Protect your comput er and data when moving it. Before moving a comput er equipped with a hard disk drive, do one of the following, and make sur e that the power switch is off or is blinking: • T urn it off. • P ut it in sleep (standby) mode. • P ut it in hibernation mode.

F or Germany, it shall be H05VV -F , 3G, 0.75 mm 2 , or better . F or other countries, the suitable types shall be used accor dingly .
Plugs and outlets DANGER If a receptacle (power outlet) that you int end to use with your computer equipment appears to be damaged or corroded, do not use the outlet until it is replaced by a qualied electrician. Do not bend or modify the plug. If the plug is damaged, contact the manufactur er to obtain a replacement.

Heat and product ventilation DANGER Computers, ac power adapters, and many accessories can gener ate heat when turned on and when batteries are charging.
Electrical curr ent safety information DANGER Electric current from power , telephone, and communication cables is hazardous. T o avoid a shock hazard: • Do not use your computer during a lightning storm.
Excessive use of headphones or earphones for a long period of time at high volume can be danger ous if the output of the headphone or earphone connectors do not comply with specications of EN 50332-2. The headphone output connector of your computer complies with EN 50332-2 Sub clause 7.
Chapter 1. P roduct overview This chapter pr ovides information about the locations of connectors, locations of important pr oduct labels, computer featur es, specications, oper ating envir onment, and pr einstalled ThinkV antage ® programs.
1 Integr ated camera Some models have an integr ated camer a. Use the camer a to take pictures or hold a video conference. 2 Built-in micr ophones The built-in microphones capture sound and voice when used with an application pr ogram capable of handling audio.

Y our comput er might come with a Mini DisplayP ort to VGA adapt er . Use the adapter t o connect your computer t o a compatible digital audio device or video monitor such as a high-denition television. 4 USB 3.0 connector The Universal Serial Bus (USB) 3.
If you want to char ge these devices when your comput er is turned off, you need t o connect the computer to an ac power supply and change the Always On USB settings in ThinkP ad Setup and the P ower Manager progr am. 4 Wireless r adio switch Use this switch to quickly turn on or turn off all wireless connections.

Depending on the country of delivery, the SIM car d might be already installed in the SIM car d slot.
2 Micr ophone mute indicator When the indicat or is on in red, the microphone mut e mode is enabled. 3 W ir eless LAN/W AN/Bluetooth status indicator • Green: The wireless LAN, W AN, Bluet ooth featur e is on. • Off: Wireless network devices are disabled or the wir eless radio is turned off.

Chapter 2. Using your computer This chapter provides information on using some of the computer components. • “Registering your computer” on page 17 • “F r equently asked questions” on page.
• If your comput er will be turned off for an ext ended period of time, follow the instructions in “Disabling the built-in battery” on page 27 to disable the int ernal built-in battery so as to prevent battery power from dr aining.
Y ou also can use the black button to interrupt the startup sequence of your computer and start the Rescue and Recovery workspace, which runs independently of the Windows operating system and is hidden from it. In this situation, you might need t o do the following: • Get the curr ent system information.
– Computer display and external monitor (e xtended desktop function) – External monitor only Note: The Windows+P key combination has the same functionality as Fn+F7. Enabling or disabling the wir eless features • Fn+F5 Enable or disable the built-in wireless networking features.
V olume and mute buttons Y ou can adjust the sound level of the built-in speakers by using the following thr ee buttons: 1 Speak er mute button 2 V olume control button 3 Micr ophone mute button If you mut e the sound and then turn off your computer , the sound will remain muted when you turn on your computer again.
Windows k ey Y ou can display or hide the Start menu of Windows by pr essing the Windows key 1 Y ou also can use the Windows key together with another key t o achieve other functions. F or details, refer to the help information system of the Windows operating system.
Using the T r ackP oint pointing device The T r ackP oint pointing device consists of a pointing stick 1 on the keyboard and three click buttons at the bottom of the keyboard.
Note: If you r eplace the keyboar d, a new keyboar d is shipped with the default cap. If you wish, you can keep the cap from your old keyboard and use it on the new one. Using the touch pad The touch pad is a pad 1 below the T r ackP oint buttons at the bottom of the keyboar d.
• Left click : T o mimic a single left click on a mouse, tap anywher e on the touch pad once or pr ess the left click zone 3 once. T o mimic a double click on a mouse, tap anywhere on the touch pad twice or pr ess the left click zone 3 twice. • Right click : T o mimic a right click on a mouse, press the right click zone 2 once.
2. Select the check bo x for Show UltraNav icon on the system tr ay . 3. Click OK . Y ou can now change the pr operties of the Ultr aNav pointing device by clicking the UltraNav icon in the Windows notication ar ea. • Do not bind the power cord tightly around the ac power adapt er tr ansformer pack when it is connected to the transformer . • Before you char ge the battery, ensure that its t emperatur e is at least 10°C (50°F). • Y ou can char ge the batt ery when the ac power adapter is connect ed t o the computer .

