10 INST ALLING THE BA TTER Y You need on e 9-volt batt ery (not supp lied) to protect t he module’ s me m- ory i f power fail s. We recomm end an alkali ne battery, such as Ra- dioSha ck Cat. No. 23-553. No te: You mu st also conne ct the su pplied AC a dapter to use the mod- ule.
11 4. Replace t he batt ery cover and turn the lock on t he bott om of the module t o LOC K t o secur e it. Then reco nnect the ph one lines, i f necessar y .

13 CONNECTING TO A PHONE 1. Disconnec t the tel e- phone line cor d from the phone. 2. Plug the l ine cord int o the module’ s WA L L jac k. 3. Plug one end of the suppli ed li ne co rd into the module’ s PHO NE jac k. 4. Plug the oth er end i nt o the phone’ s jack.
14 CONNECTING TO AN ANSWERING MACHINE 1. Disco nnect t he li ne cord t hat conn ects your answer ing mac hine to your phone f rom the answer ing machi ne’ s jack . Then pl ug the cord in to the module’ s PHONE jack . 2. Plug one end of the suppl ied li ne cord int o the module’ s WA L L jack .

17 All Syst em 440 modules are set up as the MAIN module. I f you inst all additi onal modul es, you must program each addi tiona l module as an ex - tensio n ( EXT ) modul e, or incomi ng cal ls mi ght be disco nnected. Follow these st eps to pr ogram an addi tional module as an e xtensi on ( EXT ) module: 1.
