About your device The wireless device describe d in this guide is approved for use on the (E)GSM 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 and WCDMA 850, 1700-2100 (RM-593) or (E)GSM 850, 900, 18 00, and 1900 and WCDMA 850, and 1900 (RM-594). Contact your service provider for more information about networks.
Network services To use the device you must have servic e from a wireless service provider. Some features are not availa ble on all networks; other feat ures may require that you make specific arrangements with your service provider to use them. Network services involve transmission of data .
1. Find help In-device help Your device contains instructions to help to use the applications in your devi ce. To open help texts from the main menu, select Menu > Help and the appli cation for which you want to read instructions. When an application is open , to access the help te xt for the current view, select Options > Help .
● Restart the device: switch off the device , and remove th e battery. After about a minute, replace the battery, and swi tch on the device. ● Restore the original factory settings as explained in the user guide. Your documents and files will be deleted in th e reset, so back up your data first.
To view the status of previou s updates, select . Select Options and from the following: ● Update via PC — Update your device using a PC . This option replaces the Start update option when updates are only av ailable using the Nokia Software Upda ter PC applicati on.

To free memory, transfer da ta to a compatible memory card (if available) or to a compatible computer. To remove data you no lon ger need, us e File manager or open the respective application.
1. Open the cover of the SIM card slot. 2. Insert a SIM card in the SIM ca rd slot. Ma ke sure the contact area on the card is facing up and the beveled corn er is facing toward the device. Push the card in. 3. Close the cover of the SIM card slot. Make sure the cover is properly clos ed.
1. Remove the back cover. 2. Insert the battery. 3. To replace the cover, direct the top locking catches toward their slots, and press down u ntil the cover locks into place. Insert the memory card Use only compatible microSD and microSDH C cards approved by Nokia for use with this device.
1. Open the cover of the memory card slot. 2. Insert a compatible memory card in the memory card slot. Make sure the contact area on the ca rd is facing up. Push the card in. You can hear a click when the card locks into place. 3. Close the cover of the memory card slot.
2. Connect the charger to the device. 3. When the device indicates a fu ll charge, disconnect the charger from the device, then from the w all outlet. You do not need to charge the battery for a specific length of time, and you can use the device while it is chargi ng.

Switch the device on 1. Press an d hold the powe r key. 2. If the device asks for a PIN code or lock code, enter it, and select OK . To delete a number, select . The factory setting for the lock code is 12345 . 3. Select your location. If you accidentally select the wrong location, select Back .
Interactive display elements To open the clock application, select the clock (1). To open the calendar, or to chang e the profile, select the date or the profile name (2). To view or change connectivity settin g s ( ), or to view missed events, select the top rig ht corner (3).
Touch screen actions Tap and double-tap To open an application o r other element on the touch screen, you normally tap it with your finger. However, to open the following items, you m ust tap them twi ce. Important: Use only a stylus approved by Nokia fo r use with this device.
Swipe To swipe, slide your finger quic kly left or right on the screen. Example: When viewing an image, to view the next or previous image, swipe the image left or right, respectively. Scroll To scroll up or down in list s that have a scroll bar, drag the slider of the scroll bar.
Media key To open applications such as the music player or browser, select the medi a key ( ) to open the media bar, and select the application. Change the rin ging tone Select Menu > Settings and Personal > Profiles .
Nokia Care services If you need to contact Nokia Care services, check the list of local Nokia Care contact centres at www. nokia.com/customerservice. Maintenance For maintenance services, find your nearest Nokia Care point at www.nokia.com/ repair. 3.
Transfer content for the first time 1. To retrieve data from the other device for the first time, select Menu > Applications > Sw itch on your device. 2. Select the connection type you wa nt to use to transfer the data . Both devices must support the select ed connection type.
The ringing type is s et to Silent, and the messa ge and e-mail alert tones are turned off. A timed profile is active. The touch screen and keys are locked. A clock alarm is active. The second phone line is being used (network service). All calls to the device are diverted to another number (network service).
Synchronization is in progress. Contacts bar To add a contact to the home screen, in the home screen, select > Options > New contact , and follow the instruc tions. To communicate with a conta ct, select the contact and from the following: Call the contact.
Offline profile To activate the Offline profile, pr ess the power key briefly, and select Offline . The Offline profile lets you use the de vice without connecting to the wireless network. When you activat e the Offline profile, the connection to the wireless network is turned off, as indicated by in the signal streng th indicator area.
To open a list of last dialed numbers , in the home screen, pres s the call key. To use voice commands, in the home screen, press and hold the call key. Volume and loudspeaker control To adjust the volume level when you have an active call or are listening to a sound clip, use the volume key.

