If you ever need to call Nokia Cu stomer Care, Nokia Customer Interaction Center, or your wireless service provider , you will need to provide specific information from your phone ’ s label.
[ 7 ] About your phone 3 About your ph one This section gives you a brief introduction to your phone and provides you with quick steps for making, answering, and managing your calls. The rest of this user guide provides c omplete details on phone use.
[ 8 ] • ANTENNAS Your phone has three antennas: • The internal antenna is always active. • The whip antenna is active w hen fully extended. • The GPS antenna is also internal and is activated when placing emergency calls or when Share location is selected from th e Location privacy feature.
[ 9 ] About your phone Remove Y ou will need to remove the existing battery if you want to install a new battery or if you have purchased a spare battery . Make sure the phone has been turned off for 1 0 seconds. 1 Remove the back cover of the phone as shown in the figure on page 8.
[ 1 0 ] • THE SOFT KEYS Note the two soft keys beneath the sc reen. The function of these keys is determined by the word shown above them on the screen. For example, pressing th e Left soft key when Men u appears above it shows the fi rst of many menus.

[ 12 ] • BROWSE PHONE MENUS Y our phone menu system displays choices you can make to change settings on your phone or gives you access to various phone features. Your phone has 1 0 menus, plus the phone book menu ( Contacts ). Each menu can contain several levels of subm enus.

[ 14 ] 4 Phone setup Now that you have had a chance to learn about some of the basic functions and features of your phone, you may want to explore a few options to improve the way you use your phone. • THE HS-5 HE ADSET Y our sales package may include th e HS-5 headset.
[ 15 ] Text entry 5 Text entry War ni ng ! Do not switch on the phone when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference or danger . You can enter letters, numbers, and special characters using the phone keypad when working with the phone book, calendar , text messaging, or while browsing the Internet.
[ 16 ] Pressing a key repeat edly cycles you through all of that key options. T o enter a letter , press the appropriate key repeatedly unt il the desired letter appears.
[ 17 ] Text entry Enter punctuation and other characters You can ent er punctuation, specials c haracters, and symbols while writing text messages , entering note s in the orga nizer , creating phone book entries, or Internet browsing.
[ 18 ] KEYS AN D TOOLS FOR PREDICT IVE TEXT Turn on pr edictiv e text inpu t Y ou can turn on predictive text input from the O ptions menu while writing a text message. Once enabled, predictive text is available to all features that support it. in upper left corner of the screen indicates predict ive text is active.
[ 19 ] Text entry Tu rn off predicti ve text input While creating a new text message, press and hold the Options key for two se conds. OR 1 Press Options , scroll to Predictive text, and press Select .

