For your safety Read these simple guidelines. Not following them may be dangerous or illegal. Read the complete user guide for further infor mation. SWITCH ON SAFELY Do not switch the device on when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference or danger.
EMERGENCY CALLS Ensure the phone function of the device is switched on and in service. Press the end key as many times as needed to clear the display and return to the s tandby mode. Ent er the emergency number, then press the call key. Give your location.
For availability of appr oved enhancements, please check with your dealer. When you disconnect the power cord of any enhancement, grasp and pull the plug, not the cord. Your device and its enhance ments may contain small parts. Keep t hem out of rea ch of small children.
Get started Note: Your service provider may have requested that cert ain featur es be di sabled or not activated in your device. If s o, they do not a ppear on your device menu. Your device may a lso have been specially configured for your net work provider.

To insert the battery, alig n the contacts of the battery with the correspondi ng connect ors on the battery compartmen t, insert in the direction o f the arrow, and gently click the ba ttery into place. 5. Insert the locking catches of the back co ver into the corresponding slots (1), and slide the cover in the direction of the arrow (2).
1. Remove the batt ery cover. 2. Insert the memory card full y into the memory card slot. Ensure that the bev eled corner of the memory card is pointing towards the device and the contact area is facing down. 3. Replace the battery cover. 4. To remo ve the memory card, pr ess the power key and select Remove mem.
Enter basic settings When you powe r on the dev i ce for the first time, and when you power o n the device aft er the battery ha s been empty or removed for a longer period of time, your device asks fo r the ci ty in which you are located, time, and date.
Keys and parts Fold open 1 — Keypad light key. Press th e key to il luminat e your keypad f or a period of time. 2 — Power key 3 — Selection keys 4 — Internet key. Press and hold the key in the standby mode to browse the Web. 5 — Clear (backspace) key 6 — Chr key.
Fold closed 1 — Power key 2 — Loudspeaker 3 — Infra red port 4 — Left selection key, joystick, and right selecti on key. Press either selection ke y to perform the function shown above i t on the di sp lay. Press the joystick to enter a selection or a ccess most commonly used functions i n different applic ations.
To lock the keypad in the standby mode, press the left selection key and * . To unlock, press the left selection key and * again. Tip: To lock the keypad in the Menu or in an open applicat ion, press the power key briefly, and select Lock keypad . To unlock, press the left selection key and * .
The picture shows the normal use of the device at the ear for voice calls. About the display A small number of missing, discolored, or bright dots may appear on the screen. This is a characteristic o f this type of display. Some displays may contain pixels or dots that rem ain on or off.

You have selected the silent profil e, and the device does not ring for an incoming call or message. Bluetooth is activated. An infrared connection is active. If the indicator blinks, your device is tr ying to connect to the other device, or the connectio n has been lost.
Change writing language If you are wri ting text, for exa mple a note or a message, you can change the writing la nguage. When you are writing and press a ke y several ti mes to reach a specific character, changing the writ ing language gives you access to a different cha racters.

