2 PowerScan ® Scanner Integrating the Scanner With Y our Host System Y our scanner MUST be equipped with the correct har dware (interface board, cable, etc.) to pr operly communicate with your host system. Contact your PSC dealer for inform ation if you have questions about your scanner ’s hardwar e compatibility .
Programming Guide 3 T o determine if your desired new inte rface is available on your scanner , check the following section titled Software on page 4. The section lists host interface types supported by ea ch interface board available at the time of this writing.
4 PowerScan ® Scanner Software V erify that your scanner supports the desired interface 1 . The list below indicates the interface groupings the scanner supports. Contact your nearest PSC service depot if you don’t know your scanner ’s gr oup, or need assistance to change the sc anner to another interface group.
Programming Guide 5 After familiarizing yourself with the basic scanner programming pr o- cedures in this section, turn to the appr opriate interface programming section (RS-232, W and Emulation, etc. ) of this manual to set other inter- face features, completing the scanner ’s conversion to a new interface type.
6 PowerScan ® Scanner Programming Overvie w The scanner ’s programmable featur e settings can be modified to accommodate your system’s unique requir ements. These settings can be communicated to the scanner in one of two ways: 1. Commands can be sent directly fr om the host.
Programming Guide 7 Programming Session A typical programming session is conducted as follows: 1. Scan the SET bar code at the beginning of each set of program- ming bar codes to place the scanner in Programming Mode.
8 PowerScan ® Scanner 3. Scan the END label at the bottom of the page to save any new settings and exit Programming Mode. The scanner will sound a beep and reset upon exiting Pr ogramming Mode, and the green LED will r eturn to its us ual state (on steady or of f).
Programming Guide 9 Programming Sequence T o modify a scanner feature (item ), the pr ogramming bar codes con- tained in this manual must be sca nned in a given sequence depending upon the feature being pr ogrammed (as shown in T able 1). There ar e three possible pr ogramming sequences: A.
