CHAPTER 13 SAFETY Read this important safety information before using your phone . CHAPTER 13 SAFETY.
SAFETY SAFETY INFORMA TION FOR WIRELESS HANDHELD PHONES Read This Information Before Using Y our Handheld Portable Cellular T elephone DRIVING SAFETY T alking on the phone while driving is extremely dangerous and is illegal in some states . Remember , safety comes first.
SAFETY Never come closer than six (6) inches to a person with a heart pacemak er implant when using your phone . Doing so could result in interference with the function of the pacemak er . P ersons with pacemak ers : • AL WA YS k eep the phone more than six inches from your pacemaker when the phone is turned on.
SAFETY AIRCRAFT FCC regulations prohibit using your phone while in the air . T urn your phone OFF before boarding an aircraft. Always request and obtain prior consent and approv al of an authorized airline representative before using your phone aboard an aircraft.
SAFETY T o maintain compliance with FCC RF exposure requirements , use only belt-clips , holsters or similar accessories that maintain a 15 mm separation distance between the user’ s body and the back of the phone , including the antenna.
SAFETY measurements differ among phone models , depending upon available accessories and FCC requirements). While there may be differences between the SAR levels of various phones and at v arious positions , they all meet the government requirement for safe exposure .
SAFETY 2. Do wireless phones pose a health hazard? T he available scientific evidence does not show that any health problems are associated with using wireless phones . There is no proof , however , that wireless phones are absolutely safe . Wireless phones emit low levels of radiofrequency energy (RF) in the microwave range while being used.
SAFETY • F ederal Communications Commission • Occupational Safety and Health Administration • National T elecommunications and Information Administration T he National Institutes of Health participates in some interagency working group activities , as well.
SAFETY 5. What research is needed to decide whether RF exposur e from wireless phones poses a health risk? A combination of laboratory studies and epidemiological studies of people actually using wireless phones would provide some of the data that are needed.
SAFETY reducing the amount of time spent using a wireless phone will reduce RF exposure . • If you must conduct extended conversations by wireless phone every day , you could place more distance between your body and the source of the RF , since the exposure level drops off dramatically with distance .
SAFETY believe that accessories that claim to shield the head from those emissions reduce risks . Some products that claim to shield the user from RF absorption use special phone cases , while others involve nothing more than a metallic accessory attached to the phone .
SAFETY EMERGENCY CALLS Never rely solely upon your wireless phone for essential communications (e .g., medical emergencies), if it can be avoided, since a wireless phone requires a complex combination of radio signals , relay stations and landline networks for its operation.
SAFETY when you dial the preprogrammed emergency number , 911, #911, or *911. It also operates in out-of-service areas . T he phone maintains emergency mode until you press after disconnecting an emergency call. In emergency call mode , the phone can receive an incoming call from any available system.
