12 SIM and bat tery SIM and battery Fittin g and rem oving the SIM You insert the SIM into the back of the phone, underneath the battery. If your SIM contains contact details, the firs t time that you br owse your contacts list after fitting a new SIM, you are asked whether you want to transfer the SIM data to your phone.
13 SIM an d ba ttery SIM and ba ttery Charging the batter y The battery must be fitted in the phone before you connect the charger. Press the button on the top of the connector and insert it into the bas e of the phone. Connect the charger to t he mains power supply.

27 Voice calls Voice call s Making i nternatio nal c alls If you know the international number, you can ente r it in the normal way, followed by the area code and phone num ber. You can use t he automatic internati onal access code (+) , to dial intern ational numbers without knowing the code for th e international exchange.

29 Voice calls Voice call s Rejecting calls To reject an incoming call: Wait until the heads et or car kit rings. Press and hold down t he main function key on the E B-BHX70 headset until you h ear a low tone, or press the red end button on most car kits.

33 Voice calls Voice call s Adding people You can add people to the multi-party call (up to a maximum of five), either by making a call or accepting an incoming call. You can then merge the new call into the multi-party. Press Q . Select Merge .
34 Voice calls Voice cal ls Using th e notepa d During a call you can enter numbers that you ma y want to dial when you have finished the call. You can make a note of these num bers on the notepad. Enter the num ber. When you have fini shed your call, p ress D to di al the num ber.
35 Text entry Text entry You use alphanumeric ch aracters to enter de tails into the Contacts List , to create text and e-mail messages . There are five different text entry modes: normal ( AB C or abc ), Greek ( V ), ext ended alphabet ( W ), numbers ( X ) and T9 ® ( T9 ).
36 Text entry Text en try T9 ® Using T9 ® reduces the number of key presses required. When in T9 ® mode: Press a key once for any letter you require on th at key. The desired letter may not be displayed. Continue pressing other keys until the end of a word is reached.
37 Text en try Text entry Edit ing te xt Press e to move up or down one line of text. Press f to move left or right one character. Press B t o delete t he character to th e left of the cursor.
38 Settings Settings Use the Settings m enu to personalise your phone. Display Setting the wallpaper The wallpaper is a picture that d isplays when the ph one is in idle mode. Select Wallpaper . Select your pictur e. If your pictur e is not i n the fo lder press B then select a nother folder.

41 Settings Settings Menu > Se ttings > Alerts Alerts Changing the ring volume You can change the ring v olume so that yo u can hear your phone ring. For example, in a noisy environment you may want to set the volume to maximum. Select Ring Volum e .

Select Clock Set > Auto Adjustment > On . The phone gets your location from the local network provider, and adjusts the clock automaticall y.

52 Settings Settings Menu > Settings > Cal l divert Sending your num ber If your network supports this function, you can decide whether you want your phone number to be sent when you make a call. Select Send My Number . Select from Networ k Set , On and Off .
53 Settings Settings Menu > Settings > Security Security Setting and cancelling the phone lock When the phone lock is set you can only use the phone to receive incoming calls and to make emergency calls. Select Phone Lock > On/Off > On .
54 Settings Settings Menu > Settings > Security Setting and cancelling c all bar Call barring restricts certain types of incoming and/or outgoing calls, using a password provided by your service provider. When you check the status of the Call Bar, your phone must be registered with a network.
55 Settings Settings Menu > Settings > Security Enabling and disabling PIN and PIN2 The PIN protects your phone against unauthorised use. If you enable the PIN, you have to enter it every ti me you t urn on the pho ne. You need PIN2 to set fixed dial numbers.
56 Settings Settings Menu > Set tings > Ne twork Enabling and disabling fi xed dial Fixed dial is part of the Contacts List , but with add ed security. When you enable fixed dial: z You can only dial numbers that are in the f ixed dial store z If you manually dial a number, it must match one in the fixed dial store.
57 Settings Settings Menu > Settings > Defaults Search mode You can set the Search Mode to Automat ic or Man ual . When the Search Mode is Manual , the phone only uses the selected network. If coverage is lost, you need to select another network.
58 Contacts list Contacts list Use the Contacts List menu to store a person’s phone numbers, e-mail addresses, company name, pi cture and other informatio n. You can also set up how your contacts list is organised and displayed. Brows e This menu only applies to contact s stored on your phone.

