5 PREPARATION Cauti on: Make all the necess ary connections befo re you plug in or turn on the receiver. POSITIONING SPEAKERS Speaker (not supp lied) placement can make a noticeable difference in y our system’s sou nd. The g uidelines in this section will help you choose th e bes t lo cat ions.
6 2. Press open the r ecei v er’ s negati ve ( – ) black le ver for the same speak er and insert th e other conducto r’ s end into the small hole. Release the le ver to secure the con ductor . 3. Connect the ridged or color -coded conductor’ s loose end to the speaker’ s positi v e (+) terminal.
7 Attach the antenna wires fr om the AM loop antenna to the AM and GND (groun d) ANTENNA terminals. Place the antenna on a flat surface and r otate it for the best AM reception. Notes: • K eep the AM loop an tenna conn ected e ven when you use another indoor ant enna or an outdoor AM antenna.
8 Note: Grounding is not ne cessary for reception, but we recommend it fo r better FM reception and to avoi d damage from lig htning when you use an out door FM antenna. Use a separate piece of thick polyvinyl insulated wire to connect th e GND ANTENNA terminal to an earth g round, such as a metal cold-water pipe.
9 OPERATION Warnin g: To prevent possible hearing loss, turn VOLUME to MIN before you turn on the receiver or change the program source. After you turn on the receiver or chan ge the pro gram source, adjust VOLUME to a comfortable listening level.
10 • If yo u press TUNING UP at the top of th e frequenc y range o r TUNING DO WN at the bottom of the frequenc y range, the frequenc y at the opposite end of the ran ge appears. Direct T uning (Remote Control Only) Follow these steps to directly en ter a frequency.
11 Notes: • T o impro ve the reception of weak FM st ations, press FM MODE . This reduces signal noise, b ut you h ear monaural instead of s tereo sound. • Fo r stations with a weak sign al, we recommend manual tuni ng. ADJUSTING BALANCE The BALANCE control lets you adjust the so und balan ce between the left and right speakers.
12 T ROUBLESHOOTING If the receiv er is not wo rking as it should, the following suggestions m ight help. If yo u follow the suggestions in this char t and the receiver still does no t work pro perly, contact your local RadioShack sto re for assistance.
