Getting star ted 9 Do not subject the lens to impac ts. Doing so may cause the lens t o malfunction. • Do not cov er the antenna ar ea with your hands or other objects, ex cept when you are taking photos or videos. T his may cause connectivity problems or drain the battery .

Getting star ted 11 Installing the SIM or USIM card and batt er y Inser t the SIM or USIM card provided b y the mobile telephone ser vice provider , and the included battery . • Only microSIM car ds work with the device . • Some L TE services may not be available depending on the service provider .
Getting star ted 12 2 Inser t the SIM or USIM card with the gold- colour ed contac ts facing down wards. • Do not inser t a memor y card into the SIM car d slot. I f a memor y card happens t o be lodged in the SIM card slot, take the devic e to a Samsung Ser vice Centr e to remov e the memor y card.

Getting star ted 14 3 Pull out the SIM or USIM car d. Char ging the ba tter y Use the charger t o charge the battery before using it f or the first time. A computer can be also used to charge the devic e by connecting them via the USB cable. Use only Samsung-appro ved chargers , batteries, and cables.
Getting star ted 15 1 Connect the USB cable to the USB pow er adaptor . 2 Plug the end of the USB cable into the multipurpose jack. Connecting the charger improperly ma y cause serious damage to the device . Any damage caused by misuse is not co ver ed by the warranty .
Getting star ted 16 4 After fully charging , disconnect the device from the charger . First unplug the char ger from the device , and then unplug it from the electr ic socket. Do not remov e the batter y before r emoving the charger . This may damage the device .
Getting star ted 17 Inser ting a memor y card Y our device acc epts memor y cards with maximum capacities of 64 GB. Depending on the memor y card manufacturer and type, some memory cards may not be compatible with y our device . • Some memor y cards may not be fully compa tible with the device .
Getting star ted 18 Removing the memor y card Befor e removing the memory card, first unmount it f or safe remo val. On the Home scr een, tap Apps → Settings → Stor age → Unmount SD card . 1 Open the cov er of the memor y card slot. 2 Push the memory card until it disengages from the devic e, and then pull it out.
Getting star ted 19 A ttaching a hand strap 1 Remove the back c over . 2 Slide a hand strap through the slot and hook it o ver the small projection. 3 Replace the back cov er . T urning the devic e on and off When turning on the device f or the first time, f ollow the on-screen instructions to set up your device .
Getting star ted 20 Holding the devic e Do not cov er the antenna ar ea with your hands or other objects. This ma y cause connec tivity problems or drain the ba tter y . L ock ing and unlock ing the devic e Pr essing the Po wer button turns off the scr een and puts the device into lock mode .
21 Basics U sing the touch scr een • Do not allow the touch scr een to come int o contact with other electr ical devices . Electrostatic discharges can cause the touch scr een to malfunc tion. • T o av oid damaging the touch scr een, do not tap it with anything sharp or apply ex cessive pr essure to it with your fingertips.
Basics 22 T apping and holding T ap and hold an item for mor e than 2 seconds to access av ailable options. Dragging T o move an ic on or thumbnail, tap and hold it and drag it to the target position. Double -tapping Double -tap on a webpage or image to zoom in a part.
Basics 23 F licking Flick left or right on the Home screen or the A pps screen to see another panel . Flick up or down to scr oll through a webpage or a list, such as contacts. Spreading and pinching Spread two fingers apart on a webpage, map , or image to zoom in a part.
Basics 24 Indicator ic ons The icons displa yed on the status bar pr ovide information about the status of the device . The icons listed in the table belo w are most common. The status bar ma y not appear at the top of the scr een in some apps. T o display the status bar , drag down from the top of the scr een.

Basics 27 Using the quick setting panel A number of quick setting buttons are a vailable on the notifications panel. T o view or access more quick setting buttons , open the quick setting panel. When you open the quick setting panel, y ou can activate or deactivate various fea tures or configur e settings.

