C1552M-C (7/07) 7 Description The Pelco VMX300(-E) video mana gement system uses a Windows ® -based inte rface to cont rol any combinatio n of analog a nd IP devices in a single integ rated video se curity syste m. With a mouse, y ou can click a ca mera icon on a system map and t hen drag it t o a video dis play window.
8 C1552M-C (7/07) MODELS VMX300 and VMX300-E wo rkstations come with soft ware preloaded on a rack mountable PC; keyboard and mouse are includ ed. Each workstation su pports two monit ors. (Note: Mo nitors are not included. A sta ndard VGA or Super VGA monitor can be used.
C1552M-C (7/07) 9 VMX300-E MODEL S VMX300-E provid es control and monitoring of CCTV equipment in th e following conf igurations: client-to-se rver; multip le clients- to-server; client-to-multiple servers; or server -to-server . A VMX300-E workstation can be a cl ient/server workstatio n (VMX300-E-CSVR) or a client workstation (VMX300-E-CL).
10 C1552M-C (7/07) VMX300E-B BACKUP SERVER A VMX300-E system can include an optional VMX300E-B-SVR backup server . VMX300E-B-SVR bac kup server workstations include the bac kup server soft ware applicati on and licensing for the backup server and cli ent and up to 10 cameras.

12 C1552M-C (7/07) Pelco switchers that include the AS CII protocol in their softwa re communicate directly with the VMX300(-E) workstation, as show n in Figur e 2. The ASCII protoc ol is native to all of the matr ix switchers except for the CM9740 Series and some of the older CM 9760 Series sw itchers.
C1552M-C (7/07) 13 A controllab le camera that is switched through a switcher can ei ther be control led through the switcher or di rectly from th e VM X300(-E) workstation. If you want to control the ca mera through th e switcher , connect the camera’ s data line to the switcher (r efer to F igur e 4).

20 C1552M-C (7/07) Installation PARTS LIST USER -SUPPLIED PARTS In addition to the stan dard tools and cables re quired for a video security insta llation, you will need t o provide the following items: • One or two VGA or SVGA mo nitors for each VMX3 00(-E) workstation (the secon d monitor is optional but recommended ).
C1552M-C (7/07) 21 Mounting Mount the VMX300(-E) in an EIA-standard 19-inch (48.26 cm) equipment rack, or place it on a flat sur face, such as a shelf or ta ble. Follow these i nstructions to mo unt the VMX300 (-E) in an equi pment rack: 1. Attach the tw o brackets to both sides of the VMX300(-E).

C1552M-C (7/07) 29 KBD300A KEYBOARD 1. Use the RJ-45 straight data cab le that comes with the KBD300A to connect the keyboard to the RJ- 45 wall block, provided in th e KBDKIT . 2. Connect the p ower supply (provided in the KBDKIT) to term inals 3 and 4 on the wa ll bloc k.

32 C1552M-C (7/07) SPECTRA/ESPRIT CONTROL CONNECTIONS If you connected a Spectra or Esprit camera positionin g system di rectly to a vide o input port on the VMX300(-E) workstation (-1 or -4 models only), you must also connect a data cable to th e VMX300(-E) wo rkstation to provide d irect camera control from the VMX 300(-E).
C1552M-C (7/07) 33 CM6700 SWITCHER T o co nnect a CM6700 swit cher directly t o the VMX300(-E), complete the following steps: 1. Using a modifie d null modem cable (user -supplied), plug one end into the DB9 COM 1 port on the VMX300(-E).
34 C1552M-C (7/07) CM6800 SWITCHER Y ou can connect a CM6 800 switcher directly to the VMX300(-E), using t he DB9 COM port on the VMX300(-E). Th e recommended CM 6800 port varies, dep ending on t he CM6800 switch er model a nd configur ation. T able J provides a port recommendation for each model or confi guration.
