6 Chapter 1 Connections & Setup Things to Consider Befor e Y ou Connect Protect Against Power Sur ges • Connect all components before you plug any of their power cords into the wall outlet. • Turn off the TV/VCR and/or component befor e you connect or disconnect any cables.
Chapter 1 7 Connections & Setup Connect the TV/VCR There are several ways to connect your TV/VCR. If you want to connect your TV/VCR to another component, see the User ’ s Manual of the component for your connection. For an explanation of the back panel jacks go to page 8.
8 Chapter 1 Connections & Setup Jacks on the Back of Y our TV/VCR If you are connecting many components, please consult the manual that came with each component for connection instructions. The picture of your TV/VCR ’ s back panel describes the jacks on the back of your TV/VCR and what types of components that you can connect to these jacks.
Chapter 1 9 Connections & Setup Plug in the TV/VCR Plug the end of the power cord into the wall outlet. Match the wide blade of the plug with the wide slot in the outlet. Insert the plug completely into the outlet. Put Batteries in the Remote 1. Remove the battery compartment cover on the remote.
10 Chapter 1 Connections & Setup Setting the Clock The first step of the TV/VCR setup is setting the clock. Y ou must set the clock in order to program a timer recording. T o set the clock: 1. If the SYSTEM SET-UP menu is not displayed, press MENU.
Chapter 1 11 Connections & Setup 〈 +/ – /ENTER/MENU 〉 CH SET-UP TV CATV AUTO CH MEMORY ADD/DELETE Setting Daylight Saving Time The Daylight Saving Time is set to the AUTO position by default. If you want to set the time manually you need to set it “ON” on the first Sunday in April, and set it “OFF” on the last Sunday in October .
12 Chapter 1 Connections & Setup Adding or Removing Channels Y ou might want to add or remove channels if some of them are not active, have weak signals, or you do not want them in your channel memory. A channel that has been removed can still be selected by pressing the remote control ’ s number buttons.
Chapter 1 13 Connections & Setup VCR Basics Now that you ’ ve finished the initial setup, you can watch TV . Y ou can also begin using your VCR. In order to begin, you must first understand some basic concepts. Playing a T ape Insert a tape in the TV/VCR.
14 Chapter 1 Connections & Setup The Buttons on the Remote Contr ol 0-9 (Number buttons) Enter channel numbers and your V-CHIP password directly through the remote control. If you are receiving UHF/VHF channels, select a channel by pressing two number buttons.
Chapter 1 15 Connections & Setup PLA Y Plays a tape. PROGRAM Press to confirm the programmed timer and ON/OFF timer. RECORD Starts TV/VCR recording. RESET Resets video functions to factory settings. Also used to reset the time counter . REVERSE Rewinds the tape when the TV/VCR is stopped.

Using the TV/VCR ’ s Featur es 18 Chapter 2 V -Chip The V-CHIP SET menu allows you to program your TV/VCR so that children cannot see certain programs.

Sleep Timer The sleep timer allows you to set an amount of time you want to give before the TV/VCR shuts itself off.

Press the up or down arrow button to set the desired hour . Press ENTER to select the hour (the AM/PM setting will change as well).

Make sure there is a clear path. • Maybe the remote isn ’ t aimed directly at the TV/VCR. • Maybe batteries in remote are weak, dead or installed incorrectly.