3. Activate Bluetooth in your other device, and select Continue in your Nokia E70 to start searching for devices with active Bluetooth connectivity. 4. Select Stop in your Nokia E70 afte r it has found your other devi ce. 5. Select your other device from the list.
Your device Settings When you sw itch the d evice on, it may reco gnize the SIM card provider and configure the correct text message, multimedia messa ge, and GPRS settings automatically. You may also receive the settings as a special text message from your ser vice provider.
Device help You can access the device help from an open application or from the Menu . When you have an applicatio n open, select Options > Help to rea d instructi ons for the current view. To open help from Menu , select Help > Help . In Help , you can select categories for which you want to see instructio ns.
To print to a compatible printer, select Options > Print . You can preview items that you wa nt to print, or edit the way printed pages look. Before you can print, you must define a compatible printer to your device. See "Print," p . 85. To copy, press the edit key, and select the text with the joystick.
Make calls When the device is locked, calls still may be possib le to the official emergency numb er programmed int o your device . In the offline profile, you may need to enter the lock code and change the device to a calling profile befo re making any call, including a c all to an emergency number.
Answer a call Note: The ac tual invoice for call s and services from your service provider may vary, depending on network features, ro unding off fo r billing, taxes, and so forth . To answer a call, press the call key. To reject the call, press the end key.
To bar calls, select Cellular call barring and select fr om the followin g options: • Outgoing calls — Prevent making voice calls with your device. • Incoming calls — Bar incoming calls. • International calls — Prevent calling to foreign countries or regio ns.
Log Select Menu > Log . In the Log , you can view information abo ut the communication histor y of the device. To view the logs for recent vo ice calls, their approximate duratio n, and packed data connections, select Recent calls , Call duration , or Packet data ; and press the joystick.
• Callback request tone — Define the ringing tone for callback requests. • Application star t-up — Select if you want to log in to the push to talk service when you sw itch on your device. • Default nickname — Enter yo ur default nickname (20 character s maximum) that is displayed to other users.
Answer or reject a call, When you receive a push to talk call, press the call key to answer the call o r the end key to dismiss the call. Callback requests To send a callback request, sel ect Options > PTT contacts , scroll to the desired contact, and select Options > Send callback request .
To switch between channel s during multiple calls, select Swa p . The active channel is highlighted. To view the currently active participants in the channel, select Opt ions > Active memb ers . To invite a participant to a channel, select Options > Send invitation .
Preferred profile Select Menu > Connect. > Internet tel. to change settings. Before you can select the default profile, you must create profiles in Menu > Tools > Settings > Connecti on > Internet tel.
• Autolock period — Set a time-out after which the device is automati cally lo cked and can be used only if the correct lock code is entered. Enter a number f or the time-out in minu tes, or select None to turn off the autolock period.
• Copy to Contacts — Copy the fixed dialing contact to Contacts . • Add from Contacts — Copy a cont act from Contacts to your fixed dialing list. Tip: To send text messages to the SIM contacts while the fixed dial ing service is active, you need to add the text message center number to the fixed dialing list.
Contacts Selec t Menu > Contacts . Manage all of your cont act information, such as phone numbers and addresses. Add a personal ringing tone, voice tag, or a thumbnail image to a contact.
Manage default information Assign a default number or address to a con tact so you can easily call or sen d a message to the default number or address, even if severa l numbers or addresses are saved to t hat contact. To change default informatio n for a contact, open the contact, an d select Options > Defaults .

Messages Select Menu > Messag. . Before send ing or rec eiving message s, you may ne ed to do the following: • Insert a valid SIM c ard in the dev ice and be l ocated in a service area of the cellul ar network. • Verify that the network supports the messaging features you want to us e an d that they are activated on your SIM card.
Search for messages To search for a message, open the f older in which you want to search, select Options > Find . Enter the search term, and select OK .
Note: When sendin g mess ages, your device may displa y Message Sent . This is an indica tion that the message ha s been sent by your device to the message center num ber programmed in to your device. This is not an indication that the message has been received at the intend ed destination.
• Reply via same ctr. — Select whether you want the reply message t o be sent using the same text message center number (network service). Picture messages Note: Picture messag e function can be used only if it i s supported b y your net work operat or or servi ce provider.
1. In the To field, press th e joystick to s elect recipi ents from Contacts , or en ter the recipients' mobile phone numbers or e-mail addresses manuall y. 2. In the Subject field, enter a subject for the message. To change the fields that are visible, select Options > Address fields .
Tip: To save the mess age in Drafts without sending it, sele ct Done . Receive and reply to multimedia messages Important: Multimedia message objects may contain viruses or otherwise be har mful to your device or PC. Do no t open any a ttachment if you a re not sure of the trustworthiness of the sender.
To save a media object in its cor responding applic ation, scroll to the object, sel ect Options > Save . To send a media object to compatible devices, scroll to it, and select Options > Send .

