Chapter 1 15 NOTE: When using the touchpad, keep it - and your fingers - dry and clean. Th e touchpad is sensitive to finger movements; hence, the lighter the t ouch, the better the response. T apping too hard will not in crease the touchpad’ s responsiveness.
16 Chapter 1 Using the Keyboard The keyboard has full-sized keys and an embedd ed keypad, separate cursor keys, one Windows key and twelve function keys. Lock Keys and embedded numeric keypad The keyboard has three lock keys which yo u can toggle on and off.
Chapter 1 17 Hot Keys The computer employs hotkeys or key combinations to access most of the computer ’s controls like screen brightness, volume output, and the BIOS utility . T o activate hot keys, press and hold the < Fn> key before pressing the other key in the hotkey combination.

Chapter 2 39 BIOS Setup Utility The BIOS Setup Utility is a hardware configuration prog ram built into y our computer ’s BIOS (Basic Input/ Output System). Y our computer is alre ady properly configured and optimi zed, and you do not need to run this utility .
40 Chapter 2 Navigating the BIOS Utility There are seven menu options: Info., Main, Syst em Devices, Security , Power , Boot, and Exit. Follow these instructions: T T o choose a menu, use the cursor left/right keys ( zx ). T T o choose an option, use the cursor up/down keys ( wy ).

Memory check Memory errors might stop system operations, show error messages on the screen, or hang the system. 1. Chapter 4 85 Intermittent Problems Intermittent system hang problems can be caused by a variety of reasons that have nothin g to do with a hardware defect, such as: cosmic radiation, electros tatic discharge, or software errors. FRU replacement should be considered only when a recurring prob lem exists.
86 Chapter 4 Undetermined Problems The diagnostic proble ms does not identify wh ich adapter or device failed, which in stalled devices are incorrect, whether a short circuit is suspected, or whether the system is inoperative.
