Information 1 About Satellite Navigation Global satellit e navigation is an exciting technology, providing enha nced productivity and acc uracy in a vast number of industries. It adds a new level of enjoym ent and safety to a wide range of navigation, sports, and recrea tional activities.
Information 2 using signal corrections from a network of ground stations and fixed-position satellites known as WAAS ( Wide-Area Augmentation System). Throughout Eu rope a similar system, EGNOS (European Geostationary Navi gation Overlay System), provides the same accuracy.
Information 3 continuously review, correct , and improve upon their map data. We r elease ne w versions of our maps on a regular basis to reflect thes e changes. After processi ng the data, we test t he compatibility of th e map with our GPS devices to e nsure that the pro ducts we release work properly on our GPS devices.

Installation 7 T ake care when mounting the Magellan RoadMate in your vehi cle, whether using the windshield mount or oth er mount, that it does not obstruct the driver ’ s view o f the road. Make sure that the placement of the Magellan RoadMate and cable does not interfere with the operation of vehicle safety devices, such as air bags.
Installation 8 Plug the power cable into the cradle. Plug the cigarette lighter connec tor into an appropriate 12V r eceptacle in your car . Rotate the antenn a upward. Installation is comple te, and you are ready to turn the Magellan RoadMate on and go .
POI Manager 9 Overview The Magellan RoadMate 760 comes with Magel lan RoadMate POI Manager Software. This allows you to add custom POIs to your Magellan RoadMate. Y ou can add things such as friends’ houses and other favori te places that ar e not in the installed database.
POI Manager 10 Longitude Conversely , longitud e lines can be expressed by dividing Earth into vert ical segments totalling 360 degrees. Starting at the Prime Meridian (which is The Royal Observ atory in Greenwich, England), or zero de grees Longitude, lines are drawn in 10- degree increments 180 degrees to the W est and 180 degrees to th e East.
POI Manager 11 Altitude Each location also must have an Altitude . Altitude is expressed by how far the poin t is above or below the level of the ocean, or Sea Level. For example, Los Angeles, California is about 30 0 feet above sea leve l. Death V alley , California is about 270 feet below se a level.
POI Manager 12 Installation Insert the POI Man ager CD into your PC’ s CD drive. The setup applica tion will begin automatically . If it does not, browse your computer’ s CD drive and double-click on the setup.exe file. Select a defaul t language for the A pplication.
POI Manager 13 Next, choose a Program Folder to place the application icons. THe Magellan RoadMate POI Manager software will be installed. When it has finished, to can have the installer launch the application automatically , or dese lec t to exit without launch ing the application.
POI Manager 14 Connecting Your Magellan RoadMate The standard cradle is equipped with po rts for connecting the Magellan RoadMate to a personal computer and external power .
POI Manager 15 Once you have finished creating POI’ s, select the category or categories you wi sh to upload and click on the right arrow to add them to the Save and T ransfer window . Click on th e Save butt on. Y ou are given the option of saving the POIs ei ther to your computer (for later transfer) or directly to your Magellan RoadMate .
POI Manager 16 The POIs are uploaded to your Magellan RoadMate. T o access the new POIs on your Magellan Ro adMate, refer to page 81 . Adding Mult iple POIs The POI Manager software sup ports ASCII file format (.ASC, . CSV ,.TXT); GPS Exchange f ile format (.
POI Manager 17 Define the data separator . Clic k Next . Assign a title to each field. Y o u must have a latit ude, a longitude, and a n ame. Click Finish . If there are any er rors in the data you can view the m. Otherwise, click No . The POI file has been imported and is read y to upload to your Magellan RoadMate.
POI Manager 18 Select the POI file and click the right arrow . Click the Save button. Y ou are given the option of sa vin g the POIs either t o your computer (for later transfer) or directly t o your Magellan RoadM ate. Select the Save to My Magellan RoadMate button .
Basic Operation 19 Turning the Magellan RoadMate On Press the Power Button. If power is properly connected, a logo sc reen is displayed, followed by the W arning screen. Select the desired User . The Magell an RoadMate can be persona lized for three differe nt users.
Basic Operation 20 Adjusting the Volume The volume control is located at the top of the Magellan RoadMate. Use the thumbwheel to set the volume of the speak er to a desired level. See “Rear View” on page 5. Repeating the Last Command If you missed the last ve rbal command, you can repe at it by pressing the Repeat button.
Basic Operation 21 Numerical Characters (“123” Button) When available, pressing the 123 button brings up a keypad wi th the num eric characters shown here. What Is QuickSpell? The Magellan RoadMate uses QuickSpell t echn ology to provide you with the fa stes t method possible to enter characters.
Basic Operation 22 Select the spacebar . When enough characters have been entere d, the Magellan RoadMate will automatically display the list of cities; or , if you fe el that enough characters have been entered, select OK . Use the Navigation key to scroll the list up or down and select “San Francisco, CA” from the list.
Tr a v e l i n g 23 Guidance Information Screens The Magellan RoadMate has three scre ens you can use to assist you in travelling t o your de stination: the Map screen, the Maneuver List screen, and the T r ue View 3D/Split T rueView scree n. Map : When a new destination is selected an d calculated, the Map screen is displaye d.
Tr a v e l i n g 24 Map Screen The Map screen is the most commonly used screen in the M agellan RoadMate and pr ovides yo u with d etailed information about where you are a nd where you are going. † By touching the POI icon on the screen , you can get information and route to it.
Tr a v e l i n g 25 Maneuver List Screen The Maneuve r List screen can be view ed only after a route has been calcul ated. From the Map screen, press the View button to bring up a list of all of the maneuvers along the route.
Tr a v e l i n g 26 In split mode, the le ft half of the screen shows T rueView 3D , while the right half of the scree n shows the Map. Detouring from the Planned Route If you exit the pl anned route, the Magel lan Road Mate will get you back on course in one of two ways.
Tr a v e l i n g 27 The trip will be recalculated, excluding the sele cted maneuver . This calculation is done usin g the same Route Method that was chosen origin ally .
Tr a v e l i n g 28 The information about your lo cation is displayed. Select Edit Name and/ or Edit Inform ation and use the keyp ad to assign a n ame to the loca tion and othe r informatio n about it. If the point yo u are saving is off-road, the neares t road inform ation will be used.
Tr a v e l i n g 29 The Magellan RoadMate will calculate a new ro ut e to the selected POI from you r current position. When you have arrived at the new d estination, you will be prompted t o resume guidance to your original destination. Select Res ume .

