GLASS PARTS The device screen is made of glass. This glass can break if the device is dropped on a hard surface or receives a substantial impa ct. If the glass brea ks, do not touch the glass parts of the device or attempt to remove the broken glass from the device.

Insert the SIM card Important: T h i s d e v i c e i s d e s i g n e d t o b e u s e d w i t h a m i n i - U I C C S I M c a r d , a l s o k n o w n as a micro-SIM card only. A micro-SIM card is smaller than the standard SIM card. Use of incompat ible SIM ca rds may damage the card or the device, and may corrupt data stored on the card.
5 Make sure the contact area would face down, put the SIM into the h older, and lower the holder. 6 Slide the SIM holder to lock it. 7 Line up the battery contac ts, push the battery in, and replace the back cover. Remove the SI M 1 Switch the phone off.
1 Make sure the phone is switched off. 2 Place your fingernail in the gap on the bo ttom edge of the back cover, then carefully lift and remove the cover. 3 If the battery is in the phone, lift it out. 4 Slide the memory card holder to unlock it. Use your fi ngernail to lift the memory card holder.
6 Slide the memory card holder to lock it. 7 Line up the battery contac ts, push the battery in, th en replace the back cover. Remove th e memory card 1 Switch the phone off. 2 Remove the back cover. 3 If the battery is in the phone, lift it out. 4 Open the memory card holder, then pull the card ou t.
You can use USB cha rging when a wall outlet is not available. Data can be transferred while charging the device. The efficiency of USB charging power varies significant ly, and it may take a long time for charging to start a nd the device to start functioning.
Slide the lock key. Tip: To unlock, you can a lso press the menu key, and drag the lock screen left or right. Set how long before the keys an d screen lock 1 Select > Settings and Phone > Display > Screen/ke ylock time-o ut . 2 Set the length of time after which the keys and screen are locked automatically.

The antenna area is highlighted. Headset You can plug a compat ible headset or compatible headphones to your phone. Do not connect products that create an outp ut signal, as this may damage the device. Do not connect any voltage source to the Noki a AV connector.
• Connect to compat ible Bluetooth accessories that support NF C, such as a headset or a wireless loudspe aker. • Pay with your phone, if supported by your network service provider. • Touch tag s to get more cont ent for your phone or to access online services.
Disconnect the accessory Touch the NFC area of the accessor y again. For more information, see the user guide of the accessory. Switch the flashli ght on or off Need to find your way in the dark? Use the camera flash as a flashlight. Slide and hold the key lock switch for 2 seconds.
Use the user guid e in you r phone Your phone has a built-in user guide. It's always with you, available when needed. Select > User guide . Search the user guide When the user guide is open, select > Search , then write a letter or a word in the search field.
Touch screen actions To use your phone, tap or ta p and hold the touch screen. Important: Avoid scratching the to uch screen. Never use an actual pen , pencil, or other sharp object on the touch screen. Open an app or item Tap the app or item. Tap and hold t o see more options Place your finger on an item until the menu opens.
Example: You can drag items on th e home screen, or when arranging the main menu. Swipe Place your finger on the screen, then slide it in the direction you want. Example: To switch to another home screen, swipe left or right. To quickly scroll through a long list or menu , slide your finger quickly up or down the screen, then lift your finger.
Use short cuts You don't have to na vigate long paths to , for example, open or close an internet connection, or to silence your phone. You can access these settings di rectly in the status menu, no matter wha t applic ation or view you're in.
Applications running in the background increase the dema nd on ba ttery power and use memory. To close an ap plication th at you are not us ing, select . Tip: To close all open applications, select and hold the task switcher, and from the p op- up menu, selec t Close all .
Write with th e on-screen key board Switch the keyboard on You can use the on-screen keyboard bo th in landscape an d portrait mode. Select > Se ttings and Phone > Language > Writ ing language , and select the language an d Qwerty . The on-screen keyboard in port rait mode may not be a vailable in all writing langu ages.
Switch predict ive text o n or off Select > Settings and Phone > Language > Writing language , an d select a language and Word suggest ion . Use predicti ve text when writing 1 Start writing a word. 2 Your phone suggests possible words as you write.
Keys on the ke ypad 1 Character keys 2 Character/number mode key - Type in special characters or numbers. 3 Close key - Close the keypad. 4 Language key - Switch between writing languages. O nly shown when more than one language has bee n selected. 5 Space/enter key – Type in a space or move the cursor to the next row.
