1. With the back of the device fa cing you, p ress and hold the release button, a nd lift up the cover. 2. To release the SIM card holder, lift the holder up using the handle . 3. Insert the SIM card into the card holder. Ensu re that the bevelled corner on the card is facing toward the slot, an d that the contact area o n the card is facing down.

To access the Welcome ap plication later, press , and select Tools > Utilities > Welcome . You can also access the individual appl ications from their menu locations.
Synchronise, retriev e, or send content After the first tran sfer, select from the following to start a new transfer, depending on the model of the other device: to synchronise content be tween your Nokia N96 and the oth er devi ce, if the other device supports synchronisation.
You have missed calls. The ringing type is set to silen t, and the message alert tone and e-mail alert tone are set to off. A timed profile is active. The devi ce keypad is locked. A clock alarm is active. The second phone line is being used (network service).
Shortcuts When in the menus, instead of using the scroll key, you can use the number keys, # , and * to quickly access the applications. For example, in the ma in menu, press 2 to open Messaging, or # to open the application or folder in the corresp onding location in the menu.

N-Gage About N-Gage N-Gage is a mobile gaming platform a vailable for a range of compatible Nokia mobile devices. You can access N-Gage games, players, and content through the N-Gage application on yo ur device. You can also download games and access some features on your computer at www.
Get started Create a player name You can download, purchase, and pla y games without a player name, but creating one is recommended. A player name enables you to participate in th e N-Gage community, connect with othe r players, and sha re your gaming achievemen ts, recommendat ions, and reviews.
Play and manage games To play and manage the games downloaded and installed on your device, select My Games . The games are sorted by the last -playe d date with the most recent first. There are five possible ty pe s of games in My games: ● Full games — These are games you have purchased with a full licence.

Personalise your device You can personalise your device by ch anging the standby mode, main menu, tone s, themes, or font size. Most of the personalisation options, such as changing the font size, can be accessed through the devi ce settings. See "Personalisation settings" , p.
Tip: To switch between the general an d silent profiles in the st andby mode, press and hold # . To modify a profile, scroll t o the profile, and selec t Options > Pers onalise . Scroll t o the setting you want to change, and press the scro ll key to open the choices.
Modify the standby mode To change the look of the standby mode, press , and select Tools > Settings > General > Personalisation > Stand by mode > Standby theme . The active standby display shows application shortcuts, and events from applications such as calendar and player.
TV and video Nokia Video Centre With Nokia Video Centre (n etwork service), you can download and stream video clips over the air from compatible internet video services using pack et data or WLAN. You can also transfer video clips from a compatible PC to your devi ce and view them in Video Centre.
Downloads continue in the ba ckground if you exit the application. The downloaded video clips are saved in My videos . To stream a video clip or view a downloaded one, select Options > Play . When the video clip is playing, to control the video player, use the media keys.

Recording may fail if the D V B-H network (digital TV) is not available or the reception signal is too low. Recorded TV programmes are stored in My v ideos. See "My video s" , p. 41 . Subscribe to channels and programmes Some TV channels and programmes may require you to purchase a subscription.

For all applications othe r than the folders in Photos , the TV screen displays what is displayed on the screen of your device. The opened image is displayed in full-screen on t he TV. When you open an image in the thu mbnail view while it is viewed on the TV, zooming in is not available.
Music folder Music player Warning: Listen to music at a moderate level. Continuous exposure to hi gh volume may damage your hearing. Do not hold the device nea r your ear when the loudspeaker is in u se, because the volume may be extremel y loud. Music player supports files formats such as AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, MP3, and WMA.
To fast forward or rewind, press and hold or . T o g o t o t h e n e x t i t e m , press . To return to the begin ning of the item, press . To skip to the pre vious item, press ag ain within 2 seconds after a song or podcast h as started. T o s w i t c h r a n d o m p l a y ( ) on or off, sel ect Options > Shuffle .
4. If you sel ect Yes , select artists to find the songs you want to include in the playlist. Press the scroll key to add items. To show the song list under an artist title, scroll right. To hide the song list, scroll left. 5. When you have made your selections, select Done .

Nokia Podcasting With the Nokia Podc asting applic ation ( network service), you can search, di scover, subscri be to, and download podcasts over the air, and play, manage, and share audio and video podcasts with your device. Podcastin g settings Before using Nokia Podcasting , set your connection and download settings.
Search podcasts Search helps you to find podcasts by ke yword or title. The search engine uses the podcast search service you set up in Podcasting > Option s > Settings > Connection > Search service URL . To search for podcasts, press , select Mu sic > Podcasting > Search , and enter the desired keywords.
When you receive a message with an .opml file using Bluetooth connec tivity, open the file to save the file into the Received f o l d e r i n d i r e c t o r i e s . O p e n t h e f o l d e r to subscribe t o any of the link s to add to your podcast s.

Your device can d i splay the identity n ame of the FM station to which you are tuned if the name is being transmitted by the station. Nokia Internet Radio With the Nokia Internet Radio application (network service), you can listen to available radio stations on the internet.
To add a station manually to favourites, select Options > Add stat ion manually . Enter the web address of the station and a name that you want to appear in the favourites li st. To add the currently playin g station to favourites, select Options > Add to Favourites .

Camera About the camera Your Nokia N96 has two cameras. The ma in, high- resolution camera (up to 5 megapixels), is on the back of the device. The secondar y, lower resolution camera is on the front. You can u se both cameras to capture images and record videos.

