ix Network Services The wireless phone described in this guide is approved for use on the EGSM 900 and GSM 1800 networks. Dualband is a network dependant feature. Check with your local service provider if you can subscribe to and use this feature. A number of features included in this guide are called Network Services.

Getting started 1 1. Getting started ■ Keys The basic functions of the phone keys are described below . More information is given throughout this user ’ s guide. Po w er k e y (on top of the phone): Press and hold this key to switch the phone on or off.
Getting started 2 Other essential indicators Y ou have received a text or picture message. The phone does not ring or beep when you receive a call. The keypad is locked. The alarm clock is on. The timed profile is in use. All your calls are diverted. Y our calls are limited to a closed user group.
Getting started 3 4. Align the golden connectors on the battery with the corresponding connectors on the phone, and push the opposite end of the battery until it snaps into place (7).

Basic functions 7 Use Swap to switch between the active and held call while you have two calls in progress. Use End active call or End all calls to end the active call or both the active and held call while you have two calls in progress. ■ Listening to voice messages In standby mode, press and hold to call your voice mailbox.
Basic functions 8 ■ Writing text Y ou can key in characters in two ways: by pressing a letter key once for each character (predictive text input) or by pressing a letter key one or more times for each character (traditional text input). To exit from text input to standby mode, press and hold twice.
Basic functions 9 • If the ? character is shown after the word, no more words in the dictionary correspond to your keypresses. To add the word into the dictionary: Press ( Spell ), key in the word using traditional text input and press ( OK ). • If you want to change the previous word, press to select it and edit it.

Menu functions 11 3. Menu functions The phone offers a range of functions that allow you to tailor the phone to your needs. These functions are arranged in menus and submenus. ■ Accessing a menu function By scrolling 1. Press ( Menu ) in standby mode.
Menu functions 12 ■ Phone book (Menu 0 1) In this menu you can manage the names and phone numbers saved on the SIM card. To access this menu: In standby mode, press ( Menu ) and then ( Select ). T o a c c e s s t h i s m e n u d u r i n g a c a l l , press to change the text above to Options , press ( Options ), and select Phone book .
Menu functions 13 • Voi ce t ag s : Y ou can dial a phone number by saying one or more words ( ’ voice tags ’ ), for example a name, attached to it. Up to eight phone numbers in the phone book can have a voice tag at the same time. Y ou can also listen to, change, or erase the recorded voice tags.
Menu functions 14 ■ Messages (Menu 2) With the Short Message Service (SMS) network service you can send text and picture messages to phones which have SMS capability . In this menu you can write and read text and picture messages. Y ou can also listen to voice messages and change message settings.
Menu functions 15 2. When the message is complete, press ( Options ) to access the following functions that you can use for sending the message: Send , Send to many , Send by set . • Select Send to send the message to the desired recipient. Key in the recipient ’ s phone number and press ( OK ).
Menu functions 16 Viewing a message you have saved (Outbox - Menu 2-3) In the Outbox menu you can view the messages that you have saved in the Write messages menu (Menu 2- 1). Pressing ( Options ) allows access to the same functions as in Inbox (Menu 2-2), except for Reply , Chat , and Details .
Menu functions 17 Templates (Menu 2-5) Y ou can view , edit, and erase the preset messages ( ’ templates ’ ) that are available for writing a message. Scroll to the template you want to use and press ( Read ) . T o e d i t o r erase the template, press ( Options ) and select the desired function.
Menu functions 18 Common (Menu 2-7-2) 1 The settings in this submenu apply to all text messages that you send, irrespective of the chosen set. The available settings are: Delivery rep ort s , Reply via same centre , Character support . • Select Delivery reports to request the network to send delivery reports on your messages (network service).
Menu functions 19 Erasing messages (Menu 2-1 1) Y ou can delete read text messages from the Inbox menu, all text messages from the Outbox menu or both ( All read ). ■ Chat (Menu 3) Chat is a fast way to have a conversation using text messages. To access this menu: In standby mode, press ( Menu ), scroll to Chat , and press ( Select ).
Menu functions 20 When you press ( Options ) in the Missed calls , Received calls or Dialled numbers menu, you can view the date and time of the call and edit, view or call the registered phone number , save it in the phone book or delete it from the list of registered phone numbers.

Menu functions 23 • Phone line in use : With this network service you can select the phone line (that is, subscriber number) 1 or 2 for making calls, if supported by your SIM card. Calls on both lines can be answered regardless of the selected line.
Menu functions 24 • Call barring service : With this network service you can restrict calls that are made and received with your phone. Select one of the barring options and set the option on ( Activate ) or off ( Cancel ), or check whether the barring option is activated ( Status ).
Menu functions 25 Keylock settings (Menu 6-5) Y ou can set the phone to automatically lock the keypad if the phone is not used for a certain length of time and it is in standby mode. See also ” Locking the keypad ” on page 7. To turn on the automatic keylock: Scroll to On and press ( OK ).

Menu functions 27 Currency conversion in standby mode In standby mode, key in the amount that you want to convert (press for a decimal point, shown as an asterisk). The exchange rate that you have set in this menu is used. Press or twice. Press ( Convert ).
Menu functions 28 When the alarm time is reached, the phone sounds an alarm tone and flashes the text Alarm! . Stop the alarm by pressing any key . If you press ( Snooze ), the alarm stops for a few minutes and then resumes, if you do not press ( Stop ).

Menu functions 30 To activate a profile quickly in standby mode or during a call: Press the key quickly , scroll to the desired profile and press ( OK ). ■ Picture editor (Menu 13) Y ou can draw new pictures or edit the preset pictures available in the phone.
Menu functions 31 • Select Colour to change the colour of the line you are drawing. To change the colour quickly , press . • Select Insert to add a line, rectangle, circle, text or clipart to the picture. Use the number keys to draw a line, rectangle or circle.
Battery statements 32 4. Battery statements ■ Charging and Discharging Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable battery . Note that a new battery's full performance is achieved only after two or three complete charge and discharge cycles! The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of times but it will eventually wear out.