Basics 29 Home and Apps scr eens Home screen The Home screen is the starting point to access all of the devic e ’ s features . I t displays widgets , shor tcuts to apps , and more. W idgets are small apps that launch specific app functions to provide inf ormation and conv enient access on y our Home screen.
Basics 30 Home screen options T ap and hold an empty area, or pinch your fingers together on the Home scr een to access the options available on the Home scr een.
Basics 31 Using My Magazine T ap or scroll right on the Home scr een to open My Magazine . My Magazine displays liv e social net work updates and new s that you are inter ested in. Acc ess additional options. T o select the content to be displa yed , tap → Settings , and then select the categories that inter est you.
Basics 32 Apps scr een The Apps scr een displays ic ons for all apps , including any new apps installed. On the Home screen, tap Apps to open the Apps scr een. T o view other panels, scr oll left or right, or select a screen indicator at the bott om of the screen.
Basics 33 Opening apps On the Home screen or the Apps scr een, selec t an app icon to open it. T o open the list of recen tly-used apps, tap and select an app icon to open. Closing an app T ap → , and then tap End next to an app to close it. T o close all running apps, tap End all .
Basics 34 Pla y Stor e Use this app to pur chase and download apps and games that are able to run on the device . T ap Play St ore on the Apps screen. Basics 39 T o add an app on the Home screen, tap and select an app. T o remov e an app from the Home screen, tap → Remov e , select an app with , and then tap OK . T o change network connectivit y settings and more , tap → Settings . T o deactivate the ultra pow er saving featur e, tap → Disable ultra pow er saving mode .
40 P ersonalising S witching to easy mode Easy mode provides an easier user e xperience by using a simpler lay out and bigger icons on the Home screen. Y ou can access the most popular apps and frequently -used settings, and add shor tcuts to y our favourite contacts.
P ersonalising 41 Moving and remo ving an item T ap and hold an item on the Home screen, and then drag it t o a new location. T o move the it em to another panel, drag it to the side of the scr een. Y ou can also move frequen tly-used apps to the shortcuts area at the bottom of the Home screen.
P ersonalising 42 Managing the Apps scr een Changing view mode On the Apps screen, tap → V iew as and select a sor ting method. Hiding apps Hide apps that you do not want t o see on the Apps screen. On the Apps screen, tap → Hide apps , select apps, and then tap Done .
P ersonalising 43 Changing the scr een lock method Y ou can change the way that you lock the scr een to prevent others ac cessing your personal information. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Lock scr een → Screen lock , and then select a screen lock method.
P ersonalising 44 Setting wallpaper Set an image or photo stored on the devic e as wallpaper for the Home screen or the locked screen. 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → W allpaper . Alternativ ely , on the Home screen, tap and hold an empty area, and then tap W allpapers .
P ersonalising 45 Setting up acc ounts A dding acc ounts Some apps used on your device r equire a r egister ed account . Creat e accounts t o hav e the best experience with your devic e. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Ac counts → Add ac count and select an account ser vice .
P ersonalising 46 1 On your device , tap Smar t Swit ch Mobile . 2 On your device , selec t an option depending on the previous device type and f ollow the on-screen instructions. If the previous device is an Andr oid device, ensur e that the Smar t Switch Mobile app is installed on the device .
47 Net w ork c onnec tivit y C onnec ting to a mobile network Connect the device to a mobile network to use the Internet when a W i-Fi network is not available . On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Data usage , and then tick Mobile data . Alternativ ely , open the quick setting panel and tap Mobile data to activate it.
Network connectivit y 48 Adding Wi - Fi networks If the desired network does not appear in the networks list, tap Add W i-F i net work at the bottom of the networks list. Enter the network name in Network SSID , select the securit y type and enter the passwor d if it is not an open network, and then tap Connect .
Network connectivit y 49 U sing Smar t network swit ch Use this f eature t o maintain a stable network connection when you bro wse webpages , download cont ent, and more. Bef ore using this featur e, ensur e that the mobile data connection and Wi-F i featur es are activated .
