Y ou can also save pictures and r inging tones to personalize your phone. Y ou may also be able to receive polyphonic ringing tones.
[ 4 ] Before using (E)GPRS technology: • Contact your network operator or service provider for availability and subscription to the (E)GPRS service. • Save the (E)GPRS settings for each of the applications use d over (E)GPRS. [ 8 ] Use the antenna Y our phone has a built-in antenna. As with any other radio transmitting device, avoid touching the antenna unne cessarily when the phone is switched on. Contact with the antenna affects call quality and may cause the phone to operate at a higher power level than otherwise needed.
[ 9 ] W elcome and qu ick guide PROLONG THE BAT TERY Use the following guidelines to obtain the best performance from your battery: • With your phone turned off, charge your new battery for three hours before its first use. Use the battery until it is f ully discharged.
[ 1 0 ] REMO VE THE BA CK COVE R 1 With the back of the phone facing you, push down on the back cover release button. 2 Slide the back cover towar d the bottom of the phone and remove. REMO VE THE BA TTER Y 3 After you h ave removed the back cover , in sert your finger into the finger grip and lif t the battery from its com partment.
[ 1 1 ] W elcome and qu ick guide 3 Insert the SIM card into the holder (beveled corner last) with the gold contacts facing tow ard the top end of the phone. 4 Close the SIM card holder . 5 Slide the SIM card h older toward the top end of th e phone until it locks into place.
[ 12 ] Use the selection and scroll keys Below each corner of the display are the selection keys. Press b when Men u appears above it to show the first of numerous menus. P age through the rest of the menus using the up and down scroll keys ( d or g ).
[ 13 ] W elcome and qu ick guide For example, saving many images, bookmarks, Java applications, or other features sharing memory may take all of the shared memory and your phone may display a message that the memory is full. In this case, delete some of the information or entries stored in the shared memory features before continuing.

[ 18 ] 4 Basic operatio ns • SWITCH YOUR PHONE ON OR OFF War n in g : Do not switch the phone on when wirele ss phone use is prohibited or wh en it may cause in terference or danger . 1 To turn your phone on or of f, press and hold the power key ( a ) on top of the phone for at le ast 4 seconds until the display light comes on.
[ 19 ] Basic operations Use the contacts list 1 At the Start screen, press d or g an d scroll to the entry you wish to view . 2 Press h to make the call or press Details to view details of the entry .
[ 20 ] Adjust the earpiece volume • To increase the volume of a call, press the volume up key on the left side of the ph one. • To decrease the volume of a call, pr ess the volume down key on the left side of the phone. When adjusting the volume, a bar ch art appears in the display screen in dicating the volume level.

[ 22 ] • CHECK THE START SCREEN The Start screen is “home base” and indicates your phone is in idle mode. What’s on the Start screen HOME Y our wireless provider’s name ma y appear here. Signal strength A higher bar indicates a s tronger network signal.

Each main menu contains submen us and lists from which you can select or view items and customize phone fe atures. Y ou can access these menus and submenus by using the scroll method or by using a shortcut.