Attach a wrist s trap Tip: Attach the plectrum stylus to the device like a wrist strap. Remove the SIM card 1. Remove the back cover by lifting it from the top end of th e device.
Remove the memory card Important: Do not remove the memory card durin g an operation when the card is being accessed. Doin g so may damage the memory card and the device, an d corrupt data stored on the card. 1. If the device is switched on, before you remove the card, press the power key, and select Remo ve memory card .

Voice mailbox To call your voice mailbox (network service), in the home screen, select Telephone , and select and hold 1 . 1. To change the phone number of your voice mailbox, select Menu > Settings and Calling > Cal l mailbo x , a mailbox, and Options > Change number .
3. When the new call is answered, to join the first participan t in the conference call, select . To add a new person to the call, make a call to another partic ipant, and add the new call to the conference call. To have a private conversation with one of the participants, select .
1. To answer the waiting ca ll, press the call key. The first call is put on hold. 2. To switch between the two calls, select Options > Swap . 3. To connect an incoming call or a call on ho ld with an activ e call, and to disco nnect yourself from the calls, select Options > Transfer .
Video shari ng Use video sharing (net work service) to send live video or a video clip from your mobile device to another compatible mobile device during a voice call.
Person-to-person connection settings A person-to-person connection is also known as a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) connection. The SIP profile se ttings must be configured in your device before you can use video sharing. Ask your service prov ider for the SIP profile settings, an d save them to your device.
You may need to convert the video clip into a suit able format to be able to share it. If your device notifies you that the video clip must be con verted, select OK .
● Yes — Accept the invi tation and activate the sharing session. ● No — Reject the invitation. The sender re ceives a messag e that you rejected the invitation. You can also press the end key to reject the invi tation and end the voice call. Select Options and from the following: ● Pause — Pause the playing of a video clip.
● Clear list — Clear the selected recent calls list. ● Delete — Clear a highlighted event in the selected list. ● Settings — S e l e c t Log duration and the length of time that t he communication information is saved in the log. If you select No log , no information is saved in the log.
To view how much data was transferre d and how long a certain packet data connection lasted, scroll to an inco ming or outgoing event indicated by GPRS , and select Options > View . To copy a phone number from the log to the clip board, and paste it into a text message, for example , select Opti ons > Use number > Copy .

To enter letters and numbers (defa ult mo de), write words as you would normally. To select number mode, select . To enter non-Latin characters, select the corresponding icon, if available. To enter special characters, writ e them as you would normally, or select and the desired character.
1 — Close - Closes on-screen keypad ( Alph anumeric keypad ). 2 — Input menu - Opens the touch input menu, which includes commands such as Activate predi ctive text and Writin g language .
8 — Star - Opens a special characters table. 9 — Shift - Changes the character cas e, turn s predictive text input modes on or off, and switches betw een the alphabet and number modes. Traditional text input Tap a number key (1-9) re peatedly until the de sired character appears.
4. Start writing the next word. Switch betwee n text modes To turn predictive tex t input off for all editors in your device, tap , and select Deactivate predicti on or quickly double-tap # . Alternatively, you can tap , and select Predic tive text > Off .

