T his fully automatic, wrist style blood pressur e monitor is both easy to use and ideally suited for daily measurements . 6 How the 1140 W orks Y our model 1140 uses the oscillometric method to detect your blood pressure . Befor e the cuff star ts inflating, the device will establish a baseline cuff pressur e , whic h is equivalent to the air pressur e . T he measurement of your blood pressur e is based on this baseline pressur e .
7 About Blood Pressure What is Blood Pressure? Blood pressur e is the pressure exerted on the ar ter y tube while blood f lows through the ar teries. The pressure measured when the hear t contracts and sends blood out of the hear t is systolic (highest).
8 Blood Pressure Standard T he World Health Organization (WHO) has dev eloped a blood pressure standard, according to which areas of low- and high-risk blood pressure are identified. This standard, howe ver , is a general guideline and blood pressures vary between different people, age groups, etc.
9 Blood Pressure Fluctuation Blood pressure fluctuates all the time! Y ou should not be ov erly worried if you encounter two or three measurements at high levels. Blood pressur e chang es o ver the month and even throughout the day . It is also influenced by season and temperatur e .

13 Installing Batteries 1. Slide batter y co ver off . 2. Install lower batter y first. Ensure correct polarity . Batter y T ype: 2 Alkaline ‘ AAA ’ size 3. R e place the co ver . Replace the batteries if: 1. T he weak batter y mark appears in the display 2.
14 Applying the Cuff 1. R emo v e all watches, jewelry , etc. prior to attaching the wrist monitor . Clothing sleeves should be rolled up and the cuff should be wrapped on bare skin for correct measurements. 2. Apply cuf f to left wrist with palm facing up as Fig.
15 Applying the Cuff If the cuff is not wrapped tight enough, the measurement values will be false . 5. T he measurement values will be correct even if you wrap the cuf f aske w . 6. If your physician has diagnosed you with poor circulation on your left ar m, carefully place the cuff around your right wrist as shown in Fig.
16 Correct Measuring Posture 1. Place your elbow on a table so that the cuff is at the same lev el as your hear t as Fig. A. Note: Y our hear t is located slightly below your ar mpit. R elax your entire body , especially the area between your elbow and fingers .

19 Helpful T ips Here ar e a few helpful tips to help y ou obtain more accur ate readings: • Do not measure your blood pressure immediately after consuming a lar ge meal. T o obtain more accurate readings , please wait one hour before measuring. • Do not smoke or drink alcohol before measuring y our blood pressure .
20 Measurement Procedure 1. Place the cuff on the wrist. Press the POWER ke y . All digits will light up , checking the display functions. The checking procedure will complete after about 2 seconds. 2. After all symbols appear , the display will show a " 0 ".
21 Measurement Procedure Note 1: This monitor automatically switches off appro ximately 3 minutes after last key operation. Note 2: T o interrupt the measurement, simply press an y ke y . The cuff will def late immediately after a ke y is pressed. Note 3: During the measurement, do not talk or mov e your ar m or hand muscles.
22 Storing V alues in and Recalling V alues from Memory 1. T he Monitor has two Memor y Zones (1 and 2). Each zone can store up to 30 measurements. 2. T o store values, use the User - Switching or Time-Setting Key " " t o select a Memor y Zone (1 or 2) to store the values in.

24 T ime Adjustment 1. While the Blood Pressure Monitor is turned on, press and hold the Time-Setting ke y for 3 seconds until the date/time disappears. Once you release the ke y , the display will show a blinking number showing the year . 2. Change the year using the Memor y o r the R ecall K eys.
25 T ime Adjustment 4. A "0" will reappear as the Blood Pressur e Monitor is read y for measurement again..