Before you can send, receive, retri eve, reply to, and forward mail on your device, you mu st also do the following: • Configure an Internet access point (IAP).
Select your default mailbox If you have defined sever a l mailboxes, you can select one of them as your defaul t mailbox. To defi ne the default mailbox, select Options > Settings > E-mail > Mailbox in use and the mailbox.
Some options require you to connect to your remo te mailbox. Tip: To subscribe to other fol ders in your remote mailbox, select E-mail settings > Retrieval settings > Folder subscriptions . E -mail in all subscribed folders i s updated when you retrieve e-mail fr om your remote m ailbox.
E-mail folders If you create su bfolders in your IMAP4 mailbo xes on a remote server, you can view and manage these folders with your device. You can on ly subscribe to folders in your IMAP4 mailboxes. Sub scribing to folders in a remote mail box allows you to view those fol ders on your device.

If you use the POP3 protocol, e-mail messag es are not updated au tomatically when you are o nline. To see the latest e-m ail messages, you must disconnect a nd make a new connection to your mailbox .
• E-mail to re trieve (for POP3 mailboxes only) — Select whether you want to retrie ve only the e-mail header information such as sender , subject and date, e-mail, or e-mail with atta chments. • Retrieval amount — Select the number of e-mails you want to retr ieve from the remot e server to your mailbox.
Search IM users or IM groups To search for IM users and user IDs, select IM contacts > Options > New IM contac t > Search . You can search by User's name , User I D , Phone number , and E-mail address . To search for IM grou ps and group IDs, select IM groups > Options > Search .
To remove an IM group, pr ess the clear key. Ban from groups Scroll to the IM group, and select Options > Group > Settings > Banned list . To prevent IM users from joining the group, select Options > Add to banned list and from the following: • From IM contacts — Ban one or several of your IM contacts.
To prevent receiving messages from other IM users, select Opt ions > Block n ew contacts . Select the IM user from your IM contacts, or enter the user ID. Settings Selec t Options > Settings > IM settings . Select from the following settings: • Use screen name — To change the name that identifies you in IM groups, select Yes .
Send service commands Send a service request message to your service provider and request activati on for certain netwo rk services. To send a service request to yo ur service provider, select Options > Service co mmand . Enter the service request as a text message, and select Options > Send .
Connectivity Copyright protections may prevent some im ages, music (including ringing tones), and other content from being copied, modified, transferred or forwarded. Your device of fers several option s to connect to the Internet, a corpor ate intranet, or to another device or PC.
• Access point name — Enter the nam e for the access point. The name is usually provided by your service prov ider or network opera tor. • User name — Enter your user name if required by the service provider. User names are often case-sensitiv e and provided b y your servi ce provider.
Cable connection Install the USB data cable driver to your PC before you use a cable connection. You can use the Data transfer without installing the USB data cable drivers. Selec t Menu > Connect. > Data cbl. . Using a USB data cable, you can connect your device to a compatible PC .
Since devices using Bluetooth technology communicate using radio wave s, your device and the other devices do not need to be in direct lin e-of-sigh t.
Tip: If you have sent data using Bluetoo th before, a list of the previous search results is display ed. To sear ch for more Blue tooth devices, select More devices . 3. Select the device with which you want to connect, and press the joyst ick to set up the conn ection.
Authorize a device If you trust a pair ed device, you can allow it to connect automatically to your d evi ce. You can select from the following o ptions: • Set as authoris ed — Connections between your device and the other device can be made without your knowledge.
7. Authorize the car kit dev ice. Select Menu > Connect. > Bluetooth , and scroll to the Paired device s page. Scroll to the car kit device, and enter the Bluetooth passcode.
information is sent in sh ort bursts of data over the mobile network. The benefit of se nding data in packets is that the network is occupied only when sending or receiving data. As GPRS uses the network efficiently, it allows for quick data connection set-up an d fast data transmission speeds.
Tip: A wireless LAN connection is established when you crea te a data connection using a wireless LAN Internet access po int. The active wireless LAN connection is en ded when you end the data connection. Your device enables different types of communication in a wireless LAN.
Search for wireless LAN To search for wireless LANs avai lable within range, select Menu > Connect. > Conn. mgr. > Availab. WLAN . A list of found netw orks is disp layed.
