5 1 A quick look P ack age cont ents • If any of the items is damaged or missing , contact ASUS for technical inquiries and suppor t. 9 2 Crea ting your netw ork 45° 45° 90° ADSL WAN P ositioning your rout er T o get the best wireless network per formance from y our wireless router , f ollow the recommendations below: • Place the wireless r outer at the center of your netw or k for maximum wireless co verage.
10 Wha t you need T o set up your network, y ou need one or two computers that meet the following sy stem requirements: • Ethernet RJ-45 (LAN) por t (10Base-T/100Base-T X/1000Base-T ) • IEEE 802.
11 C onnec ting your devic es Wired c onnec tion T o set up y our ADSL router using a wired connection: 1. Insert the splitter ’ s line connector to the phone outlet and connect your phone into the phone port. 2. Using the bundled phone cable , connect your DSL-N55U-C1’ s ADSL por t to the splitter ’ s DSL port.
12 Before y ou proceed Before configuring y our wireless router , apply the steps described in this section to each computer on the network to av oid problems connecting to the wireless network. A. Disable any c onfigured pro x y ser vers . Windo ws ® 7 1.

17 3 Netw ork congur ation using the w eb GUI Logging in to the w eb GUI Y our ASUS Wireless Router uses a web-based user inter face that allows you t o configure the router using an y web browser such as Internet Explorer , Mo zilla Firef ox, Apple Safari, or Google Chrome.

19 Setting up the wireless security settings T o protect your wireless network fr om unauthor ized access , you need to configure its security settings. T o set up the wir eless securit y settings: 1. Key in http://router .asus.com or http://192.168.
20 5GHz security settings 4. On the Wireless name (SSID) field , key in a unique name for your wireless netw or k. 5. F rom the Security Level dr opdown list, select the encr yption method for y our wireless network. The IEEE 802.11n/ac standard prohibits using High Throughput with WEP or WP A-TKIP as the unicast cipher .
21 Managing your netw ork clients T o manage y our network clients: 1. Launch the wireless router’ s web GUI. 2. On the Network Map screen, select the Client Status ic on to display inf or mation about your network clients .
22 Monitoring y our USB device The ASUS W ireless Router pro vides t wo USB 2.0 ports for connecting USB devices such as a USB storage devic e and USB printer , to allo w you to monitor the working environment , share files, and pr inter with clients in y our net work.

24 Crea ting your Guest Network The Guest Network pro vides Internet connectivit y for temporary visitors without pro viding access to your privat e net work. T o cr eate your guest network: 1. Launch the wireless router’ s web GUI. 2. On the Guest Network screen, click Cr eate to create a network for y our visitors.
25 Using the T r affic Manager Managing QoS (Quality of S er vice) Bandwidth The Quality of Ser vice (QoS) allows you to set the bandwidth priority and manage the net work traffic. T o set up the bandwidth priority: 1. Launch the wireless router’ s web GUI.
26 Monitoring T raffic The traffic monitor function allows y ou to assess the bandwidth usage and speed of your Internet , LAN, Wired, WLAN (2.4GHz or 5GHz) connections. Using the USB applica tion The USB application function provides AiDisk , S er vers C enter , Network P rinter Ser ver , Download Master and Media Master submenus.
27 Using AiDisk f or File Sharing AiDisk allows you t o share files in the USB disk through the Internet. Before using AiDisk, ensure tha t you have inserted a USB disk into the USB port of your wireless router . T o use A iD isk: 1. Click the AiDisk icon in USB application.
28 3. Select the access rights that you want to assign t o the clients accessing your shar ed data. 4. Create y our domain name via the ASUS DDNS ser vices, select I will use the service and accept the T erms of service and key in your domain name . When done, click Ne x t .
29 5. Click F inish to finish the setup. 6. T o access the FTP site that y ou created , launch a web browser or a third-part y FTP client utility and key in the f tp link ( ftp://<domain name> ) you have pr eviously created .
30 Using the Netw ork Place (Samba) Share service Network Place (Samba) Share allo ws you to set the account and permission for samba service. T o use Samba share: 1. Click the Network plac e (S amba) Share tab in the Servers Cent er of USB applic ation .
31 Using the FTP Shar e ser vice Sharing files via the FTP server The ASUS W ireless Router enables you t o share files from your USB storage device via the FTP server with computers in LAN or through the Internet. T o use this feature , you need to insert a USB storage device, such as a USB hard disk or USB flash drive , to the USB2.
32 4. F rom the list of files/folders, selec t the type of access rights that you want t o assign for specific files/folders: • R/W : S elect this option to assign read/write access for a specific file/folder . • W : S elect this option to assign write only access for a specific file/folder .
33 Using the Miscellaneous setting The Miscellaneous setting tab allows you t o configure other settings for the USB disk, including maximum lo gin user , device name, work group and language on FTP ser ver . T o use misc ellaneous setting: 1. Click the Miscellaneous setting tab in the Ser vers C enter of USB application .
34 C onfiguring the Adv anced settings The Adv anced Settings items allows you t o configure the advanc ed features of your wireless r outer . Setting up the DHCP Ser ver Y ou may enable the DHCP Server function in your wireless r outer so your network clients can automa tically obtain IP addresses from your wir eless router .
35 3. In the Enable the DHCP Ser ver? field , tick Y es . 4. In the IP P ool Star ting Address field , key in the star ting IP address. 5. In the IP P ool Ending Address field , key in the ending IP address.
36 T o upgr ade the firmware: 1. Click Administr ation from the navigation panel. 2. Click the F irmware Upgrade tab . 3. In the New F irmware F ile item, click Browse . Navigate to the downloaded firmware file . 4. Click Upload . Upgrading the firmw are Download the latest firmware fr om the ASUS website at http://support.
37 Restoring/Saving/U ploading settings T o r estore/sav e/upload wireless router settings: 1. Click Administr ation on the navigation panel. 2. Click the Restore/Sa ve/Upload Setting tab . 3. 38 2. Click Download Now! in the ASUS EZ print er sharing mo de to download the network printer utility . Setting up your networ k printer Use the Network P rinter Setup utilit y to set up a USB printer on your wireless r outer and share the printer with other devices on the network.

43 4 U sing the utilities • Install the wireless router's utilities fr om the bundled suppor t CD . • If Autorun is disabled , run setup .exe fr om the root director y of the suppor t CD . When you set the rout er to Access P oint mode, you need t o use Device Discov er y to get the router ’ s IP address.
44 F irmware Restor ation F irmware Restoration is used on an ASUS Wireless Router after a failed firmware upgrade . This utility uploads a firmware file to the wireless router . The process takes about three to four minutes . T olaunchrescuemodeandusetheFirmwareRestoration utility: 1.

If you have regist ered for the ASUS DDNS ser vice but need to ex change devices at the ser vice center , inf orm the ser vice center tha t you want to keep the original domain name and retain the DDNS service.
