2 FCC/Industry Canada Notice Y our phone may cause TV or radio interference (for example, when using a telephone in c lose proximity to rec eiving equipment). The FCC or Industry Canada can require you to stop using your telephone if such interfe rence cannot be eliminated.
3 2. Battery installation and chargin g Before you can use your new phone, you need to attach and charge the battery . Attaching the battery To attach the batte ry , place it on the back of the ph one as shown and s lide it toward t he top of the phone until it clicks into place.
4 Prob le ms ch ar ging If your phone displays Not char ging , c harging is suspended. Check t hat the ba ttery is conne cted to an a pproved charging device. If the battery is very hot or c old, wait for a while; ch arging will aut omatically resume after the batte ry is restored to its normal operating s tate.
5 Removing the battery Note: Switch off the phone before removing the battery! 1 Press and hold the button at the top of the battery . 2 Slide the batte ry toward the bott om of the phon e.

About the phone, keys and menu Power key Y ou can use the power key to: • turn the phone on or off (press and hold ) • turn the ph one’s lights on for 1 5 seconds • sel ec t a quick al ert settin g (see page 25) (if K eyguard is off and the phon e is not connected t o a headset or handsfree car kit.
7 Scroll keys The scroll key s are locate d to the right of the Navi™ ke y . Us e the scroll keys to: • browse me nus • move the cursor (see page 1 1) to the ri ght or the left • adjust the e .
8 Menu Using your phone’s menu y ou can easily access the man y powerful features in your phone. Scrol l bar When you use your phone ’s men u, a scroll bar appears at the far right of the screen. This bar indi cates wh ere you a r e in the men u; each tab location on the bar represents a different menu item.
9 Menu sho rtcuts When you select a menu item, numb ers appear on the screen above the scroll bar . If you become familiar with these numbers , you can use th em as shortcuts for acc essing different menu ite ms. For exa mple, to access th e Phon e settings me nu , you can si mply press Menu 4 2.

11 Entering letters and numbers Curs or The cursor is a blinking vertical line that appears on the scre en when y ou are entering text or number s. Charact ers you enter appear to the righ t of the cursor . Press to delete th e character to the left of the cursor .
12 Changi ng letter c ase Press the key (the Case key , shown on the phone diagram on this guide’s inside front cover) to switch between upper- and low er-case letters.
13 Keyguard (loc king the keypa d) Using the Keyguard feature you can “lock” your phon e’s ke ypad so th at accident al keyp re sse s have no effect. This is han dy when your ph one is in a pocket or purse. Note: K eyguard is not a security feature and will not prevent unauthorized use of your phon e.
14 To unlock the keys Press Un lock . Notes about K eyguard • When Keyguard is on, the on ly way to answer a call is to press Answe r . Once the call is termina ted, keyguard is reactivate d. • When Keyguard is on, press the power key briefly to turn your phone’s lights on for fifteen s econds.
15 4. Basic functions Turning the phone on Press and hold for one second. Note: Pressing briefly turns your phone ’s lights on for fifteen seconds. If the phone asks for a lock code, see ‘Lock code’ on page 52. If the phone asks for a security code, see ‘Security code’ on page 52.
16 Checking signal strength Y our phone operates on radio w aves. Radio signal coverage is maintain ed by a wireless netw ork, and the qua lity of calls on your phone depends on the strength of the wireless radio sig nal.
17 Ending a call Press En d . Last number redial The las t 1 0 numbers you dial ed ar e st or ed i n the d ial ed c all s list. Use this l ist to redial a numbe r you have calle d recently . 1 From the Ready screen, press to access the dialed calls list.
18 Silencing an incoming call To silence the ringin g of the incoming call, press briefly . Y ou can s till answer the call if Call or the name of the person is still flashing on y our screen.
19 5. Phone boo k For conveni ent and easy dialing, you ca n save 1 00 phone numbers and associat ed names in your phone. Saving names and numbers Saving a name and number is easy! Just en ter the pho n e nu mb er , press or , the n press Save . Enter a name if you wi sh, then press OK .
20 Finding names and numbers There are several way s to find name s and numbe rs in your phone book. From the Ready screen Press to access your phone book , then scroll to the desired name/number . Tip: Yo u can al so press t he numbe r key th at corresponds to th e first letter of the n ame.
21 Erasing names and numbers Use Menu 1 6 to erase entries from your phone book. One by on e lets you selec t one entry a t a time to be era sed. Erase all erases your entire phone book (you are required to enter your security code first). Finding your own number Use Menu 1 7 to view your phone’s num ber .
22 6. Settings This section describes some phone settings that allow you to customize your phon e to suit your preferences and that you probably won’t change v ery often. Automatic redial Use Menu 4 1 2 to turn this fea ture on or off. W hen this feature is on and the wireless network is busy , your phone redials a number u p to three times.