Selecting Destinations 32 Choosing the Route Method Every route is calculated based on the Route Method criteria sel ected. Every time a new dest ination is selected, the Magellan RoadMate prompts you for the method that will be used to calculate the route.
Selecting Destinations 33 Changing the Route Method While viewing the Map screen, the Mane uver List screen, or the T rueView 3D screen, press the Cancel button. Select Route . Select the new Route Method. The route will be re-ca lculated using the new Ro ute Method chosen and the Map screen will be displayed.
Selecting Destinations 34 Cancelling a Planned Route While viewing the Map screen, the Mane uver List screen, or the T rueView 3D screen, press the Cancel button. Select Ye s to cancel the route and display the Select Destination screen. Select No returns the di splay to the last viewed screen.
Selecting Destinations 35 Selecting a Destination Using Select Address A destination can be created by entering th e street address th at you want to go to . This address is not automatically added your Address Book but is saved to your Previous Destinatio ns list.
Selecting Destinations 36 Use the Navigation key to scroll the list up or down (if necessary) and select the desired street. Enter the street address. The acceptable rang e of numbers is displayed at the top of the screen. Select Done . Select the desired Route Meth od.

Selecting Destinations 40 Selecting a Destination Using the Address Book The Address Book can store up to 200 addresses for each of th e t hree users you have available.
Selecting Destinations 41 The Magellan RoadMate will calculate the route. When the ca lculatio ns are complete, the Map screen will be disp layed. Saving a Previous Destination to the Address Book From the Select Destination screen, se lect Address Book .
Selecting Destinations 42 When you have finished making changes, select Save . The address is saved to the Address Book. The Previous Destination screen is displayed to continue the routing to the pr evious destination. Select Route . Select the desired Route Meth od.
Selecting Destinations 43 Use the Navigation key to scroll the list up or down (if necessary) and select the desired previous destina tion. Select Delete . A dialog box will appear to con firm your selection. Select Ye s . The Previous Desti nation is deleted from th e list.