● Voice tags are sensitive to background noise. Record voice tags and us e them in a quiet environment. ● Very short names are not accepted. Use lo ng na mes, and avoid similar names for different numbers.
To add an image for a contact saved in the device memory, se lect the contact, Options > Add image , and an image from Gallery. To remove the ringing tone, select Default tone from the list of ringing tones. To view, change or remove the image from a contact, select t he contact, Op tions > Image , and the desired option.
Fixed dialing Select Menu > Contacts and Options > SIM numbers > Fixed dial contacts . With the fixed dialing service, you can restri ct calls from your device to certain phone numbers. Not all SIM cards support the fixe d dialing service. For more information, contact your service provider.
Tip: To avoid rewriting messages that you send often, use texts in th e Templates folder in My folders. You can also create and save your own templates. Messaging contains the following folders: ● Inbox — Received messages, except e-mail and cell broadcast messages, are stored here.
Only devices that have co mpatible features can rece ive and display multimedia messages. Th e appearance of a message may vary dependin g on the receiving device.
Messaging inbox Receive messages Select Menu > Me ssaging and Inbox . In the Inbox folder, indi cates an unread text message, an unread multimedia message, an unread audio message, and data received through Bluetooth connectivity. When you receive a message, and 1 new message are displ ayed in the home screen.
To save the data from the messag e, select Options and the corresponding option. Web service messages are notifications (f or example, news headlines) and may contain a text messag e or a link. For availabili ty and subscription, contact your service provider.
To connect to your mailbox and retrieve new e-mail headers or messages, select Yes . When you view messages online, you are continuously connected to a remote mailbox using a data connection. To view previously retrieved e- mail messages offline, select No .
Setting the device to ret rieve e-mail au tomatically may involve the transmission of large amounts of data throu gh your service provider's network. Contact your service provider for information abou t data transmission cha rges. Delete e-mail messages Select Menu > Me ssaging and a mailbox.
Use of the Mail for Exchange application is limited to over-the-air synchronization of PIM information between the N okia device and the authorized Microsoft Exchange server. Mail for Exchange can be set up only if your compan y has Micr osoft Exc hange Server.
Cell broadcast messages Select Menu > Me ssaging and Options > Cell broadcast . Cell broadcast (network service) allows yo u to receive me ssages on various topics, such as weather or traffic conditions, from your service provider. For available topics and relevant topic numbers, conta ct your service provider.
● Character encoding — To us e character conversion to another encoding system when available, select Red uced support . ● Receive report — Select whether the network sends delivery reports on your messages (ne twork service).
Off to prevent receipt of any multimedia messages. Automatic retrieval may not be supported in all regions. ● Allow anony mous msgs . — Reject messages from anon ymous senders. ● Receive ads — Receive multimedia message ad vertisements (net work service) .
8. Personalize your device You can personalize y our device by cha ngi ng the home screen, tones, or themes. Change t he look of yo ur device Select Menu > Settings and Personal > Themes . You can use themes to change the look of the di splay, such as wa llpaper and main menu layout.
To set the profile to be active until a cer tain time within the next 24 hours, scroll to the profile, select Options > Timed , and set the time. When the time expires, the profile changes back to the previous ly acti ve non-timed profile. When the profile is timed, is displayed in the home screen.
To fast-forward or rewind, tap and hold or . To go to the next item, tap . To return to the beginning of the item, tap . To skip to the previous item, tap again w ithin 2 seconds aft er a song or podcast has started. To turn random play ( ) on or off, select Options > Shuffle play .
4. If you select Yes , select artists to fin d the songs you wa nt to add to the play list. Select Add to add items. To show the song list unde r an artist title , select Expand . To hide the song list, select Collapse . 5. When you have made your selections, select Done .

