1. General information About your device The wireless device described in this guide is approved for use on the EGSM 900 and GSM 1800 and 1900 networks.
Network services To use the phone you must have service from a wireless service provider. Many of the features require special network features. These features are not available on all networks; other networks may require that you make specific arrangements with your service provider before you can use the network services.

Dialing shortcuts First assign a phone number to on e of the number keys, 2 to 9. See "Assign dialing sh ortcuts," p. 52 . Use a dialing shortcut to make a call in one of th e following ways: ● Press a number key, then the call key.
2. Speak the name of the contact you want to dial. If the voice recognition is successful, a list with matches is shown. The phone pl ays the voice command of the first match on the list. If it is no t the correct comman d, scroll to another entry. Options during a call Many of the options that yo u can use during a call are network services.
Warning: Do not hold the device near your ear when the loudspeaker is in use, because the volume may be extremely loud. 4. Write text Text modes To enter text (for example, wh en writing messages) you can use traditional or predi ctive text input.
Traditional text input Press a number key, 2 to 9 , repeatedly until the desired character appears. The available ch aracters depend on the selected writing language. If the next letter you want is located on the same key as the present one, wait until the cursor appears an d enter the letter.
● To write compound words, enter the first p art of the word, and press the scroll key right to confirm it. Write the last part of the wor d, and confir m the word. 3. Start writing the next word. 5. Navigate the menus The phone offers you an exte nsive range of functi ons that are grouped into menus.

Info messages, SIM messages and service com mands Info messages You can receive messages on various topics from your service provider (network service). For more information, contact your service provider. Select Menu > Messag ing > Info messag es and from the available options.
Voice messages The voice mailbox is a network service to which you may need to subscribe. For more information, contact your service provider. To call your voice mailbox, press and hold 1 . To edit your voice mailbox number, select Menu > Messaging > Voice messages > Voice mailbox number .
● E-mail messages — to allow e-mail reception, t o set the image size in e-mail, and to set up other preferences related to e-mail 7. Contacts You can save na mes, phone numbe rs as contacts in the phone memory and on the SIM card memory and search and recall them to make a phone call or to create a message.
Save names and nu mbers To save a name and phone nu mber, select Menu > Contacts > Names > Options > Add new contact . Add and edit details The first number yo u save is auto matically set as the default number and is indica ted with a frame aro und the number type indicator (for example, ).
Copy or move seve ral contacts between th e SIM card and phone memory 1. Select the first contact to copy or mov e and Optio ns > Mark . 2. Mark the other contacts, and select Options > Copy marked or Move marked . Copy or move all contacts between the SIM card and phone memory Select Menu > Contacts > Copy contacts or Move contacts .

9. Settings Profiles Your phone has various setting groups called profi les, which you can customize with ringing tones for different events and environments.
Tones You can change the tone s ettings of the select ed active profil e. Select Menu > Settings > Tones . You can find the sa me settings in the Pr ofiles menu . If you select the highest ringin g tone level, the ringin g tone reaches its highes t leve l after a few seconds.
● Font size — to set the font size for messaging , contacts, and web pages ● Operato r logo — to disp lay the operator logo ● Cell info display — to display the cell identity, if available.
To select a function from the list, select Menu > Settings > My shortcuts > Left selection key or Right selection key . In the standby mode, if the left selection key is Go to , to activate a.