Selecting Destinations 50 Use the Navigation key to scroll the list up or down (if necessary) and select the desired previous destina tion. Select Delete . A dialog box will appear to con firm your selection. Select Ye s . The Previous De stination is deleted from the li st and you are returned to the Address Book screen.
Selecting Destinations 51 Select Search by City . Enter the firs t few characters in the city name and select OK . Use the Navigation key to scroll the list up or down (if necessary) and select the desired city . Enter the first fe w characters for the stree t name and select OK .

Note: Selecting the second destination in th e list will exclude th e first destination, selecting the third destination in the list will exclude the first and second destinations, and so on.

Select t he destination you wish to chang e, and select Mo ve Up from the pop-up men u. When you have finished, select Save and you are returned to the T rip Planner screen.

Selecting Destinations 63 Selecting a Point of Inte rest as a Destination Points of Interest (or POIs) ar e commercial or recreati onal locations, landmar ks, or serv ices that are preloaded into the Magellan RoadMate database.

Selecting Destinations 71 Selecting an Intersect ion as a Destination An intersection of two streets can be used as a destination for your trip. Th e se arch for the intersection can be done whether or not you know the city . If you know the city , you can start th ere; if you are unsure of the ci ty , you ca n start with the stat e.

Options 76 The Options menu of the Magellan RoadMate enables yo u with enhanced features to customize your Magellan RoadMate. Additionally , it provides features to a ssist you in learning how to operate the most common functions and in contacting a Support Representative should you need more detailed assistance.
Options 77 Trip Computer The T rip Computer is a valuab le tool for recording the mil eage and time spent driving while on business or vacation. The information for t he trip can be saved and viewed at any time, providing you easy acce ss to informat ion on your current trip, as well as previous trips.
Options 78 While the T rip Computer is in a “Stopped” state, select Start to continue reco rding the current trip or select re set to begin a new trip. Saving the Current T rip Report When you have finished with yo ur trip, you can save the information for later viewing.
Options 79 The saved T rip Report is displayed. Press the Cancel button when you are finished to view the trip and retu rn to the T rip Com puter screen. Deleting a T rip Repor t Select the T rip Report to be d eleted. Select Delete . The trip is deleted an d you are returned to the T rip Computer screen .
Options 80 Configuration The configuration options can be se t differently for each user . From any screen, press the Option button and select Configurati on . POI Selection From the POI Selection menu, yo u can choose which icons to display on the Ma p screen.
Options 81 Custom POIs The Custom POI menu enab les you to select POIs previously loaded in to your Magellan RoadM ate using the Magellan RoadMate POI Manager software. See “Appli cation” on pa ge 14. The instructions follo wing instructions are assuming that you have loaded one or more PO Is into your Magellan RoadMate.
Options 82 When you have finished, press the Cancel button to retu rn to the Custom POIs menu. Y ou ca n also be alerted when you approach a custom POI. Th e Set Alarm function wo rks for Custom POIs only and only if the POI has been selected to sh ow on the M ap screen.
Options 83 The Detection Angle is set to alert you when you are within so many degrees of the POI. Select Detection Angle . Use the numeric keypad to enter the number of degrees i n which to set the alert.
Options 84 The First W arning is set to alert you when you ar e within a certain number of f eet from the POI. Select First W arning . Use the numeric keypad to enter the number of feet in which to alert you.
Options 85 The Last W arning is set as a final alert when you are within a certain number of feet from the POI. Select Last W arning . Use the numeric keypad to enter the number of feet in which to alert you. When you have finished, select OK . When you have set the parameters as you like, se lect Save .
Options 86 Map Options Map Options ena ble you to determine the be havior of the Map while you are driving. Select Map Options . With Map Smart selected, the Map screen will automatically switch to the Maneuve r List and/or the T rueView 3D screen when appl icable.
Options 87 Heading Up sets the map display so th at the direction of travel is always at the top of the screen. Nort h Up sets the map display so that North is always at the top of the screen. Select Miles or Kilometers as the unit of measure for distance.