To use VPN with an application, the application must be associated with a VPN access point. A VPN access point is made up of an Internet a ccess point and a VPN policy. To manage VPN, select VPN management > Options > Open and from t he followin g options: • VPN policy — Install, view, and update VPN policies.
Web Select Menu > Web (network servi ce). Web is one of the two browsers in your devi ce. With Web , you can browse regular Web sites. These pages use the extensible hypertext markup language (XHTML) or hypertext markup la nguage (HTML). If you want to browse WAP pages, use Menu > Media > Services .
• Press 1 to open your Bookmarks . • press 2 to find text. • Press 3 to return to the previous page. • Press 5 to swit ch between your open browser windows . • Press 8 to open page overview. • Press 9 to go to a differ ent Web page. Bookmarks Your device may hav e some bookmarks loa ded for sites not affi liated with Nokia.
Disconnect ; or to end the connecti on and close the browser, select Options > Exit . Clear the cache A cache is a memor y location tha t is used to s tore data temporarily. If you have tried t o a c c e s s o r h a v e a c c e s s e d confidential information requiring pas swords, empty the cache after each use.
(for example, to retain the items you buy until you reach the cashier page). However, the infor mation may be misused (for example, yo u may receive unwanted advertisements in your device). • Java/ECMA script — Some Web pages may include program commands that affect the appearance of the page or interactio n between the page and its browsers.
Media applications Copyright protections m ay prevent some im ages, music (including ringing tones), an d o ther content from being copied, modified, transferred or forwarded. Select Menu > Media . Media contains differ ent media ap plication s that al low you to save a nd view images, record sounds, an d play sound clips.
To open the next or previo us i mage for viewi ng, scroll right or left in the image viewer . To enlarge the viewed imag e on the display, select Options > Zoom in , or press 5 or 7 . To reduce the viewed image on the display, select Zoom out or press 0 .
RealPlayer attempts automa tically to reco nnect to the Internet access point. To save a media clip, select Options > Save , scroll to a folder in device memory or on a me mory card, and select Save . To save a link to a media file on the W eb, select Save link .
Music player Warning: Do not hold the device near your ear when the loudspeaker is in use, because the volume may be extremely loud. Selec t Menu > Media > Music player . With the music player, you can play mu sic files and create and listen to trac k lists.
You cannot use other functions of Music player while Equaliser is open. With Equaliser , you can enhan ce or diminish frequencies during music playback and modify how your music sounds. There are preset frequency settings in your device, for example, Classical and Rock .
To send a flash file to compatible devi ces, scroll to it, and press the cal l key. Copyrigh t protection may prevent the sending of some flash files. To switch bet ween flash fi les saved on your device memory or memory card, sc roll left or right . The available options may vary.
Camera When taking and us ing images or video clips, ob ey all laws, and respe ct local cus toms as well as privacy and legitimate rights o f others. You can take photos or reco rd video clips with the built- in camera. The camera lens is on the back of the device, and the display works as a viewfinder.
Insert pictures into messages When you are creating a ne w multimedia message, you can open the camera to insert a new p icture into the message. To insert a picture into a multimedia message, select Options > Insert new > Image . The viewf inder shows you the image to be captured.
Office applications Select Menu > Office . Some office applications ar e not available in all languages. Opening a large file may not be possible or it may take a while. File manager With File mgr. , you can manage the content s and properties of files and folders.
Edit documents To be able to edit a document, you must activ ate the edit mode: select the middl e view and Options > Edit document . Select Options > Format , and the appropriat e formatting op tion. For example, you ca n add bold, italic, and underline forma tting, change t he font size and color, and add bullets.
Find text To find a piece of text from the d ocument, select Options > Find , enter the text in the Find: field, and press the joystick. To change search options such as ca se sensitivity and search direction, select Options > Search options . Table editor You can view tables crea ted in applications, like documents and MS Word.
Work with cells To insert cells, select the area where you want to i nsert new cells and Options > Cells > Insert . You can insert cells above ( Shift cells down ) or to the left ( Shift cells right ) of the selected range. If you select only one cell, only one new cell is inser t ed.
To create a new presentation, select Options > New file . Select Blank to create a new presentation witho ut using a temp late or Use template to create a presentation based o n an existing template. View slide shows To start a slide show, select Options > Presentation .

