4 5 n Kickback is a dange rous reacti on that can lead to serious injury. Kickback may occur when the moving chain con- tacts an object at the upper portion of the tip of the guide bar or when the wood closes in and pinches the chain in the cut.
4 5 SYMBOLS Gasoline and Oil Use unleaded gasoline intended for motor vehicle use with an octane rating of 87 [(R + M)/2] or higher . This product is power ed by a 2-cycle engine and requir es pre-mixing gasoline and 2-cycle oil. Some of the following symbols may be used on this tool.

8 9 n Pull apart the ends of the bracket to expand slightly. n Slide the bracket over the power head shaft immediately behind the “J” Barrier Handle. n Squeeze bracket ends together to retighten. n Reinstall the bolt, lock washer, and hex nut to secure.
10 11 WARNING: Do not allow familiarity with tools to make you care- less. Remember that a car eless fraction of a second is sufficient to inflict serious injury . WARNING: Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields, a har d hat, and safety shoes when operating tools.

14 15 MAINTENANCE REPLACING THE BAR See Figures 15 - 20. WARNING: T o avoid possible serious injury , stop engine before re- placing the bar , chain, or performing any maintenance operation. n Remove the bar nut and drivecase cover. n The bar cont ains a bar stu d slot that fits ove r the bar stud .
14 15 ST OP MAINTENANCE CHAIN OILER See Figure 22. n Use Premium Bar and Chain Oil. It is designed for chains and chain oilers and is formulated to perform over a wide temperature range with no dilution required. n Remove the cap and carefully pour approximately 8 oz.
16 17 MAINTENANCE CHAIN MAINTENANCE See Figure 23. For smooth and fast cutting, the chain needs to be main- tained properly . The following conditions indicate that the chain requir es sharpening: n W.
16 17 MAINTENANCE CAUTION: Dull or impr operly sharpened chain can cause excessi ve engine speed during cutting which may result in severe engine damage. WARNING: Improper chain sharpening increases the potential of kickback. Failur e to replace or repair damaged chain can cause serious injury .
18 19 FUEL CAP WARNING: A leaking fuel cap is a fire hazard and must be replaced immediately . The fuel cap contains a non-serviceable filter and a check valve. A clogged fuel filter will cause poor engine perfor - mance. If performance improves when the fuel cap is loos- ened, check valve may be faulty or filter clogged.
18 19 TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM CAUSE REMEDY Engine will not start. No spark. No fuel. Engine is flooded. Starter rope pulls harder now than when new . Check spark. Remove spark plug. Re attach the spark plug cap and lay spark plug on metal cylinder . Pull the starter r ope and watch for spark at spark plug tip.