23 If the clock ’s time format is set to am/p m , you are asked to choose am or pm . Note: Pressing does not work on this screen. If you make a mistake, re-enter all four digits. Select ing ti m e format Use Menu 7 2 3 to s et the clock’s format to am /pm or 24-ho ur .
24 Tones Use Menu 8, Tones, to cha nge the six sound settings in your phone: ringing option, ringing tone, ringing vo lume, message alert tone, keypad tones, and warning and game tones. Using the quick alert settings feature (se e page 25) you can select a fixed combination of t hese settings to s uit your current en vironment.
25 Ring i ng vo lu m e Use Menu 8 3 to control the volu me of your phone’s ringing and of message alert tones. Mess age ale rt to ne Use Menu 8 4 to c hoo se th e to ne playe d wh en y ou re cei ve a text message. Scroll to a tone to hear how it sounds.
26 Note: Y ou can only access your p hone’s quick alert settings from the Ready screen. Tip: Instead of using the scroll keys, you can press repeatedly to s croll through this m enu. After you reach th e setting you want, pres s and hold . Note : If you choose Si lent or Qu iet , th e al arm c lock only sounds a quiet beep.

28 7. Emerg en c y c alls 1 If the phone is no t on, switch it on. 2 Press and hold for several seconds to ready the phone for calls. 3 Ke y in the em ergenc y numbe r for your presen t locat ion (e.g. 9 1 1 or other official emergency number). Emergency numbers va ry by location.
29 Emergency ke y 9 Use Menu 4 1 1 to turn on this feature. W hen this feature is on, the ph one attempts to make an em ergency c all when you: • press and hold the 9 key , or • press 9 , t hen press Call . Note: When Keyguard is active , the only w ay to ma ke a n emerg ency cal l is to dial th e emergen cy numb er , then pre ss Call .
30 8. Adva n c ed func ti on s Network feature sett ing Call forwarding, call waiting, and send own number are network s ervices available through your serv ice provider . These features do not appear in your phone’s Network serv ices menu until you save the rela ted feature code(s) given to you by your service provider .
31 In-call menu When yo u are in a single call, the Navi™ key funct ion is End . Howeve r , you ca n use your phone’s in-c all menu to perform several fun ctions while in a call. To access th e in-call menu, press to cha nge the N avi™ key function to Opt ions , then p ress Options .
32 Digital The Na v i™ key fu nctio n change s to Ans wer . On ce you answer th e new incomin g call, the Navi™ ke y funct ion changes to Options . To swap bet ween the cal l s, press Fl ash . Analog The Navi™ key functi on remains End . Press to change the Navi™ key functio n to Options to access the in-call menu.
33 Cancelli ng call wa i ting: menu method Y ou can save the code for c ancelling call w aiting given by your service provider and then use Menu 4 4 2 2 to canc el call waiting .
34 Note: The order of the follo wing steps may vary , depending on which dialing sequence your card uses. 6 Enter the a ccess numbe r (usually t he 1-800 n umber listed on the back of the calling card), the n press OK . 7 Enter your card numb er and/or PIN, then press OK .
35 Activatin g call for war ding Standard method To activate call forwarding, you must get th e call forwarding activation code from your se rvice provider . 1 Dial the code for act ivating call forwarding followed by the phone number to w hich you wa nt to forward your calls.
36 1-touch dialing 1-touch dialing le ts you make phone calls quick ly and easily with the touch of a button. Once you have assigned a phone numb er to a number key (2 t hroug h 8), y ou can p r ess an d hold that k ey to dial the nu mber . ( Y ou can also p ress and hold the num ber key an d then pres s Call .
37 Choosing your phone number (NAM selection) Note: Y our phone may not be able to support more than one phone number . Please contact your service proivder for details.
38 Menu metho d Y ou ca n save t he featu re code given t o you by your servic e provider so that Send own n umber appears in your phone’s menu, and then us e Menu 4 4 3 to use this feat ure (see ‘Network fea ture set ting’ on page 30). Thi s featu re must be acti v ated b efore ea ch call ; you ca nnot permanently turn it on or off.
39 System Using System , you can choose how your pho ne selects a networ k to use. Th is feature is Menu 5 in y our phone. You have options for System search selection and Digital/analog selection.
40 Automatic answer This feature is a vailable only when your ph one is connected to a headset or to an approved h andsfree car kit equipped with the ignition sense option, with th e ignition on. When a utomatic answ er is turned on , your phone ans wers incoming voice calls after one ring.
41 Saving touch tone strings Touch tone strings can be used fo r sending and receiving information w ith your phone. Save touch tone strings the sam e way yo u sav e phone numb ers (s ee ‘Sa ving na mes a nd numbers’ on page 19).