66 Contacts list Cont acts l ist Menu > Contacts list > Storage Creating barred dial number entries When you enable barred dial you can no l onger dial the number s that you entered as barred dial numbers. You can use this to stop certain numbers being dialled.
67 Games Games The games that ar e on your ph one are netw ork depe ndent . If you have four games listed then you have em bedded games and should follow the instructions in the Embedded games section. If you have one game listed then y ou have downloadable games and should follow the in structions in the Downloadable gam es section.
68 Games Games Vibrati ons If you turn vibrations on, the phone vibrates when a target is hit in the game. You can select from On and Of f . Backlight Use this to set your key backlight. You can select from Off , On 30s and Always on . Downloada ble ga mes You have one embedded game - Wallbr eaker.
69 Browser Browser Use the Browser menu to access I nternet services supported by the network, such as n ews, weather reports and s port. Server l ist Before you can access the Internet, your SIM mu st be data enabled and the configuration information must be entered.
70 Browser Brow ser Menu > Browser > Hom e page Home page To start the browser, select Home Page (to start the brows er from id le mode press t he j key). This opens the browser at your service provider’s home page. This is recalled from the cache each time you start the browser.

74 Camera Camera You can take pictur es with the bui lt-in camera, and send them in multimedia (MMS) and e-mail messages , or use them as wallpaper. Changing to camer a mode To change to camera mode either sel ect Camera from the main menu, or press B f rom idle mode.
75 Camera Camera Taking a self- portrait You can take a s elf-portrait using the shutter butt on on the side of the phon e. Ensure that th e phone is i n camera mode. Close the phon e. View the image in the se lf-portra it mirror. Press the shutter button on the side of the phone.

77 Camera Camera Changing the fo rmat Select Format . Choose from JP EG Fine , JPEG Normal , JPEG Economy and PNG . JPEG Economy produces a small file but with a low resolution. JPEG Normal produces a f ile which is acceptable for most uses. JPEG Fine an d PNG produce large files with high resolution.

79 Camera Camera Capture mode With Capture Mode you can cho ose from: Sing le Sho t takes a single picture. Multi Shot captures images at 1 second intervals while you hold Q down, to a maxim um of six images. Self Tim er delays the taking of an image.
80 Messagin g Messaging From the Messaging menu you can send and receive MMS, SMS and e- mail messages . The nine menus are as follows: MMS MMS st ands for Multimedia M essage S ervice. Wi th MMS you can a ttach images and music to text mes sages. The recipi ent can play the images and music as a s lide show.
81 Messagi ng Messa ging Menu > Me ssagi ng > S ettin gs > M MS Configur ing MMS You must configure your M MS before you can send or receive MMS messages. You can create up to three server profiles on the phone. For Circuit Switch , select Set , then select Edit and set: z Digital Dial number z Analogue Dial nu mber z Circ uit Type .
82 Messagin g Messag ing Menu > Mess aging > Setti ngs > MMS Setting send options You set send options to determine what happens to messages that you send. Req. Deliv. Recpt . Decide whether or not you want confirmation that your message has been delivered.

Setting what is displayed You can decide whether to display the subject or the address in your inbox and outbox.

85 Messagi ng Messa ging Menu > Messagin g > Inbox > MMS Inbox The messages you receive are stored in the Inbox . Select Inbox > MMS . If there are messages waiting, a number appears by Waiting . You need to retrieve these messages before you can play any audi o files attached to them.

88 Messagin g Messag ing Menu > Messaging > Setting s > SMS Recipien t grou p You can preset the destinatio n of text mess a ges. There are five recipient groups. You can store up to ten destinations in each group. To name or r ename a group: Highlight a group number or name.

You can store up to 15 m essages in your SIM (depending on your SIM), and 200 in your phone. If your SIM storage is full or nearly full, you can move messages to yo ur phone storage.

Sending a new m essage Enter your message text, and include the fixed line number somewhere in the message.

92 Messagin g Messag ing Menu > Messag ing > Bro adcas ts Broadca st s Broadcasts are messages sent on a v ariety of s ubjects by your s ervice provider. Topics Before you can receive broadcasts, you need to specify the topics of information that you want to receive.
93 Messagi ng Messa ging Menu > Messag ing > SM S chat SMS cha t With SMS Chat you can read sent and received messages with another party on one screen. Use this to start a call in chat mode. Enter the phone number you want to chat with. To enter a number using the keypad: Enter the number , then select Menu > Ok .

100 Data folders Data folders Use data folders to store your pictures, sounds and t hemes. There are three predefined folders for My Pictures , My Sounds and My Themes . These may contain preloaded f iles. There are five em pty folders. You can customise any of these folders.