Use predicti ve text when writing 1 Start writing a word. 2 Your phone suggests possible words as you write. When the correct word is shown, select the word.
Icons shown on your phone General icons The touch screen and keys are locked. Someone has tried to call you. You have unread messages . If the message icon is blinking, your Inbox folder may be full. You have a missed calendar event. An alarm is set. Messages are waiting to be sent in the Outbox folder.
Network icons Your phone is connected t o a GSM network. Your phone is connected t o a 3G network. A WLAN connection is op en. A GPRS data connection is opening or closing. A GPRS data connection is o pen. A GPRS data connection is on hold. An EGPRS data connection is opening or closing.
Search your phone and the internet Explore your phone and th e internet. You can sea rch for mail, c ontacts, pho tos, music, or a pps stored on yo ur phone and on the internet. Select > Se arch . 1 Start writing a search word, then select from the proposed matches.
• Always charg e th e battery fully. • When power saving mode is on, phone settings, such as Network mode and the screen saver, are opti mised. Switch power savin g mode on Press the power key , then select Turn power saving on . To sw itch pow er savin g mode off, press the power key , then select T urn power saving off .
Set your phone to use only the GSM network Swipe down from the notification area, then select the mobile network and Network mode > GSM . Switch Bluetooth off when not needed Swipe down from the notification area, then select . Stop your phone scanning for available WLANs Swipe down from the notification area, then select .
You can also use your phone to view or ed it photos and videos , share them on the internet, or send them to comp atible devices. Tip: You can take photos even when your phon e screen and keys are locked. Press the camera key for 1 second to gr ab your photos on the fly.
1 Press the camera key halfway down to lock the focus on an object (not available in landscape or sports modes). A green locked focus indicator is shown. If the focus is not locked, a red focus indicator is shown. Release the camera key, make sure the object is within the brackets, and press the ca mera key halfway down again to lock the focus.
Take a close-up photo It can be tricky to get small objects, such as insects or flowers, in focus. You need to move the camera closer to the object. To take sharp and precise photos of even the tiniest details, use close-up mode. 1 To open the camera, press the camera key.
You can also use the volume keys t o zoom – you may find it easier to chan ge the zoom level. 4 To stop recording, press the camera key. The videos are saved in Gallery. To quickl y view the video you've recorded, select > . To view the previous photo or video, swipe right.
If the memory card gets slower over ti me, back up a ny important content on th e card, then use the phone to format the card. Send a photo o r video A picture can say more than words. Send a photo or vide o of that special moment or important info you need to get across in a multimedia or mail message, or using Bluetooth.
The location of the NFC area may vary. For more info, see the user guide of the other phone. Share a photo or video directly fr om the camera Want to share the best shots with your friends? Upload your photo or video to a social networking service right after taking it.
Using services or downloading content may cause transfer of la rge amounts of data, which may result in data t raffic costs. Set where to save phot os and vid eos If there is a memory card in your phone, you can set where to save the photos you take and videos you record.
Tip: To zoom in quickly, double-tap the screen . To zoom in fully, double-tap the screen again. To zoom back out, doub le-tap the screen once more. View the toolb ar Tap the screen. Play a video Select the video and . View the prop erties of a photo or v ideo Open the photo or video in full screen vi ew.
Edit or delete a tag Select and hold the tag, and select Rename tag or De lete tag . Add a tag Select and hold the photo you wa nt to have as the first photo i n the new tag group, an d select Add tag . Edit a photo yo u have taken You can do quick edits, such as crop, resize , fix contrast, and add effects to the photos you have taken.
Tip: If you're already signed in to a social networking service, you can share directly to that service. Select , tap the screen to show the toolbar, and select the service icon on the photo toolbar. When you share your photo or video for the first time, you may n eed to sign in to the social networking serv ice.
If you don't see anything on the TV screen, check that the TV is using the correct HDMI input. Move about on t he TV scree n Select the arrow icons on your phone screen. To select something, select the OK icon. View a photo o r play a video Select Videos or Photos , go to the photo or video, then select OK .
2 Connect the other end of the Nokia Video Connectivity Cable to the No kia AV connector of your phone. If you don't see anything on the TV screen , check that yo u have selected the correct input on the TV. 3 Select the photo or video on your phone.
Personalisation and Noki a Store Profiles About profile s Select > Settings > Prof iles . Waiting for a call but can't let your phone ri ng? You r phone has va rious settings groups called profiles, which you can personalise fo r different events and environments.