[ 29 ] Basic operations • SET UP YOUR PHONE Adjust display brightness 1 Press Menu 4-5-5 ( Se tting s > Display se ttings > Display bright ness ). After a brief pause, a bar chart appears in the display indicating the current brightness level.
[ 30 ] When you connect and th e prerecorded greeting be gins, follow the automated instructions to listen to your voice m essages. Use the optional headset The HDB-4 headset kit may be purchased with your phone or separately as an en hanceme nt.
[ 3 1 ] Text entry 5 T ext entry Y ou can use tw o method s for ent ering te xt and nu mbers. • The standard mode is the only way to enter names into the contacts list or rename caller groups. • Predictive text input is a quick and easy m ethod for writing messages or maki ng calend ar note s.
[ 32 ] Enter punctuation and special characters While at any text entry screen in standard mode, press s to display special characters. If predictive text is on, press and hold s to display special characters.
[ 33 ] Text entry 2 Scroll to the language of your choice and press Select . Predictive text is turned on. The predictive te xt icon ( ) appears in the upper left corner of the display . Note: The language setting in predictive text affects the time and date formats of the clock, alarm clock, and calendar .
[ 34 ] Add new words to the dictionary If you encounter a word that predictive text does not recognize, a question mark ( ? ) follows the word and Spell appears in the low er left of the display . •P r e s s Spel l , enter your new word using th e keypad, and press Save .
[ 35 ] Manage phone security 6 Manage phone security Lock the keypad (K eyguard) Remember to lock your phone keypad to prevent accidental calls. If the keypad is locked, it unlocks when you receive a call. Af ter the call, the lock automatically reactivates.
[ 36 ] 2 Enter the security code and press OK . 3 Scroll to Off , Memory , or Ph one and press Select . A message appears in the display c onfirming your selection • FIXED DIALING Once you setup and activate a fixed dialing list, your phone can make call s only to those numbers that you have defined in the fixed dialing list.
[ 37 ] Manage phone security 5 Enter a na me for the nu mber and pre ss OK . A c onfirm ation note appears in the display and you are returned to the fixed dialing number list. 6 Press Bac k , scroll to On , and press Select to activa te fixed dialing.
[ 38 ] • If you try to browse th e fixed dialing list, but have not stored any number s, Fixed dial ing lis t empty appears in the display . • Y ou cannot access SIM memory manually (view or copy numbers on the SIM card) wh ile fixed dialing is active.
[ 39 ] Manage phone security 3 Enter the new security code (u p to 1 0 characters) and press OK . Y ou ar e asked to re-enter the new security cod e for ve rification. 4 Enter the new security code again and press OK . A messa ge appears in the display c onfirming your security code has been changed.
[ 40 ] PIN2 Code The PIN2 code is required for feature s such as fixed dialing. If you enter an incorrect PIN2 code th ree times in succession, the PIN2 code is blocke d and you will have to enter the PUK2 code. Note: The original PIN2 code must be obtained from your wireless provider .
[ 4 1 ] Contacts 7C o n t a c t s Y our contacts list can sav e up to 500 names, with multiple numbe rs a nd text notes f or each name . The amoun t of numbers and text entrie s that you can save may vary , depending on their length and the total number of entries in the con tacts list.
[ 42 ] 2 Scroll to an item, and press Sel ect to activate the feature or enter its submenu. • SAVE CONTACT S Y ou can save contacts to phone memory or to SIM card memory . Quickly save a contact (name and number) 1 At the Start s creen, enter th e phone number you wish to sa ve.
[ 43 ] Contacts Save an entry using the contacts list 1 At the Start screen, press Conta cts , scroll to Add entry , and press Sele ct . 2 Enter a name using the keypad and press OK . 3 Enter a numbe r and press OK . 4 Press Done to return to the Start screen.
[ 44 ] Save multiple numbers and text items per contact Y ou can save different types of phone numbers and short text items per contact to the contacts list. The first number you save for any entry is automatically set as the default, or pri mar y number .