There may be restrictions on using Bluetooth technology in some locations. Check with you r local authorities or service provider. Features using Bluet ooth technology increase the demand on battery power and redu ce the battery life.
PC connection to the internet Use Bluetooth technology to connect your comp atible PC to the internet without PC Suite software. Y our phone must have activated a service prov ider that supports internet access, and y our PC has to su pport B luetooth personal area network (PAN).
IR connectio n indica tor ● When is shown continuously, the IR connection is activated, and your phone is ready to send or receive data through its IR port. ● When blinks, your phone is t rying to c onnect to th e other device, or a connection has been lost.
Synchronize your calendar , contacts data, and notes with another compatible dev ice, a compatible PC, o r a remote internet server (network service). Transfer contact list To copy or synchronize data from your phone, the name of the phone and the setti ngs must be in the list of transfer contacts.
To use a remote internet server, subscribe to a synchronization service. Fo r more information and the settings required for this service, contact your service provider. You may receive the settings as a configu ration message. See "Configuration setting service," p.
■ Nokia PC Suite With Nokia PC Su ite you can manage y our music, synchronize contacts, calenda r, notes, and to-do notes between your phone and the compatible PC or a remote internet server (network service). You may find more information and PC Suite on the Nokia website.
● Call wait ing — to have the network notify you of an incoming call while you have a call in progress (network service) ● Summary after call — to briefly display the approximate duration after each call ● Send my caller ID — to show your phone number to the person you are calling (network service).
● Welcome note — to write a note that is shown when the phone is switched on ● Flight query — The phone asks ev ery time when it is switched on w hether you want to use th e flight mode. With the flight mode, all radio connections a re switched off.
Warning: If you install a software update, you cannot use the device, even to make emergency calls, until the installation is completed and the device is res tarted.
The software update may take several minutes. If th ere are problems with the installati o n, contact your service provider. Enhancements This menu and its various options are shown only if the phone is or has been connect ed to a compatible mobile enhancement.
● Preferred access point — to view the saved access points ● Connect to servi ce provider suppo rt — to download the configuration settings from your service provider ● Device manager se ttings — to allow or prevent the phone from receiving softwa re updates.
● PIN2 code request — to select whether the PI N2 code is required when using a sp ecific phone feature which is protected by the PIN2 code. Some SIM cards do not allow the code request to be turned off. ● Call barring service — to restrict incoming calls to and outgoing calls from your phone (network service).
● Authority certificat es or User cert ificates — to view the list of the authority or user certificates downloaded into your phone. See "Certificates," p. 95 . ● Security module settin gs — to view Security module details , activate Module PIN request , or cha nge the module PIN and signing PIN.

Memory card Use a memory card to store your multimedia files, such as video clips, music tracks, sound files, images, an d messaging data. Some of the folders in Gallery with co ntent that th e phone uses (for example, Themes ) may be stored on the memory card.

Music files stored in the musi c folder in the phone memory or on the memory card are automatically detected and added to the music library during the startup of the phone. To open the musi c player, select Menu > Media > Music player . ■ Play music tracks Warning: Listen to music at a moderate level.
To fast forward the curren t track, select and hold . To rewind the current track, select and hold . Release the key at the position you want. To stop the music player, press and hold the end key.
● Send — to send the current track by a multimedia message or using Bluetooth t echnology ● Web page — to access a web pa ge associated with the currently played track, which is dimmed if no web page is available.
Search and sa ve stations 1. To start the sea rch, select and hold or . To ch ange the radio frequency in 0.05 MHz steps, briefly press or . 2. To save a station to a memory location, 1 to 9, press and hold the corresponding number key.
Voice recorder Record speech, sound, or an active call, and save them in Gallery . Select Menu > Media > Recorder . To use the graphi cal keys , , or on the display, scroll left or right. Recor d sou nd 1. Select , or during a call, select Opt ions > Re cord .
2. Scroll left or right to access the vi rtual sliders and up or down to adjust the slider. 3. Select Save and Options > Rename to save the settings with a name. Stereo widening Stereo widening creates a wider stereo sound effect when you are using a stereo headset.
To connect to the PTT service, select Menu > Push to talk > Switch PTT on . 14. Organizer Alarm clock To sound an alar m at a desired time. Set the alarm 1. Select Menu > Organi ser > Alarm clo ck . 2. To set the alarm on and to enter the ala rm time select Alarm time .
To stop the alarm, select Stop . If you let the phone continue to sound the alarm for a minute or select Snooze , the alarm stops for the snooze time-out, t hen resumes. Calendar Select Menu > Organiser > Calendar . The current day has a frame ar ound the n umber.
To-do list To save a no te for a task that you m ust do, select Menu > Organiser > To-do list . To make a note if no note is added, select Add note ; otherwise, select Options > Add . Fill in the fields, and select Save . To view a note, scroll to it, and select View .
Calculations 1. Select Menu > Organi ser > Calc ulator . 2. When 0 is displayed on the screen, enter the first number in the ca lculation. Press # for a decimal point. Scroll to the desired operation or function, a nd enter the second number. Repeat this sequence as many times as it is necessary.
Timers Countdown timer 1. To activate the countdown timer, select Menu > Organiser > Timer > Normal timer , enter the alarm time, and write a note that is displayed when the t ime expires. To change the countdown time, select Change time . 2.
● Lap tim ing — to take lap times ● Continue — to view the timing that you have set in the backgroun d ● Show last — to view the m ost recently measured time if the stopwatch is not reset ● View times or Delete times — to view or delete the saved times To set the stopwatch tim ing in the background, press the end key.
● Update ver sion — to verify that a new version of the application is available fo r download from the web (network service) ● Web page — to provide further information or additional data for the application from an i nternet page (network service), if available ● App.