Settings Selec t Menu > Tools > Settings . You can define and modify various setting s of your device. Modifying these sett ings affects the operation of your device across severa l applications. Some settings ma y be preset for t he device or sent to you in a configuratio n message by your net work operator or service pr ovider.
• Navigation key right , Navigation key left , Navigat. key down , Navigatio n key up , Selection key — Change the shortcuts that open when you scroll to differ ent directions. These settings are not available if yo u select Activ e stan dby > On .

Access point groups Select Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > Access point groups . An access point group is used for grouping and prioritizing access points. An application can use a group as a connecti on method instead of a singl e access point.
VPN VPN access points To manage VPN access points, sel ect VPN > VPN access points > Option s , and from the followi ng: • Edit — Edit the selected acce ss point. If the access point is in use or its settings are protected, you cannot edit it.
• Radio measurements — Enable or disable the radio measurements. To restore all settings to their original values, select Options > Restore defaults . Security settings fo r wireless LA N access points WEP security settings Select Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > Access points .
The settings available for editing m ay vary. WPA security settings Selec t Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > Access points . Select Option s > New access point , or se lect an access point and Options > Edit . In the access point settings, select WLAN security mode > WPA/WPA2 .
Configurations To view and delete configurations fo r trusted servers, select Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > Configs. . You can receive messages from your net work operator, service provider, or company informatio n management that contain configurat ion settings for trusted servers.
Organiser Selec t Menu > Organiser . Organiser includes tools that help you organize and manage the details of differ ent events in your per sonal and business life. Calendar Selec t Menu > Organiser > Calendar . In Calendar , you can create and view scheduled events and appointments.
To mark a task as completed, sc roll to the task in the to- do list, and select Options > Mark as done . To restore a task , scroll to it in the todo list, and select Options > Mark as not done . Calendar views To switch between the diff erent calendar views, select Options in any calendar view.

Landmarks are co ordinates to geogra phic locations that you can save to your de vice for later use in different location-based services.

Create a synchronization profile To create a profile, select Options > New sync profile and select from the following options: • Sync profile name — Enter a name for the profile. • Applications — Select the a pplications to synchronize with the profile.
Personalization Profiles Warning: In the offline profile you cannot make or receive any calls, includ ing emergency calls, or use other featu res that require network coverage . To make calls, you mu st first activa te the phone funct ion by changing profiles.

Shortcuts Here are some of the avai l able keyboard shortcuts in your device. Shortcuts can make the use of the applications more effic ient. Some shortcuts are application-specific a nd they are not available for all applicatio ns. Active standby mode Left selection key + * Lock and unlock the keypad.

Battery information Your device is po wered by a recharg eable battery . The full performance of a new battery is achieved only after two or three complete charge and discharge cycles. The battery can be charged and discharged hundr eds of times, but it will eventua lly wear out.
Care and maintenance Your device is a product of superior design a nd craftsmanship and should be treated with care. The suggestions be low will help you protect your warranty coverage. • Keep the device dry. Precip itation, humidity, and all types of li quids or mo isture can cont ain mine rals that will corro de electronic circuits.
