Your phone provides many functions which are practical for daily use, such as a hands-free loudspeaker, al arm clock, calculator, calendar, and m ore. Your phone can also connect to a PC, laptop, or other device using a data cable.

Phone a t a gla nce 10 ■ The s tar t scr een The start screen is home base and indica tes that your phone is in standby mode. Signal strength (1)—A higher bar indicate s a stronger network signal. Battery level (2)—A higher bar indicates more charge in the battery.

Text en try 19 3. T ext entry You can use two meth ods for entering text and numbers: Standard mode and Predictive text mode. Select Cl ear to backspace the c ursor and delete a character. Select and hold Clear to backspace continuously and delete characters.
Text en try 20 Punctu ation an d specia l characte rs While at any text entry screen, press * to display special characters (press a nd hold * if pre dictive t ext is on ). Pre ss * again to cycle thro ugh all av ailabl e character s. You can naviga te through th e list of specia l characte rs by using the Fo ur-way scroll ke y.
Call log 21 4. Call log Call log stores informat ion about the last 20 miss ed, 20 received , and 20 dialed calls. It also adds the total duration of all calls. When the nu mber of calls exceed the ma ximum, t he most rece nt call rep laces th e olde st.
Call log 22 ■ View missed calls Missed calls a re calls that were ne ver answered. The missed calls feature does not function when your phone is switched off. 1. If the message notification display appears in the display, select Lis t . 2. Whe n the phone nu mber appea rs in the display , select Options and an option to activate.
Messages 23 5. Messages If you have subs cribed to a messaging se rvice through your w ireless provider, you can send and rece ive text messages to com patible phon es that also su bscribe to a compatible mes sage servic e. You may al so be able to s end and receive e-mail messages.
Messages 24 Send —Send the message to recipient. List recipients — Send the m essage to more than one recipient, o r delete or edit the recipie nt list.

Messages 26 ■ V o ice messages If you s ubscribe to v oice ma il, your w ireless provider will furn ish you with a voic e mailbox numbe r. You need to save this nu mber to your phone to use voice mail. When you receive a voice message, your phone lets you know by beeping, displaying a message, or bo th.
Messages 27 Voice mail s ervices vary by service provider. Th e following instruct ions are examples of common operations. Please check with y our service provider for specific instructio ns for using your voice m ail service. Write down voic e mailbox process 1.
Messages 28 ■ Minibrowser messages Minibrowser messaging is a network service. See "Network Services," p. 6. If your wirele ss service pr ovid er support s this fe ature, you can use th e minibr owser to chec k for e-ma il mess ages . Messages 29 My folders —Allows you to organize your messages by creating custom folders and saving some of your me ssages here. Select Option s > Add folder to add a custom folder.
Contacts 30 6. Contacts The con tacts list ca n hol d up to 250 co ntacts with multip le number s and text no tes for ea ch co ntact. T he amou nt of number s and te xt e ntrie s that yo u can save may vary, depending on length and the total number of entries in the contacts list.
Contacts 31 ■ Add new contacts Add number s to a co ntact Save a name a nd number 1. In the standby mode, use the key pad to enter the phone number you wish to s ave. 2. Sele ct Opt ions > Save . 3. Enter the name, and sele ct OK . Save (only) a number 1.
Contacts 32 Edit phone nu mber Highlight the phone number you would like to edit, and select Optio ns , and Select one of the following options: Add voice tag —Add a voice tag to the contact. Edit number —Edit an existing phone num ber of the contact.
Contacts 33 Custom tone —Add a custom ring tone to the cont act. Send bus. card —Sen d the contact a business card. Edit name —Edit the n ame of the conta ct. View n ame —Vie w th e name o f th e co ntac t. Del ete —Del ete t he ent ire e -mail entr y fr om yo ur co ntacts li st.
Contacts 34 3. Enter the numbe r (including the area code), and select OK ; or sele ct Sea rch to retrieve a numbe r from the conta cts list. 4. Enter a name for the num ber, and select OK . If 1-touch dialing is off, the phone disp lays a prompt asking if you would like to turn 1-touch dialing on.
Contacts 35 Dial a nu mbe r In the standby mode: 1. Sel ect and hold Contacts . 2. When y ou hea r severa l beeps a nd Speak now appears, release the key. 3. Pronounce the voice tag clearly into th e microphone. When the phone finds the v oice tag, Found: appears, and the phone automatically dials the number.