Y ou can save up t o 500 entries (contacts and associated numbers) in your phone book. Phone memory can store multiple numbers for each name (h ome, business, mobile, etc.
[ 2 1 ] Phone book • PHONE BOOK MENUS The phone book has several menu options from which you can choose. These options appear when you press Contac ts .
[ 22 ] • ADD A N UMBER TO A PH ONE BOOK ENTRY There are several ways to add additional numbers to an existing phone book entry . Phone memory can store up to two numbers per entry . Once you choose to add a number , you can assign one of the following numb er t yp es for the additional numbers: Gen eral , Mobile , Home , Work , or Fax .
[ 23 ] Phone book The pr imary numb er If a phone book entry contains multiple numbers, the number entered when the phone bo ok entry was created is designated as the prima r y number . When you highlight a phone book entry and press the Send key, y our phone dials the primary number .
[ 24 ] 4 Scroll to the type of information you would like to add ( E-mail , St reet addr . , etc.), and press Select . 5 Enter the information , a nd press OK . Press the End key to re turn to the start screen. • USE CALLER GROUPS Y our phone allows you to group phone book entr ie s with similar attributes into caller groups .
[ 25 ] Call log 7C a l l l o g War ni ng ! Do not switch on the phone when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference or danger . Y our phone keeps a log (record) of call-related information including phone numbers and call times.
[ 26 ] MISSED CALLS When you miss calls, Missed calls appears on your phone screen along with th e number of calls missed. Important : You are notified of missed calls only if your phone was turned on and you are in a digital service area.
[ 27 ] Call log 2 Use the scroll keys to scroll through the following options: • TURN ON A CURRENT CALL TIMER Y our phone can display a c all timer showing elapsed t ime of the current ca ll. When the call is completed, the timer displays the call length.
[ 28 ] Access data-r elated cal l timer • For data/fax call timers, press Menu 2-6 ( Call log > Data/fax calls ) • For minibrowser call timers, press Menu 2-7 ( Call log > Minibrowser calls .
[ 29 ] V oice mailbox 8 V oice mailbox War ni ng ! Do not switch on the phone when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference or danger . V oice mail is a feature that enables those who call you to leave a voice message in the event you are unable to answer your phone.
[ 30 ] 9 Text messag es War ni ng ! Do not switch on the phone when wireless phone use is pr ohibited or when it may caus e interference or danger . You can use the Messa ges me nu (Menu 1) and s hort message service (SMS) to read, write, and send text messages to another phone in your network.
[ 3 1 ] Text messages USE OTH ER OP TION S Y ou may use the following as a short cut for sending a new text message: 1 Enter the recipie nt ’ s phone number , and pr ess Options . 2 Scroll to Send message, and press Select . Cont inue t he creation process as described.
[ 32 ] Enhanced messagin g o ptions Enhanced messaging functions in the same manner as text messaging, but it offers additional options for the style and content of tex t messages. Note: Enhanced messaging services are not supported by all networks or providers.
[ 33 ] Text messages • E-MAIL Y ou can also use the Messages menu to write and send text messages to a person ’ s Intern et or corporate e-mail account or to phones in other networks.
[ 34 ] • RESPOND T O A MESSAGE Y ou have several options when reading a text message. Pr ess Options to display the following list of choices: Note: Some of these options may not be visible. For example, U se Web link appears only when a URL is present in an SMS message.
[ 35 ] Text messages E-mail message Use the methods described above for replying to SMS messages sent from an e-mail address. Note: If t he in coming e-ma il mes sage i s impr oper ly form atted, you ma y be re quir ed to re- enter the e-m ail a ddre ss.
[ 36 ] View message setti ngs Y ou can assign several settings to the text messages (new messages, replies, or forwarded messages). The followi ng sett ings are avail able fro m the mes sage O ptions menu: • Urgen t send s the message marked urgent and appears in recipient ’ s Inbox with higher priori ty than other m essages.
[ 37 ] Text messages Outbox — Messages that cannot be sent immediately can be saved so you c an come back to it later . Y our phone stores the message in Outbox . If you try to send a text message and th e network is unavailable, the outgoing message will be saved in Outbox .
[ 38 ] 10 Pe r s o n a l i z a t i o n War ni ng ! Do not switch on the phone when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference or danger . • LEARN ABOUT PROFILES A profile refers to a group of set t ings you can use to customize the way your phone works.
[ 39 ] Pe rsonalization 2 Scroll to one of the ringing options described below , and press Sel e ct . Important : The Silent or Beep once ringing option disables any melody you choose. To hear a ringing tone while editing a profile, make sure one of t he other ringing options is selected.
[ 40 ] HEADSET The following options are available. Scroll t o the option of your choice and press Select to e nter the option ’ s submenu and modify its settings. Defau lt pro file — Choose the profile you wish to be automatically activated when y our phone is connected to a car kit.
[ 4 1 ] Pe rsonalization Manually set the clock 1 Press Menu 4-3-1 ( Set tings > Time settings > Clock ). 2 Scroll to Set the time , and pr ess Select . 3 Enter the current ti me, and p ress Select . For example, to enter 7:30, enter 0730. 4 Scroll to am or pm , and press OK .