A compati ble memory card must be inserted in the device. ● To synchronize music with Wi ndows Medi a Player, con nect a compat ible USB data cable, and select Media transfer as the connection mode.
Nokia Music Store settings The availability and app earance of the Nokia Music Store se ttings may vary. The settings may also be predefined and not ed itable. You may be asked to select the access point to use when connecting to the Nokia Music Store.
● Save to — Define the location where yo u want to save yo ur podcasts . ● Update interval — Define how often podcasts are updated. ● Next update date — Define the date of the next au tomatic up date. ● Next update time — Define the time of the next automatic update.
Radio Listen to the radio Select Menu > Music > Radio . The FM radio depends on an an tenna othe r than the wireless device antenna. A compatible headset or accessory n eeds to be attached to the dev ice for the FM radio to function properly.
To set the desired freq uency manually, select Opti ons > Tune stations > Options > Manual tuning . 10. Camera Your device supports an image capture resolution of 1600x1200 pixels. The image resolution in this guide may appear different. Activate the camera To activate the camera, press the cap ture key.
8 — Memory in use. Depend ing on the setu p of your device, there are the following options: device memory ( ) or memory card ( ). 9 — GPS sign al indicat or 10 — Scene modes Capture and recordi.
— Adjust light sensitivity (images only). Increase the light sensitivity in low light conditions to avoid too dark images an d blurry images. In creasing the light sensitivity may also in crease the image noise. — A d j u s t c o n t r a s t ( i m a g e s o n l y ) .
After capturing an image After you capture an image, select fr om th e following options (available only if you have selected Optio ns > Settings > Show captured image > Yes ): ● — Send the image in a multimedia or e-mail message, or through connection methods such as Bluetooth connectivity.
Location information You can automatically add ca pture location information to the file details of the captured material. Select Menu > Applications > Camera . To add location information to all captured material, select Opti ons > Settings > Show GPS info > On .
To set the self-timer delay, select > , and the delay needed before the image is captured. To activate the self-timer, select Activate . The stopwatch icon on the screen blinks and the remaining time is di splayed when the timer is running. The camera captures the image after the se lected delay elapses.
3. To pause recording at any time, select Pause . To res ume, select Co ntinue . If you pause recording and do not press any key within one minute, the recording stops. To zoom in or out of the subject, use the zoom key in your device. 4. To stop recording, press the c apture ke y.
After recording a video clip After you record a video clip, select from th e following options (available only if you have selected Optio ns > Settings > Show last captured vi deo > Yes ): ● Play — Play the video clip you just recorded. ● — Upload the image to a compatible onlin e album.
To copy or move files to the memory card (if inserted) or device memory, select a file, Options > Organize > Copy or Move , and from the available options. View images and videos Select Menu > Gallery and Images & vi deos . The images, video clips, and folders are disp layed in a loop and ordered by date and time.
● Folder optio ns — To move files to folders, select Move to folder . To crea te a new folder, select New folder . ● Organize — To copy files to folders, select Copy . To move files to folders, select Move . ● View by — View files by date, title, or size.
Manage your accounts To view your accounts, s elect Options > Settings > My accounts . To create a new acc ount, select Options > Add new account . To change your user name or pa ssword for an a ccount, select the account and Options > Open .
2. Select Option s > Send > Upload and the desired account. 3. Edit your post as required. 4. Select Option s > Upload . 13. Nokia Video Center With Nokia Video Center (network servic e), you can download and stream video clips over the air from compatible inte rnet video services using a packet data connection.
To view information abou t the selected video clip, select Options > Video details . Some video clips can be streamed over the air, but others must be first downloaded to your device. To download a video clip, select Options > Download . Downloads continue in the backgrou nd if you exit the application.
● Add feed — Subscribe to new feeds. Select Via Video directory to select a feed from the services in the video directory. ● Refresh feeds — Refresh the content of all feeds. ● Manage account — Manage your account o ptions for a particular feed, if available.
1. To view your device on a PC as a mass mem ory device where you can transfer any data files, make th e connection with a USB data cable. 2. Select M ass storage as the connection mode. A compatible m emory card needs to be inserted in the device. 3.
14. Web browser With the web browser, you can view hype rtext markup language (HTML) pages on the web as originally designed (network service). You can a lso browse web pages that are designed specifically for mobile devices, and use extensible hypertext markup langua ge (XHTML), or th e wireless markup language (WML).
To refresh the content of the web page, selec t Options > Web page options > Reload . To save the current web page as a bookmark, select Optio ns > Web page options > Save as bookmark .
● Reload — Refresh the web page. ● Overview — View an overview of the current web page. ● Homepage — Go to the homepage (i f defined in the settings ). ● Bookmarks — Open the bookmarks view. ● Find keywd. — Search on the current web page.