42 9. Call log For your c onvenienc e, the call log ( Menu 3) sa ves a list of phone numbers you have dialed, and c an show you approximately how mu ch time you have spent on the phone. If you subscribe to the calle r ID netwo rk service, the ca ll log also records the phone numbers of missed calls and received calls.
43 Viewing the missed c alls list at a ny time Use Menu 3 1 to view the missed c alls list at any tim e. To dial a number , press Options , th en choose Call . Received calls If you su bscribe to the caller ID netw ork servic e, your phone automati cally stores the phone nu mbers of the 1 0 most rece nt cal l s you’v e a nswered.
44 Viewin g call ti m e rs Use Menu 3 5 to v iew the various c all timers . Last call displays the duration of the last call, or current call if applicable. All cal ls displays the duration of all calls since th e timers were last reset. Life ti mer displays th e duration of all calls for the life of your phone and cannot be reset.
45 1 0. Voice messages V oice mail is a network service that allows callers to record a mes sage whe n you c a nnot b e reach ed. Y ou can then call your voic e mailbox and retrieve your mess ages. Saving your voice mailbox number When you subscribe to voice mail, your service provider gives you a voice mailbox nu mber .
46 If you received a v oice mailbox passwo rd, and if you saved it with your v oice mailbox n umber , foll ow these steps: 1 When your phone notifies you that you hav e a new voice message, press List en . Your phone dials your voice mailbox number , and your password displays.
47 1 1. Text messages With the t ext me ssa ge netwo rk ser v ice yo u ca n r ec eiv e te xt messages from a variety of sources, such as another wireless phone or a Web site set up by y our service provider .
48 When you’ ve seen th e last new me ssage, the indicator disappears. About the In box The Inbox holds text messages that have not bee n deleted or saved . Use Menu 2 1 1 t o access the Inbox at any time ( you are required to en ter your security code first).
49 12. Extra features Alarm clock The alarm clock feature sounds an alert at a ti me you spec ify . Setti ng the ala rm cloc k Use Menu 7 1 to turn the alarm clock on or off. Note that when you’ re entering th e alarm tim e, use two digits for both hours and m inutes (for example, enter 1:30 as 0 130 ).
50 • T o shut off the alarm, press any key except Snoo ze . The phone displays K eep the phone on? . Press Ye s to keep it on or to switch it off. •I f y o u p r e s s Snooze , the phone turn s itself off for ten minutes , t hen the alarm sounds again.
51 Logic Find the s ecret combination of figures in a colu mn. P ossib le figures are shown at the top of the screen. Pres s the 5 key repea tedly to select a figure and the 2, 4, and 8 k eys to move the cursor . Once you think you have the right combination , press .
52 13. Security featu res Access codes overview Access cod e s consist of the lock code and security code. When you get you r phone, you should change these cod es from their defaults, write dow n the new codes, and keep them in a safe place away from t he phone.
53 Rest rictin g inco ming c a l ls Y ou can block all incoming calls or cre ate a list of incoming numbers from w hich you don’t wa nt to receive calls . To block all incomin g calls, enter you r security code , scroll to Select an d press OK , then press Mar k .
54 The entry is added to your list of restricted num bers. Y our phon e can save up to 15 restric ted incoming numbers. Once you enter 15 restricted numbe rs, the Add restrictio n option is removed from the menu. This option is available aga in once you delete one or more phone numbers from the restricted list.
55 Addin g n umber s to the rest rict ed outgo ing calls list A call restric tion can consist of a n entire phone nu mber , an area code , etc. When th e restriction is selected , calls canno t be made to any nu mber beginning with t hose digits. For exa mple, en tering 2 14555 1234 blocks calls t o (2 14) 555-1234 on ly .
56 Allow in g calls to a numb er on the list If you later de cide to allow calls to a restricted number , scroll to Se lect an d press OK . You can now see y our list of numbers. Press Unmar k to re move the restriction. (The num ber remains in the list so t hat you can restrict it a gain later by pressing Mark .
57 14. Accessori es An ex tensiv e ran ge of a ccessor ies is available for your phone. You can se lect the a ccessori es that be st suit your s pecific communi cation needs. For av ailability , see your local authorized Nokia dealer . A few practical rules for accessory operation: • Keep accessories out of small children's re ach.
58 Changing covers When changing covers, don’t use the phone’s antenna as leverage! 1 Switch off the powe r and disconnect the phon e from the charger or any other device. 2 Using a coin, de press the colored tab on the top of the ph one and slide th e color cover forward.
59 5 Place the bot tom of the cover against the bottom of the phone. Make sure all three set s of plastic tabs line up with their resp ective slot s, as s hown a t left.
