen when you make , accept, end or r eject calls.
Communication 43 Answ er a call When a call comes in, drag 1 in any dir ec tion until it reaches the bor der of the circle. When the device is ringing , press the V olume key to mute the ringtone . T o end the call, select 2 End call . Reject a c all When a call comes in, drag in any direction until it reaches the border of the cir cle.
Communication 44 Use options during a call › Y ou can use the following options while a call is in prog ress: T o adjust the voic e volume, pr ess the V olume key up or ● down. T o place a call on hold , selec t ● . T o retrieve a held call, select .
Communication 45 V iew and dial missed calls › Y our device will display calls you hav e missed on the display . T o dial the number of a missed call, open the notifications panel and select the missed call.
Communication 46 Use F ix ed Dialling Number (FDN) mode In FDN mode, your device will r estrict outgoing calls, exc ept for the numbers stor ed in the FDN list. Communication 47 Select a call bar ring option. 2 Enter a call barring passwor d and selec t 3 OK . Y our setting will be sent to the network . Set call waiting Call waiting is a network f eature to alert you of an incoming call while you ar e on a previous call.
Communication 48 Messaging Learn to cr eate and send text (SMS) or multimedia (MMS) messages, and view or manage messages y ou have sent or receiv ed. Y ou may incur additional charges for sending or receiving messages while outside y our home ser vice area.
Communication 49 Add r ecipients of your message. 3 Enter phone numbers or email addr esses manually , ● separating them with a semicolon or a c omma. Select phone numbers or email addresses from the lists ● by selecting . When you ent er an email address, the devic e will conv er t the message as a multimedia message.

Entertainment 57 Ent er tainment Camer a Learn how t o capture and view photos and videos . Y ou can take photos at r esolutions up to 2048 x 1536 pixels (3.2 megapixels) and videos at r esolutions up to 640 x 480 pixels . The camera int er face appears only in the landscape ● orientation.

Select 7 to stop r ecording . The video is sav ed automatically . The camcor der may not be able to properly r ecord videos to a memory card with a slow transfer speed .

Connectivity 96 C onnec tivity Bluetooth Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communications technology capable of ex changing information o ver a distance of about 10 m without requiring a ph ysical connection. Y ou do not need to line up the devices to beam information with Bluetooth.
