3 2. Battery and Signal Your phone is powered by a rechargeable battery. Use only b atterie s approv ed by th e phone m anufact urer and recharge your batte ry only with the chargers approved by the manufacturer. See “Important Battery Information” on page 6.
4 T o Charge the Battery Plug th e charger i nto a sta ndard AC wall outl et then connect the connector to the bottom of your phone. When cha rging st arts the ba ttery segmen ts scroll and the phone b eeps once . You can use the ph one durin g the cha rging, but the charging will be reduced for the duration of the call .
5 Talk and Stan dby Times Battery operation times depend g reatly on how you use the batteries, as well as on the coverage of the network and network parameters s et by the cellular servic e provider .
6 Important Battery Information • Use only bat terie s and chargers ap pro ved by the phone ma nufactur er . • When a charger is not in use, disconnec t it fr om the power sour ce. Do not l eave the batt ery connect ed to a c harger f or longe r than a week; over charging may shorten its l ife.
7 • The battery can be charged and disch arged hundre ds of times but it will eventua lly wear out. When the operat ing time is no ticeably sho rter than nor mal, it is time to bu y a new b atte ry . • Do not dispose of a battery in a fi re! • Dispose of use d batter ies in accor danc e with any loca l regulati ons.
8 3. The Basics Switching On/Off Press and hold the po wer key for o ne second to switch the phone on or off. IMPORTANT! Do not switch on the phone when ce llular phone us e is pro hibi ted or whe n it may cause interfe rence or dan ger. Making a Call If yo ur phone has an extendabl e antenna , extend th e antenna ful ly.
9 To make a call w hile you have a call in progress: Enter the phone numbe r or recall the number from the memory and press . This puts the current ca ll on hold and dials the new call. Note: You can do this only if you have subscr ibed to this network service.
10 If you have set R inging Volume to SILEN T SERVICE , the phone ’s lights fl ash and the pho ne makes a short bee p. You can answ er a call any ti me, even whi le using the Keyguard, memory or m enu functions.
11 Last 10 Dialed Number s Clear t he display then pre ss . Press W until you see the number you want. Then pre ss to d ial it. The phone stores the last 10 phone numbers you called or at temp ted to call. Th is list r emains in the phone 's memor y when the phone is switched off.
12 If you have stored your voice mailbo x number in location 1, you can simply press and hold to call your voice mailbox. Otherwis e, dial your voice mailbox number to listen to yo ur message s. 9 Key Emergency Dialing Press and hold for more than 4 seconds.
13 Answer ing a call with Ke yguard active Press . Durin g the cal l, the keypad remains u nlocked and th e phon e can be us ed no rmally. After th e call is end ed, Keyg uard automa ticall y becom es act ive ag ain. The phone cannot be s witch ed of f when Keyg uard is activ e.
14 CARD CALL r emains on the display unt il the access number has been sent to the network. The phone asks you to WAIT FOR PROMPT . 3) After the ton e or voice prompt, press . CARD CALL r emain s on the dis play; the phone ask s you to a gain WA IT FOR PROMPT .
15 The phone displays PIN CALL . 2) After you hear a tone, pr ess again. W ait for your call to be connec ted. Note: If you’re in a net work that doesn’t support PIN Calls, but your phone has PIN Call On, the phone tries to se nd a PIN anyway. To stop t his, make the call as usual , then press to end the PIN Call atte mp t.
16 4. The Phone Directory Your phone ca n stor e: • up t o 40 names and numbers in its directory • one addit ional number in a “notepad”, which is erased wheneve r you swit ch of f the phone Stored names c an be u p to 16 characters long and numbers ca n have up t o 32 digits.
17 The identical name may be used only once in memor y. REPLACE NAME? appears when you try to store a name already in memory. T o Store Number s and Na mes Quick Stor e 1) Clear the displ ay, then enter the ar ea code and pho ne num ber . 2) (Optio nal:) Press then enter the name.
18 Menu Method 1) Press Wý . The phone prompts you for a nam e: 2) En ter a na me th en press . If you don’t w ant to stor e a name, just press at the prompt.
19 For more information on the use of “pause” and “wait” characters, see “Automaticall y Sending Touch Tones” on page 40 . Notes abou t Storing Numbers REPLACE NAME? This appears if the name is already in use. The phone displays the number (in the upper right hand corner) of the location where it is stored.
20 3) Press and hold . The phone gives you the prompt shown. 4) Press at the REPLACE NAME? prompt. See “To Recall Stored Numbers” on page 21 for more info rma tion .