To download an ite m: 1. Select the link. 2. Select the appropriate option to purchase the item (for example, Buy ). 3. Carefully read all th e information provided. 4. To continue or cancel the download, se lect the appropriate option (for example, Accept or Cancel ).
Empty the cach e The information or services you have acce ssed are stored in the cache memory of the device. A cache is a memory location th at is used to store data te mporarily. If you have tried to access or have accessed confidential information requiring passwords, empty the cache after each use.
15. Positioning (GPS) You can use application s such as GPS data to calcu late your location or measure distances. These applications requ ire a GPS connection. About GPS The coordinates in the GPS are expressed using the internation al WGS-84 coordinate system.
Assisted GPS (A-GPS ) is used to retrieve assistance data over a p acket data connection, which assists in calculating the coordinates of your current location when your device is receiving signals from satellites.
Tips on creating a GPS connection Check satellite signal status To check how many satellites you r device has found, an d whether your device is receiving satellite signals, s elect Menu > Ap plications > Location and GP S data > Options > Satellite stat us .
When you receive a position request, th e service that is making the request is displayed. Select Accept to allow your position information to be sent or Reject to deny the request. Landmarks Select Menu > Applications > Location and Landmarks .
Select Menu > Applications > Location and GPS data . Positioning settings Select Menu > Applications > Location and Positioni ng . Positioning methods Select from the following: ● Integrated G PS — Use the integrated GPS receiver of your device.
Maps shows you what is nearby, helps you plan your route, and guides you where you want to go. ● Find cities, streets, and services. ● Find your way with turn-by-turn directions. ● Synchronize your favorite locations and routes between your cellular phone and the Ovi Maps internet service.
If only cell ID based positioning is availa ble, a red halo around the positioning icon indicates the general area you mig ht be in. The accuracy of the estimate increases in densely populated areas. Move on the map — Drag the map with your finger .

Download maps with Noki a Map Loader 1. Connect yo ur device to your com patib le computer with a compatible USB data cable or Bluetooth connection. If you use a data cable, select PC Suite as the USB connection method. 2. Open Nokia Map Loader on the computer.
signals may not be available inside buil dings or underground and may be impaired by materials such as concrete and metal. GPS should not be used for precise location measurement, and you should never rely solely on location data from the GP S receiver and cellular radio networks for positioning or navigation.
To avoid data transfer cos ts, you can also get s earch results withou t an active internet connection, if you ha ve maps of the searched area stored on your device. To ensure your device does not use the in ternet connection, in the main menu, se lect > Inte rnet > Connection > Off line .

If you need to delete places or routes, or add a route to a collection, go t o the Ovi Maps internet serv ice at www.ovi.com. Send places to your friends When you want to share pl ace information with your friends, send these details directly to their devices.
The applicable Facebook term s of use apply to sharing your location to Facebook. Familiarize yourself with the Facebook term s of use and the privacy practices, and use appropriate consideration before disclo sing your location data to others or viewing the location of others.
When you use drive or walk navigation for the first time, you are asked to select the language of the voic e guidance, and downl oad the appro priate files. If you select a langu age that include s street names, also the street nam es are said aloud. Voice guidance may not be available for your language.
Tip: To drive without a set destination, select Map . Your location is displayed on the center of the map as you move. Change views during navigation — Swipe the screen, and s elect 2D view , 3D view , Arrow view , or Route ove rview . Obey all local laws.
View traffic ev ents on the map — During drive navigation, select Options > Traffic info . The events are displayed as triangles and lines. Update traffic information — Select Options > Traffic info > Up date traffic info . When planning a route, you can set the device to av oid traffic events, such as traffic jams or roadworks.
Plan a route Plan your journey, and create your route and view it on the map before setting off. Select Menu > Maps . Create a rout e 1. In the map view, tap a loca tion. To search for an address or pla ce, select Search . 2. Tap the location's information area ( ).
2. Set the transportation mode to Drive or Walk . If you select Walk , one-way streets are regarded as normal streets, and walkways an d ro utes through, for example, parks and shopping centers, can be used.
Check the type of access point you need wi th your service provider for the service you want t o access. Fo r availability an d subscription to pa cket data connection services, contact your service provider. Network settings Select Menu > Settings and Connecti vity > Netw ork .
You may receive access point settings in a message from a service provider. Some or all access points may be preset for your d evice by your service provider, and you may not be able to change, cr eate, edit, or remove them.
To add access points to an access point group, select the group and Options > New access point . To copy an existing access poin t from another group, select the group, tap the releva nt access point if it is not already highlighted, and select Options > Organize > Copy to other dest .
● Network t ype — Select the internet protocol type to transfer data t o and from your device. The other settings depe nd on the selected network type.
A synchronization profile contai ns the necessary settings for synchronization. When you open the application, the defa ult or previously used synchronization profile is displayed. To modify the profil e, tap a synchronization item to include it in the profile or to leave it out.