[ 45 ] Contacts Search for a name in the contacts list 1 At the Start screen, press d or g to dis pl ay t he contents of your contacts list . 2 Press the key which corresponds to the first letter of the n ame for which you are performing a search. 3 Press d or g to scroll up and down through contacts in th e list.
[ 46 ] • COPY CONTACT LIST ENTRIES 1 At the Start screen, press Conta cts , scroll to Copy , and press Sel ect . 2 Scroll to From ph one to SIM card or From SIM card to phone and press Sele ct . The following options appear in the display: 3 Scroll to the copy method of your choice and press Select .
[ 47 ] Contacts RECEIVE A BUS INESS CARD USING IR 1 Press Menu 12-1 ( Connecti vity > In frare d ) to ensure I R is activated. When you receive the business card, your phone beeps and a message appears in the display . 2 Select Save to save the business card in the ph one memory , or press Exit (or OK ) to discard the business c ard.
[ 48 ] Assign a key to 1-touch dialing 1 At the Start screen, press Conta cts , scroll to 1-touch diali ng , and press Sele ct . 2 Scroll to an y empty slot and press Assig n . 3 Enter the number (inclu ding the area code) and press OK , or press Fin d to retrieve a n umber from your contacts list and press Select .
[ 49 ] Contacts 2 Scroll to the 1-touch dialing location you wish to delete and press Opt ions . 3 Scroll to Delet e and press Sele ct . You are asked to confir m the deletion . 4 Press OK to delete the key assignment. • V OICE DIALING Y ou can dial up to 10 stor ed n umb ers in your contacts list using the voice dialing feature.
[ 50 ] DIAL A NUMBER USI NG VOICE DIALING Before using voice dialing, note that: • V oice tags are not language dependent. They ar e dependent on the spe aker’s voice . • V oice tags are sensitive to background noise. For best results, record them and make calls in a quiet e nvironment.
[ 5 1 ] Contacts WORK WI TH AN E XIS TING VOICE T AG After you have associated a voice tag to a command, you can choose one of the following options: Play back a voice tag 1 Press Con tact s and scroll to Vo i c e t a g s . 2 Press Sele ct , then scroll to the n ame with the voice tag you want to hear .
[ 52 ] • VIEW INFO, SERVICE, AND OWN NUMBERS Y our wireless provider may save the operating number of your phone, as well as various information and service numbers, to your SIM card. Note: This feature may not be suppor ted by your SIM card. If so, contact your wireless provider for more information.
[ 53 ] Contacts 2 Use the scroll keys ( d or g ) to highlight a group. Press Select to display the following ca ller group options: • SET UP A CALLER GROUP 1 At the Sta rt screen, press d or g to display a list of entries in your contacts list .
[ 54 ] 8 Menu functions Messages (Menu 1) If you have subscribed to a message service, you can send and receive SMS messages to compatible phones that are also subscribed to a message serv ice. Y ou can al so send and receive picture me ssages, MM S messages, and e-mail if supported by your n etwork.
[ 55 ] Menu fu nctions Choose your message type Y ou can choose the type of message sent by your phone. Types include text, e-mail, page, and fax. Note: This function can be used on ly if it is supported by you r wireless provider . The default message type is Te x t .
[ 56 ] • TIPS FOR COMPOSING A MESSAGE Predictive text input Predictive text allows you to qu ickly write messages using your keypad and the built-in dictionary . Y ou can use predictive text to write a message, create a calendar note, make a to- do list, and more.
[ 57 ] Menu fu nctions 2 Use the scroll ke ys ( d or g ) to view t he whole message if n ecessary . Tip: Keep scrolling to view other information, such as the sende r number and time the message was sent. 3 Press Exit to return to the Start screen, or pr ess Opt ions for othe r choices, such as Reply or Forward .
[ 58 ] If you chose to forward As e-mail , enter the recipient’s e-mail address, or press Find to retrieve the data from your contacts list then press OK . The e-mail i s forwarded. Set up a distri bution list Y ou can create distribution lists so that a single message can be sen t to multiple contacts at the same time.

