Magellan RoadMate 1 Magellan RoadMate The Magellan RoadMate is a vehicle navigation product th at utilizes GPS signals from satellites to calculate your precise location and co mpute details about its travel.

Installation 3 Installation Instructions Installation of the Magellan RoadMate is simple and easy . The hardest part will be picking the best location. Selecting the Location A few tips on selecting the prop er location. • Mount the Magellan RoadMate in a place where it can be easily seen and will not interfere with your view of the road.
Installation 4 Align the tabs on the cradle to the indents on the bottom of the Magellan RoadMate. Swivel the cradle up so that it is flush against the back of the receiver and snap it into place. Adjust the Mount for Optimum Viewing Loosen the adjustment l ocking knobs and position the Magellan RoadMate fo r optimum viewing.
Installation 5 Country Selection Depending on the Mage llan RoadMate you are using, the preloade d map may cover several co untries. When using the Magella n RoadMate, you m ust ensure that the correct country is first selected. Y ou can only search for addresses or POIs in the se lected country .
Fundamentals 6 Fundamentals Powering on the Magellan RoadMate The On/Off button is located on th e bottom right side of the Mage llan RoadMate as shown in the Overview chapter . T urning the Magellan RoadMate On 1. Press and hold the On/Off button for 1-2 seconds.

T ap Vo l u m e . 6. T ap on the Mute button to mute the volume or tap inside the volume adjust bar below the Mute button to change the volume levels.

Fundamentals 10 The Keypad Understanding the keypad while entering an addres s is an important part of using your Magell an RoadMate. The keypad i s the most common means of entering data into the Magellan RoadMate.
Fundamentals 11 Notes on Entering Data If you are having trouble getting the results you expected here are a few useful tips. • Make sure that you have spelle d the name correctly . If you are unsure of the spelling, just enter a few characters and tap “OK”.
Map Screen 12 Map Scr een The most commonly used screen will be the Map screen. Whether on a route or just travelling around town, chances are the Map screen will be displayed. There are two unique mod es that the Map screen can be displayed in; n ormal and routing.

Map Sc reen 14 Accessing the Map Screen 1. On the Main Menu, tap Show Map. 2D Mode The map is normally displayed in 3D mode but you can set the map to 2D mode if so desire d. Choose the mode that is best suited for you. In 2D mode, you can pan ac ross the map looking for a location to route to or save in your ad dress book.
Map Sc reen 15 Routing to a Panned Position 1. Pan the map until the icon crosshairs are over the location you want to route to. 2. T ap in the center of the icon circle. (If noth ing happens then you are not zoomed in enough. T ap the zo om in icon and try again.
Map Sc reen 16 Maneuver List Screen This screen is ac cessed from the Map screen and only when routing. (Note: The Maneuver List screen is not available until you begin moving on the route.) Each line in the m aneuver list provides details about the maneuver in the order that they are to be made, with the next maneuver at t he top.
Map Sc reen 17 Setting Zoom Levels 1. While viewing the Map screen, tap on the (zoom in) or (zoom out). Vo l u m e The volume can b e adjusted or mu ted from the Ma p screen. (The volume ca n also be adjusted from User Options > System Settings > V olume.
Home Address 18 Home Addr ess Y our home address can be entered and saved in the Magellan RoadMate for quick and easy a ccess when you need to crea te a route home. Creating a Home Address These instructions only apply if you have never en tered a home address or if it has been deleted.

Enter Address 20 Enter Addr ess The Enter Address function is used to create a route from a newly ente red address, an address in your address book or to a town c entre. Entering an Address While creating an addr ess the first step is to indica te what town the address is in.
Enter Address 21 My Addresses My Addresses is where you store a ddresses that you want to keep as future destinations as well as access addresses that you have gone to recently that may not be in your address book. The address book can hold up to 100 addresses.

Apply any edits you want to make to this dest ination before saving. 7. Check Favorite if you want this addresses store in your add ress book as a Fa vorite.