Tip: Want quick access to the profiles? Add a profile widget to the home screen. Set a timed pr ofile You can activate a profile un til a set time , after which t he previously used profile is activated. Select > Se ttings > Profiles . 1 Select the desired profile, and select Timed .
Tip: You can set a ringtone specifically for your profile. Select Ringtone . Change your theme Themes can freshen up your pho ne – change t he look and co lour scheme. 1 Select > Sett ings > Themes . 2 Select General and a theme. Tip: To download more themes from Nokia Store, select Download themes .
Tip: You can drag and drop items be tween different home screens. Add a new home screen Select > Add another home screen . Add a widget to the home screen You can add mini-applications (widgets) to your home screen, and see your most relevant information at a glance.
Add a shortc ut to the home s creen Did you know that you can create shortcuts to your most used applications a nd features? You can add shortcuts to applications or actions, such as writing a message. Tap and hold an empty area on the home screen, and from the pop-up menu, select Add shortcut and the application or action.
Remove a contact fr om the home screen On the home scree n, select and hold the contact, and select . The contact is removed from the home screen, but remains in your contacts list. Organise your apps Want to find your mos t used apps more quickly? I n the main menu, yo u can organise your apps into folders , hiding your least used app s.
You can search for and download content direct ly on your phone, or browse Nokia Store on your compatible computer and send link s to content to your phone as a text message. Some items are free of charge; others you need to pay for with your credit card or on your phone bill.
The content type determines where the item is stored in your phone. To change the default location, select > Installation prefer ences and where you want to store items. Tip: Use a WLAN connection to download larger files, such as games, apps, or videos.
Help us keep Nokia Store clean, and report if you find inappropriate content. Select Report abuse and the reason. Give addit ional details, if needed. Telephone Call a phone number 1 On the home screen, select , then type in the phone number. To delete a number, select .
Call a contact 1 Select > Contacts . 2 To search for a contact, select , then write the first letters or cha racters of the first or second name in the search field. 3 Select the contact. 4 In the contact card, select Voice call . 5 If the contact has more than one phone number, select the number you want to call.
Video calls are a network service, and to ma ke a video call, you need to be in a 3G network. For info on availability and cost s, contac t your network service provider. Video calls can only be made between two parties. Video calls cannot be made while another voice or video call is active.
If you do not start sending video, you only hear the voice of the caller. A grey sc reen replaces your own video. Start sending live video du ring a video call Select > Enable > Sending video . Replace the grey scre en with a photo 1 Select > Settings and Callin g > Call > Image in video call .
Have a private convers ation with one person in t he conference call Select > Show particip ants . Go to the person, then select . The conference call is put on hold on your phone. The ot her people continue the conference call. To return to the conference call, select > Conference .
Note: Using voice tags may be difficult in a noisy environm ent or during an emergency, so you should not rely solely upon voice dialling in all circumstances. When you use voice dialling, th e loudspeaker is in use. Hold the phone a short distance away when you say the v oice command.
Call back the conta ct or number Select the contact or number. View the mis sed calls list later On the home screen, press the call ke y, then open the missed calls tab . Call your vo ice mailbox You can forward calls to your voice mailbo x, where callers can leave you a message if you don't answer.
Contacts About Contacts Select > Contact s . You can save and organise you r friends' ph one numbers, addresses, and other contact information. If you want to keep in touch with your most important contacts easily, you can set them as favourites.
Save a number from a received me ssage 1 Select > Mess aging . 2 In the Conversation s list, select and hold a message, and from the pop-u p menu, select Save to Contacts . 3 Select whether you want to create a new contact list entry or update an existing one.
Select > Con tacts . 1 Select a contact. 2 Select next to the contact's n ame, then select Add image . 3 Select a photo from Gallery. Change or remove a photo Select the photo and Change image or Remo ve image .
Select > Contacts . Send your contact information as a business card 1 Select and hold My card , and from the pop-up menu, select Send as contact card . 2 Select the sending method. Edit your contact information in My Card 1 Select My card . 2 Select and the detail to edit.
To power up your social netw orking experience, use the Soci al app. When signed in to social networking services through the Social app, you can do the following: • See your friends' status up.
Link your online friends to yo ur contacts list You can link your online friends' profiles from social networking services to their contact info in your phone. After linking, you can vi ew their contact info di rectly from the Social app, and see their latest status updates in your contacts list.