Network connectivit y 50 Using the mobile hotspot Use your devic e as a mobile hotspot to share your device ’ s mobile data connec tion with other devices. Befor e using this featur e • Ensure that the W i-Fi f eature is deactivated. • Ensure that the devic e ’ s mobile data connection is ac tivated .
Network connectivit y 51 Using Bluet ooth tethering Share the device ’ s mobile data connec tion with connected computers and other devic es via Bluetooth. Befor e using this featur e • Ensure that y our device is paired with the other device via Bluetooth.
52 Motions & usabilit y f eatur es C ontrol motions Exc essive shaking or impac t to the device ma y result in unintended inputs. C ontrol motions properly . Direct call On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Motions and gestures → Direct call , and then drag the Direct call switch to the right.
Motions & usability features 53 Smar t aler t On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Motions and gestures → Smar t aler t , and then drag the Smar t aler t switch to the right. When you pick up the devic e after it has been idle for some time or when the scr een has turned off , it vibrates if you ha ve missed calls or new messages.
Motions & usability features 54 T urning device ov er T urn the device ov er to mute incoming calls or alarms, or to pause media pla yback . Smar t pause Playback pauses aut omatically when you look a way fr om the screen. It resumes when you look at the screen again.
Motions & usability features 55 P alm swipe to capture On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Motions and gestures → P alm swipe to capture , and then drag the P alm swipe to capture switch to the right. Place the side of y our hand on the screen and sw eep it across the scr een from the right to the left or vice versa to captur e a screenshot.
56 Phone Mak ing calls T ap Phone on the Apps screen. T ap Keypad , enter a phone number , and then tap to make a voic e call, or tap to make a video call. Y ou can also make calls to phone numbers listed in Logs , F av ourites , and Con tacts . Acc ess additional options.
Phone 57 Mak ing calls from call logs or c ontac t lists T ap Logs or Con tacts , and then drag a contact or a phone number to the right to make a call . T o deactivate the call by dragg ing an icon to the right f eature, tap → Settings → Con tacts , and then deselect Swipe t o call or send msg .
Phone 58 Number prediction T ap Keypad . When entering numbers on the keypad , automatic pr edictions appear . Selec t one of these to make a call. Speed dial numbers T ap Keypad .
Phone 59 Receiving calls Answ ering a call When a call comes in, drag outside the large cir cle. If a call notification pop -up window appears while y ou are using an app , tap Answ er in the pop-up window . If the call waiting ser vice is activated, another call can be answ ered .
Phone 60 During a call During a voic e call The f ollowing actions are available: • : Increase the volume . • Add call : Dial a second call. • Keypad : Open the keypad. • End call : End the current call . • Speaker : Activate or deactivate the speakerphone .
Phone 61 During a video call The f ollowing actions are available: • → Hide me : Hide your image from the other part y . • → Outgoing image : Selec t an image to sho w it to the other par ty . • → Captur e image : Capture the other party ’ s image.
62 C on tac ts A dding contacts Moving con tac ts from other devices Y ou can move contacts from other devices t o your device. Ref er to Moving contacts from other devices to y our device for details. Crea ting contacts manually 1 On the Apps screen, tap Con tacts → Con tacts .
Contacts 63 Managing con tac ts Editing a c ontact 1 On the Apps screen, tap Con tacts → Con tacts . 2 Selec t a contact to edit and tap . 3 Edit the contact information or tap Add another field to add more c ontac t information. 4 T ap S ave . Deleting a contact Selec t a contact to delete , and then tap → Delete .
Contacts 64 Deleting a group T ap → Delete gr oup , select user-added groups , and then tap Done . Sending a message or email to group ’ s members Selec t a gr oup , tap → Send message or email → Message or Email , select members, tap Done , enter a message , and then tap the send button.
Contacts 65 Searching f or con tac ts On the Apps screen, tap Con tacts → Con tacts . Use one of the f ollowing search methods: • Scroll up or down the con tacts list. • Drag a finger along the index at the right side of the c ontacts list to scroll through it quickly .
66 Messages & email Messages Sending messages Send text messages (SMS) or multimedia messages (MMS). Y ou may incur additional charges for sending or r eceiving messages while you are outside your home service area. 1 T ap Messages on the Apps screen.
