12 English Indicators The computer has three easy-to-read status indicators on the left side of the keyboard , and four locate d on the front of th e computer. The power, battery, and wireless communication sta tu s indicators are visible eve n when the LCD displ ay is close d.
13 English Using the keyboard The full-sized keyboard includes an embedded n umeric ke ypad, separate cursor keys, two Window s keys and twelve function keys. Lock keys The keyboard has three lock functions which you can toggle on and off. Lock key Description Caps Lock When Caps Lock is on, all alp habetic characters entered are in uppercase.
14 English Embedded numeric keypad The embedded numeric keypad functi ons like a desktop PC's numeric keypad. It is indicated b y small ch aracters located on the right-hand side of the ke ycaps. 15 English Windows keys The keyboard also has two keys that perform Win dows-sp ecific functions. Key Description Windows logo key Start button. Comb inations with this key perform shortcut functions.
16 English Hot keys The computer employs hot keys or ke y combinations to access most of the computer's controls like screen brightness , volume output an d the BIOS utility. To activate hot keys, press and hold the < Fn > k ey before pressing the other key i n the hot key comb ination.
17 English Fn + F7 Touchpad toggle Turns the internal touchpad on and off. Fn + F8 Speaker toggle Turns the speakers on and off. Fn+ ↑ Volume up Increases the speaker volume. Fn+ ↓ Volume down Decreases the speaker volume. Fn+ → Brightness up Increases the screen brightness.
18 English The Euro symbol If your keybo ard layout i s set to United States-I nternational , United Kingdom or if you have a keyboard with a European layout, you can type the Euro symbol on your keyboard. Note for US keyboard users: The keyboard layou t is set when you first set up Windows.
19 English Launch keys The four launch keys are located above the keyboard on the left hand side. They are de signated as the mail butt on, th e Web browser, the Acer Empowering Key "" , and a user programmable button. Press the Acer Empowering Key "" to run Acer eMana ger.
20 English Touchpad The built-in touchpad is a pointing de vice that sen ses movement on its surface. This means the cursor respon ds as you move your finger on the surface of the touchpad. The central lo cation on the palmrest provides optimum comfort and support.
21 English Note: Keep your fingers dry and clean wh en using the touchpad. Also keep the touchpad dry an d clean. The touchpad is sensitive to finger movement, hence, the lighter the touch, the better the response. Tapping harder will not increase th e touchpad's responsiveness.
22 English Ejecting the optical (CD or DVD) drive tray To eject the tray of an external IEEE 1394-compatible opt ical drive, press the eject button on the exte rnal drive (PC must be powered on). When the power is off, yo u can ejec t the drive tray using the emergency eject hole.
23 English Audio The computer comes with Intel ® high-d efinitio n audio, and dual stereo speakers. Adjusting the volume Adjusting the volume on th e computer is easy. See "Hot keys" on page 16 for more information on ad justing the speaker volume.

39 English Installing memory Follow these steps to install m emory: 1 Turn off the computer, unplug th e AC adaptor (if connected) and remove the battery pack. Then tu rn the computer over to access its base. 2 Remove the screws from the memo ry cover; then lift up and remove the memory cover.
40 English Boot sequence To set the boot sequence in the BIOS utility, activate the BIOS utility, then select " Boot " from the categories listed at the top of the sc reen.