Contact a friend from a so cial networking service When commenting your friend's sta tus is not enough, you can call or send a message to the friend. 1 Select > Social . 2 Select a friend's profile picture, then select the communication method.

Mail About Mail Select > Mail . You can automatically transfer ma il from your existing mail address to your phone, and read, respond to, and organise your mail on the go. You can a dd several mailboxes to your phone and ac cess them dire ctly from your home screen.
Tip: To quickly read new mai l, add a mail widget to your home screen. Tip: To zoom in or out, place two fingers on the screen, then slide them together or apart. Open or save an attachment Select the atta chment and Open or Save . If there is more than one attachment, you can save them all at once.
Send a mail Would you like t o send a mail w hile on the go? With your p hone, you can rea d and send mail, even when not sitting at your desk. Select > Mail and a mailbox. 1 Select . 2 Type in the mail address. To add a reci pient from your contacts list, select .
Add a mail widge t to the home scre en On the home screen, tap and hold an empty area, then select Add widget and the m ail widget. If you have more than on e mailbox, select which one to use. Tip: For a more compac t widget, show ing only the mai lbox name and when new mail has arrived, select Add widget > Mail, new arrival .
Switch between brows er windows 1 Select . 2 Swipe left or right, then select a window. A cache is a memory location th at is used to store data temporarily. If you ha ve, or have tried to, access confidential info or a secure service, requiring pass words, clear the cache after each use.
Set a feed to au tomatical ly update In the Web feeds view, select an d hold the feed, then select Edit > Automatic updates . Allow a website to use your location info Select > We b . Websites may ask to access your current loca tion info to, for example, personalise the info they show you.
Tip: NFC tags can also contain informat ion such as a phone number or business card. When you see a phone number in an advertisement th at supports NFC, to call the number, touch the tag. Entertainment Music player About the m usic player Select > Music player .
Tip: When listening to m usic, you can return to th e home screen, leaving the music playing in the background. Create a playlist Want to listen to different music for diffe rent moods? With pl aylists, you can create selections of songs to pla y in a specific order.
The music player s upports basic and enh anced LRC form ats, and also lyrics t hat are embedded in a song, using th e ID3v2 metadata format. This app is provided for personal us e of legally obtain ed content only. Play a podcast 1 Select > Musi c player .
Record sounds Select > Re corder . Record a sound clip Select . Stop recording Select . The sound clip is automa tically saved to the Sound files folder in the Files application. Send a recorded sound clip as an audio message Select > Send . FM radio About the FM radio Select > FM radi o .
Find and save radio stations Search for your favourite radio stations, and s ave them, so you can easily listen to them later. Select > FM radio . The first time you use the FM radio, the a pp auto matically searches for available radio stations. If no stations are found, you can set a frequency manually.

Stream content You can stream photos and videos on your ph one to another device th at supports DL NA, such as a TV. Use your phone t o stream content t o your DL NA device 1 Select > DLNA play and your DLNA device. If your phone can' t detect any devices, th ere might not be any renderer DLNA devices in your WLAN.
Tip: To quickly access the DLNA server, add the DL NA server widget to your home screen. To add, tap an d hold an empt y area on a home s creen, then select Add widget and the widget. Maps About Maps apps Maps shows you what is nearby and guid es you where you want to go.
Using services or downloading content m ay cause transfer of la rge amounts of data, which may result in dat a traffic costs. Contents of digital map s may sometimes be inaccurate and incomple te. Never rely solely on the content or the service for essentia l communications, such as in emergencies.
Change the voice guidance language for driving Voice guidance helps you find your way to a destination, leaving you free to enjoy the journey. Select > Drive . Select > Settings > Voice guidance and a language. Voice guidance may not be availa ble for your language.
You can also choose to allow or avoid using, for example, motorways, toll roads, or ferries. Walk to your destination When you need directions to fo llow a route on foot, Maps gu ides you over squares, and through p arks, pe destrian z ones, an d even sho pping ce ntres.
Voice guidance may not be availa ble for your language. Switch voice guidance o ff Select > Settings > Maps & Walk > Voice guidance > None . Find your way using Public Transpo rt Scheduling your jou rney using tram s, trains, an d buses can be ha rd – why not let your phone do the planning? 1 Select > Public Transport .