Messages & email 67 While composing a message , tap to use one of the following options: • Quick responses : Selec t a message templat e and enter a message . • Inser t smiley : Enter emoticons . • Add subject : Enter a subject. • Add slide : Add message slides .
Messages & email 68 V iewing incoming messages Incoming messages are gr ouped into message threads by con tact. Selec t a contact to view the person ’ s messages. Y ou may incur additional charges for sending or r eceiving messages while you are outside your home service area.
Messages & email 69 Managing messages While viewing the list of messages, tap and use the following options: • Selec t : Selec t messages to delete or t o identify them as spam. • Delete : Delete all or selected messages. • Draft messages : View messages sa ved f or later deliver y .
Messages & email 70 Sending scheduled messages While composing a message , tap → Schedule email . Tick Schedule email , set a time and date , and then tap Done . • If the device is turned off at the scheduled time, is not connected to the network, or the network is unstable, the message will not be sent.
Messages & email 71 Adding c ontac ts to the priority list Set contacts that you communicat e with frequently as priority contacts. T ap → Priority senders → T ap to add priority senders → Enter email or Con tacts , enter email addresses or select contacts to add, and then tap OK or Done .

73 C amera Launching Camer a About launching camer a Use this app to take phot os or videos. T ap Camer a on the Apps screen. Use Galler y to view photos and videos taken with the devic e ’ s camera. Refer to Viewing conten t on the device f or details.
Camera 74 Holding the camera c orrec tly Make sure not to expose the lens t o direct sunlight. This ma y discolour the image sensor , or cause it t o malfunction. Make sure not to block the scr een, lens, flash, or micr ophone. Learning the pr eview screen Change the shooting mode.
Camera 75 Half-pressing the Shutt er button Pr ess the Shutter button halfway do wn to adjust the focus . The camera adjusts the focus , exposure , and white balance automatically , and the f ocus frame turns green. The focus frame turns red if not f ocused.
Camera 76 Zooming in and out Use one of the f ollowing methods: • Use the V olume button to zoom in or out . • Spread two fingers apart on the screen to zoom in, and pinch to z oom out. • The zoom in/out eff ec t is available when using the z oom featur e while shooting video .
Camera 77 T aking videos T ap to take a video. T o stop recording , tap . While rec ording , tap where you want t o focus t o change the focus . • T o change the focus while taking a video , tap where y ou want to f ocus. T o focus on the centr e of the screen, tap .
Camera 78 U sing camera widgets Camer a Studio widget Use this widget to ac cess various camera-r elated apps . Refer to A dding items on how to add widgets . Edit app shortcuts. Picture F rame widget Use this widget to pla y a slideshow on the Home screen.
Camera 79 Separating the e xposure ar ea and the focus ar ea If bright light affects the contrast or the subject is outside the auto focus ar ea, use this feature to achieve an appr opriate exposure . Y ou can separate the exposur e and focus ar eas and select the exposure lev el you want for the subject.
Camera 80 U sing remot e viewfinder Use your devic e as a viewfinder for another device. Y ou can control the other devic e remotely to take photos or videos fr om a distance. Y our device displays the same image tha t is display ed on the connected device.
Camera 81 U sing the shooting mode About using the shooting mode V arious shooting modes are available with the camera. Y ou can use them to customise y our photos and videos. On the Apps screen, tap Camer a → MODE . T ap Manage modes to select the shooting modes to appear on the mode selection screen.
Camera 82 • Con tinuous shot : T ake a series of photos of moving subjects. • Selfie alarm : Detect a face in a preset area and take multiple phot os automatically . Y ou can then select the best photo. • Manual : Use this to adjust the shutt er speed and aper ture value manually .
Camera 83 Using pr o suggest mode Use this mode to take phot os with one of the automatically suggested smart modes or by applying pre -defined image settings. Image settings can be combined in a film and then applied to shots when you shoot them. Y ou can download various films or upload your o wn films.