Scenes Scenes are only available in the main camera. A scene helps you to find the right colour and lighting settings for the cu rrent environment. The settings of each scene ha ve been set ac cording to a certain style or environ ment. The default scene in t he image mode is Auto , and in the video mode Automatic (both indicated with ).
To set the self-t imer delay, in the activ e toolbar, select Self timer > 2 seconds , 10 seconds , or 20 seconds . To activate the self-timer, select Activa te . The device beeps when the timer is running and the quadrangle blinks just before the image cap ture.

The availab le settings vary depending on the selected camera. The setup settings are shooting-mode sp ecific. Switching between the modes does not reset the defined settings. The setup settings r eturn to the default settin gs when you close the camera.
Photos About Photos Press , select Photos and from the following: ● Captured — to show all the photos and videos you have taken ● Months — to show photos and v ideos categorised by the month t.
To see where an image marked w ith was captured, select Options > Sh ow on map . View and edit f ile details To view and edit image or v ideo properties, sele ct Options > Details > View and edit and from the following: ● Tags — Contains curren t ly used tags.

To change the defaul t printer, select Options > Settings > Default pr inter . Print preview After you select the p rinter, the selected images are displayed using predefined lay outs. To change the layout, scroll left or right to browse through the available lay outs for the sele cted printer.

Gallery To access your images, video clips, and songs, or store and organise sound clips and streaming links, press , and select Applications > Media > Gallery . Main view Press , and select Applica tions > Media > Gallery , and from the following: ● Images — to vi ew images and videos in Photos.
Presentations With presentations, you can view SVG (scalable ve ctor graphics) files, such as cartoons and maps. SVG images maintain their appearance when printed or view ed with different screen sizes and resolutions. To view SVG files, press , and select Applications > Media > Gal lery > Presentations .
Home network About home network Your device is compatible with Universal Plug and Pla y (UPnP) and certified by Digital Living Network Alli ance (DLNA). You can use a wirele ss LAN (WLAN) access point device or a WLAN router to create a home network. Then you can connect compati ble UPnP devices that support WLAN to t he network.
Important security information When you configure your WLAN home network, enable an encryption method on your access point device, then on the othe r devices yo u in tend to connect to your home network. Refer to the documentation of the devices. Keep any passcodes secret and in a safe pl ace separate from the devices.
● Home access point — Select Always ask if you want the device to ask for the home access point every time you c onnect to th e home network, Create new to define a new access point that is used automatically when you use the home network, or None .

Positioning (GPS) You can use applications such as Maps and GPS data to find out your location, or measure distances and coordinates. These applications require a GPS connecti on.
When you activate A-GPS, your dev ice receives useful satellite information from a n assistance data server over the cellular network. W ith the he lp of assist ed data, your device can obtain the GPS position faster. Your device is preconfigured t o use the Nokia A-GPS service, if no service prov ider-spe cific A-GPS settings are avail able.
● Some vehicles have tinted (at hermic) windows, which may block the satellite signal s. Check satellite signal status To check how many satellites your device has found, and whether your device is receiving satellite signals, press , and select Tools > Connectivit y > GPS data > Positi on > Opti ons > Satellite status .

Media folder RealPlayer With RealPlayer, you can pl ay video clips or stream media files over the air without saving them to the device first. RealPlayer supports files with extensions such as . 3gp, .mp4, or .rm. However, RealPlayer does not necessarily support all file formats or al l the variations of file formats.

You can also browse web pages that are designed spec ifically for mobile d e vices, and use extensible h ypertext markup language (XHTML), or the wireless markup language (WML).

Content search To search for keywords, phone numbers, or e-mail addresses within the current web page, select Options > Find and the desired option.

Connections Your device offers several options to connect to the internet or to another co mpatible device or PC. Wireless LAN Your device supports wi reless loc al area networ k (WLAN). With WLAN, you can connect yo ur device t o the internet and compatible devices that have WLAN.
When the device is in t he o ffline profile, you can still use WLAN (if available). Remember to comply with any applicable safety req uirements when establishing and using a WLAN connection. Tip: To check the unique media access control (MAC) address that identi fies your device, enter *#62209526# in the standby mode.
You can also use connection manager to create internet access points. See "Activ e data connection s" , p. 111 . Operating modes There are two operating modes in WLAN: infrastructure and ad hoc.
Bluetooth connectivity About Bluetoo th connectivity You can make a wireless connection to other combatible devices, such as mobile phones, computers, head sets, and car kits, with Bluetooth connectivity.
● Remote SIM mode — To enable anothe r device, such as a compatible car kit enhancement, to use the SIM card in you r device to connec t to the network, sel ect On . See "Remote SIM mode" , p. 115 . Security tips Press , and select Tools > Bluetooth .

Remote SIM mode Before th e remote SIM mo de can be activat ed, the two devices must be paired and the pairing initia ted from the other de vice. Wh en pairing, use a 16-digit passcode, and set the othe r device as authorised.

Time management Clock Alarm clock Press , and select Applic ations > Clock . To set a new quick alarm, select Optio ns > New quick alarm . Quick alarms are set for the next 24 hours and they cannot be repeate d. To view your active and in active alarms, scroll right to the alarm tab.
Calendar Create a calendar entry Press , and select Applications > Calenda r . 1. To add a new calendar entry, scroll to the desired date, and select Options > New entry and one of the following: ● Meeting — to remind you of an a ppointment that has a specific date and time ● Meeting request — to create and send a new meeting request.
If the other device is not compat ible with Coordinated Universal Ti me (UTC), t he ti me informatio n of rece ived calendar entries m ay not be display ed correctly. Manage calendar entries To delete several events at a time, go to the month view, and select Options > Dele te ent ry > Before date or All entries .