Options 88 Select from nine available color schemes: When you have finished, select Save and you will b e returned to the Configurati on menu. Route Preferences Route Prefer ences enable you to set paramete rs for the Magellan RoadM ate to follow when calculating a route.
Options 89 Automatic Re-Route will cause the Magell an RoadMate to try up to th ree times to automatica lly re-route to the destination when it has detected that the ve hicl e has deterred from the calculated route. Detour Options The Magella n RoadMate comes eq uipped with Smart Detour .
Options 90 Next, select the amount of time the Magellan RoadMate will wai t before alerting you to recalculate the route. Select the Ti m e but ton. Enter the number of minutes and select OK . Select Enable automatic de tour . When you have finished, select Save .
Options 91 V oice Options From the voi ce options me nu, you can sel ect to have your voice prompts announ ced in either a male or a female voice in the language currently enabled (refer to “L anguage” on page 95). Additionally , you can also have the Magellan RoadMate speak the street name of the next maneuver .
Options 92 Menu Colors Y ou ca n change the color of the menu screen s by selecting one of f our color scheme s. Select Menu Colors . Select the desired color scheme. When you have finished, select Save . Contrast Contrast dete rmines the level of di fference between light and dark colors.
Options 93 Brightness Brightness determines h ow bright or dim the level of the display will b e. Select Brightness . Select the left arrow to decrease the amount of brightness (make the disp lay darker), or select the right arrow to incr ease the am ount of brightness (make th e display lighter).
Options 94 Select Auto Power Off . When you are finished, select Save . To n e O p t i o n s As you approach a maneuver , an audible alert so unds to let you know to make the maneuver . Select To n e O p t i o n s . Select either Bell , Chime , or Beep .
Options 95 Language Y ou can select to have the menus displayed in one of 12 lang uages. Also, audible voice prom pts will be sp oken in the selected langua ge.
Options 96 T ouch Screen T est T ouch Scre en T est checks that the to uch screen is calibrated and accurate. Keypad T est Keypad T est verifies proper operation of the keypad. Audio T est checks that the speaker is working correctly . GPS Status monitors the sat ellite signal.
Options 97 Set GPS Position Set GPS Position enables you to manually set the location of the Current Position icon . If you have travelled a long distan ce with the unit off, it may take some time for the u nit to reacquire a sat ellite signal.
Options 98 Go to the Map screen. Y our current po sition is now se t to the address you entered. Simulato r Mode In Simulato r Mode, you can demon strate th e capabilities of the Magellan RoadMate without actually dr iving. In order for the simu lation to work, you must set a route first.
Options 99 Select Edit User Name . Use the keypad to delete the existing user na me and e nter the desired name for th e selected user . When you have finished, select OK and you will be returned to the Configur ation menu. Next time you start your Ma gellan RoadMate, the name you entered will be displa yed.
Options 100 Select Europe and then select Unlock . Select Code . Use the keypad to enter the unlock co de. W hen you have finished, select OK . Select Unlock . The database is un locked. Select OK. Select Europe and then select Switch . Note: If you have a Compact Flash (CF) card inserted, you must remove it before switching maps.
Options 101 Select Ye s . After the unit has powered down , turn the unit back on and the new map will begi n loading. When it has fi nished, you will have access to the European maps. Also note that the user interface will be slightly different. Safety Locko ut The Safety Lockout feature disabl es any user input while th e vehicle is in mo tion.
Options 102 Use the keypad to enter a password of up to six characters. Y ou can use le tters or numbers, or a combination of both. When you have finished, select OK .
Options 103 Select Enable . When you have finished, select Save . Backup and Restore The Magellan RoadMate 760 has the capability to back up your in formation (Address Book, Previous Destinations, etc.
Options 104 A dialog box will appear , stating that your info rmation is being restored, and the unit will shut off automatic ally . T urn th e un it back on, and your informatio n and preferences are restored.
Options 105 Tutorial The Magellan RoadMate has a built-in T utori al that you can view or refer to anytim e the Magellan RoadMate is turned on. Do not use the tuto rial while you are driving. If you are operati ng the vehicle , please come t o a complete s top before revi ewing the tutorial to pics.
Options 106 Help Select Help . Customer Support phon e numbers for United States, Cana da, an d Europe are displayed. See page 107 for more information.