Gallery 37 7. Gall ery You can sa ve wallpap er and r inging tones to fo lders in the gall ery, or create folders of your own and save them th ere. You can download wallpaper and tones from web sites. ■ Open the gallery In the standby mode, select Menu > Galle ry .
Settings 38 8. Settings Use this menu to c hange the time settings, call settin gs, phone settings , display settin gs, tone settings, enhanc ement se ttings, secur ity set tings, network, network services, and to restore the factory settings.
Settings 39 ■ V oice commands You can set as many as five voice commands, which allow hands -free operation of certain ph one features . Assign a voi ce tag to a comman d Before using voice commands, you must fir st add a voice tag to the phone functi on.
Settings 40 • Voice tags are sensitive to background nois e. Record voice tags and use them in a qu iet environm ent. • Very short names are not accepted.
Settings 41 Automatic r edial Occasionally, your network may experience he avy traffic, resulting in a fast busy signal when y ou dial. With aut omatic re dial activated, your phone redials the number (numbe r of times is specified by the network), and notifies you once the network is a vailable.
Settings 42 Save information 1. In the standby mode, select Menu > Settings > C all settings > Calling card . 2. Enter your security code, and select OK .
Settings 43 ■ Phone settings Ph one l ang uage 1. In the standby mode, select Menu > Settings > Phone settings > Phone language . 2. Sel ect the language of your choice. The phone language affects the time and da te formats of the clock, alarm clock, and calendar.
Settings 44 Welcome n ote You ca n write a welcome n ote whi ch brief ly appe ars on the d isplay screen whenev er you switch your phone on. Predictive text input is not available for entering welcome note text . 1. In the standb y mode , select Menu > Settings > Phone settin gs > Welc ome n ote .

Settings 50 When the device is locked, calls still may be possible to the official emergency number programed into you r device. Call not allowed is displayed if you atte mpt to place a call wh ile phone is locked. To answer a call wit h phone lock on, select Answer or pres s the ca ll key .

You can set a delay before forwarding takes place. Forward if out of reach — Forward incoming calls when your phon e is off.

Organizer 54 9. Organizer Your phone cont ains features to help organize your eve ryday life, inclu ding an alarm clock, calendar, calculator, c ountdown timer, and st opwatch. ■ Alarm clock Set an alar m The alarm clock is based on the phone cl ock.
Organizer 55 Turn an alarm o ff In the standby mode, select Menu > Organizer > Alarm clock > Alarm time > Off . ■ Calendar The calenda r keeps trac k of reminder s, calls you need to make, meet ings, and birthdays. It can even sound an alarm for any of th ese events.

Organizer 58 ■ Calculator The calculator in your phone adds, subtra cts, multiplies, divides, c alculates the square and the square root , chang es the si gn of t he numbe r enter ed, and co nverts curren cy values . Note: This calculato r has a limited accu racy and is designed for si mple ca lcul ati ons .
Organizer 59 ■ Countdown timer You can e nter a specified time (up to 99 hours and 59 minutes). Wh en the time runs out, your phone sounds an alarm. The countdown timer only works when the phone is on. Once you turn off your phone, the timer is no longer active.
Organizer 60 Measure s plit time You can use th e split tim e function for such thin gs as a long distance race when you need to pa ce yourself. 1. In t he sta ndby mode, selec t Menu > Organizer > Stopw atch > Split timin g > Start . 2. Sele ct Split to note th e lapsed time.
Organizer 61 Options You can choose the following option s when using the stopwatch: Continue —Shows up when the stopwatch is working in the background. Show last time —Allows you to view the last me asured time. View t imes —Allows you to browse the saved times.

PC Connectivity 66 13. PC Connect ivity With the PC Suite you can , for example, create an d send text message s, and synchronize c ontacts and calendar be tween your phone and a compatible PC. Some of the features available in PC Suite are carrier dependent.
