Page 3 Chapter 2: Getting Started Charging the Scanner’s Battery In order to operate the Scan ner and th e 2-Way Injector f rom battery power, the battery must f i rst be charged . You can run th e units f rom the A C adapter u n til the charg i n g cycle is complete.
To remove th e Ni-Cd battery pack, p lace the Scann er o r Injector face d own and slide the arro w- shaped tab downward . Then lif t the battery pack up towards you . To in stall the battery pack, in sert the two tabs o n the to p o f the battery in the Scanner an d press do wn on th e battery pack until it clicks into plac e.

Editing Test Limits To di sp lay the EDIT LIM I TS screen, p ress th e Extended Functions key, then select Setup Autote st , then hig h light the A utotest to ed it, then p ress Edit (F2), then select Limits. This screen lets you specify th e PASS/FAIL limits used in tests.

Resistance is said to f ail if measured valu es o n pairs used b y the selected netwo rk type are greater than the resistance for a maximum length loop (100 meters for most networks).

While in Au tomatic Increment mo de, you can manually incremen t the last character by p r essin g the Scanner’s ENTER key. In ad dition , you can use th e Ï and Ð keys to move to an y character in the Circuit ID, and yo u can use th e Ñ key to manu ally in cremen t (or the Ò key to decremen t) the character at th e cu rsor.

Ref er to Appendix C: Pin- outs for the ca ble pin-out spe cifica tions. Also, ma ke sure that XO N/XOF F hands haking is supported.
1. Connec t the D B-9 end of t he com munica tions cable to th e serial p ort on th e Scanner an d the other e nd (DB-9 or D B-25) to the seria l port on the PC. 2. Turn off the Sc anner and plug the AC ada pter in to the Scan n er. 3. Hold down the AUTOTEST key and the Find Cable Faults key and press th e On/Off key.

Page 41 Wire Map for Both Ends of the Link The Injector plays an integral part in determining the wire map for a given link. With the Scanner and the Injector connected at opposite ends of a link or cable, the wire map can be determined.
Chapter 6: Measure Cable Performance Measure Cable Performance lets you run indiv idual t ests such a s NEXT, Att enuat ion, Length /Delay, Imped ance, Lo o p Resistance, Capacitance, I mpulse No ise and Peak to Peak Noise. Press the Measure Cabl e Per formance key to d i sp lay a list of the tests to run.

The pairs are shown on the left a nd the Pe ak- to-Pe ak N oise va lues a re show n on the r ight. If the Peak-to-Peak noise level exceeds 3,000 mV, OVR (Overrange) is disp layed .
