Loading the multipurpose feeder Use the multipurpose feed er when printing on different paper sizes and types or specialty media, such as card stock, transpar encies, paper labe ls, and en velope s. You can a lso use i t for sin gle ‑ page prin t jo bs on lett erhe ad .
2 Squeeze the tab on the left width gu ide, and then move the gu ides for the paper you are loading. 2 1 3 Prepare the paper or specialty media for loading. • Flex sheets of pap er back and forth to loos en them, and then fan them. Do n ot fold or crease th e paper.
• Make sure the pape r or s pecialt y media i s below the m aximu m paper f ill ind icator locate d on the pa per guides. Overfilling may cause paper jams. • Load paper, transparencies, and card stock with the recomm ended printable side faceup and the top edge entering the prin ter first.
• Load let terhea d faceu p with th e top edg e entering the pr inter first. For two ‑ sided (duplex ) printi ng, load letterhead facedown with the bott om edge ent ering the printer first. • Load envelopes with the flap on the left side facedown.

Grain direction Grain ref ers to the alignm ent of the pa per fib ers in a sh eet of pap er. G rain is eit her grai n lon g , running the le ngth of the paper , or grain short , running the wid th of the p aper. For 60–90 ‑ g/m 2 (16–24 ‑ lb) bond paper, grain l ong pa per is rec ommen ded.
• Avoid papers wit h rough or heavil y textur ed surfac es. Use papers pr inted with heat ‑ resistan t inks design ed for use in xe rographi c copiers. The i nk must be able t o withstand tempera tures up to 230°C (446°F) wi thout melti ng or relea sing ha zardous emiss ions.
Lexmark does not endo rse specific suppl iers, al though a c onverter’s product list fo r special applicat ions is m aintai ned. However, the follo wing paper choi ce guidel ines will help al leviate the environmental im pact of prin ting: 1 Minimi ze paper consum ption.

Securin g the prin ter Using the security lock feature The printer i s equipped with a securit y lock feature. Attach a s ecurity lock c ompatible with most laptop com puters in the loca tion sh own to secure the prin ter in place.
Erasing volatile memory The volatile me mory (RAM) inst alled in your pr inter req uires a power source to ret ain information. To erase t he buffered data, s impl y turn off the pri nter.
