1 1. Safety At A Glance Read these simple guidelines before using your phone. Failure to comply with these guidelines may be dangerous or illegal. For more detailed safety information, “Important Safety Information” on page 77 . Road Sa fe ty Come s First Don’t use a hand-held phone while driving; park the vehicle fir st.

3 2. Getting Connected This section will he lp you und erstand the in s and outs of charging and using y our battery. Attaching your battery Simply pla ce the ba tter y in the grooves on t he back of your phone. Then slide t he batter y upwa rd until it click s.
4 If your phone displays Not chargin g , charging is suspended. Check that the battery is connected on ly to an approved charging device. If the battery is very hot or c old, wait for a while; c harging wil l automa tically resu me after t he batte ry i s r e s t o r e d t o i t s no r m a l o p e ra ti n g t em p er at u r e .
5 Charging times depend o n the type of batte ry and charger u sed. For approximate charging and operating times, see “ Batteries” on page 72. Can you make calls while charging? Y es, you can. Bu t your batte ry may not char ge while a call is in progress (depending o n which ch arger you are using).
6 Important Battery Informatio n • The battery can be charged and discharged hund reds of times but it will eventually wear out. When the operating time (talk time and standby time) is noticeably shorter than normal, it is time to buy a new battery.
7 Cool Features Did you kn ow tha t you can lock t he keys o n y our phone to prevent accidental key presses and phone calls? Or that you can call someone w ith the touc h of a single button? You can also stop your phone from rin ging without even ans wering the call.
8 3. Using Y our Phone The first few days you have your phone , play with it to learn how th e men u an d su bme nu syst em work s. Th e more you le arn how t o access these menu s and submenus, the more fu n you’ ll have wi th your phone. This section describes the different meth ods of using your phone menus and submen us.
9 Scroll k ey Y ou r phone h as scroll keys located jus t below you r display . It has two arrows on it that look l ike V and W . Press the scroll key up or dow n to navigate through your phone’s me nus and su bmenus. You can also u se it to scroll through names and n umbers in your ph one book .
10 Menu and submenu numberin g When you scroll to a menu or s ubmenu, t he menu number and/or submenu number appears on the display above the scroll bar . If you become familiar with these numbers, you can use the m as shortc uts for ac cessing different me nus.

13 4. The Basics Y ou have purchased a powerful phone, with lot s of features. Read this sect ion for some v ery basic information on how to us e your p hone. A more comprehe nsive description of you r phone is covered in “Your Phone A to Z” starting on page 1 7.
14 If your phone is powered on and service is lost, the message Wait fo r serv ice will be displayed along wi th a scrolling bar . The phone w ill continue t o search for available servic e for 15 min utes at which time it wi ll display No serv ice if none is found.

17 5. Y our Phone A to Z ABC/abc mode This allows you to ente r upper and lower case alphanume ric characters into y our phone. This is necessary for e ntering names and numbers into your phone book, as well as editing any exi sting alphanumeric charac ters.

19 Automatic answer This is a set ting found in y our phone’s profile settings , under the Car an d Headset profiles ( see page 53 ). W hen this feature is turned on, your phone answe rs incoming voice calls after one ring.

32 Custom Tone This feature a llows you to assign spe cial ringing ton es to phone numbers already stored in y our phone book. So when your phon e rings, you’ll be able to quickly identify who’s calling. Y ou r phone will a lso displa y an icon to identify that t his person is in the cus tom tones list.
33 Data and fax calls Note: This featu re may n ot be available in a ll wireless networks. Contact your service provider for details and availability . Y our phone c an function as a fax/modem when connect ed to your PC or laptop computer via the optio nal data cable.
34 3. Press IMPORTA NT! This phone, like any wireless phone, operates using radio signals , wireless and landline networks, as well as user-programmed functions which cannot guarantee connection in all conditions. Therefore, you should never rely solely upon any wireless phone for essential communications (e.
35 IMPORTA NT! Official emergency numbers vary by locat ion (e.g. 911). Only one emergency number is programmed into your phone to be dialed automatically by Emergency key 9, which may not be the proper number in all circumstances.