The message is sent to all contacts in that distribution list. • PICTU RE MESSAGE S Note: This function can be used on ly if it is supported by you r network o perator or ser vice provid er .
[ 60 ] 2 If you have more than one picture message, scroll to the message of your choice and press Select to view the message. Note: When you have unopened picture m essages in your inbox, is shown in the upper left corner of the Start screen as a reminder .

[ 62 ] Write and send an e-m ail message Note: See “Tips for composing a message” on page 56 for ways to write messages faster . 1 At the Start screen, press Menu 0 1-1-3 ( Messages > T ext messages > Create e-mail ). After a brief pause, you are prompted to enter the e-mail address.

[ 64 ] Define MMS settings Before you can use the MMS feature, you need to first defin e the way you want to rec eive the mes sage s. ALLOW OR NOT ALL OW MULTI MEDIA RECEPTION Y ou can choose to receive all m essages or to receive messages only when you are in the ser vice provider’s home network.

[ 69 ] Menu fu nctions • V OICE MESSAGES If you subscribe to voice mail, your wireless provider will furn ish you with a voice mailbox num ber . You need to save this number to your phone to use voice mail. When you receive a voice message, your phone lets you know by beeping, displaying a message, or both.
[ 7 0 ] •P r e s s Menu 0 1-3-1 ( Mes sages > Vo ice mes sages > Listen to voice mess ages ). After a brief pause, your phone dials the voice mail number . Once you connect and the pr erecorded greeting begins, f ollow the automated instructions to listen to your voice m essages.
[ 7 1 ] Menu fu nctions Setup voice mail wi th dialing codes 1 At the Start screen, press Conta cts , scroll to 1-touch dialing , an d press Sele ct . 2 Scroll to an em pty 1-touch dialing slot a nd press Assign . 3 Enter your voice mailbox number , including the area code.
[ 72 ] 2 Scroll to highlight an option and press Select to activate the option or enter its submenu: • ORGANIZE MESSAGES WITH FOLDERS Save messages to folders Y ou can save messages to an existing folder or to a f older that you have created. 1 Press Menu 0 1-1-1 ( Messag es > Text messages > C reate message ).

See “My folders” on page 73 for in formation on creating your own folders. View saved messages 1 At the Start screen, press Me nu 0 1-1 ( Messages > Text messages ).
[ 74 ] RENA ME A F OLDER Only folders created in My folders can be renamed. The Inbox , Outbox , Archive , and Templ at e folders are pr otected. 1 At the Start screen, press Menu 0 1-1-7 ( Messages > T ext messages > My folders ). After a brief pause, the folder opens.
[ 75 ] Menu fu nctions • Read some of the unread messages and then de lete them. • Delete messages from some of your folders. Delete a single me ssage To delete a single message, you need to open it first. 1 Press Menu 0 1-1 ( Messag es > T ext message s ).
[ 76 ] OVERWRITE SETT INGS FOR TEXT, E-MAIL, AND P ICTURE MESSAGES When the message memory is full, your phone cannot send or receive any new messages. However , you can set your phone to automatica lly replace old messages in the Inbox and Outbox folders when new ones arrive.
[ 77 ] Menu fu nctions 3 Scroll to Allowed and press Select to replace the old messages with new ones in the Sent it ems or Inbo x f older , respectively . RECEIVE MUL TIMEDIA CONNECTION SETTIN GS AS A TEXT MESSAGE Y ou may be able to re ceive multimedia connection settings as a text message from your wireless provider .
[ 78 ] Call l og (Menu 2) The call log stores information about the last 20 missed, 20 received, or 20 dialed calls. It also adds the total duration of all calls .
[ 79 ] Menu fu nctions • VIEW MISSED CALLS Missed calls are calls that were never answer ed. You can check for mis sed calls in two ways: Note: The missed calls feature does not function while your phone is off or outside of the service area. 1 If # missed call appears in the display , press List .
[ 80 ] • VIEW DIALED NUMBERS Y ou can view dialed numbers in one of two ways: 1 At the Start screen, press h . Y our most re cently dialed numbers appear in the display . OR 1 At the Start screen, press Me nu 2-3 ( Call log > Di aled numbe rs ). After a brief pause, your m ost recently dialed numbers appear in the display (if a ny exist).

[ 82 ] Profiles (Menu 3 ) Profiles define how your phone reacts when you receive a call or a message, how your keypad sounds when you press a key , and more. Ringing option s, keypad tones, and ot her setti ngs for e ach of the fiv e available profiles can be left at their default setting, or customized to suit your needs.
[ 83 ] Menu fu nctions 4 Use the scroll keys to display each of the options in the following table: Note: Y ou ca nnot r ename the Normal profile. 5 Once you arrive at the option you want to customize, press Selec t . • SET A TIMED PROFILE Timed profiles can be used to prevent missed calls.
[ 84 ] 1 At the Start screen, press Me nu 3 ( Profiles ). After a brief pause, the list of profiles appears in the display . 2 Scroll to the profile you wish to activate and set for tim ed expiration, then press Select . 3 Scroll to Timed and press Select .
