1 1. Safety At A Glance Read these simple guidelin es before using your phone. Failure to comply with these guidelines may be dange rous or i llega l. For more detailed safety info rmation, see “I mportant Safety Info rmation” on page 8 0. Road Safe ty Comes First Don’t use a hand-hel d phone while drivi ng; park the vehicle first.
2 FCC/Industry Canada Notic e Y our phone ma y cause TV or radio i nterference (e.g. when using a telepho ne in close proximity to receiving equipm ent). The FCC/ Industry Ca nada can require you to stop using your telephon e if such interference c an not be e liminated.
3 2. Ge tting Connec ted You’ll need to char ge your bat tery once your phone has been act ivated. This sect ion wil l help fam iliari ze you on how , and wh en, to charge your batte ry. Attachin g your battery Simply place the battery in the grooves on the back of your p hone.
4 Charging your new ba ttery Y our phone can be used w ith ei ther a r echar geable Li-Ion or NiMH battery . Note that a new battery’ s full perfo rmance is ac hieved only after two o r thre e compl ete char ge and discharg e cycl es. With your phon e on or of f, conne ct the ch arger to a standar d 120V AC outlet.
5 When is char ging comple te? When the charge ind icators stop scr olling , your phone is consi der ed full y charge d. Howev er , a slight i ncrea se in charge ma y occur if your phon e is left con nect ed to the cha rger for a whi le. This is called “tr ickle ch arge.
6 Importa nt Battery In formation • The batt ery can be ch arged and d ischarged hu ndreds of times but i t will eventu ally wear out. When the operating time (ta lk time and standb y time) is noticeab ly shorter than normal, i t is time to b uy a new batte ry .
7 3. The B asics Y ou ha ve pur chased a pow erful phone, with lots of features. Read this section for some very ba sic infor mation on how to use your phon e. A more compreh ensive descri ption of your phone is covere d in “Feature s A to Z” star ting on page 16.
8 Checking signal str ength When yo u ar e at t he star t scr een (see page 12) or in a call , the s ignal stre ngth is i ndicat ed by the indicator s on th e left side of your phone ’ s displ ay . These indicat ors scr oll as the str ength of t he sign al incr eas es and d ecre ases.
9 W ant to stop your pho ne from ringing without answering the call? Press E when the phon e rings. Thi s keeps you from ans werin g a call if it’s in con venient to talk . You can still answer the call if Call or the na me of the pers on who is calling is s till flashin g on you r display.

11 4. Using Y our Phone The first few da ys you have yo ur ph one, play wi th it to learn how the menu and submenu system wo rks. The mor e you learn how t o acce ss these menus and submenus, the more fun you’ll have with you r phone. This section describes the different methods of using your phone menus and submenus.
12 For ex ample, pre ss Menu once. The scr oll bar appears with the first ( top) tab displayed. A differ ent tab appears each ti me you pr ess t he W or V key to move up and down thr ough the menu st ructur e. The scr oll bar w orks the same way with submenus.
13 Using shor tcuts This i s a qui ck and easy w ay t o access a menu w ithout having to scro ll through othe r menus. Pr ess Menu , then menu number , then submenu numb er . Pre ss the menu and submenu numbers wi thin a coupl e of seconds of each oth er when using this method.

16 5. Featu res A to Z ABC mode This allows you to enter name s into your phone book. See “Ent ering letters and numbers” on page 3 6 . Access co des This is a security f eature th at allo ws you a ccess t o cer- tain p hone fe atures, such as the phon e lock (page 52) and unlock ed ph one n umber (page 70) .
17 Snoo zing Press Sn ooze . The al arm will go off again in 10 minutes. If you l et the phone al arm for 1 minut e without pre ssing a key, i t stops alarming for 10 minutes then starts again. T urnin g the al arm cl ock off Press Menu 4 2 2 ( Setti ngs - Phone sett ings - Alarm clock ), then scroll to Off and press OK .
18 Auto matic redial Your p hone will r edial th e number y ou’re tryi ng to cal l up to 3 times after you he ar a quick, busy signal. Press ô to stop the ca ll attempts . This fe ature attemp ts to redial num bers that are busy due to the wireless network.
19 Stori ng exchange rates 1. Press Menu 7, then pres s Options 2. Scrol l to Exc hange rate and press OK 3. Pr ess W or V at eith er How m any ho me units t o a visi ted uni t or How many visi ted units to a home unit , d epend ing on how yo u wish to conv ert the currenc y .

21 Option 3: Erase notes With this option, you’l l need to choose which notes to erase. If you c hoose al l the not es for the day cur rently on display ( Of Chosen D ay ), or One By One (for all notes in the ca lendar), your phon e presents e ach note to you with the op tion Erase or Back .