Camera 84 Using manual mode This mode lets you adjust the shutt er speed and aper ture value manually . In this mode, you can fully contr ol the exposure of y our photos. This mode is useful in con trolled shooting envir onments, such as a studio , or when it is necessar y to fine -tune camera settings.
Camera 85 Using selfie alarm mode Use this to det ect a face in a preset area and to take multiple phot os automatically . Y ou can then select the best photo. 1 T ap Camer a on the Apps screen. 2 T ap MODE → Selfie alarm . 3 Drag or adjust the frame to set a det ec tion area.
Camera 86 Using HDR (rich t one) mode T ake photos with rich colours and repr oduce details even in bright and dark ar eas. On the Apps screen, tap Camer a → MODE → HDR (rich tone) , and then take a photo .
Camera 87 Using surr ound shot mode Use this mode to take multiple shots of y our immediate surroundings and combine them as a single spherical image. 1 T ap Camer a on the Apps screen. 2 T ap MODE → Surround shot . A target point er appears on the screen.
Camera 88 Using vir tual tour mode About vir tual tour mode Use this shooting mode to take photos in a space b y moving f or wards , or rotating left or right. Photos of the space ar e taken from differ ent angles. Y ou can view the photos in a slideshow and simulate actually moving through the spac e.
Camera 89 5 Move with the device slo wly in the direc tion of the arro w . When the dot is in the centr e of the large cir cle, the device starts tak ing photos. Repeat this action to take mor e photos. T o see a preview of the photo , tap at the bottom left of the screen.
Camera 90 4 Selec t a shooting mode and apply an eff ect to the photos. The a vailable modes var y depending on the photo you take . • Best photo : T ake a series of photos and save the best one . T o view other photos in the series, scroll left or right.
Camera 91 C onfiguring settings About c onfiguring settings On the Apps screen, tap Camer a → . Not all of the following options ar e available in both still camera and video camera modes .
Camera 92 • F ace det ec tion : Set the device to rec ognise people’ s faces and help you take phot os of them. • Picture size : Selec t a resolution. U se higher resolution f or higher qualit y . But it takes up more memory . • Quality : Use this option to select a higher photo quality for better phot os.
Camera 93 Reorganising camer a shor tcuts 1 On the Apps screen, tap Camer a → . 2 T ap and hold an item and drag it to a slot at the left of the screen. Y ou can reorganise camera shortcuts for fast and easy access on the pr eview screen. Shutter speed Shutter speed ref ers to the amount of time it takes to open and close the shutter .
Camera 94 Aper ture The size of the aperture is repr esented by a v alue k nown as an “F-number . ” The smaller the f-number , the g reat er the size of the aper ture . Adjust the aper ture value t o take por traits, flowers , or landscape shots. Selec t a low er aper ture value to make the photos brighter .
Camera 95 WB (light sour ce) The White balanc e repr esents the light sourc e that influences on the colour of a photo . The colour of a phot o depends on the type and qualit y of the light sour ce.
Camera 96 F ace detection Detecting faces The camera aut omatically detects up to 10 human faces in one scene . T ap → F ace det ec tion → Normal . Aim the camera at a human subject. The camera aut omatically focuses on their face and displays a y ellow frame around it.
Camera 97 OIS (anti-shake) Use the Optical Image Stabiliser (OIS) f eature to reduc e or eliminate blurriness from camera shake. T ap → OIS (anti-shake) . Camera 98 T rack ing AF T rack y our subject, even when the subject is moving or when you change the shooting composition. T ap → F ocus area → T r acking AF , and select a subjec t. T ap the subjec t to track, and then press the Shutter butt on halfway down to adjust the f ocus.
Camera 99 C onfiguring general settings On the Apps screen, tap Camer a → → . • Camer a func tion v olume : Adjust the v olume level for camera function sounds. • Beep : Activate or deactivate beep sounds . • Grid lines : Display viewfinder guides to help c omposition when selecting subjec ts.

Galler y 103 4 Selec t or add a contact to the tag . When the face tag appears on an image , tap the face tag and use available options, such as making calls or sending messages.
