4 Section 1: Getti ng Star ted Understanding this User Manual The sections of this manual are laid out t o assist you with your setup and follow the UI f eatures of your Galaxy Gear™. A robust index for featur es begins on page 76. Also included is important safety information, be ginning on page 51, that you should know before using your device.
Getting Started 5 Special T ext Throughout this manual, you’ll find text that is set apart from the rest. These are intended to point out important information, share quick method s for activating features, to define terms, and more.
6 Setting Up Y our Device These steps take you through an out-of- the-box setup process. These procedures ar e in tended to help you get your device setup, activated, and assis t you with your initial connection. Charging the Batter y Y our device is po wered by an internal rechargeable Li-ion battery.
Getting Started 7 3. Carefully place the device on to the cr adle (3), making sure to align the connector pl ates to the charging pins. 4. Firmly close the cover (4). 5. Insert the pow er plug into a compatible electrical outlet. 6. Insert the USB connector into the Chargin g cradle’ s charger jack.
8 Caution! Connecting the charger improperly may cause serious damage to the device. Any damage caused by misuse is not covered by the warranty . 7. Plug the charging head into a standard AC power outlet. The device turns on and indica tes its charge state.

10 Once paired, its the Gear Manager application tha t provides a direct connection and access to setup/configuration menus for the Galaxy Gear . Installing Gear Manager 1. Remove the Charging cradle fro m the packaging. 2. T urn on your smartphone and enable NFC communication.

Getting Started 13 W earing the Device 1. Thread the wristband through the F rame (1). 2. Slide your hand through the s trap opening. Caution! Humidity and liquids may damage your device. Keep your device dry . 3. Place the Metal Pin into the desired hol e on the wristband (2).
14 Rem o ving the De vice 1. Firmly grasp both sides of the buckle. 2. Carefully pull the Buck le upwards and away from the wristband. This caus es the metal joint to mov e upwards (away fro m the back of the Galaxy Gear). 3. Slide the wristband out from the Frame.

20 Navig ation and Gestures Using the touch screen display you can navigate the features of your device, select menu items, and enter characters. The following conventi ons are used in this manu al to describe the navigation ac tion in the procedures.

26 Connecting to a Different Galaxy Gear Although a single smartphone can be paired to multiple Galaxy Gear devices, only one device can be control led via the applica tion on the smartphone at an y single time.

34 Activ e Call Menu Options the In Call menu provides several a vailable options: More In-call Op tions During a call you can save the current caller ’ s information to the Contacts list, or crea te a Memo.
Calling Features 35 Logs T a b The Logs tab is a list of the phone numbers (or Contacts entries) for calls you placed, accepte d, or missed. The Logs tab makes redialing a number fast and ea sy .

38 Camera/Camcorder Settings T o configure settings for Camera: 1. Verify the camera mode is active (indica ted by ). 2. Ta p ( Menu ) to configure settings for the Camera. •F o c u s m o d e : Select a focus mode. Auto focus is cam era- controlled.

40 Media Controller This application lever ages the me dia playback capabilities of your smartphones Music player application. The Galaxy Gear can only be used to control the playback of the smartphone’s application. Note: Some file formats are not supported dep ending on the device’ s software version.

Using S Voice on the Galaxy Gear leverages the functionality of the sam e application on the p aired smar tphone to d o the work for you.

T ur ning on Outdoor Mode This mode brightens the conte n t on the display screen for better viewing in outdoor conditio ns.

48 Bluetooth About Bluetooth Bluetooth is a short-range co mmunications technology that allows you to connect wirele ssly to a number of Bluetooth devices, such as headsets and hands-free car kits, and Bluetooth-enabled handhelds, computers, printers, an d wireless devices.
Settings 49 Activating Visibility 1. From the Home (Clock) screen, scroll to and then ta p ( Apps ) ➔ Settings ➔ Bluetooth . 2. Verify your Bluetooth is active. 3. From the Bluetooth settings page, tap the Vi sibility field to turn it on. Activating th is fea ture makes your device visible and allows other devi ces to pair and communicate.