27 Caller ID Calle r ID is a net work se rvice tha t can disp lay the n ame and ph one number o f the person cal ling yo u, if t he inform ation i s availabl e. Contact your service pr ovider for det ails . If the caller ca n be iden tified , the phone ma y dis play t he calle r’s nam e and ph one num ber.
28 Note: Y ou can also re trieve the access n umber from your phone book if it has already been stored. Simply press Sear ch , then W or V to find the numb er . 7. Enter card number and /or PIN when pr ompted t o enter calling car d number and personal identification num ber , then pre ss OK.
29 Making calling car d calls 1. Enter the phon e numbe r, inclu ding any prefi x (such as 0 or 1) that your calling card may require when y ou make a call ing card ca ll. See yo ur callin g card for instructions. 2. Pr ess and hold ó for a few seconds until your phone displa ys Card call .
30 Clear timer s This feature clears all call timers for the currently-selected NAM. Se e “Cal l timers” on page 24 for more detai ls. 1. 38 Special Characters (for stor ing numbers) The f ollowi ng specia l char acters ar e hel pful whe n you store names to your phone book (see page 49) . Simply press the * key on ce or repea tedly, an d the follo wing chara cters can be stored withi n the number s equence.
39 Snake Feed the snake with as many goodies as possible and watch it gr ow . Use keys 2, 4, 6, and 8 t o turn the snake toward food. The longer the snake’ s tail grows, the high er the s core. If th e snake h its its o wn tail or the surrou nding wall, the game is o ver .
40 New g ame starts a new game. Top score w ill dis play th e top score ( does not app ear in Logic ) . Instru ctions will describe how the game is played. Note: Last view or Conti nue may appear in the options list if a game is int errupted, n ot finished, or if you have lo st the game.
41 Keypad tones This is one of the settings in you r phone’s Profiles (see page 53 ) . It sets t he volume of t he tone you hear when you press your phone’s key s. Note that if you choose the Silen t profile, keypad tones will be turn ed off . Setting the keypad tones 1.

44 Fixed sets the tone le ngth to .1 second, regar dle ss of ho w l ong y ou p ress th e key . Off turns the tones of f, and no tones wi ll be sent whe n you press the keys. Memory status This feat ure allows you to see how many free and i n-use memory loca tions are in your di rectory.
45 4. Use W to scr oll thr ough your choices (your phone plays samples) a nd press OK . Microphone You can m ute and unmute your phone’s microphone while a ca ll is in pro gress. Duri ng a call, your phone’s softkeys change from Names and Menu to Options and Mute .

47 Once you s tore the appropria te code i n your ph one, the ser vice ap pears as a menu item. Y ou can th en use t he menu to activate and deac tivate these services. Each ti me you us e a f eature tha t requi res a f eature code, t hat code is sent to the n etwork to verify y ou’re using t he correct fe ature cod e.

64 Quick save Enter the phone numbe r and press Save . E nter a nam e at Name: if you w ish (optio nal), then press OK . Also, see “E ntering letters and number s” on page 36. System Y our phone i s capable of working in R esidential, Private, and Public Systems (such as your Home System).
65 T ext messages a nd pages Before y ou can send o r receive text mes sages and pages, you must subscribe to the text messaging network service. Some or al l of these feat ures may not be availabl e in some wireless systems. Please see your service provid er for detai ls and avail ability .

68 With the message displayed, press Options , scroll t o Reply and press OK . Then wr ite your reply an d send t he message as you normally would. If a phone number appears in the message you received, it’s used as the default fo r the reply you’re sending.
69 Store to uch tone strings the same way you store pho ne num bers (see page 50) . You can store a whole digit sequence in your phone bo ok an d sen d it a s tou ch t ones for f reque ntly -use d strings of numbers.
70 T o uch t one l engt h This fe ature deter mines the length of e ach touch tone when th ey are sen t automati cally. Short sets the tone length to .1 second. Long sets the tone len gth t o .5 seco nd. You can set the touch tone length b y pressing Menu 4 2 3 2 ( Settings - Phone sett ings - To uch ton es - To uch tone le ngth ).

73 Warning and game tones This is one of the settings in you r phone’s Profiles (see page 53) . War ning and game t ones in clude tone s your phone ma kes for conditions such as e rrors, confir- mations, power on, battery low, rechar ge battery a nd games.
74 6. Accessories If you wa nt to enhan ce your phone’ s functional ity, an exte nsive ra nge of acces sories is ava ilable fo r you.