Understanding the power -saving modes There are sever al modes that you can use at any time t o conserve power .

Wireless WAN A wireless W AN covers a broader geogr aphic area. Cellular networks are used for data tr ansmission, and access is provided by a wir eless service carrier . Bluetooth Bluetooth is one of a number of technologies used to cr eate a wireless personal ar ea network.

Chapter 3. Y ou and your computer This chapter provides information about accessibility, comfort, and travelling with your computer . This chapter contains the following topics: • “ Accessibility .
Display : P osition the display to maintain a comfortable viewing distance of 510-760 mm (20-30 inches). A void glare or reections on the display fr om overhead lighting or outside sources of light. Asset ID EEPROM The Asset ID EEPROM contains information about the syst em, including its conguration and the serial numbers of key components. It also includes a number of blank elds in which you can record information about the end users in your network.
Chapter 7. P reventing pr oblems An important part of owning a ThinkP ad notebook computer is maintenance. With proper care, you can avoid common pr oblems.
• If requir ed, you can nd your country's Customer Support Center at the following Web address: http://www.lenovo.com/support/phone. When calling the Customer Support Center , ensure that you have your machine model type, serial number , and the comput er in front of you.
Be careful about where and how you work • Stor e packing materials safely out of the r each of childr en to prevent the risk of suffocation fr om plastic bags. • Keep your computer away fr om magnets, activated cellular phones, electrical appliances, or speakers (within 13 cm or 5 inches).
Register your computer • Register your ThinkP ad comput er with Lenovo at http://www.lenovo.com/r egister. This can help authorities r eturn your comput er to you if it is lost or stolen. Registering your computer also enables Lenovo to notify you about possible technical information and upgrades.
Chapter 8. T roubleshooting computer pr oblems This chapter provides information on what to do if you experience a problem with your computer . • “Diagnosing problems” on page 85 • “T r oubl.
Notes: • If the computer does not turn on, continue with st ep 3. • If the computer starts with ac power but does not start when ac power is disconnected, call the Customer Support Center for support. Go t o http://www.lenovo.com/support/phone for the latest list of support phone numbers for your country or r egion.
Solution: The EEPROM checksum is not correct (block # 4 and 5). The system board should be replaced, and the UUID needs to be reinstalled. Have the comput er serviced. Message: 0190: Critical low-batt ery error Solution: The comput er turned off, because the battery is low .
Solution: The L enovo has no responsibility for the performance or safety of unauthorized batteries, and provides no warranties for failur es or damage arising out of their use. Errors without messages • Problem : My scr een keeps blanking when I do not want it to.
Beep errors T able 8. Beep errors Problem Solution One short beep, pause, three short beeps, pause, three more short beeps, and one short beep Ensure that memory modules are installed correctly . If they are, and you still hear the beeps, have the computer serviced.
– The switch port and the adapt er have the same duple x setting. If you congured the adapter for full duplex, ensur e that the switch port also is congured for full duplex. Setting the wrong duple x mode can degr ade performance, cause data loss, or r esult in lost connections.
Bluetooth problems • Problem : Sound does not come from the Bluet ooth headset/headphone but comes fr om the local speaker even though the Bluetooth headset/headphone is connected using a Headset prole or A V prole. Solution : Do the following: 1.

Solution : P ress and hold the power butt on for four seconds or mor e t o turn off your computer; then turn it on again. • Problem : Missing, discolored, or bright dots appear on the scr een every time you turn on your computer . Solution : This is an intrinsic char acteristic of the TFT technology .
1. Connect the e xternal monit or to the monitor connector , and then connect the monit or to an electrical outlet. 2. T urn on the e xternal monit or and the computer . 3. Right-click on the desktop, and click Screen resolution . 4. Click the Monitor-2 icon.