37 Special Characters (for storing and calling numbers) The following special characte rs are he lpful when y ou store numbers to your phone book ( see page 50 ). Simp ly press th e key o nce o r repeat edly , and the fo llowin g characters can be stored wi thin the number seq uence.
38 Memory Reveal pictures to find pairs in as few tries as possible. Move th e cursor w ith the 2 ( up), 4 (left) , 6 (right) , and 8 (down) keys. Press the 5 key to re veal pictures . Pres s the # key to jum p right over revealed pictu res or move from bottom right to top left.
39 Dice Use this to play other ga mes that require a set of dic e if one i sn’t avail able. Use t he Level option to set the number of dice, up to six. You ca n roll, lock, and unlock each die as man y times as you wis h. When you s tart a new game, the dic e roll for a couple of seconds an d then stop.
40 In-ca ll me nu While you’re in a call, you may notice that Op tions appears on you r display . Pressing this key w ill acce ss you to the in-call menu, which allow s you access t o certain features w hile yo u have a call acti ve.
41 3. Highlight Customize and pre ss OK . Pr ess W to Keyp a d t on e s and press Selec t 4. Press W to scroll throu gh the options; your p hone plays a sample of each.
42 Life ti mer The life tim er displays the approximate total ti me of all calls dialed and received with your phone (in h ours and minutes only). The life timer cannot be reset. Press Me nu 2-5- 3 ( Call log - Call t ime rs - Life timer ) to view your phone’s life timer .
43 Lock code Y ou ’ll need t he lock code to activate an d deactivate Phone Lock ( see page 5 1 ), or to ch ange your lock c ode. T he default loc k code is 0000 . If y ou enter a n incorrect lock code five time s in a row , your phone will prompt you for the s ecurity code ( see page 60 ).
44 Memory status This feature allows you to see how many free and in-use memory location s are in you r directory . Also, see “Phone book” on page 49. Press Names , scr ol l to Opti ons an d pr e ss Select . Th en scroll to Mem or y s ta t us an d press Selec t again.
45 Microphone You can mute and unmute yo ur phone’ s microphone while a ca ll is in progre ss. During a c all, your ph one’s softkeys chang e from Name s and Menu to Opti ons and Mute . Muting and unmuting your phone Y ou can mut e the phone’s microphone durin g a call; simply press Mu te .
46 NAM sele ction The Number Assignmen t Module (NAM) is the ph one’s storage location containing the assigned ph one number and other system provider inform ation. This informa tion is entered when prog ramming your phone. Only one num ber can be active.
47 Storing feat ure cod es 1. Press Menu 4-4-4 ( Settings - Network se rvices - Netw or k feat ure se ttin g ) 2. At Feature code: , enter the feature code or dea cti- vation code received from y our dealer (e.g. ∗ 72, ∗ 73, etc.), press OK 3. W to the service t hat the code applies to and pres s Select 4.
48 Y ou must store names and nu mbers in your phon e book ( see page 50 ) before you can use this feature . Then you can assign a name from the phone b ook to a one-tou ch dial location using you r phone’s ke ys 2 through 8.

Then sc roll to the person you wish to call and press to dial the number (phone will display number dialed to confirm). Recalling numbers by name At the star t scree n, press Names (o r just press W or V ).
52 With pho ne lock a ctivated, Phone locked will be displayed each time you turn your phone on or off. Y ou will be prompted for your lock code w hen you pres s either Nam es or Menu ( Call not a l l owed w ill be displayed if yo u attempt to place a call while phone is locked) .
53 Profi les You can adjust and c ustomize y our phone t o w hatev er en vironm ent yo u find yourself in (e.g. shopping, a movie, etc.). Each profile uses its predefined s ettings to determine your phone’s rin ging volume, ringing tone, mes sage alert tone, keypa d tones, warning t ones, etc.
54 Customize allows you to customize a profile by chan ging i ts setti ngs. Wh en you re ach o ne of the fol - lowing settings w ithin a profile , press Sele ct .
55 Received calls opti ons See “Call log options” on page 24 . Restore factor y setti ng s Y ou can reset the settings of many of your phone’s features to factory defaults (as in a new phone). Restor ing fa c tor y setti ngs Press Men u 4-2-4 ( Settings - Pho ne setti ngs - Restore factor y settings ), enter security code and press OK .
56 Eras e will erase any existing outgoing ca ll restriction s. Note: When calls are restrict ed, calls may be possible to t he emergency number programmed into your phone (e.g. 9 1 1 or other official emergency numbers). Ho wever , Emergency key 9 may not operate depending on the type of restriction you choose.

73 Charging Times Note: The times displayed above are approximate and will allow your battery to obtain approximately 80% of its capacity . At this time, the battery scroll bars on your phone’s display will stop scrolling. If you wish to obtain 1 00% ba ttery capacity , please allow another two hours to “trickle” or “maintenance” charge.
74 Chargers and Othe r A cces s o ries The following chargers and other accessories may be available for your phon e; please see you r retailer for details. 75 Rapid Ci garett e Light er Cha rger (L CH-9) Y ou can charge your phone’s battery from you r vehicle b attery by using the Rapid Cigarette Lig hter Charger ( LCH-9). Calls are possible during charging. A green l ight indicates the charger is ready for charging (when not cha rging) or finished ch arging (if it has been charging ).
76 7. T roubleshooting What if charging fails? If your phone displays Not chargin g , cha rging is suspended. M ake sure the battery is conn ected to a n approved charging device and that t he battery is at room temperature. Extre me tempe ratures, hot or cold , can affect your battery’s perform ance and prev ent charging.

If using a hand-held phone park the vehicle before conversing. Always secure the phone in its holder; do not place the phone on the passenger seat or where it can break loose in a collision or sudden stop.