Points of Interest 26 Points of Inter est (POI) The Magellan RoadM ate has POIs preload ed that can be used as a destination for a route. Select ing a restaurant or finding an A TM nearby is at your fingertips. Categories and Subcategories POIs are categorized into uniqu e cate gories from gas stations to wineri es.
Points of Interest 27 Creating a Route to a POI by Name 1. From the Main Menu , tap the Points of Interest icon. 2. Select Search by Name . 3. Spell the name of the POI to be used as the destination. Y ou need not enter the full name, but the more ch aracters you enter , the easier it will be to find the exact POI you are searching for .
Points of Interest 28 Selecting Categories for Display on the Map A POI file must be loaded (see Loading a POI File ) for this function to operate. 1. From the Main Menu , tap the Points of Interest icon. 2. Select My POIs . 3. Select Change My POI FIle .
Points of Interest 29 Routing to a Loaded POI A POI file must be loaded (see Loading a POI File ) for this function to operate. 1. From the Main Menu , tap the Points of Interest icon. 2. Select My POIs . 3. Select Select Category . 4. Select the category co ntaining the POI yo u want to route t o from the category list.
Travelling on a Route 30 T ravelling on a Route Map Screen When a route has been calcul ated it will be displayed on the Map screen in green with blue arrows indicating direction of travel. The top of the screen displays the name of the stre et you are on.
Travelling on a Route 31 Y ou Have Arrived Finally , the Magellan RoadMate will provide a visual alert when you have arrived at the destination. T ap the Back arrow to return to the Map screen. (The Magellan RoadMate will auto matically return to the Map screen after a fixed time if you do not tap the Back arrow .
Travelling on a Route 32 Special Routing Functions When a route is active, the Main Menu functions are changed to support special routing functions. Routing to a POI Near an Approaching Freeway Exit Note: This function is available only while on a fre eway .
Travelling on a Route 33 Changing the Route Method If you travel off the computed ro ute, the Magellan RoadMate will automatically re-calculate the routing information to get you to your original destination using th e routing method you selected when creating the route.
Traffic 34 T raffic (Magellan RoadMate 1425 only) Glossary RDS : Radio Data System. Infrastructure that broadcasts digital information on the FM band. The T rafficKit module can only receive and decode the free-acce ss service. TMC : T raffic Message Channel, one of the types of information that a Ra dio Data System can broadcast.
Traffic 35 Selecting Categories of T raffic Events Y ou may choose the T raffic event ca tegories you would like to be i nformed of as they oc cur: 1. Access the Main Menu and se lect User Options. 2. Scroll down the list and select Traffic Options. 3.
Traffic 36 Dist. to event < 4 0 mi : W ith this option checked, the re ceiver will re-route you only if the distance to this T raffic event, is less than 40 miles from your current location (not a point- to-point distance but that me asured along the route ).

Traffic 38 Disabling the RDS When you do not want to use the RDS function: 1. Access the Main Menu and se lect User Options. 2. Scroll down the list and select Traffic Options 3. Select Traffic Selection. 4. Deselect the Traffic Active box 5. Click Save to confirm your ch oice.
Trip Planner 39 T rip Planner The T rip Plan ner is used to create a ro ute with mult iple destinations. In this document we refer to a route with multiple destinations as a “T rip”. Creating a T r ip 1. From page 2 of the Main Menu, tap the Tr i p P l a n n e r icon.
Trip Planner 40 9. The list of trip destinations is displayed. 10. T ap on the destination name to bring up the menu or tap Append. 11. Repeat steps 5 though 9 until the trip is complete with all desired destinations.
Trip Planner 41 4. T ap on the destination in the list to be used to as the first dest ination in the trip. 5. Select the routing method to be used and tap the orange Calculate Route button. Editing a T rip 1. From page 2 of the Main Menu, tap the Tr i p Planner icon.
Exit POIs 42 Exit POIs The Exit POI function provides a way of acce ssing commonly used POIs that are near an ex it you are approaching while travelling on a freeway . Exit POIs include rest aurants, gas stations and hotels. Exit POIs can be accessed while on a route or just drivin g, as long as you are on a freeway .
User Options 43 User Options Use User Options to customize the Mage llan RoadMate to better suit your ne eds from a GPS navigator . T apping the Back arrow from any of the User Option screens will cancel the changes. Selecting Map Region Choose the map region you will be travelling in.
User Options 44 Adjusting the Display Brightness 1. From page 2 of the Main Menu, tap User Options . 2. T ap System Settings . 3. T ap Brightness . 4. T ap along the adjustment bar to increa se or decrease the display brightness. 5. T ap On-battery dimming (75%) to set it on or off.

User Options 47 Speed T rap Settings Y our Magellan RoadMate is preloaded with the locati on of spee d cameras, so that you c an be alerted when approaching a speed control area.

Setting Split Screen (T rueView™) Options As you approach a maneuver , the display changes to the split screen mode.
User Options 49 Setting Detour Options Normally the map is displayed in the pastel co lors for daytime use an d a black background for nighttime use. Unchecking the Auto Night Mode will keep the map display usi ng the pastel colors. 1. From page 2 of the Main Menu, tap User Options .

User Options 51 4. Follow the prompts to enter the address where you currently are. 5. T ap Done when finished entering the address. Backing Up and Restoring Data Backup and restore provi des a way of storing the addre ss book and other data to a SD/MMC card.
