General safety guidelines Always observe the following precautions to r educe the risk of injury and property damage. Service Do not attempt to service a product yourself unless instr ucted to do so by the Customer Support Center . Use only a service provider who is appr oved to repair your particular product.
Plugs and outlets If a receptacle (power outlet) that you intend to use with your computer equipment appears to be damaged or corroded, do not use the outlet until it is r eplaced by a qualified electrician. Do not bend or modify the plug. If the plug is damaged, contact the manufacturer to obtain a replacement.

Chapter 1. About the ThinkPad DVD Burner Ultrabay Serial ATA Drive This manual provides information on r egistering, installing, and using the ThinkPad ® DVD Burner Ultrabay ™ Serial ATA Drive, and is available on the Software and User Guide CD . The appendices of this guide contain warranty information and legal notices.

Chapter 2. Using the ThinkPad DVD Burner Ultrabay Serial ATA Drive This section provides information on how to handle, load, and car e for DVDs and CDs, and how to care for your drive.
3. Close the tray by gently pushing the tray in until it latches. Attention: Do not use force or insert for eign objects to open the tray . If your tray does not open when you press the Eject button, see “Manually ejecting a disc” for more information.
Y our drive can use many differ ent types of media. Not all media are used in the same way . The following sections describe what you can do with the differ ent media types. Using DVD-RAM media DVD-RAM media are available in bar e-disc or cartridge form.
To return the disc to the cartridge, align the label side of the disc 1 with the DVD-RAM cartridge label side. Insert the disc and close the cartridge lid 2 . A clicking sound will occur when the lid closes. Precautions for handling Be careful when handling the r emoved disc.
DVD-R W discs can be erased and rewritten, but can be used only with newer MR- and DVD-R W -compatible DVD-ROM drives. Yo u can use DVD-R W discs to back up, store, and update files or to copy files from another DVD.
To view the video content of a video or DVD disc, go to the Start menu, launch WinDVD , and click Play . W ith Microsoft W indows XP , you can also play DVD V ideo content by using the W indows Media Player application.
2. Click Make Compatible . A UDF Reader is included on the Software and User Guide CD . To use the UDF Reader to r ead UDF formatted CD-R W media, complete the following steps:.
Notes: 1. DLA CDs cannot be saved as image files. 2. Protected commer cial CDs cannot be imaged. To burn a previously saved image, complete the following steps: 1. Start the Creator Business Edition application. 2. Click the Copy page. 3. Click the task Burn Image to CD or DVD .

Unable to Create Overlay W indow message appears when you use WinDVD with W indows 2000. Complete these steps: 1. Y our video device driver needs an update to enable overlay support. Contact the manufacturer of your video adapter or your computer for updates.