22 5. The Menu When you press , you get this screen. Press W or V to scroll through the menus. Each menu allows y ou to see and c hange sp ecifi c phone settings. When you’re scrol ling through the menus, press when you see the menu you wan t. Use t he Wý or ýV key to scroll through the setti ng options of a menu.

24 Some menu funct ions descri bed below can be operated in several different ways. Only one alternative is described here, with reference s to alterna tive methods. Menu 1, Sto re T o Me mory You can store names and phone numbers in the phone with this menu.

26 With M enu 5, yo u tell the p hone whic h syst em to choose when you roa m (that is, try to use your phone in an area oth er than your “home” network). Your phone must choose which system to use (A or B) so it takes the informati on from your choice in Menu 5.
27 Depen ding on the p rogramme d inform ation, an d the actual network avail abil ity in the area wh ere you are using the p hone, select ing t he PREFER’D option has the effects d escribed below. Note: The PREFER’D option appears only if your service provider has programmed a list of preferred networks into your p hone .
28 1) Press WWWWWWý ý ý . (Or press 6 .) The phone shows how long you we re on the las t call in minutes and se conds. 2) Press Wý to scroll thr ough the other timers ( TOTAL 1 , TOTAL 2 , LIFE , and CLEAR TIMERS ). 3) T o clear time rs, pr ess whe n CLEAR TIMERS is on t he disp lay .
29 2) Press Wý to LIGHTS ON or LIGHTS OFF the n press . With Li ghts On If the phone i s in hand-porta ble mode o r conn ected t o a cha rger, the ligh ts com e on when you pres s a k ey, and stay on for 15 seconds. The lights also come on when t he pho ne ring s and stay on for 15 seco nds af ter the ph one ring s.
30 Menu 9, R inging V olume With t his menu you choose the ri nging volu me. As you scroll through the options RINGING HIGH and RINGING LOW , the phone rings so you c an hear wh at each se tting sou nds l ike. 1) Press ý 9 . The phone shows the current setting.
31 Menu 11, Emergency Key 9 This menu le ts you set the 9 key one-touch eme rgency dialing on or off. The default setting for the feature is EMERG. 9 ON . With EMERG. 9 ON , your phone dials the emergency number programme d into your phone when you pr ess and hold .
32 2) Press Wý to the NAM you want (if ther e are t wo avai lable ) then press . Note: If only one NAM is programmed into your phone, only tha t number ca n be selected f rom this menu. Note : The ph one can not u se both n umbe rs at the s ame time and you c annot c hange the number d uring a call.

34 Menu 14, Change Lockcode This le ts you ch ange y our ph one’s fo ur-di git lock code. 1) Press ý then press W until you get to CHANGE LOCKCODE t hen press . The ph one ask s you for your l ockcode. 2) Enter the l ockcode and press . If you enter an incorrec t lockcod e, the pho ne disp lays CODE ERROR and exits th e menu .
35 If you don't ans wer a ca ll, the message 1 CAL L MISSED or n CALLS MISSED will rema in on the di splay u ntil you press any key (excep t the on/off key) t o clear the display. 1) Wh en your phon e alerts you tha t you ha ve misse d calls, you can view t he numbers by scro lling to the CALL REGISTER menu, or by simply pres sing W or V .
36 To access the Debit menu, press then press V to go immediat ely to the De bit menu. Press W or V to scroll t hrough the m enu options. TIMETANK INFO shows you the amount of prepa id airt ime units you have lef t in your phone.
37 Maki ng a Cal l For complete i nformation on ma king a call, refer to “Making a Call ” on page 8. Once you have placed a ca ll your phone displa ys the charge rate of units per m inute as well as a ti mer which tracks the duration of the call ex pressed in min utes an d sec ond s.
38 Whe n you answer a ca ll you r phon e dis plays the ch arge rate of units per mi nute as well as a timer which trac ks the dur ation of the call ex pressed i n minutes and seconds. After th ree seconds the c harge rate of units per mi nute is repl aced by only the num ber of units rema ining in your phone (indi cated a s U).
39 NAM Se lect If y our phone i s in prep aid mode , you cannot change the NAM progr amming. For comple te inform ation on N AM selection, refer t o “Menu 12, NAM Select” on page 31.
40 6. Additional Features Sending DTMF (“T ouch ”) T one s Your phone is a “Touch Tone” phone. Touch Tones are the sounds your phone makes when you press the keys. Tou ch Tones can be used for many auto mated phone s ervic es such as check ing you r bank balance and using voice mailbox options.
