2 FEA TURES Your Radio Shack Weath eradio with Alert is design ed to receive National Weather Service broadcasts. These broadcasts provide information ab out weather conditions and forecasts 24 hours a day. Your radio receives these transmissions from up to 50 miles away.

5 POWER SOURCE S CONNECT ING AC POWER Plug t he Weat heradio’s powe r cord into a standard AC outle t. Caution: To prevent electric shock, the plug’s blades are po larized and fit only one way. If the plug will not fit easi- ly, turn it over and try again.
6 OPE R ATION RECEIVING WEAT HER BROADCASTS Follow these step s to receive National Weathe r Serv ice (NWS) broa dcasts. 1. T o turn on the radio, t u r n VOLUME to t he right u ntil it cli cks. The a le rt indica tor lig hts. When y o u turn on the radio, it is set to the alert m ode .

USING T HE ALERT MODE You can set t he W eatheradio to alert you when the Na- tiona l Wea ther S e r vi c e broadc asts an em ergency signal, without h aving to listen t o continuous weather upd ates.
8 Note: We sugges t you use the OFF set ting when you will be awa y from t he radi o so t he siren does not di s- turb others if it sounds. When you ret urn, the radio’ s alert indicator flashes to l et you know that th e radio received an alert signal broadcast.
9 T esting th e Alert Cir cuit The TEST but ton lets you he ar the alert siren the Weath- eradio produces , but does not guaran tee your rad io will receive a n em ergency alert broadc ast (see “Test ing Alert Reception”). Follow these steps to sound the alert siren.
10 T estin g Alert Recep tion The fact that you get clear voice reception or that the si- ren sounds when you pre ss TEST does no t guarant ee that an emergen cy alert broadcast will trigger your Weatheradio’s alert siren.
11 CARE AND MAINTENANCE Your Weatheradi o is an example of superior design and craftsmans hip. The follo wing suggestions will help you care for your r a dio so you can enjoy it for yea rs. Keep the radio dry. If it gets wet , wipe it dry immedia tely.
12 Wipe the Wea theradio with a damp clo th occasionally to keep it looking new. Do n ot use ha rsh chem icals, clean ing solvents, or strong detergents to clean the radio.