[ 44 ] Feature codes Your network requires separate codes for activating and cancelling the various types of call forwarding. Y our service provider can provide you with th e necessary feature codes for thes e network services.
[ 45 ] Advanced features 3 Highlight Activate and press Sele ct . 4 Enter the number to which you want your calls forwarded (or press Search t o recall a number from the phone book), and press OK . Y our phone calls the network to activate or cancel the feature you have requested.
[ 46 ] • SEND OWN CALLER I D WHEN CALLING This feature allows you to block caller ID when you call someone (your number will not be displayed on their caller ID).
[ 47 ] Advanced features • CALLING CARD If you wish to use a calling card for long dis tance calls, you can first save your calling card information into your phone. Your phone is equipped to handle up to four calling cards. Save card information 1 Press Menu 4-1-7 ( Settings > Call sett ings > Calling card ).
[ 48 ] • VO I C E D I A L I N G You can dial up to 25 stored phone book numbers using the voice dialing feature. Before you can place a call using voice dialing, you must first assign a voice tag to the number . Before using voice dialing, note: • V oice tags are not language — dependent.
[ 49 ] Advanced features War ni ng ! Do not use a voice tag for dialing emergency numbers. In emergencies, stress causes changes in your voic e, which may keep the phone from recognizing your voice command. Dialin g a number using voi ce dialin g Note: You must say the name exact ly as you said it when you recorded it.
[ 50 ] Assign a number If you want to assign a number t o one of the number keys (2 — 9), do the following: 1 Select Contact s > 1-touch dialing . 2 Scroll to the desired number key ( 2 — 9 ), and press Assig n . If a phone number is already assigned to a key , the phone book entry name is displayed and the L eft soft key is Options .
[ 5 1 ] Advanced features • TOU CH T ONE S Touch tones (sometimes kn own as DTMF tones) are those tones pr oduced when you press the keys on your phone keypad. Y ou can use touch tones for many automated dial-up services such as banking and airlines or for entering your voice mailbox number and password.
[ 52 ] Store with p hone n umber Y ou can store touch tone strings (for example, voice mailbox number and PIN code) as a part of a phone book entry . Once the string is stored, it is sent automatically (instead of entering the touch tones from the keypad).
[ 53 ] Advanced features • V O ICE RECORDER Voice record er allows you record audio memos and store them in your phone. Use this fea ture to record phone numbers and personal memos. Total time available for all memos is three minutes. Maximum length of a single message is one minute, up to 60 seconds.

[ 55 ] Security and System settings 3 Enter the new five-digit security code, and pr ess OK . 4 Reenter the new five-digit s ecurity code for verification , and press OK .
[ 56 ] ALLOWED NUMBER When phone lock is on, the only outgoing calls that can be made are to the following numbers: • The emergency number programmed into your phone (for example, 91 1 or other official emergency number). • The numb er st ored in the Allowed number when ph one locked lo ca tion .
[ 57 ] Security and System settings 4 Enter the number string you wis h t o restrict and pr es s OK . For example: If you wish to r estrict all calls that begin with 1, en ter 1 . If you wish to restrict all calls that begin with 1972, enter 1972. If you wish to r estrict all calls that begin with 214, enter 2 14.
[ 58 ] • GPS (L OCATION PRIV ACY) The GPS feature allows the phone to share position inf ormation over the network. For calls to emergency numbers, this position information may be used by the emergency operator to determine the position of the phone.
[ 59 ] Security and System settings Roami ng option s The menu options you see in your phone are based on your service provider ’ s networ k. Their network determines which options actually appear in the phone menu.
[ 60 ] 13 Organizer Y our phone has a calendar , alarm clock, stopwatch, and contact database — everything you need in an organizer or personal digital assistant. • ALARM C LOCK Y our phone alarm clock can be set to sound an alarm at a time you specify.
[ 6 1 ] Organizer You can use your phone calendar to record notes to remind you of appoint ments such as meetings, phone calls, birthdays, or general r em ind er s.
[ 62 ] 4 Enter the second n umber . Repeat steps 3 as many times as necessary . A subtotal is shown after you enter the next operand (+, -, *, or /). 5 For a total, press Options twice. 6 To start a new calculation, press and hold Clea r for 2 seconds.
[ 63 ] Organizer Lap timi ng The lap time function allows you to measur e the amount of time it takes to complete a cycle or lap. To measure lap time: Select Organizer > St opwatch > Lap timing > Start . The running time appears on th e display.

[ 66 ] 16 Y our p hone and other devices If interacting with, or connecting to a computer using the DKU-5 serial cable, your phone can exchange information with other desktop and laptop PCs. Your phone can also function as a wireless modem when connected to PCs.

Important : This feature is available only if your service provider ’ s network s upports mobile internet access.
[ 68 ] • MINI BROWSER MENU While browsing, press and release the power key to display the minibrowser menu: Reload — R eloads informat ion for current p age. Home — Returns you t o the Home p age. Bookmarks — Displays a list of bookmarks you h av e saved.
[ 69 ] Minibrowser • BOOKMARKS Y ou can create a bookmark for a page so that you can quickly return to that page later . Y ou may also be able to create bookmarks using your personal account at your service provider ’ s web site. BOOKMARK A PAGE 1 Go to the page for which you want to set a bookmark.