Find nearby stops and stations Don't know where the nea rest bus stop is? Publi c Transport finds nearby stop s and stations, and ch ecks the next departures for you.
If you browse to an a rea not covered by the street maps th at are stored on your phone, and you are connected to the internet, new street maps are automatically down loaded. Prevent downloading new street maps automatically 1 Select > Settin gs > General .
To download and update maps on your phone, you need an active WLAN connect ion. Download new maps 1 Select Add new maps . 2 Select a continent and a co untry, then select Download . Update map s Select Check for updates . Remove a ma p Select and hold a count ry, then confirm that you want to remove the map.
To return to the main pag e, select Guides . The service may not be available in your country. Weather Is it going to rain in the afternoon? How w arm will it be on Saturday? Use Weath er to check the current conditions or a forecast for the coming days.
Cell I D With network (cell ID) based po sitioning, Maps locates you through the cellular system your phon e is currently connected to. The availability and quali ty of GPS signals may be affected by .

Report incorrect map information If you notice that information on the map is incorrect or missing, report it to Nokia. Select a place from the map, its informat ion area at the top of the screen, and Report . The service may not be available for your country or region.
Snooze an alarm When an alarm s ounds, you can s nooze the al arm. This pauses the alarm for a defin ed length of time. When the alarm sounds, select Snooze . Set the le ngth of th e snooze time 1 On the home screen, select the clock. 2 Select > Alarm snooze ti me , and set the length of ti me.
The time in your phone is changed accordin g to the selected location. Make sure the time is correct. Tip: Want to remove a location quickly? In the world clock view, select and hold a location, and select Remove . Check the time in different cities To view the time in different locations, add them to your world clock view.
Tip: You can also add a calendar event in the da y view. Select and hold the starting t ime, and drag the arrows to set t he duration. Use separate calendars for work and free time You can have more than one calendar. Crea te one for work and another for your free time.

Write a note Notes on paper are easy to lose. Instead of writing them down, you can sav e your notes and lists on your ph one, so you always hav e them with you.
Select > Zip . Connectivity Connectivity security Nokia understands how important it is that your mobile phone or device operat es reliably and that your person al content is sa ved safely.
Display the microcellular (MCN) indica tor when in a microcellula r network Select Cell info display > On . The available settings may vary. Internet conne ctions Define how your phone conne cts to the internet Your phone automatically checks for and connects to a n available known network when a network connection is needed.
3 Tap the position in the list t o move the access point to. Keep track of you r data traffic To avoid surprises with mobile data costs, you can set your phon e to notify you or close the mobile data con nection wh en you have transferred a certain amount of data using your mobile data connection.
Important: Use encryption to increase the securi ty of your WLAN connection. Using encryption reduces the risk of others accessing your data . Note: Using WLAN may be restrict ed in some countries. Fo r example, in France, you are only allowed to use WLAN indoors.
Close the WLAN connection Swipe down from the top of the scree n, then select . VPN connections Select > Settings and Connectivity > VPN . You need a virtual private network (VPN) connection to, for example, browse your company intranet or access you r work mail remotely.
Bluetooth About Bluetooth Select > Sett ings > Connectivi ty > Blueto oth . You can connect wirelessly to other compat ible devices, such as phones, computers, headsets, and car kits. You can use the connection to send items from your phone, copy files from your compatible PC, and print file s with a compat ible printer.
Connect to a wireless he adset With a wireless headse t you can answer a call ev en if your phone is not directly at hand, and you can have your hands free, for example, to continue working at your computer during a call. Wireless headse ts are available separately .
3 Activate Bluetooth in the car kit accessory. When remote SIM mode is activated, Remo te SIM mode is displayed on the home screen. The connection to the wi reless netwo rk is closed, and you cannot use SIM card services or features that re quire cellular network coverage.
Tip: To quickly switch Bluetooth off, swipe down from the top of the screen, then select . Do not pair with or accept connection requests from an unknown device.
Media transfer — Connect your phone to a comp atib le computer that does not have Nokia Suite installed. Music protected by digital rights management (D RM) must be transferred in this mode. Some home entertainment systems and printers can also be used in this mode.
Phone management Keep your phone software and applicatio ns up to date About phone software and app updates Stay in step with th e beat – update your phone software and apps to get new a nd enhanced features for your phone. Updating the software ma y also improve your phone performance.
View update details Select and hold an update. Install all up dates Select . Select which u pdates to install Select > Mark updates and the updates you wan t to install.
